Probably something with systemUI, but my notifications have all vanished. I get vibrations letting me know I have notiofcations, and app badges are there, but i am not getting anything and the bar is completely empty.
Is there any way to force a refresh of systemUI, or perhaps something easier than to bring my current notifications back? I dont want to reboot my phone.

i have a samsung vibrant
ics passion v11
stock messaging app and an app locker.
heres the issue
my messaging app is hidden with the app locker,
but when i get notified in the top bar and pull down menu, it still has the name and beginning of the msg as it always does, which kinda defeats the purpose of locking the app.
i would like to still get notification sounds without a visual notification in the top bar/pull down
any way to do this?
i know how to remove the notification all together but i still want a tone to let me know i got a text just don't want someone to pick up my phone and be able to read who its from and half the message
Just got the VZW GS4. Hate the widget on the lockscreen that comes up when you get a new message. I've tried everything I can find/think of to remove it, but no dice.
I'm talking about the widget that pops up and says "Messaging. 1 new message". It is only present when you have new messages, and it will come up regardless of what or how many widgets I have on my lockscreen.
I know you can get it to show message previews, but I dislike that even less. I just want the widget gone altogether - It's enough that I have notifications in the NOTIFICATION BAR. I don't need some gaudy, clumsy duplication because Samsung arbitrarily decided I have to have it.
Short of downloading and installing a 3rd party lockscreen (I don't want to do that), is there any way to disable the widget?
Howdy, folks!
I've been using Android for a long time, and one particular behaviour bugs me. I've spent about a week googling around, sifting through the forums, looking for hacks or an Xposed module, and I can't track down anything.
When a new notification fires, the top bar momentarily shifts to show a preview of that notification. It might be as simple as a title-less notification that some app has turned itself on, or it might be a preview of a new message from some application. Regardless of what the contents of the notification are, the whole top bar momentarily stops displaying all of its icons, the clock, and anything else in order to show some of the text from the notification.
I'd like to stop this behaviour. Let me clarify; I don't care about modifying the contents of the notifications, I don't care about what shows up on my lockscreen, and I don't want to block notifications from showing up at all. I just want them to simply appear in my notification center and for the top bar to simply *poof* have another icon in it for the new notification.
I haven't been able to find any leads on this anywhere. I don't know if it's worth my time developing a little app to try to block this behaviour, or if someone has done it already. If anyone has suggestions, I'd be thrilled to hear them.
I'm using a rooted Galaxy S5 G900V on Verizon, running AllianceRom's KitKat release, though apart from the root access I don't think any of that should matter.
Thanks!
Can't get notifications from Facebook, Words With Friends, Facebook Messenger and other apps. No badge notifications or alerts. And I get Facebook Messenger notifications at the top of the screen with every text sent or recorded WHILE USING FACEBOOK MESSENGER! Anyone else having notification issues?
I texted with Samsung tech support (big mistake!) and they said that it was a hardware issue and to return the S9+ to Verizon for replacement. This makes no sense to me. Sounds like a software issue. Thoughts?
what launcher are you using?
if stock Samsung launcher, pinch in on the screen and go to settings... you'll find that notification badges have to be turned on there separately for some annoying reason
if any other launcher, make sure you've given it notification access under accessability so the launcher can read notifications and give you the correct 'badge' for the icon
I heard that for some, the battery optimization might be running too aggressively. Try going into battery usage, settings (3 dots), then battery optimization, then select to show all apps, then try unselecting the apps your having problems with. Give it a run for a few days to see if that helps.
I am using Samsung's launcher. Spent 2 hours on the phone with them. Tried everything. Nothing works. May have to do a factory reset
It's software issues. I got the same problem.

Tried your suggestion. So far, no dice.
Yeah I am looking toward a factory reset too. Notification issue but different. no Edge Lighting alerts.
I have tried everything I can think of to get Edge Lighting Notifications to work. After a week with this phone I am yet to see one. Samsung Experience Home. Notifications on for everything. No apps have Optimise battery usage. All I get is a notification tone, an icon on the AOD and a status bar icon. But for me Edge Lighting Notifications are totally MIA!
So I eventually got some Edge Lighting alerts to work. Primarily by going into each and every app that I awn the alerts from and setting "Do not disturb custom exception" to On within it Notification area. PITA to have to do this in each app when it should be settable from the system notification area one would think. Now have it working for Whatsapp, Skype and Samsung Messaging.
But for love or money I cannot get it to work for GMail. Anyone else got Edge Lighting alerts working with GMAIL. Setting "Do not disturb custom exception" does not do it.
Is there any way (with or without root) to increase the maximum number of notification charms shown in the status bar in Android P? So far, I've only been able to find a way to customize the clock position but not the notifications themselves. Thanks!
Yeah, I hate this change in Android Pie. With this and the lack of notification LED, it seems like Google is actively trying to destroy Android's notification system.
+1 The entire notification bar is a train wreck. Move the clock back to the right where permanent icons/info belongs, and clear space on the left for notifications, and let them breath. Probably my biggest annoyance with the phone is the whole lack of notification management. Turning off the AOD lead to missed notifications, so I have to sacrifice battery for the AOD... Then the dumbass clock and 4 icon limit is STILL causing missed notifications. If you have weather app and another notification always hanging around, you're down to 1 or 2 true notification icons?! Seriously?? Really hope Google fixes this, but I have a bad feeling this is how we have to live now... constantly pulling down the notification shade to see what was missed.

Google wont be satisfied until our devices are just as hampered as Apple's.
I don't understand the problem. I have an unread email, a few texts, a whatsapp, and an ebay auction won. I can see the text and the email and the dot. I swipe down, see the text and the email are unimportant, dismiss, and there's the whatsapp and the ebay. Sure, they aren't right there, but you don't read the email in the 1/8th of an inch of status bar, you preview in the notification shade or read in the app.
I wish I could only get 4 notifications. Since switching to the Pixel 3 XL I have one persistent notification that my Fitbit sync service is running. No WhatsApp or Gmail notifications, leading me to miss things left and right. I shut off AoD to save battery, but I don't think it worked before either.

you can hide persistent notifications now without disabling them completely. Just swipe to the left and click on the gear icon, and it will give you the option to minimize the notification. this will allow it to stay in the notification tray without displaying on the notification bar.
Got it working. Apparently my do not disturb settings were conflicting.
i have the same issue, with pie it limiting notificatiosn been shown in status bar, in Note 9 al least there is an option and you can chose to show all notifications.
With the last version of GravityBox you'll have an option to remove max notification icon restriction
