Hi guys, I have been trying to get VOLTE enabled on my VOG-L29. I have seen it in the settings with a German Vodafone SIM but when I insert the ATT SIM it disappeared, never to be seen again. (hard reset with either SIM, no SIM etc.)
I don't need WiFi calling but the VOLTE services are important.
Any way to get the phone enabled for them with ATT please?
Anybody please?
Hi,
Don't know about USA and others countries and providers, but as far as I know its need more than one thing :
- a compatible phone
- a compatible carrier
- to be enable BOTH on phone AND on carrier side
Keep in mind that, unfortunately, this is not as standard as it must be.
Some carrier enable by default as soon as the connected phone support the function.
Some need to be enabled by the customer, with or without fees.
Some force to have a specific firmware or apps or any custom thing, or even specific hardware like device only sold by this carrier... Etc etc
Welcome to capitalistic world!
If your phone is already compatible, Did you set/enable that function on your account or contact your support service?
After that and if it's ok, you'll see the option again on your phone for that sim card.
Did you ''RTFM'' about your specific situation?
At least done some searches...contact your carrier...
If you like some help, better try to look before on your own and only after write a message with lot more details than 'it worked before.. Not now... Everything is different except the phone... I don't understand...'
Come on, it's XDA, not an happy few neighbour tech blog...

The phone is missing almost half of the available AT&T bands. I doubt it.
I believe your issue is with AT&T and not the phone. I have the same phone and both Wi-Fi calling and VOLTE work great on Canadian TELUS network. I didn't have to do anything other than enable it. I remember when I lived in the US for a while my CDN phone would not allow VOLTE to work on AT&T and would re-enable when ever I returned to TELUS's network.

This
AT&T does not let any phone not sold/branded by them to use VOLTE or Wifi Calling.
If you really need VOLTE go with T-Mobile.

Im on koodo, with a 6t, has all the bands and functionality but as the carrier never had oneplus (telus) no dice, which is similar to the att situation. I am looking to change up, as wifi and volte, along with dual sim are needed, but didnt realize vog-l29 gets the vog-l04 functionality here. Did you just boot the phone with the sim installed, and wifi/volte calling were already enabled (i have it enabled on my account already). This would save me going the samsung ds s10 plus route, and messing with csc codes on the hk version. I m a big leica fan, and just like the colour reproduction on huawei better, also the battery life.

Yes, I have a dual SIM phone with a TELUS SIM in one slot and Bell in the other. Both SIMs support VOLTE out of the box. When I booted up the phone, both SIMS became active with VOLTE, I didn't have to anything manually.

Yes, it is enabled for both SIMs.
The option for VOLTE is there as soon as i put in the Google fi sim. No option at all on my tmobile sim.
This is a issue with Huawei in Software level. I have the same issue with my Mate 20. I made a post on Huawei forums about this issue. If you can report it too on the post. I hope Huawei considers it if there are more people reporting it:

I just purchased a SG SII here in the US and later found out it is a UK phone (the sales rep said it was a US model)
anyway, the phone works great EXCEPT it will not log onto T-Mobiles 3G network. All I get is EDGE which is terrible.
How can I get it to go to 3G?
Spoke with T-Mobile, even got a new sim card. No help
Spoke wth Samsung US - they tried, could not help and then said to contact the UK.
Called Samsung UK and they said it should work, if not, bring it back as it is broken!
anyway, is there some sort of settings that I can change to make it work in the US.
I also need it to work in Brazil as I will be going there and will be using the Brazilian Tim network and installing their sim card.
thank you for your assistance in advance.
The phone is suppose to be:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
EDGE/ GPRS Class 12
Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
Did you limit the phone to only work with 2G in the settings?
Check Wireless Network settings.
Much more better would be goto Settings->About phone, tell us what Baseband, and Kernel, and ROM version you are using.
Reboot phone.

