Update the stock rom , help needed - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hello ,
I need to receive the 10.3.8 Miui stable update ( yes still on 10.3.6 ) ,
I have TWRP and rooted using Magisk …
So Can I just download the full Rom ( 1.8 GB ) , then install it using TWRP recovery ?
I mean is it as simple as that ? or I have to flash or do anything else like lazyflasher in order nor to bootloop or brick my phone ?

You can download the entire ROM which is based on MIUI 11. Reboot to recovery, clean everything for smooth operation. Flash the new MIUI ROM and do not reboot to the system or you might lose TWRP recovery. Go back and flash TWRP recovery image again and then reboot to recovery once. Then reboot to system.

MIUI 10
Global
or
EU
MIUI 11 update
Global
or
EU Beta
Dirty flash if you stay on MIUI 10 (Format Dalvick/cache/System)
Clean Flash if you go on MIUI 11 (Format Dalvick/Cache/System/Data) (I prefer format internal storage to start with new OS)
I didnt loose TWRP with full wipe

Thank you VeerAmrit for your reply .... I don't mind losing TWRP as I can Flash it again .
All what I am afraid of is that I read in another thread ( and other blog that I need to flash something called Lazy Flasher If I want to go with this method , otherwise I would go into boot loop ...
This part was written
(Now again go back, select Install and select the LazyFlasher .zip file. And the Swipe to confirm flash.
This step is very important, if you don’t do this, your device will be stuck in bootloop. The LazyFlasher .zip file skips the Android security check and allows the phone to boot, if you don’t do this, your phone won’t boot as it won’t be able to pass the security check.)
So I decided to ask before doing anything because this Lazy Flasher is not working anymore as per what I know .

Thank you So much Mastakony for your help and links , I really appreciate .
As per Miui 11 I prefer to wait for the stable final version , as this version is called Stable Beta .
So I decided to go to 10.3.8 first , then to 11 when it is available final version .
( BTW can I go to 11 directly without 10.3.8 at all ? )
Also Mastakony please read my above reply to VeerAmrit and help my with this issue please .
Thank you in advance

For your satisfaction, you can flash 10.3.8 first and then flash miui 11. You can directly flash it as well which I did. No need to flash any lazy flasher or anything just directly flash the ROM from TWRP. That post is from 2017 and not for Poco.

Vendors

Hello, I am newbie yet so I am asking if anyone can explain the vendor's use, and what do I get from installing them.
Thank you for your time
Now almost roms here includes custom vendor. So you need firmware only.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/vendor/beryllium/
And here's custom rom installation process
Flash rom
Flash firmware
Gapps(optional)
Dfe(if you don't want it to be encrypted)
Magisk(optional)
That's it. No need to know more.

Miui decided to use MODIFIED VENDOR IMAGE hence POCO F1 gets a modified vendor image for Android Pie-based Project Treble GSIs
what was the impact?
custom roms couldn't be flashed (booted) if you don't flash the modified vendor image from twrp
even today when most of the roms have their own vendor you still need to flash the vendor+firmware (atleast)
Developer Akhil Narang started collecting all releases at
https://mirror.akhilnarang.me/MIUI/beryllium/
currently I am using 9.6.27-9.0 which is working best for me, 10.3.6 image made my batter drainage high (atleast i noticed)
I am on HAVOC2.8 and this is how i did it
1. flashed TWRP 3.3.1 unofficial (download it from HERE ) ref Reference - as official twrp has TOUCH driver issues. this one worked with me very well
2. I wiped /data, /system then
3. flashed VENDOR.zip from HERE
4. FLASHED CUSTOM ROM (i use HAVOC2.8)
5. FLASHED DFE HERE - REFERENCE
6. FLASHED GOOGLE APPS ( GAPPS.ORG) ( ARM64>9.0MicroPackage)
7. Flash Kernel ( OPTIONAL- havoc uses shadow kernel , i feel optimus drunk kernel is better, battery and 4g connectivity) even Franco Kernel is very good
8. FLASHING MAGISK19.3
9. when i was on havoc2.7, by using MIGRATE, it made flashable zip of my APPS+DATA, stored in internalStorage, and now I will FLASH that file., Mine size goes to 2gb you can get it from HERE
10. WIPE CACHE/DELVIK
11. REBOOT
fire reboot may go in to bootloop and then second reboot may take a while and finally you should see Pixel Setup asking google accounts and info etc
-----------------------
extraa
once after you finish setup! don't RESTORE APPS from PLAYSTORE, (download only license apk, in my case I have purchases many apps from playstore and saperate license info is always appear in intial setup! SELECT THOSE ONLY)
ONCE playstore is DONE downloading all your selected (fewer) apps, and MAGISK ROOT is working...... put device on AIRPLANE MODE
FROM DROP DOWN Notification panel, CLICK MIGRATE, and it will prompt you what do you wana restore from your previouce ROM to newly flashed HAVOC ..APPS+SETTINGS+PERMISSION+DATA etc - migrate restoration may take upto 30 mins,
once done, uninstall from system and reboot device!
REMEMBER I DONOT RECOMEND MIGRATE TRICK FOR WHATSAPP, it doesn't work properly and NOTIFICATION ISSUES with BLANK DP observed by me whenever I forcely re-instated whatsapp by migrate!

