Hey all,
I've never rooted a phone before so since I have a spare model, I figured I'd give it a go.
Hearing about this forum, I checked it out and was sent to the Sony site. I understand I needed to unlock the bootloader first, which I did and can confirm I get that alert as my phone starts about it not being safe.
Hint for future readers: don't do this in a virtual environment, I had issues doing this until I used an actual computer and not a VM (mods and folks with more experience: feel free to correct me on this or shed some light). To be clear, I have a separate host running Proxmox (Type I hypervisor) and was able to forward my USB connection to test with ADB and such. I do most things in a virtual environment to not mess up my physical computer.
This was all done last week. Well today, Monday, I decided to continue with my rooting excursion, only to run into the issue I am currently facing.
After many, many Google attempts and following whatever links in this, I finally found this link. Well, I was within a VM, downloaded the linked flashing tool, and ran the first two commands:
- adb devices
- adb reboot bootloader
After doing this, my phone turned off and I wasn't sure what to expect, so I pressed the Power button to see what would happen - nothing. So then I remembered that Friday I was having issues communicating with my mobile phone in the VM to unlock the bootloader in the first place, so I figured I'd try to move it to my physical computer....then I was stuck on a reboot cycle!
To be clear, my issue is that I am stuck on a boot loop. It prompts the error of the device being unsafe, waits 5 seconds, then displays the Sony splash screen. Rinse, wash, repeat; same thing.
I have a Sony Xperia XA1 (G3123) model.
Can anyone shed some light?
Am I screwed?
Please halp!
I dug around a bit more, found this link but the issue is that I cannot boot into anything, at least not that I'm aware of.

have you tried installing a custom recovery?

Hey @keifus.rahn for following up.
I did find that thread after continued poking, which I am still checking now. And I eventually made a post on there just now discussing my current dilemma.
I downloaded the Flashtool but didn't understand how it worked, nor do I still yet. I tried debugging it and the issue is that the "java -version" call doesn't work within the directory's own structure. I do have java installed on my test Linux VM though.
Past that, I tried with the latest boot.img as well as the recovery.img that I found. I think that the build numbers are off, or maybe I am just not understanding where I am lacking.
You can look at the bottom of the last page for a breakdown of what I did:

I've been trying to install smoke in a bottle, and when trying to revert back to the original ROM on my G tab, I had issues of it not showing up on my computer when connceted. Now, however, I've run NVFlash...And first it got stuck in an endless boot loop, the N symbol would show up then it would turn off, and restart the process.
I then went ahead and did an NVflash format, a-la http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974422
Then did a standard NVflash.
Now I get a 'magic number mismatch' with some odd garbled symbols with the occasional V, and refuses to boot at all except into APX mode. I can NVflash it into oblivion, but it still gives that error and has absolutely no indication it is on unless I use NVflash when it's in APX.
Furthermore, it seems to have no recovery mode at all, leaving me wondering if I've managed to just permanently brick this thing.
Wonderful.
If I've managed to overlook something simple, I apologize.

Start with code red.
You are now my personal e-hero. Thank you so much.
For some reason when I performed the "Code Red" it booted back to normal. Now when I restart it goes straight into APX mode. Any suggestions? Also, when I ran NVFLASH it didn't reformat. It is like I just turned it back on. It runs fine until I try and turn it off. Then it will only start in APX mode.
Don't give up!
Here is a link to the series of steps I used that brought my tablet back to properly functioning state (I too struggled for a while with only being able to boot with nvflash). I saw tonight where the steps worked for someone else as well.

accidentally posted twice....this one can be deleted.
The problem is I can't boot into recovery. I can only boot in to APX mode. It seems all the fixes are for you to be able to boot into recovery. I have been reading for hours and I am lost.
If you read and follow djab67's procedure carefully you'll see that it will force the tablet to boot into recovery. I use the same technique in my procedure (linked below and has the added benefit of not requiring ADB). I highly recommend you try his procedure as I've looked it over very carefully and it should take care of your problem. If it doesn't please let us know and we'll find you another solution.

