Dex questions: Hiding the taskbar. Others needed to request this feature! - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

Did some searching on here and Google but came up with nothing. Even tried to contact someone at Samsung and basically got hungup on (used the online chat feature, they quit talking to me after asking for my device model).
So I got the keyboard cover case since it was half off when I ordered my S6 and this is the real first time I've played around with Dex even though it's on several of my other devices. Just never liked having to need a seperate monitor, mouse, and keyboard basically.
My big complaint right now is that the taskbar at the bottom doesn't hide when an app like Samsung Internet is open and Ican't figure out any way to hide it. I'd love to hide the blinding white top bar too, but the taskbar takes up more room and is just more noticable while using the apps, to me anyways.
So my question is, is there any way to hide the taskbar and/or top app bar?
UPDATE: I managed to get in touch with someone at Samsung. They said hiding the bars is not something that can be done, but they will pass the info along as a request for a furture feature. So I encourage others to make a request on their website for this to be added. Might not be a huge deal on larger screens, but when using it built-in with the Tab S6 or other small screens the extra realestate would be grand. I believe I found an easy way to make the request using either the Samsung Members app or in the Dex settings Contact Us section while I was using Dex.

Kindly share a link to the Samsung site where I can make this request as well.

I'm using shortcutter for immersive mode and the keyboard is running fine. In DeX mode I made shortcut for quick navbar hiding/showing.

When app is in full screen mode the taskbar is hidden.

[IDEA][APP] auto hide widget widget

I'm not sure if it is possible but I have an idea of a widget:
It's a widget that contains another widget that will auto after a specific condition (perhaps with llama/tasker?)
Examples:
hide music widget of choice if there's no music playing or headset plugged in.
Hide (school) timetable if you're not at that location.
Show GPS/traffic widget if not at home/school/work.
You might think of another great use yourself.
This is just an idea, and since I'm no app developer myself, (at least not yet) I hope one of the great android developers that are on these fora will take an interest in this project.
Sent from my SHV-E160L 32GB with XDA HD
But why hide the widget? That space where the widget that hid the other widget is still unusable because the widget can become transparent, but it can not remove itself from the home screen and then put itself back, since adding widgets is a system level command. And if it could do what I just said it can't, what if you put apps/shortcuts/widgets in its place, where would they go? I might be over thinking this whole idea a little but that's just my two cents. I do have a similar idea now that I read this, though. Use Tasker to restore backed up Nova/Holo/Adw/Apex/Etc, settings and home screen layouts based on what you said in your first post. That is probably going to take way longer to do, but it get the same effect and could probably save battery that way too. I mean, if I make a Tasker profile set up so that whenever I connect to my schools wifi, that it restores a previous backed home screen and settings layout. My phone always dies at school, so my home screen would become blank, with no dock or status bar, and just have gestures set up so that I can still get to my apps (swipe up for drawer, down for notifications, two fingers up for phone app, and two fingers down for messaging). With nothing on my home screen, I save battery because the Launcher does not have to load any thing. Android itself might be a limitation for what we're saying here, but maybe Key Lime Pie could bring us closer to that.

Thank you for the reply, PenguinxEnjoi
I can see now that my idea can be a bit confusing.
I just had the idea to hide the widget when I don't need it so it doesn't clog up my lock/home screen.
If it means turning it invisible I'd like that just as much as removing it. I just don't want to see it.

If this is possible it would totally be an option. Especially since I'm using widgetlocker and nova launcher.
This will probably be done using intents (if it's supported) but I've only begun using tasker (after llama) so I'm still not sure how they work.
Have you found the way to auto hide widgets for example with Tasker?
extension!?
I have been trying to find a way to recreate a menu pop down resembling the app drawer menu on my desktop and yes...there are many hurdles to be made through an auto hide feature. Why there cant be an app writin that works along with zooper pro or uccw (or done internaly themselves) that can acknowlege a widget name and link it to a static bitmap/icon within another widget as in a"press on" action is beyond me. I know that is probably the last thing those two companies wanna do but it would really make it fun for the average joe just trying to create something fresh and different for their own pride and joy. I havent had much luck getting any reaponse on this. Lol obviously due to a lack reason. And no im not talking about the chocolate covered carmel candy. Bit if any of you developers out there want to take a stab at it. Looks like there is a code writtin in a somewhat similar context that i believe could work. In the end. Its us vs. Them. Hope to see something more happen with this.
And of course..i am mot allowed to copy and paste outside links yet. Thanks XDA. but if you type in."auto hide widget" in google it should be the second link you see. Hope someone makes this a reality. Will be watching for developments.:silly:
Pop up widgets from the developer of the sslauncher. Does the trick nicely. Also you can use swipepad with the widgetpad addon. Works nice for me. Widget here, widget gone