Exactly, that phone will never work on T-Mobile USA 3G network, refund it or switch to AT&T. Makes you wish someone would regulate mobile networks here.
Edit: SGS2 should work fine on TIM Brazil.
you guys are absolutely certain that this phone will not work on T-Mobile?
what about certainty that it will work on Tim? I live in Brazil and defintely need it to work there.
Here, in the US, when I return next year, I can alway switch over to AT+T.
I need to be certain because if I get to brazil and it does not work, I am screwed because then it is almost impossible to get anything done to it.
BTW- they have been saying that t-mobile will have this same phone in a few months. How will that one be able to work? will it be possible to flash that info to this phone when it comes out?
thanks

The US T-mobile Variant is completely different from the UK model, won't be the same. Also it's true you can never get 3G with T-Mobile, don't know anything about TIM though.
T-Mobile uses the 1700 AWS band which this phone does not use so yes... You will NEVER get 3g or HSPA+ with T-Mobile U.S.

so when you say fine, the phone, 3g to get to the internet, etc etc will all work?
as it is here, the phone works great and when with wi-fi, the internet is great but EDGE sucks ass.
So, as I already know that I am beating the dead horse. 3G here with T-Mobile is never going to happen but it will work with AT+T, in Brazil, the phone for calls will work fine, 3G will also work fine too.
does anyone know about claro, vivo or oi in brazil? just wondering....
and what about other carriers in the US, will it work with anyone beside AT+T?
thanks again. this has been very useful!
EDGE runs on GPRS. Your phone matches TIM's UMTS frequencies so it will have 3G data on that network.

so if I have been schooled properly. T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100, so without the 1700 band, it wont work!

1. Yes
2. No. Jio VoLTE will NOT work.
3. Bands may be supported, but if there is 4G+ (LTE-A) in India, that may not work. And if you use a Jio SIM, only data will work, no voice calls due to lack of VoLTE.
4. No it won't.
5. Aside from the fact that VoLTE / LTE-A will not work on any network. Not really.
Regarding the band compatibility;
The S9+ USA model supports the following LTE bands (source: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s9+-8967.php)
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 14(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500), 46, 66(1700/2100), 71(600) - USA
India LTE bands (source: https://m.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=India)
LTE 850 (5), LTE 1800 (3), LTE 2100 (1), LTE 2300 (40), LTE 2500 (41)
So you should be fine regarding LTE compatibility (not sure about VoLTE and LTE-A).
Regarding warranty only the local Samsung customer service will be able to answer this 100% accurate (most likely no warranty).

As far as i know
1. No. You need to insert a country specific sim to activate/unlock the device.
2. No.
3. Yes. But in the first place you need to unlock the device which is not possible.
4. No.
5. You cannot root the device because bootloader is locked in snapdragon version and No carrier aggregation(LTE-A) support because the ca combinations are country/CSC specific.
Hi,
I have US bought tmobile unlocked s9+ device..JIO VOLTE doesnt work .. is it not fixable at all ?
Or is there a way out ?
Thanks
Bharat
M too facing same issue.
I researched a lot in last 2weeks on same but of no luck, found our that regarding volte the issue arising in many countries,
Small positive info got day before yesterday in s8forums Tgey said it was due to CSC in the firmware . And now a days all firmwares are multi CSC loaded, but since we used the phone in usa CSC from there was loaded, so I order load indian CNC we have to do the below.
if they just activated the phone after hard reset using indian sim they were able to use usa version with jio.. But I tried that too in vain no luck for us.
You may try above but.. you may lose data.. advise smart switch feature to sd card... if willing to do hard reset.
Please update if any luck
You may find ref link https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/how-to-install-indian-firmware-csc-inu-t3624953
I have not played with these before ..like installing firmware and all..mine is SM G965U model .. not sure the method mentioned would work ! 965F us international model ? And tweaks to this model only work not US models ?
I checked with Samsung too.. they said its country specific .. i dont know whether to try this method or leave as it is !!
Thanks
Even I got stuck over us CSC, and all samsung pay rewards which were only for us citizens..
Mine is G965U1, VOLTE doesnt work in india.
Since snapdragon not yet unlocked I had no options for VOLTE.. even If I do I may have to let go the Spay...
My advise don't Buy.. during deals we almost get similar rate e commerce sites in india...

Hey,
I am facing a similar issue. I got a unlocked USA S9 SM-G960U1.

