Good morning.
I know that I'm a little late to the party but I just picked up a used 2nd gen.
It's showing android wear 1.1.1.1987119 and google play services 7.5.73 with android OS 5.1.1
From what I've read I was expecting it to get the Android wear 2.0 update over the air- but when I check for updates it says it's up to date.
I've installed the "old" android wear app and that was helpful in getting some of the features to set up correctly but it still says that google play services needs to be updated in order to load a few apps.
Is it possible to root and install custom recovery and flash the update--- or --- is there anything that I can do to "make" it do the OTA update?

Why don't you just update Play Services? What happens when you try that?

It does't ever update.
when I open keep notes- it says that it needs a new version of play services and that it will start shortly but nothing ever happens.
Is there a way to sideload updated play services?

Try launching Play store see what happens.
You've done a factory reset right? And have 2.0 on the device correct?
I have same issue. I got moto 360 2nd gen, with android wear 1.3.0.2230669 but updated google play services 9.8.76 and android OS 5.1.1 . Some times its says updated with white checlist on green screen. But sometimes it will downloading the update. But after installing the update it will failed after about 30% progress and show android with red rectangle icon.
What should I do to update it?

Well, first of all which version of Android you are currently running ? I think your device isn't supporting the latest version of the Google Play Services anyway as you said you are trying to the install the older version of Google Play Services app which is showing signature error it can be fixed by change your device data and time to something old and one more thing once you changed the date over the Android device switch the data connection off and it will start installing the application. Once the application installs you can change the date of the device back to what it previously was.... and can also turn the data connection on it will automatically update the version of the Google Play Services app if that was feasible ! :fingers-crossed: Hope that works for you !

Hi!
I own a Motorola Moto X 2nd gen, model XT1097 (brazilian retail), running the official Android 5.0 released by Motorola, rooted and bootloader unlocked.
After the manual installation of the Google Play Services 6.5.88 (1599915-836) version, I have lost the Smart Lock functionality. I have tried many times to uninstall this update, and manually install the correct version for my device, the 6.5.87 (1599771-438), what brings back the funcionality. But, after some time, the system automatically updates to the wrong version again and again.
I have tried many ways to avoid this, using apps that disable auto updates (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sequoiaz.disableautoupdate) and that disable services (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice). This last one, I used following the instructions of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/tip-disable-android-update-t2876674. I have disabled the backup of my account, and even deleted all the data backed up of my device at the Google servers. But, unfortunately, no one of these methods have success.
Please, what can I do for my device mantain the appropriate version, and have the Smart Lock functionality restored?
Thank you very much, and sorry for my bad English!
Have you tried this:
Go to settings->Apps->Google play services and press "Uninstall updates". Confirm the dialogue.

Yes, I did it. After that, I've manually installed the correct version, but, the auto update overwrite it with the wrong version.
Thanks!!! it worked for me in lollipop...Please go to the downloaded section of the apps!!
Is there any working method to keep certain version of Google Play Store and prevent it from auto updating itself in CM12.1 (Android 5.1)?
I've read a tutorial on XDA (LINK) about creating specific folders but my GPS is still updating itself to 6.2.10.A-all version.
In this version I have error code 963 while updating my applications.
In "factory version" of Google Play Store (5.0.36) I don't have this problem, and applications updates correctly (so, now I have to remove GPS update and restore to factory version, update my apps - I have to do these steps every time I want to update my apps because GPS is auto updating itself to the newest version after launching it)
unistal the current google play store and install play store apk version you wish to work with it
thats it

Last night I tried to open Google play to download an app and I got this error message "Google Play Store has stopped" I've tried every single solution I could find listed on the internet and I can't fix this issue.
I've cleared cache/data, made sure downloads app was enabled, reset app settings, disabled the play store, installed an earlier version using an apk, I even booted into safe mode and still I can't get Google Play Store to work.
I'm using an S9 G960F with Android version 8.0.0 Samsung Experience version 9.0, 1 June 2018 Security Patch Level
Play Store version is 11.1.30-all
Edit: Just realised that the Google App doesn't work either; when I open it it gives me the error: Google has stopped.
You did not say if Google would give option to log in? Sometimes if you disable Google acct & log back in that gets you back in?

If you have any experience in flashing in twrp and stuff...
Then if you are rooted then uninstall all gapps in your rom by searching google in titanium backup....
Then downloads gapps for your android version and flash in recovery....
Not sure but hope this will work
Thanks to everyone that replied. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've just been busy with work and stuff. Anyway, it turns out the issue was caused by Swift Installer a theme app. I updated the theme overlay and it fixed the issues.
THIS IS A T95 H616 DUAL BAND MODEL.
As is obvious by now, this box is known for Google Play issues. My box did come with regular Google Play Store as opposed to the TV version but it down right refuses to update to the latest version and if I try to install via APK I always get 'App not installed'. Since the device does have ROOT out of the box I took the opportunity to make things a bit more useable in that department by installing Magisk, and I have been able to manually update the Play Store to the latest version and it works just fine but I don't want to have to do it this way every time. The box can live with the Play Store being completely uninstalled using this method and I thought I'd try installing from scratch. Nope. It still gives me 'App not installed'. I've even tried manually creating the folders and moving the APK to /data/app/, setting the relevant permissions and ownership but still this was a no-go as when I restarted the device every change I'd made in there had been cleared. What else can I try?
android 10 doesn't let you modify the system partition period. the only ways to modify it are via magisk modules, flashing the whole rom with your mods included or maybe via TWRP (which we don't have).
I've noticed on this box that it doesn't like having it's system apps removed either, others have said the changes won't stick or you'll get a bootloop. freezing system apps does work however, I was able to freeze the ATV YouTube and install Vanced.
on the play store front I've not had too many problems other than paid apps not showing as paid for about 24 hours after a factory reset. I haven't checked what version it was on or whether it was latest, I'll go and look now.

It has actually been pretty bulletproof for me with regards to that. I am able to mount the system partition as R/W and swap out the Play Store APK with the latest version and set all the permissions and everything and it works just fine. It's just not an ideal way of doing things. What would cause this? All other APKs install and update just fine. The paid app thing happens only because the Play Store is out of date. Every BETA I am subscribed to is also stuck on 'Removing you from the beta'.
from the little I've read the makers of these boxes don't intend to do any maintenance or updates on their boxes, next year they'll bring out android 11 boxes that'll stay as they are more or less.
I haven't messed around with the two update apps don't want to start again from scratch. I'm thinking maybe one of them covers the play store.

Update apps? Play Store is supposed to update its self but it can't. Can't update via APK, can't install from scratch via APK, 'App not installed', 'Update failed' etc. There is a serious issue with the FW here and it doesn't affect a single other of my Android 10 devices. If you mean Aptoide and APKPure, they just download and execute APK files. Same results.
was thinking about the Local Update and Wireless update apps in the app draw, they can't both for firmware.
I think this is safe to call a forked version of Android, it's pretty much locked down to the way the want it, maybe they never intended the store to be updated independently of the whole rom.

Oh I see. Wireless update is essentially System Update. I'm not sure about the other. Perhaps it's like the old Backup & Restore thing the old boxes had that you needed to boot in to TWRP. I've only ever re-flashed it via PhoenixSuit and PhoenixCard.
I recently purchased the Pendoo T95 all winner box. I can download Pluto Tv via play store but it will not open.
"Apk is not compatible with this version please download appropriate one from the Play store"
This app was downloaded from the Play Store.

try looking on APK mirror if it's a free app. maybe an older version will get you started. always compare file sizes with files from playstore just to be safe.
