I was using the mapping app gps-tracks.com. When I open it now, a pop-up appears, saying "This app is no longer supported. Please uninstall the app" in German and offering an OK button only. See screenshot at dropbox.com/s/7weviuc5dksmv2w/Screenshot_2019-09-01-22-14-04-781_com.GPSTracks.png.
Whether I click OK or not, a few seconds later the app automatically closes. I thought this pop-up and closing logic is part of a new release of the app. I installed older versions of the app from an apk mirror, apkmonk.com/app/com.GPSTracks/. But the same popup continuous to appear and the app gets closed automatically whatever old release I install. How is this possible? And how can I stop this?
Why I need a solution: From GPS-Tracks I purchased maps for indefinite offline usage. GPS-Tracks was acquired by Outdooractive. They have their own app and are not interested in maintaining the acquired app. So they initiated this change. I contacted them and they gave me a free license for one year for their new app. But I purchased unlimited usage and want to use the maps as long as I can run the apk on whatever Android version I will use. Currently I am on Pie and the last version of the app did run on Pie.
An idea: try to block the network connection just for this app (and also clear its cache just to be sure). Since you already have the maps offline, it would prevent whatever check they have to access the server.

Thanks, vegesm! You hit the nail. When starting the app in airplane mode the popup does not appear and the app does not close. I can even stop airplane mode and continue using the already started app. The cache is not relevant. So, the app receives the instructions for popup and automatic closing from a server each time freshly at startup.
As it is a bit cumbersome to manually start and stop airplane mode each time, I wonder whether I can permanently disrupt the server connection. Possibly I could block the server's IP on a firewall on the device, or install a proxy and let it block or redirect access attempts to the DNS address of the server? How can I find out about the IP or DNS address contacted at app start? And then, what app or configuration allows blocking it?
I've never tried them but as far as I know firewall apps can already block network per app, no need to detect the server ip.

I am unable to log into any account using an app (mail, contacts, skype, tdameritrade, twitter apps). I am able to log in fine when I visit the website and login through the web.
Is there someplace I have to grant apps permissions to use the internet? Why can't I log in?

No. There is no special place to grant permissions to use the internet. Do you get any kind of error message? Force Close? Some indication of symptoms might help us diagnose the problem.
Get an app called Superuser. You will need to root the tab, as well. I think there's something like "oneclickroot" out there.
Honestly, grab a custom ROM, they all come with this standard.
Rooting shouldn't be necessary to make any of those apps work so I doubt that will help him.
Google login fails, 2 step verification is culprit
This may not solve your problem, but it knocked me for a loop for a whole evening with my new motorola defy this week.
You get a new android device, and everything looks so nice, but then you try to log in to your google account. Repeatedly. You keep getting an error that says the username or password are wrong, even though you can log in on your pc. OBVIOUSLY the password is fine, but it wont work on your new android device.
Well, if you turned on 2-part authentication then you have a problem. (If you have never heard of 2-part authentication then move on, you would have to have done this on purpose and it is way to painful to forget having done it.)
Android doesnt support 2-part authentication. So you have to generate a special password for your android device.
Start by logging in to gmail, or whatever google service you wish. Go to your account settings (the little gear-looking thing in the upper right.) Under Personal Settings, Security you'll see an entry called "Authorizing applications & sites". Go here and make an entry for your device, and it will generate a special password for that specific google application that doesnt happen to support 2-part authentication. Enter your super-secret password.
Suddenly the world is golden.

Disclaimer: I know nothing on how to configure firewalls except for adding apps to the whitelist/blacklist.
Tried using NRFW and I noticed a few things:
1. I've consumed 12.54GB and 9.77GB was by NRFW. What's happening please.
2. I've tagged some apps that can only connect when I'm on wifi, yet I'm still getting notifications when I'm on mobile data. For example, the Facebook app and some games.
3. How do I determine which IP address should be allowed or blocked? For example, I see IP addresses pointing to Akamai and my ISP.
4. Is it a good idea to turn off background data? I restricted it on mobile data and allowed it when on wifi but some apps would not load properly even when I'm connected to a wifi network.

I read up a bit and learned that 1e100.net are Google's servers. I understand that these point to ads too. I also noticed my ISP's name shows up under these.
Do I allow these or do I block them?
First of all: sorry for answering so late ;-) ...:
- in my opinion, your traffic from internet is being redirected through this NoRoot Personal Firewall unto your smartphone
- so, the 9.77GB you mentioned were 'routed/directed' through the NRPFW - the rest was not (? - maybe for Android-Updates or anything?)
- as you could most probably see, all of these 9.77GB were allowed to pass through from the internet servers (akamai or google or microsoft or ibm or yahoo or many more..) to your smartphone ('s apps / system apps)
- notifications about your mobile connection(s) MAY simply be wrong (as i found out) - seemingly a bug in the NRPFW-app (?)
- akamai is one of the " intermediate servers" or main server for a couple of websites:
for example, when you open the 'WashingtonPost'-website on your smartphone, (all) contents from their website are upon an akamai-server, because 'WashingtonPost' does not have a server on its own inside their office building maybe big enough to handle all traffic from their website to all readers in the world
- your Internet Service Provider has intermediate servers for (any) web content, too - so, you might want to allow their internet addresses
- furthermore, background data is transferred when you have an email-app and this app (gmail or yahoo-app, e.g.) is transferring data even if you had closed the email-app (so you cannot see it anymore on your launcher) or it's even running in background and checking if there's new mail when auto-started while your smartphone is booting.