Thanks in advance
I have a S9+ snapdragon from T-mobile. Recently visited India. Jio volte does not work which was expected. But Airtel had bad reception and the internet would not work even intermittently when the 4g symbol was in display. However, in the same location, side by side, another airtel number on moto g worked flawlessly.
Even though the S9+ specifications shows all the network bands supported by Airtel, i did not expect to face the above problem. I am planning to sell the phone in the USA and buy a oneplus from India.
[SOLVED] use JIO SIM card on S9+ US Version in India
I purchased an S9+ ATT in December 2018, tried to use JIO SIM in India but no luck , then I wanted to get rid of ATT logo, which comes up every time I reboot my device. Did some research then and came across this forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200.
Was able successfully flash my device to US Unlocked version from ATT version 4 months ago , now I can see VoLTE toggle. Again tried to use JIO SIM , didn't work . Since then my device gets regular OTA updates .
AIRTEL network in my area sucks, Now 09/2019 again I tired to use JIO SIM and it works flawlessly.

download the firmware for your carrier from www.sammobile.com/firmwares and flash it via Odin. If its the same android version, br sure to use the HOME_CSC file when flashing vs the normal CSC file to avoid an unnecessary factory reset. Flashing the HOME_CSC vs the CSC will allow you to keep all your stuff on your phone, CSC will factory reset it.

voLTE wont work unless you flash the CSC for your carrier on the device. voLTE is a carrier specific thing and requires the carrier specifc software to be installed which happens when the correct CSC file is on the device and the corresponding sim is entered

---------- Post added at 09:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ----------
as far as I know SM-G960U is AT&T version and SM-G960U1 is unlocked version. is VoLTE working on SM-G960U1 ROM
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s9/firmware/SM-G960U1/XAA/ which version should I use for my "SM-G960U" I dont want to upgrade so that I cant come back to old version.
I'm starting this thread to provide a more direct way for owners of the VOG-L04 P30 Pro variant to post some findings for people wanting to buy in the US.... Primarily if you can provide screen captures to prove some of the following:
1. With TMobile or ATT Sim in, Does the phone have wifi and / or VoLTE (use the cell network info app in the play store
2. Do you have wifi calling as an option in the network settings menu with ATT / TMobile Sim in?
3. Where / How did you get your phone? Buy online, cross the border, etc.
4. Any additional info you may want to share
With Band 66 on this phone and the possibility of better compatibility in the USA, we need your help to determine if we should wait for the L04 to become more available or just buy an international L09 / L29 if there's no real added benefit
Help us L04 owners, you're our only hope.....
Yeah, same. Wondering if Canada / Latin America variants have slightly better coverage in the US>
Im interested also
Me too! I believe there is a lot of interest regarding us "USA" consumers trying to find a better fit.
My AT&T SIM has been inactive too long, or I could help out. I'll see if I can obtain another one.
I got mine.
I live between USA and Peru. I just upgraded my plan and got the huawei P30 pro 256gb VOG-L04. For us$600.
Now is I am in San Francisco and using it. In peru I have volte and wifi calling option. But when I change sim cards.. The phone locks those options. Probably os because the phone is unlocked but attached to a carrier..
I get lte speed on 35 to 60 mbps in San Francisco using band 4. I don't know where to find lte 66. I will go to Guenerville, nyc. Boston during the next weeks and try the reception.
I highly doubt it will have VOLTE or wifi calling in any of the US carriers.
VoLTE looks to work just based on call connection speed, etc. Even though there's not a toggle for it. Wifi calling is a definite no
Don't count on getting WiFi Calling or VoLTE using AT&T SIM on VOG-L29
Unlike iPhone where iOS can download carrier settings, Andriod does not.
My dual sim L29 bought in Thailand will have VoLTE & WiFi calling options for all local SIM inserted. When I insert my AT&T, the two options disappears. I can get WiFi Calling using the same AT&T SIM in my iPhone X no problem.

What SIM card did you put in at the switch (carrier)? I think if you reset the phone to factory, then put the US SIM card, you may find you have those features. Just trying to troubleshoot everything here......

You don't need to be in the USA to try it out. Just put in your AT&T SIM card in the phone while in Canada or wherever you are on earth
Resetting the phone to factory won't help.

Actually it does. The first SIM card you put in dictates what "features" the phone downloads, the bloatware, if you will.
I put my local sim card. The option of carrier aggregation is on. With the tmobile sim card some options are off, like volte a d wifi calling. With my local sim card those options are on.

