is there a way to install LineageOS without using the custom recovery? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys, its my 1st post here so please don't take out on me if i made a mistake.
btw it take me a while to figure out the rules of this forum about having 10 helpful post before u can actually ask something from someone.
here is my question:
i have a htc one e8 (stock marshmallow 6 installed&Ulocked) and i start to hate its launcher and its themes i needed a new look on my device, so i found this lineageOS 9 on this forum, so i installed it and as far as i know, its working fine with some miner issue(music player&NFC).
but i don't like the red warning text on splash screen, which appear the moment i root the device or install the twrp on my phone(when i restore my original marshmallow, it disappears).
now i want to know if i can install the custom rom(lineageOS) on my phone without root or twrp??
and final thing is that i made a backup from my phone, (when i did install the lineageOS 16), can i restore it without the twrp?? cuz now i'm back at my original marshmallow 6...
thx in advance.

I don't know about your device specifically but my device has stock recovery using which I can flash custom ROMs. Check on yours

[Q] xperia u help

Hi all
I recently attempted the install of a couple of custom xperia u ROMs while failing. I am unable to access cwm and can't boot into fast boot mode as the computer won't recognize it. Have spent hours trying to. Firstly I need a good guide on how to get windows 7 to recognize it as well as a stock cwm flash able zip for the st25a Australian version of possible
Thanks
I had a similar problem recently with a HTC HD2, no recovery, so I had to do a hard reset terminal and start from the begining.
Sometimes the USB connection also fails with computer, records excesses device links. Download "USB Oblivion" check real clean and run (remove all those links).
I have a Xperia Arc S, I advise you to start download one stock rom with root possibility and I'll leave a works based recovery (CWM Auto-installer Xperia 4.apk). With this phone I had some problems with the new Xpart7, recovery and install roms.Best used this old to start.
Another option, if you have the bootloader unlocked, would flash a kernel with a version of CWM included and that works for the rom you are installing. Once there, you restore or install your desired rom that surely you have prepared.
Good luck, hope I've helped.
PD: I am Spanish, and I don´t write an advanced English, if any problems, quiet, I'll start posting in my language and you, if you are interested, you translate it
Saludos.
Thanks! Will try when I get home. Another question: do you need an unlocked boot loader to install custom ROMs and is there one that doesn't have to be installed over the stock firmware
Thanks

most custom roms can be installed on the stock kernel, so in that case you dont need unlocked bootloader, but if you use custom kernel you will need unlocked bootloader.

You are in the need to download the adb-drivers for your mobile and just install it along with the sdk then your computer will detect it as a fastboot device.

[Q] Few questions before I flash a ROM.

Hi guys, new to android, few questions before I flash a ROM.
-Will I need anything else other than the ROM file to flash it?
-If for what ever reason I flash the ROM and something goes wrong how can revert to stock? how do I do this? (I used TWRP when rooting)
-Can I back up the current stock ROM and all my settings/apps?
-I want something with 4.2.2 or higher that's stable, recommendations? (I'm using the AT&T Version).
Thanks!

Make the Nandroid backup of the ROM so incase something goes wrong u can revert back.....
It will restore ur phone to it Current state before u installed the Custom ROM...

Unfortunately there is no ROM higher than 4.2.2 android for AT&T version of HOX+
Thanks!
What's "android-sdk-windows setup" and where do I find it?
Ok is there a rule against making recommendations of stable roms? I want sense 5, AT&T.

You don't necessarily need this, but you definitely need something to flash the boot.img (contains kernel), otherwise your phone won't boot. Because our phones are S-ON we need to flash the boot.img separately via fastboot, since we are not allowed to flash it in recovery.
Alternatively, get you any toolkit from One X+ forum that works for AT&T too in order to flash the boot.img.
In case something goes wrong or you want to go back to stock, you will need the backup on your phone and at least the boot.emmc.win on your computer, you will also have to flash this boot.img backup in fastboot again to get your backup working.
To your question with the rom recommendation, I am using ViperX+ 2.0.2, it has Sense 5, a lot of tweaks, also a custom kernel included, and works stable so far. I haven't tested any other roms but u should definitely check that one out.
A last tip from me: If your phone stucks on the boot loop although u used the right boot.img, open your rom.zip and extract the boot.img from there, that is what took me hours to find out because the one provided by the developers did not work

Can't flash any rom

Hello, I have one big problem with my mate 10 lite
The problem is, when i flash twrp everything is okay, but when i try to flash any custom rom - I always have bootloop, on every custom :/
I tried to use eRecovery to install stock but it ends in the same way - bootloop
What can I do?
I really wanted to switch for custom...
Try using 338 stock rom and then install custom rom.

