I've been trying to root my HTC Hero for the past 2 days and since I'm COMPLETELY new to all of this, I found no easy method.
After a lot of research, I realized I need to patch my recovery screen so I can load new ROMs (correct me if I'm wrong). I've tried many methods, one where I install Flashrec onto my phone, but that didn't work. I also tried this method I found on android.modaco.com. I can't link outside of this site since I'm new, so I can't show you the method. I can tell you the problems I encountered when trying the two procedures and maybe you can tell me what to do from there.
I also tried the Goldcard method. I think it worked out and my memory card is good to go, but I don't know where to go from there. (Also, how can I test out my memory card to check if it really has the Goldcard?)
Please don't bash me for not knowing anything on this stuff. I'd love to learn about it, but I just don't know where to start.
Help would be very appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I searched throughout the entire site and tried to find the most appropriate section for me to put this thread and thought this was the place.

5 reasons not to root your Android
Hello Moekz, I am more or less in your situation, may I ask you a question? are you usually developing? if yes.. you probably will need a root, if not then probably it's better to keep the device as it is. There are few problems with rooting the phone and if the reason is to update to the 2.1...forget it now! At the moment there is not the perfect ROM on Web, we need to wait until HTC comes out with the official ROM. If you decide to root the phone you have to be sure the bluetooth, wifi are ok and the battery life is good...then is tricky and maybe dangerous for your phone if you don't follow step by step and perfectly the tutorial of Unlocker.com and xda suggestion. Anyway there is a video even on youtube: How to root your Hero with one click..watch it and then decide. I would wait 3-4 weeks. Good luck!

Well, that's just it. I don't want to wait 3-4 weeks for the update. It's been a while since HTC released Android 2.1, and we still don't have it for the Hero.
Hey guys,
So i've been searching a lot but cant seem to find any answers.
I Want to root my GT-i9300 XXEMA2. I looked up tutorials and followed. But Odin does not work anynore? It keeps crashing. Did some reading on that too and apparently everyone has the same issue. So the question remains, how the hell do I root my s3 without using Odin? I sae some method about the Verizon versions but i'm here in Pakistan so yeah...
Secondly, I have been trying like hell to get Nova 3 on this damn phone ever since I updated to 4.1.2. BIG MISTAKE. someone told me to flash my device and it'll go back to ICS. But apparently that doesnt work either. On ICS it was pretty simple, just download the apk file and let the phonw download the sd data. But on JB it doesnt work. Read on that too. And people said I need to download the SD data aswell and throw it in the OB folder. That didnt work either. I finally said screw it. So i decided to buy it. Since I dont have a credit card i asked to use someone elses. And then i could remove it later. But then Google wallet doesnt work here either? So I bought a gift card and that doesnt work either. FML.
No matter what I want to do, my device needs a root. And I cant figure out how to do that without odin.
ANY help appreciated.
Thanks
there are dozens of guides on rooting, please read them. I've never heard of Odin crashing so no, not everyone has this issue. There are methods like the toolkit that don't require Odin, you just have to search and read.
And don't discuss piracy here
Prolly been asked numerous times but cant seem to find anything on it. I spent about 5 hours today just rooting my phone because instructions are never clear and i had to do trial and error before i finally got it, so i am by no means an expert!
I have a verizon lg g2 and am wanting to put the malladus 1.2.2 rom on it but have absolutely no clue how!
Directions say flash rom, but i have no clue what that even means. I have done this back in the day 3 times to my original galaxy s and got it but the directions were clear.
do i have to get e recovery program? i read something about that and also a clockworkmod or something?
So if someone could or would have the patience to explain to me step by step what needs done, i would GREATLY appreciate it. Like i said, all i have done is rooted it and i downloaded the malladus 1.2.2, the lg apps, and the gapps that it said i needed but dont know where to go from there.

well thanks to all your help or lack there of, i now have a bricked phone because no one wants to tell me anything or help. Thanks
Not everyone here has a Verizon LG G2, You should have come to the IRC and directed your questions there first and been more patient if you're unfamiliar with these sort of things. Your bricked phone is no ones fault but your own, sorry.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
You're welcome. You asked for help, chose not to wait so you went ahead and did it - and failed. Yes, that's our fault. You shouldn't do things you have NO clue about. The first thing you should do is to READ. If you can't find the things you need, then SEARCH. There are over 5 million registred users here, so your questions have most likely been asked several times before, i.e they are here and you can search for them.

Dude, this is not a user support forum and no one is sitting around waiting for someone like yourself to ask questions that can only be answered by doing research that you should be doing yourself. You and only you are responsible if you bricked your device.
If you want help, your chances are higher if you post in your device specific forum, provide enough detail for people to know exactly what you did so they can provide accurate advice, and then be patient and wait for as long as it takes. Or you could do your own research and figure it out.
Funny, i didnt brick my phone, just was curious as to how many people would decide to talk if it meant they could get rude with me lol
And i posted where i thought i was supposed to, i couldnt find my phones forum. Sorry, and i DID read, i have been reading non stop, the advice just isnt working.
I tried flashify after reading that it worked (on here) and it said it did but after reboot i just get a dead droid and have to hold down vulume key and power to get it back on and recovery or download startup dont work now!
I am not impatient and i understsand im not the center of everything, just figured someone could chime in with some advice, but i guess its only worth typing if you have something unhelpful to say!
so i had this thought. we talk alot in the "rom's" thread about the progression of the custom recovery.
although my phone is on servide and i cant do much ar this point but i hope i get it back in a couple of weeks.
but my thought was this.. everyone here should post all files they can to make this work.
what they have tried and what did not work so people dont have to try it again.
whos working hard on this and what theire progression is, or if anyone can post files that could work and perhaps some tutorials for it.
i think that would be better then to update this OP and write everything down that have been tried and so on.
it was just a thought to make this work out its best way. ive been sending PM's to som developers and asked if they could give me some tutorials on this but non has answeres yet. ive been trying alot of different adb reboot commands, nothing work. i also was that stupid and tried autorec for lg g2 and that bricked my phone HARD so dont ever try that.
Loki is the key for this phone, I don't think that anything else works.

Hi everyone! First of all, I am very, very sorry for posting this in the wrong topic (I have no idea how to find the root one), but I am in desperate need of your help. I got two trojans on my phone. The ones that cannot be deleted (Ghost Push Trojan), and I downloaded the Cheetah Mobile Trojan killer, but it requires me to root my device. So here is my question, what is the right way to root an LG Optimus L5 E460 ii? I read somewhere about a chinese program vRoot, but heard that it turned to iRoot and doesn't do anything anymore but mess up your phone. Please help, I just gotta get rid of these viruses!

Nope. My model runs on 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, so I guess this method won't work. I succeeded in rooting with KingRoot, but it isn't enough to remove the malware, so I gotta do a full root... On the other hand, I found the malicious apps and froze them, so they're harmless now, but I don't really feel safe with them in my phone at all. Be careful if you see apps like FirewallService, TimeService and SecurityService.
Lol yeah I have never tried anything of the sort, I only download and install apk I use from either Google play store or through blackmark, very rarely do I download or install anything from any other source.
If ya don't mind me asking what do you mean by do "full root"? Wasn't aware there there was a different variety. My apologies to my ignorance in the subject...
I most probably expressed myself bad, since this is my first root attempt and don't know much about it, but as I understood, you can root to get only access to system apps, or root it in a way so you can flash a custom ROM or something like that (thus calling it full root)... Anyway, managed to get rid of the viruses completely!
