Hello everyone!
Is there any worth flashing the SM-G965U1 firmware on my SM-G965U? I have done some light reading, and noticed some people do this on their network unlocked phones.
Additionally, would there be any worth flashing the XAA version of the firmware? I am using the phone in Mexico with Telcel (which is working perfectly fine right now). Would this invalidate OTAs? Currently I'm getting "No update available" (which I had to fix myself by manually flashing with Odin)
My phone is currently SPR/XAA/SPR.

all it does is add the ability to remove bloatware. Itll also remove the wifi calling, voLTE, etc etc
That works for me! Thanks!
still no root and FRP unlock 965u ??

Title says it all really. I hadn't seen any indication that Oreo would bring any changes in the WiFi calling or VoLTE front, but the facilities that had been only available on Three branded ROMs, are available in Oreo.
Cheers for the info - on Three but using an unlocked phone so this will be useful when I've finally got the update.

Same here - just flash the XEF version if you have can download it, and have access to Odin.
Great news, also on three on the unbranded note 8. I was looking for volte / wifi yesterday actually and realised I was stuck with the terrible app ! Is it available yet or are we still waiting?

The release is currently only available for the XEF CSC, but as that is part of the OXM multi-CSC that covers the UK's BTU, then it's effectively identical to a UK update anyway. You can download it and flash it to your phone using Odin.

Yeah sorry, I got to reading after I posted that and saw your post in the other thread. I'll give it a go shortly - thanks for replying mate. Much appreciated!
They’ve also updated the modem Firmware to support additional LTE bands including B32 which three are currently deploying in my area.
Occasionally callers can't hear my audio at the other end of the call whilst using WiFi calling, I'm BTU/BTU/BTU on Oreo on 3UK. Would be interesting to see if anyone else is having issues. I'll check the detailed IMS settings when I have some free time.
From the Three site:
Devices that didn't come from Three.
Right now, all 4G Super-Voice compatible*iPhones*will be 4G Super-Voice enabled once the carrier settings have been installed, even if they didn't come from Three.
4G Super-Voice doesn't work on other non-Three devices yet however, even if the manufacturer has stated that it's VoLTE compatible. We're working on this, so be sure to check back for updates.
Has anyone experienced data transmission issues on Oreo and 3 UK?
I updated to Oreo via XEF Odin flash and then Update push but was getting very intermittent and "hangy" LTE & HSDPA data transmission...
I flashed back down to 7.1.1 but if no-one else has experienced this I may try again :fingers-crossed:
S9+ (direct from Samsung) user here using my Three SIM from my old S7 Edge contract.
No WiFi calling etc, what is it that I have to do to enable it? Not flashed firmware before & I'm concerned I may void any warranty etc (on Samsung Upgrade program for the S10)
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I can say that I've not noticed any data or voice issues (WiFi or otherwise) since switching to Oreo.

This is the Note 8 Forum and we are discussing the Oreo update for that specific phone. There's no guarantee that Oreo updates for other phones will include the VoLTE or WiFi Calling settings for Three. You would be better off directing your question to the S9+ forum.

I have the 950N as well. I would suggest downloading a 950F based ROM and then flashing TEKHD's CSC detonator(its in the dev section) which is T-Mobile based. It'll give you access to VoLTE and I believe video calling as well. I am currently running WETA 6.3.3 and have flashed that CSC pack. I am able to enable both the MMTEL and RCS switch. VoLTE is working fine for me now.

I am using a dual sim variant SM-N950F, both Sim cards are from 3UK so can I flash this firmware to get wificalling?
I use my SIM 1 for calls and texts and SIM2 just for data.
Just want to let you know that s7 edge btu with newest oreo update have WiFi calling enabled so no need to have 3 network firmware. Hope this helps someone.
I've just purchased a note 8 (UAE version) and using with 3uk I have Wi-Fi calling without any ROM adjustments

Is it possible for me to flash that OXM multi-CSC on my N950F model without root? I'd like to have wifi calling and volte here in US.

