Hello
I have a 4G phone that has 2 sim slots
When purchasing new sims, they have options of data only sims. I'd like to use 1 or 2 data only sims in this phone, and be able to use it as a hotspot.
The problem being that whenever these sims are used in phones, the carrier can detect if its a phone or a hotspot and restrict the data.
How can make sure this phone will allow it to use a data only sim, I heard that aeroplane mode works potentially but other sources say no.
Also the phone has root access if that helps.

Is it possible to remove the verizon S4 phone (radios-I think that's what it's called) so the phone will only connect using a WiFi connection.
Basically I want to remove the Verizon connection so I can use the phone on WiFi only.
I'm going overseas and want to still use my phone for it's WiFi capabilities. Maybe use Skype or Hangouts for any calls.
Phone is rooted with stock settings.
Remove SIM card maybe? Turn off mobile data and leave Wi-Fi on? Much easier than trying to pull or erase the radios.

I believe Verizon uses RUIM (i.e. sim card) for the S4 for both CDMA and LTE, so I'd agree with the above that removing the SIM should be the easiest way to de-link from a Verizon account.
I agree- remove the SIM and you won't get any data. However, I'd also disable mobile data. And, removing the SIM will probably pop up a warning that there's no SIM.
To stop network data, open Settings, More networks, Mobile networks. Remove the checkbox from "Mobile data" and you won't use any mobile data.
Airplane mode is a simple way also.

Hi Guys, I was using an ICS dual sim phone until I broke, it, the way I had it setup was
1) SIM 1 - 3g enabled
2) SIM 2 - 2g only + data connection enabled
That meant I had 2g data access and 3g carrier service.
Now here is the thing, my carrier on SIM 1 is 3g/4g only! They do not have a 2g network at all, so in order to make calls and text 3g has to be enabled for that SIM. as for the data I only need it for AGPS stuff, so only minimal bandwidth is required, I have no data allowance on SIM 1 and SIM 2 is provided by my employer so the data is free.
Now That all worked sweet. until I got this new phone, Nubia Z7 Mini.
Problem is, if I enable data on SIM 2, then I lose signal on SIM 1. There does not seem to be away to enable 2g only data on SIM 2 under android kitkat. (or it may be a hardware limitation?) It seems to only allow me to swing 3g service between SIM 1 or 2. and only allow mobile data on the SIm with 3g
any ideas how I can get around this?
Hmm I think it may be a hard limitation.
i did this:
Sim card 2: selected only GSM network mode
Sim card 1: only WCDMA network mode
then enabled data on sim card 2, went back and checked and it had changed SIM card 1 back to GSM only and sim card 2 to 3g.
Hello,
I've got a fake Xiaomi Redmi Note which has in fact a MTK6572 SOC on Android 4.2.2.
The problem is with one of the SIMs I use: in slot no.1 (WCDMA; unfortunately slot no.2 is GSM only) one of the SIMs behaves odd - when I put the SIMs in, the battery and start the phone - 3G internet works, but if I turn mobile data off and then want to start it again it's not coming back.
However, if I change the SIMs between themselves - the other SIM works fine when toggling mobile data ON/OFF.
The only solution to make mobile data available from that certain SIM is to factory reset the phone or swap twice the SIMs!
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
I have an S22+ and I have 2 sim cards (esim from Freedom Canada) and a physical sim with Mint mobile.
Also I have wifi calling enabled on both cards.
Is there a way to make data available from the physical sim to the esim as data so Freedom Mobile can registered as wifi calling
using Data from Mint. Like that I can completely disable roaming from my Freedom account
I have not seen any settings for something like that in the sim manager and I was wondering if there any any adb command
I am not aware of such possibility, sorry.
Hi. I need some help when using the S918B/DS with a combination of a standard sim (voice/text/data) and an e-sim (data only). The e-sim is intended for use in the US while traveling, bought using an e-sim app. I've setup the phone to use physical sim 1 for calls and sms and the e-sim for data. An APN is provided for the e-sim which must also be used. Roaming is also enabled.
Initially the setup works out with both sim/e-sim appearing in roaming mode and the e-sim also with 4G icon using T-Mobile. However, when I turn mobile data usage off (to save data and battery) then later re-engage data then I am not able to gain access to data. The icons show (both) of the carriers in roaming mode and that's it. The only way to reengage data seems to be: go to manual network selection for the e-sim, disconnect from current carrier (T-Mobile), select a different carrier such as Verizon (where there is no access granted) and then re-connect back with T-Mobile. This must be done with data enabled, otherwise I still don't get any data access. This works but also means that I need to have data/4G on all the time and can not use it only when needed. Is there's anything I'm doing wrong or there are some settings which can be tweaked to bring back data without disconnecting/reconnecting for the esim ?

If you want to save battery while travelling, instead of disabling data, you might want to set your physical sim to 3G/2G mode only (since it only for a call). And just turn of slot 2 (eSIM) when not used. Or try to disable VoLTE on the eSIM.
Or just airplane it altogether if you doesnt really intend to receive a call anyway. (I normally do it during travelling, i only use my phone to snap picture in certain area, using wifi when in resto, cafe or shopping area, and then turning off airplane only when i need to navigate using map)