Not necessarily - it depends on what firmware the phone has. Phones sold in HK and most of SE Asia are, by law, unlocked. Bloatwares and "features" are already there with the out-of-box firmware.
When you update your firmware - that's another story.
Any updates on a reasonably easy way for USA customers to purchase this model? I'm almost ready...
I am headed to Germany in a few weeks again, I keep drooling over the UK model and I keep touching it fondly....
I dont really wanna give in and get one if the canada version fits better for north american customers.

We do know that the Canadian (Americas Model) has Band 66 as opposed to the International Versions... Its on Huawei site... So that's confirmed... AT&T and T-Mobile use Band 66 (launched 2016, 2017)... not everywhere as it is a newer band. Band 66 is an extension of Band 4.... What does that mean? From what I gather and someone maybe able to clarify that is a little more familiar with it, if a phone supports Band 4 and Band 66, it allows for more LTE headroom which results in faster speeds... not necessarily better reception...
With that said, I have the L29 on T-Mobile... do I notice any differences than the other countless phones I've had... No... but Band 66 may also not be a huge thing in Indianapolis either meaning there's nothing to test. In other words, the L04 is more compatible on paper... Is it a deal breaker... probably not. Especially when you can get the International Version on amazon.es shipped Global Priority with arrival by April 30th (if not faster) 256GB / 8GB Version for $918 USD... That's a deal... It hard to even find a L04 256GB / 8GB and good luck getting it at that price, even with the exchange rate.

Is that a no?
For me a no, living in Indianapolis. For you, living somewhere else where Band 66, it could be yes it does matter to wait for L04. Really depends on your current phone and cell company, does your current phone support band 66? If no, and you’re fine with it’s connection speeds for 4G LTE then get a L29... it subjective to the person and requires self research...

Might be a trade off....
Canadian Version will probably be a single SIM, but might have the necessary firmware to support AT&T's VoLTE & WiFi calling.
The former is hardware and can not be changed, the later is software/firmware. For me, Dual SIM is a must so it's an easy choice for me.
Why not get the L29 and try to get Canadian firmware? If that's doable...
Hi all,
I am trying to decide between getting a samsung galaxy tab s6 256gb UK LTE version from the amazon.co.uk. or the one from ebay South Korean version.
Has anyone got it from amazon.co.uk and use it in the US without making a phonecall in the UK first (I read the heshamy27's success with the egyptian sim)? Could I use the tablet to make a phone call?
I am currently using galaxy note 10.1 2014 T-mobile edition with google FI simcard.
Thank you.
One of the problems you'll have with either of the suppliers you have mentioned is you'll likely get hammered for import duty.
Do you not know anyone in who might be coming to the UK soon who could carry one back for you?
Even better, you could let them have a sim of the carrier you want to use to test in the UK while they're here.
@pinsb unfortunately I have nobody is going to the UK this year. It would have been awesome.
I am more concerned about the région lock for the tablet. Hmm.. Does it mean, I will not be able to use the tablet at all?
I wish T-Mobile had the 256gb model available for purchase here in the states.

This was just a way for me to get an unlocked LTE model without waiting for the US Carriers with their usual locked bootloaders. I am not sure of other ways to do it. Plus I wanted a 256GB version and I was not sure if the US Carriers would be selling that one.

Hi,
Does yours work properly with LTE after the last update ?
I got the same SM-T865N and found out that if I set up LTE/3g, it will not connect to internet. However, setting it up for 3g only works OK and will work even with LTE if switched after.
Same behavior with several Canadian providers. Hard reset did not fix it and my provider's CS can't do much more than making sure everything looks OK on their end.
Could you please test it and let me know your results ?
Thanks,

Need to check the LTE Bands in use and Frequencies supported on the tablet. I use T-Mobile in the US and in most places I do not have an issue but I have found in some places they use a different LTE band in a city and I see LTE but internet is not working. Check your carrier bands and frequencies and compare to these:
Network
2G GSM
GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900
3G UMTS
B1(2100), B2(1900), B4(AWS), B5(850), B8(900)
4G FDD LTE
B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B13(700), B17(700), B20(800), B25(1900), B26(850), B28(700), B32(1500), B66(AWS-3)
4G TDD LTE
B38(2600), B40(2300), B41(2500)