You can flash on your N950F, but without knowing what CSC it currently is, the results could be a little unpredictable.
However, I can't imagine it will give you what you want in the US, as none of the native CSCs in OXM target the US carriers.
Sorry to bring back an old thread but I was wondering if you could help please? Does this mean that Oreo firmware, regardless of source will allow Three's VoLTE (4G Super Voice) to work on any Note 8, even those not supplied by Three? My phone is running 8.0.0, is unlocked, and I have just ordered a Three SIM.

Yes. It is possible. But what are you trying to gain? TMO is one of the friendliest carriers to Samsung unlocked phones. You already get VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling. VVM is available via Play Store app. That's probably the one carrier where I would never consider flashing branded firmware.
If you really want to do it, just flash U firmware with normal (not HOME) CSC. You can get it from lots of places like SamFirm or the various firmware websites.
Be sure to use the 3B patched 3.13.1 Odin found elsewhere on XDA.
Thanks for the information. I have unbranded my SM-G965U to SM-G965U1.
OK so I have a T-Mobile SM-G965U. I can flash the room and get a different rom on the phone? I though that I had to root the phone in order to install another rom.
Is there a rom that focuses on Tethering my phone data, under the phone datas apn.
One thing I can't figure out, there are so many developers, but there hasn't been a solid app , that can bypass signature checking and use the phone native hotspot feature under the phones data APN not the hotspot APN, so that it hot spot data comes up as phone data.
There has to be someone lol

You certainly don't need root to run a different firmware provided by Samsung for your hardware model. To do anything else, ROM-wise, you do need root. That doesn't exist for this model. Something like hijacking the APN in the manner you describe requires root. Your only hope is an app like PDANet that consumes phone data and provides it through another means like USB tethering. I think they have some support for Wi-Fi as well, but read up on that.
It's been forever since I've been here, missed this place. I am practically a noob now.
Here is my scenario:
I have a Verizon-branded S9+ / SM-G965U on the firmware/baseband G965USQ3BRK2. It is paid off, assured it is carrier unlocked and has also never been modified, pure stock. I'm looking to switch carriers from Verizon to another service. It's also my understanding that Verizon phones are a pain in the hiney and there may be issues with data, features, and other nags and warnings because a non-Verizon SIM is in use. Had an S5 that worked on other carriers but was a nightmare to configure.
Will I be condemned to a similar nightmare of nags and warnings, or will it rebrand it's self and allow me to receive OTA updates on the new carrier? Just not sure of what my options are, the search results yields conflicting information where some had to flash some firmware and others didn't.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I converted an unlocked Verizon S9+ to an unbranded, unlocked device, using it on T-Mobile and couldn't be happier with it. You have the option of flashing your own carrier's firmware or the factory unlocked, and it will improve your situation, no more SIM card notifications and all that.
P.S. I was in the same situation as you, used to be on here all the time but felt like a noob all over again. But a super helpful member here guided me through the process and it was completely painless, one quick flash with Odin and it was all good.

Welcome. Looks like there's some instructions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...icial-stock-firmware-thread-samsung-t3764479. However you will want to make sure you find the patched version of Odin to get past the fact that you are flashing a different firmware than is currently on the phone. And you will want to flash G965U or U1 firmware, that also has a 3 as the fifth number from the end, just as the firmware that's already on your phone.

Thanks for your help and for answering the questions.
Is there any benefit to flash U1 or would just U work?
Would the firmware downloaded using SamFirm work with that version of ODIN you linked?
Do I have to go through a rooting process and install TWRP prior to going ODIN on my phone? Or can I just go into download mode on my device, click yeah about a custom OS, then do the ODIN bit?

