Do you know if it's possible to downgrade to Stock 8.0 using odin from stock 9.0? I tried this approach, but odin wouldn't do anything...Nothing installed. Anyone knows the reason?

Well, it would be best to say things bluntly so that you do not try in vain. Depending on your firmware version, the bootloader is in version 6 and therein lies the problem.
If the firmware you download has a different bootloader than the one you currently have, you will not be able to flash. You can if you have a lower bootlaoder and upgrade to a higher one, but not from top to bottom
Android Oreo seems to me that it does not have its bootloader higher than version 3 or 4 (I don't remember well) and Android Pie will soon update the bootloader to version 7. For now it is impossible to flash an Oreo rom if you have your device updated
To know what your bootloader number is, you must count four characters after your model, the fourth is the version number. In your case it is G965FXXU>6<CSGD

Unfortunately.. you can't officially downgrade because of the bootloader version.

I've been trying to download since last night, those servers they use suck big time. Lots of crashes.
Is there any noticeable difference in this ? I know it Lollipop but is it no big deal ?

Hey, generally sites that host firmwares tend to be quite ****ty so i guess it would be better if you did a Google search of the firmware you want to download . When I tried to download the french lollipop update from sammobile host I was getting ultra low download speeds so I searched the firmware name and went to another site that had better bandwidth to download. I just haven't installed the update yet as I want to be sure that it can get rooted. Sadly I cannot provide any links for you atm cause I am not home but when I'll get the chance I will pm you .

Dear friends,
I want to ask why Moto Z XT1650 - 03 Retail EU, now doesn't have the full 7.0 firmware yet? Most of version, like RETMX, RETLA, RETCA, TELUS, those have 7.0 full firmware.
Now I would like to unlock bootloader and root my device, but I am afraid of this process will have some issue, I need to re-flash the firmware.
I have already OTA to 7.0
Are there some people can tell me where I can downlaod the full firmware of Retal EU? Or this version will not be released?
Thank you,
You have to ask Lenovo/Motorola why they haven't released officially signed recovery images yet. As of now, you can safely flash RETBR as RETEU, but won't be able to relock the bootloader. But that was already discussed several times.
But the question is that, where can I find the firmware of RETBR ?
Could you please provide the link or share drive to me ?
If I root failed, so I don't want to flash back to 6.0, you know My bootloader was up to date.

Forgive my stupidity. I can see how to get the info, but exactly which one is the boot loader version? Seeing as there as nothing that specifically says bootloader, I’m confused. The only “U” I see is in multiple reference to the N950U1. Is that the BL version? As in I have version 1? Thanks in advance.

Nope, not a peep. Must be some sort of National secret.
Look at baseband version in software information under phone info in settings.
Bootloader (BL) version is 5th digit from right:
In my case baseband is N950U1UES5CRG9, so my BL version is 5.
N950USQS5CRK1 is bootloader version 5, right?
Yes

You could try flashing the unlocked version of the firmware, but that only changes the boot animation to a different one. With my sprint phone it went to the stock Samsung one after flashing the firmware for the G965U1
Otherwise no way I know of to customize it. Things like that require root access which we don't have.

Just keep in mind flashing the G965U1 firmware may cause certain sprint features to not work.
The G965U1 is from the non carrier branded phone so it is the most generically compatible firmware. Any carrier specific additions added to the firmware by the carrier wouldn't be present.
Like for example the tmobile firmware has the video calling built into the dialer. With the g965U1 firmware it is not present.

If your using Samfirm app to download the firmware you search for the model SM-G965U1 and then XAA for the region.

The only thing I can see causing the issue is the bootloader version. You can only flash firmware with the same bootloader version or higher then what is currently installed on your phone.
To locate the bootloader version look at your baseband version. Start at the very right hand side count left 5 characters inwards. The number that is present would be the bootloader version.
Using the example below the bootloader version would be number 5
G965USQS5CSEA

Your are on bit ( bootloader ) ver 9 you are trying flash firmware with ver 7. You can not downgrade firmware. You need to find ver 9 or higher ( 5th number/letter from right of firmware file name ) to be able to flash.
You could try a pc app called frija to download latest version. You have to search here on xda as i can't post links at the monemt.