you could use overlays (paid version) which integrates in tasker (free version does not)

How do I disable multi window pop up view?

Not too often, but once in a while I accidentally minimize apps into pop up view. How do I disable that? I was digging through the settings and couldn't find it.
Please. Anyone!?
By reading the manual?

I don't think the guy knows how to disable it either, otherwise he would have posted it.

Yeah it's annoying me too, I've already minimized by accident a handful of times when I was trying to swipe down to get the notifications bar. If you find a setting let us know!
Very annoying
This is how it works... Don't know how you disable it though
So now you’ve mastered Multi Window mode, but there’s something else of note tangentially connected to that. Samsung included a cool feature from the Note 4 called Pop-up View that works with any app that supports Multi Window (and only those apps). Basically, you get a resizeable floating app window that you can move around the screen. You can even have more than one and minimize them to floating icons.
There are three ways to go about this: long press on an app in the multitasking UI, drag down from the top right corner when an app is open, or use the pop up button when you have an app in Multi Window mode.
You can arrange these floating windows however you want, drag content between them, and maximize them to full screen at any time.

I don't think you can disable it, unfortunately. I hope someone proves me wrong though.
I was looking for this too. As soon as i got the device I kept accidentally re-sizing windows.
How do you resize windows on the s6 edge? There should be a setting under device called multiwindow...I know my note 4 has it, but I can not find it on the newer lollipop device.

start from left or right top corner, quickly swipe down to the bottom of the other corner, like from top left to bottom right.
I found the new MultiWindow gesture pretty annoying. On my S6 every time I swept down on the notification bar using one hand I'd always create a floating window. On other Galaxy devices there is a Quick Toggle to turn the MultiWindow feature off/on. The ability to control the feature is still in the S6 however it is not exposed in the user interface. I wrote a small application that can either enable/disable MultiWindow or bring back the MultiWindow Quick Toggle. It was primarily written for the Galaxy S6 however it should work on most of the devices that include Samsung's MultiWindow. Look for " MultiWindow Toggle for Samsung" on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle
it worked!! Thanks a lot!

Worked perfectly on my G920V. Thanks!! I am amazed that Samsung hid the ability to disable this feature given how annoying and (seemingly) unnecessary it is with the new app switcher.
Worked brilliantly - thanks!
Simple
To disable it simply go to
Settings - (Device) Multi window - and disable Pop up view shortcut.
Tested on my Note 4 with android 5.0.1 stock
Ok you guys need to tap the soft key not push it because if you do you are going to get a split screen! Try it go on FB and then push and hold the left soft key and see what happens! My wife was doing the same thing!
There is a multi window toggle app for free in the app store
On my note 3: settings > display > multi window > (uncheck) pop-up view shortcut

Dex on/off App

Hello,
I found an App in Tab S4 called "Samsung Dex On/Off" as attached but I didn't found in my tablet.
Anyone can tell me how to install it?
Thanks
My guess is it's to enable/disable DeX Mode? If you don't have it, there should be a toggle in your Quick Settings Panel somewhere...
That app is part of the retail demo mode. I was looking for it myseld but have not been able to find it anywhre.
Yes. I also found that in Samsung Retail Shop but the salesperson didn't know how to get it. I try to find it in the web but nothing.

If you want to enable Dex, you should be able to find it and toggle it via the Quick settings Panel (see screenshot)
Thanks diehardbattery.
Yes. I use it to toggle the Dex Mode. But don't know why in the Dex Mode, No such Toggle in the Quick Setting Pane to let me back to the normal. I need to go to Setting, then put Dex Off.
That's why I want to use such App.