Flashing custom roms will not wipe anything, so the vendor is still there. And firmwares too.

Could you also add steps to move from MIUI to Custom? (Both encrypted) and vice versa.
im on the previous weekly build of xiaomi.eu rom and i haven't flashed fcrypt disabler, Now how should i update my rom to the latest weekly build? can i use the built-in updater app or should i follow some other procedure? also is it fine to stay encrypted?

Hi.
Do it like this, install TWRP and then the operating system of your choice. There is also the question of how you could install the ROM without TWRP.
Hardbrick with TWRP, never, I don't think so.
I have now easily shot my device 20 times and put it on again and again, definitely shot 100 devices over 10,000 times over the years and never suffered a hard brick.
You can do it, otherwise the heroes will help you here. :highfive:

Hi,
this happens because your system partition is "broken".
If you go to "Wipe" and select "Format Data" there it will delete all partitions and the system of your device.
Then you start again in the TWRP and connect the device via USB to a PC or via OTG to a stick on which you have the operating system of your choice and drag it to your device.
Then select the ZIP / OS in the TWRP under "Install" and have it installed. It also creates the new partitions that he could not find with you.
I wish you success:fingers-crossed:

Don't think format data wipes the system partition does it?
Unless Xiaomi have really changed things, data should be completely separate. Format data should wipe the internal storage only which includes cache partition.
Twrp can wipe system, but shouldn't do unless specifically chosen to do so via several steps, not a single button press.

no data format dont touch system
Yes, of course not the whole system partition, sorry.
From German into English is sometimes not that easy.?
In this case, TWRP will of course only delete the data as it stands there.
Otherwise everyone will find a step by step guide for almost every device a thousand times, thanks to you. So it should be also possible for everyone here.
Best regards and thank you two.:highfive:

I also want to go back to stable ROM
Its very simple to bypass the Anti rollback on miflash, just download the fastboot version of the ROM you want to install, unzip it and you'll have to edit this file (flash_all.bat), with for instance note++. And you remove 5 or 6 lines that does not begin by FASTBOOT. You can't miss it.
You can close and save.
Afterwards, just flash that same file that you just edited, and no more anti rollback error!
A second tip that I have when you just can't install custom firmwares on the mi 10, just flash stock firmware with miflash, reboot and flash TWRP. Transfer your custom firmware to your phone, flash it and ONLY format data afterwards! It was the only way to get a custom firmware on my mi10. It's my 5th xiaomi device and never experienced something like this...tried all TWRP available for the mi 10, but only by doing this way, I was able to succesfully install xiaomi.eu.
Good luck!

yes, had a soft brick. phone was only booting in to fastboot. so used the "XiaoMiTool v2" and recovered the phone with MIUI 12.0.3.0 and then downloded the ota update 12.0.5.0 and then updated to it via manual update. now not thinking of doing it again for a while , don't want to get the device bricked again.

3) fastboot reboot
4) held volume+ n Power
5) TWRP came
6) advance wipe - dalvik cache/system/data/cache
7) back to main menue
8) install - select storage - OTG
9) taped on the zip, slide to flash..
Everything went well successful.
10) reboot system -- came to fastboot, repeated the same step still fastboot
Please correct me if I've done anything wrong, this is the usual step I did to flash V12.xxx earlier.
Used XiaoMiTool V2 and recovered to 12.0.3.0.. and OTA update to 12.0.5.0..