Been there. Don't fret. I've done so many terrible things to my G Tablet and it hasn't died on me yet. I'm pretty sure with the hardware and this community, this tablet is unbrickable.
If you can get into APX mode and your PC will recognize it when you run the NVFlash script, you are ok. If it doesn't see it when you run the script, there is still hope.
I have tried djab67's fix I don't know how many times now. Every time I click on the .bat file it tells me the file is gone. I have tried downloading it from multiple different posts with the same let down on each of them. Could my problem be that my rom is the current 4349 set up?
cryorayne,
I am going to go out on a limb here because it sounds like you are running windows on your pc (based on you choosing to use the ".bat" file instead of the ".sh" file), so hopefully another current windows user can validate my response.
It may be best to run the bat file from within the windows command window rather than trying to double click launch with in explorer (file manager, not the browser). Once at the command prompt you also need to navigate the old fashioned DOS way to your working folder location.
It is extremely important to set up all the files in a location the bat file expects to find them. Open up the bat file for editing and check any file/folder paths that are defined. You may need to change them to point to your nvflash working area.
Another thing to check is to make sure your user account on windows has administrator permissions (not just "standard user"). A while back, when I used windows more heavily, I seem to recall some cases where I had to give myself "system" level permissions to do some types of things. However, I highly doubt you need that level to run a batch file with nvflash.
Hope this helps. The steps worked for me and I have seen where at least one other person has used them successfully, so they should also work for you. Getting all the tools and files in place and set up for your computer is a key to success.
Finally, if your various downloads came from sources other than those I referenced in the write-up, then I suggest re-downloading and checking the hash sums.
Hope this helps.
Re-posted restore guide with a little additional information
Just wanted to let everyone know that I re-posted the restore steps as a thread (as opposed to a "reply" where it sits today). I was hesitant to do that before I knew the steps had worked for at least one other person. Should be a little easier to find now. Also, I added a little clarifying content to help with understanding APX Mode and nvflash use.
I am hoping the community can help with responding to requests for help. I try to read questions and respond, but don't have the time to be as quick as I would like and I know from experience how frustrating it can be to have "soft bricked" g tab.
As I learn additional information I will add content to the thread from time to time. However, I do not plan on changing the original steps (except maybe for format reasons) since they are the exact ones that worked for me.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I have been searching around through dozens of threads over days and don't see much about people in a bootloop without ADB access. Is this an unsolvable problem or is there some way to reconnect to ADB so I can run a fix?
Just for background, I had a fully functioning towel rooted kindle 8.9 HDX which had the Google marketplace, OTC disabled, APEX launcher running, ADB connectivity with all the SDK stuff installed and safestrap. I must have done something wrong with safestrap because my backup didn't take, and when I tried to hide the nav bar I got stuck in a bootloop. I see the grey logo then a lighted black screen, but the kindle no longer connects.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588608 Look a whole thread devoted to your problem .. I would suggest reading the whole thread and understanding as much as possible before you start issuing commands . Good luck ,and by the way this would not have happened if you were using a slot on your safestrap. If you were in fact using a slot. Just hold the power down for over 25 seconds. Then safestrap should boot whatever you do do not do a factory reset in stock recovery

Maybe I am confused about something, I had already read through that thread a few times and it seems like that assumes you have ADB access or a way to gain it which I do not have. Issuing any of the commands listed in that guide just gets me the same response, Error: Device not found. I saw one guy asking my question and GSLEON said to download the update.bin, but I am not really sure what to do with it and they didn't elaborate. In addition, the advice he gives him about it says the computer should fail to recognize my device but still acknowledge something was plugged in but that doesn't happen with mine. He also suggested trying in linux so that is what I am working on doing now but I have never used Linux so I will see how that goes.
I may just not be understanding something, I'd be in your debt if you'd elaborate on something I am not understanding but in any case sorry if I asked a dumb question. I appreciate you responding, it's good to know what I need is in that thread, I guess I just wasn't able to figure it out yet. I will try harder
Hello
I need some advice and help if someone can.
My LG V10 was rooted and on latest Eliminators room. It was working perfectly and few days ago while ending the phone call it just switched off.
Since then i have been trying to bring it back to life but without any success .
I can boot it to fastboot but no commands are accepted in fastboot mode, no download mode . It only goes to logo and the information that software can not be checked , further from there it goes nowhere . Since i am mac user , i installed VM of Win 7 and only thing it detects is Qualcom 9008......
Please some advice and help what is possible to do.
In fastboot mode i can not do anything.......

