To the Xperia Tablet S owners, is it worth buying?

Hi,
Today Xperia Tablet S starts selling in U.K., just want honest opinion from actual owners, is it worth buying?
Share your views and brief opinion about ur Xperia Tablet, m wondering if anyone purchased yet :silly:
Please rate using Voting button, thanks..
My other options are:
1. NEXUS 7 (cheap n best, but not yet available in SG)
2. Galaxy Note 10.1 (pricy n not as smooth as SGS3 or Nexus 7)
I actually just sold my Nexus 7, it wasn't what I was hoping for, smooth yes, but lacked functionality and was "too" Google for me.
The Xperia is launched tomorrow, not today - i've already got one reserved which i'll pic up tomorrow, but the store has said I can play with the demo model first

M also quite certain that I will buy XTS once its available in Singapore, just hope it gains popularity amongst devs !!
Nexus7 in malaysia is not so cheap. Could get the tablet s or acer iconia for that said price.
A friend of nine has the tablet s, and i really like it, so am really interested with the tablet s. Would probably buy it. But i atleast need root to install ubuntu.

Nexus7 is too small,16G is too small, samsung 10.1 is expensive, tablet s will upgrade to 4.1,so i will choice tablet s.
Agreed. As I've said before, anyone upgrading/downgrading from a Tablet S to a Nexus 7 (or vice versa) should be bloody sure they know what they're doing. The two devices are a whole different beast to use and live with. That 2.4-inch difference in screen sizes changes a lot. There's also the many differences in functionality and features that mean thy are each suited to a completely different user style. Each to their own, I guess, but I'm always surprised.

Totally agree with you. Ultimately, i think the buying decision should be what you're using your tablet for, hence for me, i chose the sony tablet s for its screen size (reading comics, magazines). Im not comfortable with 7inch form factor. Specs imo should come second. Real time user experience should always be first.
With that said, the new kindlefire HD's (7.0 & 8.9) is givin me the headache at the moment. Seems like a very decent offerings from amazon.

It certainly looks good aesthetically. From what i've heard, Sony seems to have addressed the problems with the previous tablet, (wifi, speakers, etc). The aluminium body and splash resistant is a plus definitely.
How much do you reckon the price is gonna in Singapore? Any idea?

Post a mini review!!! :victory: What was your previous tablet?

Terrible lagginess with Autodesk

Hello guys,
I was doing a sketch on the Autodesk sketch programme, and was absolutely shocked at how bad the lag was when zooming. Sometimes I would try to zoom, nothing happened for about 10 seconds, then when I let go, the tablet would zoom in out in out etc for about 15 seconds without me touching it! Incredibly bad.
I dont know if it has something to do with the screen resolution, but I am going to return this tablet, it is sadly not even in the same ballpark as the ipad wrt fluidity. Can you imagine David Hockney putting up with that? No way.
Sadly
Mark.
It's most likely the program itself (the Nexus 10 has some pretty beefy hardware)... I suggest emailing Autodesk and request that they optimize it for the Nexus 10.
Also, I just tried the program. Zooming isn't as optimal as I would like, but it's nowhere near as bad as 10-second delay (more like 1-2 seconds in my case). To be completely fair though, I'm on a custom ROM/Kernel, and also my sketch was just 3 letters I drew with lines (nothing extremely complex at all).

Who?
The image I had made was only 4 layers, and was 1500x1700 approx... not a big deal at all... so it's really shocking that it would take over 10 seconds trying to catch up with zooming commands.
David Hockney is one of the world's most famous living artists. He recently had a massive exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art and one of the seven rooms he filled with landscapes was HUGE (6 meters high) "paintings" done on the ipad. I was in awe as to how he could get such resolution and be able to work on it on a tablet. No such luck, obviously, on the N10
Mark.

Try to activate "force gpu rendering" in developer options. This might help a lot. If not that just means that autodesk have to update their software to work properly on 4.2 / n10 . PS to activate developer options go to "about device" and tap the build number couple of times

Hi beeboss,
i tried that and it did not help much, still getting at least 5 or 6 seconds of zooming after I stop touching the screen.
cheers
Mark.
I think that some time should be given for developers to optimize their apps. A15 processor is complete new, and never used before , so the code can't use all the power of cpu and gpu. To speed up the process try to contact autodesk through google play, i'm sure the next update will fix this issue .

Autodesk on Android is a horrible iOS port. That's your problem. Not the hardware.

No problem
To be honest, i am finding the speaker perfectly capable. Not as good as the HTC One obviously but it is better than the normal Xperia Z.
However, i often use headphones so i do not disturb others around me when i am watching video or listening to music etc. The speaker does sound good though and i have not had any issues with it. It sounds quite smooth, also rather full and not tinny. The sound it produces feels like it has some body to it at least.
Where did you get it? I'm trying to get my hands on one in Norway, but it ain't easy. I guess i'll just have to wait until it gets released in Europe in september, but i'm just curious. Nice video btw! I'll take a look at the "BAD POINTS" video now

I ordered mine from a store in Hong Kong. Received it about 6 days after ordering. However I had to pay about 1500,- DKK in customs tax. Total cost was 6900 DKK. I was kinda desperate and had no intentions of waiting until September lol
But yeah, I love the phone. Really really amazing device.