Gotcha. You might want to check for updates though. Because recently I noticed a new button in the lower left corner of the screen in DeX mode, with one of the options being to exit DeX Mode. I have an app called Desktop Hub which adds features to DeX, so I'm not sure if its that app doing it, or Samsung themselves that added it.

I mainly got it for the alternative start menu. It's better than stock but still somewhat awkward to use.. I don't remember what I paid for it as it was some time ago... but I don't think it was $10...
Icon Dexs
You Need to Download Activity Launcher from Play Store. Then You open the app, and go Recent Activities is in the top menu and touch the arrow in your right side. when you open, is going to be two options and touch ALL ACTIVITIES .
Wait for a few seconds is going to open all the apps is in your device. Scroll down and search for Samsung Dex and Touch Samsung Dex. Is going to open another Samsung Dex in the bottom. Press the Samsung Dex for a few seconds and going to launch a window with four options, touch the 2nd one. is going to say CREATE SHORTCUT. After that just follow the steps and is going to create a shortcut in your device.
Sorry for my bad writing in English and i hope you understand. and i hope this method help you.

I really haven't used it enough to give a recommendation one way or the other. But, I will say that if you want a more PC like interface for that, instead of a more Android like one that is stock, then yeah. However there might be other DeX addons or enhancements that I'm not aware of that could be cheaper...

Swipe down for notification bar

Hello there,
I had a quick question about the swiping down gesture.
Every android phone I've had let me swipe down from pretty much anywhere on the screen to open the notification bar.
The Oppo Reno 10x however requires me to swipe from the very top edge of the screen, and even then it seems to dislike it when I try from the center of the top of the screen.
Is there a way to disable the swipe down opening this app list search menu? I find it very unintuitive.

Use lawnchair.
Well yes, using a different launcher is a possibility I had considered, but is there literally no option to do so on the standard ColorOS one?
Good question, really want that feature on Oppo launcher, but I doubt there will be a possibility unless Oppo will implement it via software.

And would you happen to know of a good one that replaces swiping down entirely?
The ones I seem to have found only work on the edges and replace all gestures in their respective zones. Which would be an okay workaround (if I select only say, right edge swipe down = notifications) but a bit convoluted and unwieldy as well.
Oh i feel you! I don't want to part with the stock launcher for the slick animations. My workaround at the moment is the app notification draw on the home screen. It isn't the best solution but all there is atm I guess.
The workaround is to use the Assistive Ball. You can tap it to drop down the notification shade.
I'd much prefer that Oppo had taken a leaf from Huawei and LG's book and added the option for a fourth soft key to drop down notifications from any screen as it's too tall to reach comfortably.
But the Assistive Ball will solve for both notification drop down and screen off without reaching for the power button (in addition to one-tap lockscreen). Inelegant yet a solution all the same.
good workaround

Assistive ball is good workaround.
I got sick of Assistive Ball constantly needing to be moved around and ditched the stock launcher.
OPPO should fix this, a phone as tall as the Reno 10x needs a better way to get to the notification shade.
Surprise find - the "One-Tap Lockscreen" shortcut is actually an app, so you can map gestures like double tap in third party launchers to it in order to lock the screen without resorting to janky workarounds like accessibility options or screen timeouts.

Question Gesture Navigation Bar/Pill/line whatever its called

Hi,
is there a way to get rid of the Navigation Line at the bottom of the Screen when using gesture mode? Asus unfortunatly doesnt give the option like Samsung for example to hide it.
im a noob and dont know if theme modification is a thing at all or if i must switch completely to a different OS
thank you very much!

unfortunately it is not possible to remove the pill by making Asus native gestures work. What is possible is to remove the pill (using the entire screen) and use gestures from third-party applications. For me it is the best option. root is required

On March 31, Asus released an update (WW-33.0804.2060.113) that allows you to hide the navigation bar. There's a new learning curve when navigating with gestures without the navigation bar, and after a month like that, I don't miss the navigation bar.