This is the exact thing that happened to me last night too. I was wondering if my phone pushed the latest update on accident or something to cause it.
Another thread in the Q & A Section has reports of this happening and maybe being a hardware issue.
I plan on trying to do a full restore back to stock tonight when I get home from work to see if I can bring it back to life. I also read somewhere that you need to have the latest binary for fastboot to work.
The few minutes I messed around with it last night, my fastboot was sending but not writing. I'll keep you posted it I have any success tonight after work.
Side note the thread I mentioned above the S/N for the phones having issues started with 510...
Also, I can get mine to boot into recovery but once I try to erase or install it freezes and boot loops again.
I will play with it from tomorrow again. From yesterday i have gave it to one service center but they have not succeeded to do anything. I have succeeded in one moment to get to download mode which laster only about 2 seconds, not enough even to connect it to lg up, suspecting tht it is maybe something because of VM that doesn't' discover phone complerely. Tomorrow morning i shall pick it up and during next few days i shall try again, if i succeed to find a solution it would be good. I was also planing to do complete factory back up to stock last version. But...

I have the same problem with my v10 do you found a solution ?
No. I bought a new phone and my v10 is now a paperweight. I have not really tried too fix either. Jumped on project fi and got a got a 5x on the cheap. Couldn't be happier.
I've had luck flashing my LG from within a virtual machine, running on top of Linux Mint. I tried both VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. Just make sure to install the guest additions within VMware, or the extension pack within VirtualBox. Also download the LG driver and install that inside the VM too. Each VM software may have settings relating to sharing a real USB port with the VM, make sure you look into that and enable the relevant options. Otherwise the VM may not detect the device.
On the other hand, my v10 isn't hardbricked, I'm just going to hold onto it as long as possible until it goes belly-up. Which it will probably do sooner rather than later, if the issues I've had are any indication. If you're only seeing Qualcomm 9008, fastboot not responding to any commands, and no download mode, this def sounds like a hardbrick. If you're still under warranty I would recommend getting it replaced by LG. If you have insurance then cash it in.
This is the 3rd v10 I've had, so far I've done 2 exchanges if I remember correctly. These phones are definitely susceptible to big issues. Like the now famous LG bootloop scenario.
Hope you get this figured out!
Hello all!
First of all, I am no developer.
Long story short.. I purchased an HTC 10 because I was sick and tired of my at&t galaxy s5 being bootlocked. I received the 10 and set out the next day to root it. I followed a video on youtube (not saying that the info was not correct...I may have done something wrong...not trying to discredit anybody) to the letter and lo and behold I ended up in a bootloop. My heart probably came close to a complete blockage at this point. This bootloop lasted maybe a minute before it would reboot. So... In my infinite wisdom I chose to relock the bootloader. Oh Boy!!! Fun times were ahead for me!! As soon as I relocked said bootloader, the bootloop increased its timing to about 1 point 5 seconds. I remember waking up on the floor in the fetal position. Now I am stuck with a phone that adb will not recognize. It does however recognize the device at the fastboot devices prompt. So my question is this.... Is this a salvageable phone? If so, How would one go about fixing this problem?
*** Relocked ***
htc_pmew1 pvt S-ON
os-2.28.617.8
I would prefer that the money I spent on this thing would amount to something more than a small ant bed.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Also I have been doing a lot of digging around and (I may be wrong) but. I could not find this scenario in the forums here. I apologize if this has already been covered.
...So..after looking around for a bit more, I discovered out that there is a way to flash a ruu/zip from an sd card. I have tried multiple times with what I thought were the right ones. As I am unable to boot into recovery, I feel I am limited as to what I should do. I have read about that I should wipe dalvik but I am very limited in my knowledge on an android system and would prefer to not mess this phone up anymore than it already is. I was trying to root and I used TWRP as the recovery but I never made it to the end before it started the loop. The Phone is an htc 10 unlocked version. and it just constantly reboots about 3 seconds apart. ADB says no device connected, so I cannot execute commands that way... really at a loss here. all the tutorials I have read refer to using and and being able to boot into rrecovery. when i boot into recovery, I get an immediate reboot and the 3 second bootloop forever. Is there a way to use twrp to somehow resolve this?Is there a tool that will help me at least get into recovery mode?