I think unlike previous iterations, we don't wipe system partition with these Roms as long as the vendor is same. (Means, If within MIUI Roms, no need. likewise with others such as AOSP)

If your boot-loader is unlocked and have twrp, just FORMAT DATA, cache & Dalvik and flash the A11 Weekly Rom. Clean installation means formatting DATA partition and setting up as new.
I'm on weekly 20.09.17 and will be flashing the latest A11 weekly end of the day after work.
Edit: When you format DATA, your internal storage too would be wiped. So Make sure you have a PC (To mount twrp and copy the file) or OTG to push the Rom file to internal storage after formatting data.

[GUIDE] Downgrade from MIUI Android 11 Beta Stable to Android 10 Stable using flashable firmware

This might help you after realizing that you want to install custom ROM again after upgrading to android 11 MIUI but you cannot install android 10 or 11 based ROM and stuck with either boot loop or android rescue party.
WARNING: This might wipe every writable partition. Charge your phone at least 20% or more to prevent from destroying these partitions.
Instructions:
1. Download firmware from here
2. Download full ROM (either recovery or fastboot) from here
3. Save the firmware zip file it in either internal storage or sdcard. Reboot to TWRP afterwards
4. Tap install and find the zip file in your storage and install. Wait for a couple of seconds to get done.
To install full ROM
Recovery
1. After installing firmware from recovery mode, don't reboot. If you reboot the system it will fail to boot. Boot to fastboot if you fail this step and flash a recovery image. Proceed with next step.
2. Install full ROM flashable zip from sdcard or internal storage.
3. Format /data. Reboot.
Using fastboot
1. Boot from fastboot mode
2. Extract full ROM fastboot zip file.
3. Open miflash and locate the fastboot folder.
4. Choose flash_all. Click start.
5. The phone reboots itself. Boot to recovery mode and wipe data.
All done. The phone is now downgraded from android 11 back to android 10.
Note: I got 2 anti triggered when attempting to downgrade the phone using recovery and fastboot without installing firmware zip file first. RIP me I guess I voided my warranty anyways so doesnt matter as I already applied some insurance for my device.
TL;DR: Installed Recovery will get erased as I mentioned in WARNING. Please don't skip every step.
Edit: since it made confusion, I split steps for recovery and fastboot mode.
Has anyone tried this procedure?
Im on 12.0.6.0(EU). Bootloader locked (wait 3days) so no TWRP. Want downgrade to 12.0.8.0(EU) and flash Pixelexperience ROM.
It will work?
I'm a bit confusing... Links inserted in first 2 points seem to be the same link. So what I've to download exactly?
I'm on 12.0.7.0 Android 10 but I'm curious to try 12.0.6.0 Android 11 stable beta released some days ago...

Its not the same. First one is cca. 80MB of size while full rom is 2.4GB for recovery and 4.4GB for fastboot.
I did this method yesterday and its working. No problems whatsoever.
The only thing i would add is you need both versions of rom - recovery and fastboot. Recovery when you flash for the first time in recovery and fastboot when you flash with Mi flash.
And my advice is, android 11 miui is really bad. Its not finished, it stutters a lot, u can't use third party launchers with gesture navigation (at least in my case, Nova lanucher), performance is bad.
Not worth any time.

did you try to flash firmware file from twrp recovery first? also that error means that a checkpoint failed which you need to disable or remove in configuration settings.

i only tried recovery method and it works fine after days of trying. 12.0.6 android 11 is still buggy and miui needs to fix it a lot. most of apps are not well optimized for this flavor.
Today unlocked bootloader. Flashing 12.0.8.0 (i have 12.0.6.0 A11).
Everything work perfect. No bootloop, bootloader relock and works fine
People are probaly skipping some steps.
1. Download Firmware small size files
2. Download full Firmware, both - fastboot and recovery (put it on SD card, small and recovery)
3. Install Twrp or Orangefox recovery (download it from somewhere)
4. Enter into recovery and install small firmware FIRST, dont reboot, install big firmware (recovery version) SECOND
5. do not reboot
6. format data
7. Now reboot into fastboot
8. Extract fastboot firmware zip into new folder on desktop
9. Start Mi flash, select that folder where u extracted files and tick "clean only" on the bottom of the Mi flash if u want to leave bootloader unlocked and from drop down menu near that pick "flash_all.bat".
Thats how i did it.

i did the same, but looking to partitions of system, product and vendor, i understand that flashing the files via recovery and fastboot they dont write in that partitions.
looks like the partitions are read only. thanks
I try to flash a custom rom like arrows os via recovery , the rom shows the boot logo of arrows rom, and then bootloop.

Did you flash it from the built-in recovery or with MiFlash? (My 167 hour waiting period ends tomorrow)