3 nights ago for the 2nd time only, I connected to the Internet with WiFi and I noticed some apps were being updated. Somewhere along the way Automatic Updates was reset from Off to Via Wi-Fi only. It stopped on the third.
apps_Packages info is reporting the following 3 apps, in descending Date and Time order, as being updated but they still appear listed in the screen for App Updates which is accessed from the Update Center listed on the screen for About Phone.

My intention was to to look at LG SmartWorld to see what Dark Themes they have to offer before disabling this app. I would like a System Wide theme with Black Text on a Grey or Dark Grey background.
Are themes an inherent feature of Launchers that are automatically applied to all apps?
Not too long afterwards the phone Rebooted and this would happen again after 2 or so minutes each time after I entered my PIN and started checking settings etc.
I turned off WiFi and the rebooting stopped.
I noticed afterwards that less RAM is being used by the System.
Same thing started happening again the following morning when I turned Wi-Fi on again.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Have I possibly disabled something that is required for WiFi to function correctly or for apps to be able to properly communicate with the Wi-Fi processes?
I had previously used the Force stop button for apps such as Gallery, Weather, My Places, Email, Exchange, QuickMemo+ etc.
There does not appear to be a Software Update to Oreo 8.0 available but the following apps are listed as having updates available. Do they need to be updated first in order for the system to "properly" check for a Software Update?

My phone is using com.android.captiveportallogin - Version 7.0 (24). The Disable button is disabled for this app.
Which apps should not be uninstalled with the approach I am taking to mitigate privacy concerns?
For example, is it safe to uninstall the standard Contacts (com.android.contacts) and Contacts Storage (com.android.providers.contacts) apps or are they required by some of the Third Party apps, for Contacts, in order to function properly?
Can the Messaging (com.android.mms) and Phone (Call services - com.android.phone) apps be uninstalled and replaced by Third Party apps such as QKSMS and Simple Dialer?
My current Home Screen (Home & app drawer - com.lge.launcher2) had a Time and Date and Weather widget but, even though I have removed it, the Weather apps still appear in the lists for Running Services and Cached Processes after every Reboot.
Checking the Uses permissions list of apps_Packages info reveals that the Home & app drawer has references to Email, FormManager and Weather.
Could the Email, FormManager and Weather apps be prevented being used by using a different Launcher? Which Launcher?

this thread is very specific because it's about a single app from a single bank that operates in Europe (N26).
I hope to find someone who has the same bank who can tell their experience.
So the issue is this: if I tap on any notification coming from this app, the notification disappears and the app does not open. For example if I have to confirm the desktop login through the app, I click on the notification and nothing happens, so I have to manually open the app in order to retrieve the popup message and take some action.
Needless to say, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app on my S21 with no success, and I tried the same with three other phones in my family (Oppo, Huawei, Honor) and with these other phones there are no issues opening the notifications coming from this app, they correctly redirect to the app showing the required popup.
Anyone who can check if they have the same problem?
Or in general has anyone experienced the same problem with some other app? Any suggestions?

Edit: I managed to find someone with that bank account and the same device. He tested for me and confirmed this behaviour. So it must be an S21 series problem

I would like to use an android as a Windows 10 PC terminal. I'm using a Samsung Fold3 running Android 12 if it matters. It seems like a fairly simple process. Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows 10 PC. Make sure the PC's firewall (and virus protection software) passes Remote Desktop access. Install Remote Desktop Client on the Android and setup the connection to the PC.
The Remote Desktop Client sees the PC, fills in the active user account and requests the user password. I can enter the password but the android does not respond to the "Continue" button and all I can do is cancel out of it. I can also try to edit the PC configuration to setup a user account so that a password does not need to be entered each time but in this case the save button is unresponsive whether or not a password is entered.
This same thing happens whether I select the PC found on the local wifi or I enter the PC's IP address manually (with or without the 3389 port number).
Can anyone give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong or how to proceed?

My initial problem was just a usage error getting Microsoft Remote Desktop Client to work when on the same network. I fixed that issue and am able to use it to control my PC from an android as long as I'm on the same local network which is useful but I would also like to be able to do it from anywhere on the internet.
Your link led to a discussion of this issue with the possibility of using port forwarding or a VPN to allow access to my PC from an external network with varying degrees of complexity and hacking potential.
The link also discussed using chrome and a google account to access my PC remotely. This is unacceptable because I won't use chrome and have uninstalled it from all my android devices plus although I do have a Google account, I only use it to explicitly download apps from the store and otherwise disable Google Play Services and the Google Play Store and will not use any app that requires Google Play Services to function. So this option is out.
The final option requires me to create an account at a third party site and presumably direct all of my traffic through this third party. This too is unacceptable to me.
So the question is, is there a simpler method to access my PC from an android device that's on a different network than having to setup a vpn or enabling port forwarding on my router, that doesn't require registering for and using a third party service to accomplish the goal?