SOLVED... Ran across Batchtool by sneakyghost. Quite the bunch of tools there! Ended up solving my problem by placing the stock RUU in the root folder as the batch tool. Before I could not install from a factory RUU (would not recognize the phone through ADB or install the RUU. After the install of the batch tool I was able to get a clean install back to my factory settings.. Now I am free to mess it up again!!
BIG THANKS TO SNEAKYGHOST!!!!!
I'm unsure why the batch tool has worked for you and the sdcard method didn't - getting fastboot to work and all the bits and pieces together (drivers, Windows VCRedist, correct fastboot, correct adb) is usually more error prone than just identifying the correct zip and placing that in your sdcard root.
At this time, I'm a bit in a "scratch my head" mood, thinking this is weird. Same zip? Really the same zip didn't work from sdcard but would work in fastboot? I think I haven't come across that myself yet (non booting phones are a daily thing, almost).
I wish I had the time to analyze your steps with you, so I could gain understanding as to why that happened, so I can use that in the future, but alas! I have no time for XDA and deep digging around in issues of other people. Lately I can't even solve my own phone's problems anymore due to too many other things going on.
Well, glad it worked for your phone, anyhow. I'll keep this in mind for the next one messing up his/her phone.
Hi hello
So here’s a head scratcher I hope someone can help me with that won’t involve replacing my main board.
Got myself the p20 lite (ANE-LX1 C432) - Single Sim.
I unlocked the bootloader with Huawei just before they stopped handing out the codes. All was good and happy with the world.
Rooted with Magisk and Was busy messing around With Termux, Linux deploy, Mobile Terminal and some pretty basic stuff. I’ve been out of the android scene for a while so was getting reacquainted with the scene.
Anyway. I was messing around in the terminal in a root shell just fixing basic permissions after messing up my termux environment as root. Phone randomly rebooted (I must’ve messed with the wrong folder -no idea which) came back on and my IMEI and baseband were gone.
No worries, I thought. Happened tonnes of times with my previous Devices (looking at you Samsung) just a quick restore or flash and all will be happy again.
Yeah, not quite.
Note that up until this point I hadn’t touched the system partition (probably besides the mobile terminal mishap -no idea)
So over the last week or so I have tried everything. Restore from Twrp backup. Flashed stock through fastboot, through erecovery. Those flashed ok but didn’t fix it.
Putting numerous different update.app FULL & OTA updates in dload folder on SD and internal all failed. Only used my builds version of course and only ones firmware finder deemed compatible/available
Then I got desperate (read: stupid) Decided to take the unpacked firmware files and flash whichever ones twrp would let me. First tried just the modem files. Didn’t help. Then just went through the list and flashed all I could.
I think the kicker came in when I installed the Trustfirmware.img because once I did that I rebooted and now I was stuck in an endless boot loop. No way to get into recovery. Not with their ton combo nor adb/fastboot.
I still had access to fastboot at this point at least and started doing every single thing suggested all over the net just trying to get back to stock.
Tried the unbrick option on The Huawei Multi-Tool. Flashed ok. Phone still wouldn’t boot. Did it a few times with 3 approved versions. Nothing. Only access to fastboot otherwise I was in a boot loop with error mode error no 15 and the verification failure (Attached below)
Last thing I tried after reading online was to relock my boot loader and flash stock. So I locked it with Huawei Multi-Tool. Reboot......
Now I don’t even have access to fastboot. My PC’s (windows and Linux) don’t even acknowledge it and holding volume down in all the weird and wonderful ways and times does nothing. All I get is startup Huawei Logo, Error Mode as per pic Below and then reboot. That’s it.
I’m assuming it’s trying to do a factory reset after relocking the bootloader (if it even locked properly, can’t check) but it can’t get into recovery/erecovery. I dunno ?
That’s my essay of where I’m at. Warranty is already void so not an option and I don’t want to buy a new mainboard (may as well buy a new phone).
So here I am. Is this my life now or does anyone have any magic tricks to possibly suggest?

Thanks for this.
The battery discharged fully about two days ago.
I haven’t tried plugging it in and out as/if it turns on immediately (though even though it shows dead without charger it still comes on immediately).
I’m gonna get a weaker lower amp charger and see if that maybe helps. Fml ?
***UPDATE***
Been at it for hours. Battery is completely flat. But h second I plug it in the the Black Huawei logo comes up ten a few seconds later it’s on the same error screen for a little longer then boot loops like that constantly.
The error isn’t the same as the post in that link though. And I am FRP unlocked.
Eh.

