Is there way to disable Spen button - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

This is absolutely annoying and hoping if there is a way to disable the double click function on Spen. Find when I writing notes my fat hands sometimes click the button on the Spen bring up the shortcut screen menu. Is it possible to disable this?
(edit: typo)

Any luck with this? I really like the tablet but I'm getting REALLY frustrated using the S-PEN because while I'm writing I inadvertently click the button and then a full page menu shows. Really wish I could disable this.

probably not the solution you're looking for, but I got around this by buying a different kind of spen that didn't have a button

I think to disable the button requires some rom or kernel level tweaks, so would need a DEV

Gestures for multitasking?

I dont know if this is possible within the framework of Honeycomb, but I was wondering if I was possible to add gesture control using a root-access app?
Personally, I'm only looking for one feature: WebOS style task switching. I love the way Honeycomb multitasks, but I wish I could just swipe up from the bottom of the screen (starting on the bezel below the screen) and have it open up Honeycomb's app switcher. For reference, WaveLauncher implements similar WebOS-lite utility with a similarly implemented gesture implementation.
And just for the hell of it, I think it would be great if there could be an option to open the task switcher horizontally across the middle of the screen. I know I know, "Go buy a touchpad!" I'm just saying I think it would be awesome, and I'm certain others would think so too.

there's this app call dock4droid. you can find it in the market. some member post about this app some time ago here. I am using that app now. it works great.you can choose to put it on left/right top or down, anywhere you like. it will show recent app, and you can customize what app to appear on that dock.
sorry for my poor explanation. download it and have a try, it should fits what you want. I think. There's a free version of it.
p/s : i never touch the multitask button ever since i used this app it's kinda lag for me
I am I afraid there is no good solution, and each app that overlay your screen like this one will make your tablet lag :-(
Normaly I switch betwen 2 apps, it would be nice being able to one click switch between them

I agree. Just a "Quickswitch" button that switched between the last 2 used apps would be awesome.

I was thinking more along the lines of an individual button next to the task switcher. It's surprising how much quicker & intuitive things feel when there is only one action needed to be performed (one swipe, one button press, etc.).
Anyway, I'm just sorta spitballin' in this thread. I've been using an Android phone for over a year now, and my tablet for a few months, and I still haven't been able to get over missing WebOS style multitasking. That's not to say I'm dogging on Android's, it works well, it's just not the absolute best.

The home button
This is a great idea, but may only be possible on rooted phones with custom ROMs. I am going to look into an implementation that does not toll performance or battery. Perhaps a simple widget at the bottom of the home screen? Then again that would require going home first, making the widget redundant.

So exactly like the blackberry Playbook... that's exactly what it does ... swipe from bezel to open multitasking
The only thing I miss from IOS is ACTIVATOR.
So many options.
You could hook any action/gesture to any app.
It was awesome.
Sometimes is cumbersome to hit the home button located at the bottom when I'm holding the tab with both hands on the sides.
Would pay money for an activator equivalent.

Yes, and just like the TouchPad/WebOS.
A swipe gesture from the bezel is inherently easier than almost any other single input option because when holding the tablet there is at least one digit within an extreme proximity to the bezel & screen. I would say over 90% of my usage patterns are with me holding the tablet in at least one hand, and a large majority of me holding it with both hands. In my case, gestures like that are accessible from any direction and any side of the screen, and would be superior than having to click a 20x20 pixel button in a single location that isn't near either of the places where my hand naturally holds the tablet.
Again, for other people their usage patterns may dictate a better option. I just happen to think most people use their tablets in a manner similar to mine, which would make these gestures extremely useful.

Left handed users of GN2

Are you finding the "back" button to be annoyingly out of reach?
Is there a way to switch the menu button and back buttons?
Also another quick question about the keyboard "one handed" function. Is there a way to make it full screen again without going into the settings? that seems very anti intuitive #justsayin
Yes it socks having the back button so far away but eventually I'll get on screen buttons and disable the capacitive ones. I've been using swype which is working quite well for one hand use

i am a lefty but have long enough thumbs that it is within reach. as far as going back to full keyboard, the only way i have found is to long press the key next to the space bar and it will bring up keyboard setting and then just tic the box for full screen

If you "pinch out" or "reverse pinch" horizontaly on the keyboard it goes from one handed to two handed. Sometimes! It's difficult to get it to work. "ReƄerse pinch" just above the space bar and wait a second to see if it worked before trying again.
When it gets officially unlocked us southpaws wont have to worry, I believe it wont be any problem for a real good dev (we got several) to swap the back and menu button, what samsung ought to do is make it swappable for us lefties.
We will get fixed up soon, be sure to tune in to xda tv tomorrow for Adam Outlers note2 bootloader fix.
I also wish the spen was on the left side. There's needs to be a left handed specific device that caters to all of our needs!