I was the same as you but to be honest 2 things made up my mind.
1: the note 3 will have worse design and look uglier than the Z Ultra. Not as premium.
2: it won't be as big either. I want the biggest phone I can carry so yeah

Here in Denmark we get 3G speeds up to 25 mbits easily. LTE is not really needed by me. I just consider it a battery drain

It cost me £775 including customs vat. Expensive I know but yeah. Being a tech geek isn't cheap haha. Plus I really did not want to wait 2 months for the European release.
Honestly though, I paid about £500 for the HTC one on release and I felt disappointed and had buyers remorse fairly fast.
However, having spent almost £800 on the Z Ultra, I feel nothing but happiness because the device really is that good. I can't emphasise enough just how blazing quick the phone feels and how beautiful the screen is.

I was tempted to do it myself but for the sake of just over a month I think I'll wait. The UK retail is £612 at clove, and that is with a few accessories. I might be able to pick it up cheeper elsewhere.
Im on 3 and due for an upgrade. They have already said they will carry it, but unfortunately I think its going to be bootlocker unlockable version. I will just shop around and pick one up then go on a sim only contract.
Im also waiting to see if someone will bring out a powerjacket device like they did for the Xperia Z.
Looks like it will me my next device though. I like big phones, I have a note 2 and I just bought the mrs the 6.3" mega (she has basic needs). All in all really looking forward to it.

Ah OK, thanks. I think i'll just wait for it to hit the stores here One other thing, how are third party apps? Are they running in phone mode? Tablet mode? I'm going to kick it into tablet mode when the ZU gets rooted (if all apps are running in phone mode), since i personally think it's a waste of space to use phone mode on a screen this size.
First of all thanks for the vids. A bit worried on the battery front so waiting to see what note 3 has to say for itself. You did say battery is as good as note 2 which works well for me st the moment. What a beauty! Home run for Sony at long last.

Nice videos.
I have few questions.
1. Are you facing overheating issues, have you tried playing heavy HD games for long hours. If it does overheat how bearable is it??
2. Few Xperia Z users who have faced with overheating issue have found out that the glass panel has raised near the camera, which is the place of overheating. were you able to see any such issue if it's overheating??
3. Does the screen work if we put the device to a sweaty face ?? our sweat contains a little amount of salt, so if i put the device near to my sweaty ear, will it affect the device and make it unusable ??
Thanks

Gear A

I really like the S but I'm sure I'll like the A better. What are your thoughts on buying now? Looks like the battery is going to be smaller on the A and there screen is smaller so those are a couple of things the S has that the A doesn't.

I have also an LG-R and round screen is good for round analog face but very bad for all others smartwatches features
Alsaw had the moto360.. round may look good as a watch. But functionality sucks..and same with apps wich are not ment for round screen.
Beside the ga looks good 2..who said that a watch Must be round!
I vote 4 gs
From what ive read about the specs, i don't think there will be a 3g version...so in reality another dumb watch like the rest of them...romote conectivity is amazing and adds real usefulness to a smart watch!!!
My vote goes to GS also. Really love the device. Round is overrated. (also have a lg-r)

Bye Bye Note 7

Seems like carriers are completely stopping note 7 sales
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...ng-galaxy-note-7-recalled-second-time-1330206
This may be the end of Note 7, maybe note series. After skipping Note 5 from Europe, now this big mess with battery.... this is not good for us or for samsung.
Sent from my SM-N920C using XDA-Developers mobile app
According to Engadget Samsung have now ceased production of the note 7. Grain of salt required as usual it's an unverified source but if true then note 7 is dead in water. Its a wise move for safety but those who are awaiting preorders will move along and those of us with replacements will just spend the next few weeks wondering what the future holds and how we will fare in getting a replacement or refund
Really hoping for a statement from Samsung, they probably have analyized 2 or 3 of the 4 of the "replacements" that have exploded...
I just saw that Samsung has stopped production again, they should give up on it and move on its a bad phone

Go for the OP3. The axon is amazing in terms of specs and build quality, but the software bugs are killer. I have a family plan with my coworker and he was convinced that the axon 7 was the best and bought it.... he now kind of regrets it since his signal is very unreliable compared to mine right beside him. ZTE is aware of it and they are putting together an update but its been weeks and there isnt any update from them about when itll come. With going through the forums for the OP I dont really see as many software bugs that stand out though. Now if specs is all you care about then go for it, just dont expect too much out of a budget brand when it comes to updates.
The Note 7 is as good as dead.
Their fatal mistake this time was to reuse their Samsung SDI batteries instead of ATL for the replacement units.
Either that or there is a flaw in the design. Perhaps the device is too tightly sealed.