You can install other custom ROMs even if you are already on a custom ROM. The thing is all steps indicated
in custom ROM threads, ask you to wipe, and format so already they are cleaning necessary things, before actual
installation (flashing) step starts. But the cleaning is not like a proper clean i.e. done by stock recovery, so if you want
to install a new custom ROM, its better to first install Stock recovery, then wipe/format, then install TWRP, and proceed
with new Custom ROM installation.
If any thing does not work for you, then install ur stock ROM, and then install the new custom ROM ur interested in.

I reckon you must have missed some step, as I did tried most of the ROMs shared in this mate 10 lite
section of XDA forums. Specially the part after installation which says to flash Stock recovery n give it a wipe/format that makes the ROM installation proper, later you can install custom recovery.
For stock ROM, HuruUpdater works with TWRP, try one version of HuruUpdater, if it does not work change your
custom recovery to some other custom recovery (other TWRP, you will find many in this forum), and eventually
one of them will work for u. Still, it doesnt work, change the HuruUpdater version to an earlier version, and repeat
the process.

There is no best recovery that will work in every possible situation (e.g. Stock ROM flashing, Custom ROM flashing, backup/restore etc.). So for each custom ROM u better use the recovery that is indicated in that custom ROM thread.

IS there any custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy j4 SM-j400M?

Hello! I've been trying to install a custom ROM on my SM-J400M for a while now and none worked, recently i tried installing Magisk on it and now it is in a bootloop . Is there any custom ROM compatible with my device? Or it is impossible to install a custom ROM on it? At the moment it seems like it is not even rootable...
Also the version of TWRP that i installed on my device says that it is an SM-J400F instead of a SM-J400M which is the actuall name of the model. Is that a problem? If so please tell me how to unistall it, i wasnt able to find any way to uninstal TWRP on a soft-bricked phone.
Thanks in Advance!

Is There Any Custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy J4?
YES!
Although, this is not specific Custom ROM for this device. This ROM is GSI (Generic System Image), and J4 is greatly support it! (Because it has Android Oreo out-of-box)
How to install it?
Easy, install TWRP from TwrpBuilder's Github, flash GSI Image as usual, flash magisk (if bootloop, flash this might help), and done!
Please note that this is GSI, bugs are widely open. But, as far as I use J4, the only bug I feel are Camera and MTP (fixed by using custom kernel)
Edit: For your TWRP, which version you install?

Thanks for the reply!
I recently discovered that my Samsung J4 is carrier locked so i don't think it is possible to flash a custom ROM in it...
I really tried many things since this post but in the end it would always get stuck in a boot loop and i would have to flash the official firmware in it to restore it.
What TWRP version did i use?
I honestly don't remember but it probably was a unofficial TWRP 3.2.3 or something similar, not sure if it was unofficial or not but it seemed to work...
Also, how would i go around getting a custom kernel to use on the device that would fix those problems?
Again, thanks for replying!

I use TWRP 3.2, and flashed MY builded custom kernel (Only for GSI!) https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j/development/kernel-redline-kernel-samsung-galaxy-j4-t4188199/
You need to update to Android 10 Stock then flash the A64 A/B GSI. And remember to flash dm verity disabler then flash Magisk. Magisk is important too.
For more info about this, feel free to join our telegram group : https://t.me/SamsungGalaxyJ4
In there we have detail instruction to flash GSI for J4. And other issue discussion
I can't write the steps here, because the steps is little complicated. Cheers!
Thank you for your help!
Soon i will be giving it another attempt then !
Sorry for taking so long, even the site had a upgrade!
I actually am using Linux now but i am dualbooting with Windows to be able to use Odin. I have just now entered the Telegram group,

Amazing ! Thanks , That´s What I was looking for. I will follow those steps, I was stuck in the TWRP logo, it was like a loop and it didn´t continue with its options, I dunno why, but I m going to do it again by flashing with Twrp , .
Currently I´m using the latest Evolution rom but my cellphone is getting slow sometimes so Im gonna use another custom rom and test how it works .
Thanks again !