The U firmwares are those from carriers and the U1 is from the factory unlocked unbranded variant. so it's up to you if you want your carriers own firmware or just a generic Samsung version. If you need Wi-Fi calling and or volte, there might be a better chance of it working with your carriers firmware but the unlocked firmware does a good job with that as well, I have both of those features working perfectly with the U1 firmware and a T-Mobile SIM. Just make sure to use the CSC as opposed to HOME_CSC, so that your phone is fully wiped and configured for your sim card. I will say one advantage of the unlocked U1 firmware is free built-in caller ID ?
No rooting necessary, in fact it's not even possible on the US models, so just boot into Odin and flash the firmware using the patched version of Odin.
Hello!
I need to fix this issue it's ****ing annoying to be honest. So I have an ATT S9+ and after the Pie update my phone NEVER HAS FULL SIGNAL! I've even went as far as standing under the cell tower and nothing. I was on the CS7 and updated to the CS8 via Odin and the problem PERSISTS! When I was on Oreo I didn't have this issue, this problem started right after I upgraded to Pie.
I'm want to Downgrade or switch this one to TMB but I'm afraid of tripping knox or locking the phone to TMB. (It's code unlocked).
I really want to fix this issue. It's very annoying.
I know your frustrated but the answer won't change if you make a new thread asking the same thing as your old one...
Also standing under the cell tower won't give you realistic results. While capable of sending/recieving signals in a wide area they are not aimed at (or pointing) downwards at the tower base.
Flashing from G965U firmware to G965U1 firmware will not trip knox at all because your flashing official firmware files. I myself have gone from Sprint firmware to the unlocked firmware (G965U1) and to Tmobile firmware without any knox issues.
As for downgrading this is where your out of luck unfortunately. Downgrading is not possible because of the bootloader version your using. Specifically CSC8 uses bootloader version 4 and the last oreo release uses bootloader version 3.
You can only flash firmware that has a bootloader version that is the same (or higher) then what is installed on your phone.
TBH I would contact your cellular provider and ask them to look into the issue. Maybe they can do something to help resolve your issue.

Hey! Thank you for the info! I tried with another sim card from another carrier but the issue remained. I'm going to try to flash everything again with another version of odin and uncheck the auto-reboot option so that I can factory reset from the recovery after its done.

Sorry unfortunately I do not. I haven't been able to find them myself when I used my S9+ on AT&T before switching to T-Mobile...
When I was with AT&T I had just used the G965U1 firmware since I would not have gotten access to any VoLTE and etc that required an AT&T whitelisted IMEI (to be provisioned for the features) and my phone wasn't an AT&T branded phone (since it was originally from Sprint).

not possible. also, is there not a CSC for your area you can flash instead?
I don't know why these guys say it's not possible, maybe it isn't with your model. I also don't want to give you any bad ideas or anything, so use your own discretion & research.
My phone was unusable when I did this, so I had nothing to lose when I did this (It worked though).
I easily flashed my canadian note 8 with a us firmware using modified odin (must be same version bootloader).
It has warranty status 0x0 (aka, Knox is NOT tripped).
AGAIN, I'm not advising you try this with your model, unless you know what you're doing. I just want to make the information available to you.
Edit: I'm just waiting for someone to upload snapdragon beta 3 one ui 2.0. I'm going to try the same method to convert my Canadian s9+ to USA version.
Edit 2: I can confirm this method works on my Canadian s9+ aswell.

Yeah I don't think it'll work on mine, since it's a single sim phone, and the ROM I wanted was for a dual sim version. Unless of course the hardware is the same and the second SIM slot is present. I could try, but I don't want to risk it. Maybe later when Sammy stops updating the phone.

Unfortunately not. The SM-G965U1 is the US unlocked version. There are only CSCs for American carriers.

if its truly unlocked, then you should already have the U1 firmware on it. Get modded Odin and the U1 firmware, flash it in Odin and go from there. I never looked back after ditching the carrier junk on my phone
Sometime ago I did somethinh like that on my Arabian S7 Edge that I bough in Paraguai, it was Dual Sim model and i flashed ZTO CSC via Odin, and the phone was working well, but i'm not sure if the reverse works, and even the models were similar (F vs FD version) in your case u have 965U vs 9650, I would not take that risk, i thing that a korean or chinese model is 9650 too
look at this picture, US version has more bands so the modem could be different, you can try but you're risking your phone

yep, they are different phones that just so happen to use the same processor. Different bootloader, same chassis for whatever reason. Anyways, there have been threads talking about converting the 9650 to a 965u, but ive never seen anyone confirming that it indeed works. Big risk, but as long as one can get back to Odin mode, one should be good.