I guess your previous error was related to ramdisk...
Now what is your current situation?
-What error is showed in the Error mode?
-Can you reach FASTBOOT&RESCUE MODE menu?
-What is your current recovery?

As it stands I cannot enter fastboot or recovery mode. Update from SD also doesn’t do anything. Battery is completely discharged. And if I leave it on the charger it doesn’t charge, only boot loops.
So with all that the ONLY thing this phone does now is:
- Starts up Showing Huawei logo
- Error Mode Screen with Func No: 15 (bl31 image) & Error No: 1 (security verify failed)
- Reboots
Ths happens whether it’s plugged into the pc’s usb or the charger. Tried all combinations of buttons too.
It has stock recovery as I flashed that back when trying to revert back to stock.
I lost access to fastboot after I locked the bootlaoder again using the Huawei Multi Tool. It’s like it trying to do the factory wipe that it usually would after locking/unlocking the bootloader but is unable to due to the error mode screen.

Ah man, I wish it would even do that. It makes no attempt to even pretend to see the sd card update. If I hold all the buttons in it still only comes up with the error mode and reboots.
I popped it open and connected a charger up battery to see if that would help but it doesn’t.
Do you maybe know the pin layout on the inside or know where I could get schematics? Been looking everywhere.
I’m almost done building my own Jtag box and am hoping to bring it back to life by writing straight to the damn thing.

What I found recently and it was new for me (I didn't tested yet) is a possibility to install firmware via "dload" folder, but to start installation the stock recovery have to be full functional.
If I found something interesting for you I'll post here.

To my knowledge the recovery is installed. Well erecovery. It was working up until I locked the bootloader again and it went into a boot loop instead of doing the factory reset.
Is there any other way to force sd update other than with the dload folder?
Thanks for tying to help, I appreciate it.

Still unsolved as of yet.
I’ve finished building my own version of the Riff/Octoplus box as well as a makeshift Jtag. I’m still trying to find and piece together some firmware files and other board software I think I need.
Also, if anyone has any idea where the test point is on this board I’d really appreciate you pointing it out. I cannot find the schematics or any solid documentation anywhere.
I will attach the pics I have of both sides of the board as soon as I get home.

well, try to restore your device using dload method. It needs you to copy the UPDATE.APP in dload folder of an external sd card(formated in NTFS format) and then just press both vol up+down along with power button for a few seconds. It will auto launch huawei e-recovery and will try to flash the UPDATE.APP you stored in ext sd card. This should definitely work.
Dload method doesn't need you to unlock your device or bootloader.
Maybe?
I know it’s a long shot but I still have this phone. If anyone maybe knows if there’s been a way to fix this as of yet please let me know. ?
Lol. Still got this damn thing. Been searching around and seen a few people reporting similar errors. Never find out if they ever solve it though.
So. Anyone maybe have any knowledge to share? Anything at all.
I don't know if you still have your device, but I had the exact same issue with a P10 (VTR-L09)
I was able to fix fastboot using https://github.com/mashed-potatoes/PotatoNV
That tool was designed to unlock the bootloader, but I noticed that It actually flashes a slightly modified version of fastboot.
PotatoNV can also unlock P20 lite bootloader, so you should give it a shot.
Good luck!
If it works, you should be able to flash stock recovery image and then restore the system using the dload folder.
you can Repair it with Software Testpoint and Full Bootloader Unlock ,and then flash a Board Software via Software Testpoint, that helps 100%!!!
use this Firmware Download ANE-LX1
use the Software with logins and you have all what you need.
you must start the Software Testpoint so!!
VIDEO : how to start Software Testpoint P20 Lite
than in Software Testpoint you flash the included Board Software with DC-Phoenix and after that use the included dload update via sdcard and eRecovery mode and your Phone is running!!!
I would unlock the bootloader via Software Testpoint with DC-Phoenix, then the FBLock is unlocked and you can flash as you wish!!!! And the great thing about it is that you don't need an UnlockKey either, you can then read this with HCU client software, the only thing that's stupid is that you need a time-based license for the two programs, which you have to buy.
HCU client download
https://hcu-client.com
DC Phoenix download
https://forum.dc-unlocker.com/forum/modems-and-phones/huawei/155916-dc-phoenix
Since I accidentally bought a 3-day license twice and my P20 Lite is now completely rooted on Lineage 19.1, I can give away 2 access data, which are still valid for 2 days.
you can edit your smartphone with it.