I see.
But I meant something slightly different.
Even in places with a good coverage, if I reboot the tablet while it is set to LTE/3g, it does show LTE but will not get connected to the network, no matter how long I may wait.
To get it connected, I have to manually switch it to 3G and it will get connected immediately. Then I can switch back to LTE and it will work properly on LTE until I shut the tablet off.
There is definitely something wrong with either this model or its current firmware. That is why I wanted to double check to know whether it's a common issue or just me.
I will try to contact Samsung support to get more info.
In the meantime, I would not mind flashing a different version if that brings the solution.
I am not sure it can be done.
Thanks
I just got a 256gb lte version in eBay from Korea. It works well with Google Fi. But it's kinda pricy compare to the standard wifi version in the US.
I tried the unlocked Sprint one and no VoLTE and no VoWifi. Does anyone have the unlocked ATT version LM-G850U on TMobile and if so, do VoLTE and VoWifi work?
Got one today.
No go. No VoLTE, no VoWifi.
I have a sprint version .someone find tricks to unlock
This VoLTE method probably does not work for Sprint version, but maybe someone can try it on AT&T version?

Those switches are greyed out on mine, which is (unintentionally) the Canadian version. But I have been told it is greyed out because VoLTE/Wifi Calling aren't enabled on the carrier side. In my case Ting says that my phone has LTE Band 12 and therefore VoLTE, but that will only work on ATT. A bit confusing because (like I said) the particular rom on my phone is Canadian (LMG850UM20e), so why ATT? The explanation for that, it seems is that ATT, (Sprint), and the unlocked Canadian version have the same sub-model (of the G8X - LMG850): LMG850UM. The USA unlocked version a different sub-model (LMG850QM), the rest of the world has yet another sub-model (LMQ850EMW). See this reddit post on the different models: https://www.reddit.com/r/LGG8X/comments/hvqdy4/hey_g8x_owner_what_is_the_submodel_number_and/
As far as I know all models (LMG850......) have the same hardware, the only difference are the roms, which artificially disable certain capabilities of the phone. I am pretty sure my phone would do VoLTE just fine on Ting (or most other carriers). The thing wrong here, I think, is that the IMEI and other specific identifiers of the phone artificially show that the phone does not have the functionality.
With all that said, I am still trying to find my around this problem. I'm considering flashing a different rom, tho not sure if that'll change what the IMEI and the other specific identifiers tell the cell carrier about compatibility. There is one report of T-Mobile supposedly fixing the same problem for a customer, see u/Veshtarii's comments on this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/LGG8X/comments/irm2as/lg_g8x_unlocked_models_having_issues_with_us/
I also plan to keep updating this XDA forum post https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g8X/help/unable-to-enable-volte-wifi-calling-t4185809 with what I find out about this problem, potential solutions, and hopefully what solves it. Hopefully my post will be useful to those with the same problem.
I have concluded it's not possible on any TMO towers. See my forum post for more details: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g8X/help/unable-to-enable-volte-wifi-calling-t4185809
Odd since t-mobile now owns Sprint. You would think t-mobile would allow or update the sprint version to use wifi/volte etc..
Perhaps future t-mobile firmware/security updates will patch the sprint to use these services.. Certainly NOT customer friendly for those who migrated from sprint to t-mobile.
I can understand the att version not working w t-mobile but not the sprint version

Maybe, I'm not sure still, even after all the research I've done. But I don't know everything of course. Also, after looking on ebay, the LMG850QM is like 450$ at the cheapest, compared to the 250$ of the LMG850UM ATT or Sprint versions, (the Canadian unlocked version is like 200$).

This MAY HELP
I have a Sprint unlocked version, runs on T-Mobile. No wifi-calling menu.
BUT I downloaded and installed an app from Play Store called Wifi Calling written by Widget7 (get the right one), This simple app appeared to turn on the wifi-calling feature in the hidden menu. Long story short, I got wifi- calling on T-Mobile.

The WiFi Calling app only reveals the hidden menu, nothing more.
T-Mobile have VoLTE on by default. You can disable it by selecting different types of mobile networks such as Automatic 3G/2G, LTE/3G, or 2G only. I have no experience on this.
I have confirmed this by dialing *#*#4636#*#* Both data and voice are over LTE. And the VoLTE on/off button is grayed out (based on the type of mobile network selected).

if I have a sprint model, will it work fully on tmobile with volte and wifi calling?