I woud say yes, considering it's the same specs powering the Galaxy Note 10.1 (at least, i'm betting on this )
I'm actually sort of surprised someone hasn't tried flashing one of the Galaxy Note 10.1 roms on the Note 8 (I'm not recommending this, i'm not a developer. Just surprised no one (big kahuna's) tried this).
I can't wait until someone figures out how to make this a quick option on the drop down menu so we can toggle the keys on and off based on what we're doing

Just to be clear - this is only suppose to disable the capacitive function of the hardware buttons, not enable the virtual on-screen buttons or anything (the latter was what I was hoping for)? Don't mean to diminish the value of the first mod to appear on this forum - I just don't quite understand the use case for this. Thanks!

I use my tablet in landscape a lot! I found it was hard to hold the tablet with both hands because I kept hitting the Capacitive keys. this is my way of solving that! I thought I would Share it.

I hope it didn't sound like I was criticizing the patch. I was genuinely interested in how people were using this - we all have our own ways of doing things. For example, the hardware buttons have turned out to be more convenient than I expected for me because I use the tablet in bed a lot, and I find it's easier to touch the buttons if I hold the tablet upside down, so the buttons are at the top. With virtual buttons, they'd just move themselves back to the bottom!
Thanks, working good with LMT launcher.

Similar specs, but different. If you tried flashing a ROM you'd softbrick your device. There are a number of devs working on ports and I'm sure we will be seeing customs appearing soon in the future.

Hello all,
after disabling capacitive keys, install GMD gesture control to get the same through customized swipes.
Now SNote will work without being annoyed by keys at the end of the page
Hi all,
I kinda like the HW buttons and I wished they were real buttons rather than capacitive.
Is there a way to disable them ONLY in certain apps? I would like them to be disabled when I use S notes only.
Also,
the mod mentions "Your capacitive buttons will not respond to your fingers, but retain functionality with the s-pen."
So I can actually still use the buttons using the Spen?
Thanks!
For those who tried this, I wonder what app do you use to simulate the "back" and "menu" button WITHOUT using the Stylus?
I'd love to disable the capacitive keys, but there are times when I need to bring up the menu or go back WITHOUT taking out the Stylus and drawing the gesture.

Good day. Could you explain "get the same through customized swipes?"
Do you mean it's possible to toggle the editing or renaming of the "sec_touchscreen.kl" file?
Even if you do this, will you need to restart every time?

Quick tip for rom users

If you cant stand that knock off is gone on your custom rom that you have happily flashed on your g2... ive noticed alot of people asking so here is a few solutions if you already dont have one! Got a better way? Suggest it! Will edit if necessary.
1. If you dont use google now from your home button swiping up... download the app in the link below!
{FOR CYANOGENMOD USERS} Your rom already comes with a toggle for this... accessible from SETTINGS>>INTERFACE>>QUICK LAUNCH SHORTCUTS... obviously slide up and set it as "Screen off" towards the bottom of the list.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en <<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have that downloaded you can now swipe up like you would normally access google now... it will now give you the option to set a default for the screen off application, do it and now you can swipe up from anywhere on your device (Even the lockscreen) to turn off your screen without having to touch the buttons on the back! (Now i noticed when i was running an AOKP rom this didnt work every time as due to the fact every time it would shut off it would turn right back on... if thats the case for you try out option 2!
2. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] This is a simple bit, but your rom might not have this capability... if you go to your navbar settings you should be able to enable long press actions for buttons... select any button you'd like and set the long press for the application you have downloaded!
3. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] And lastly your third option... this should be if neither option 1 nor 2 work for your custom rom which they should... This one however is not easily accesible from any screen on your device only your home screen... first things first download that application above, now you download a launcher such as Apex launcher which i would reccomend because it allows this without paying for the full version and i tend to like apex alot better, from there go straight into your apex settings and go to behaviour... check out those gestures and set that application as your gesture! Nova launcher's is pretty self explanitory if you have prime. after that your good to go! Easy accesable screen off techniques you cant live without on the g2, hope this helps some of you!
I have another idea. Use GMD gesture control and use the edge of your screen to turn off the phone, or even double tap the nav bar (the app is ridiculously useful)
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Another option for CM Roms is to use the app below which gives you the option to Knock Off from anywhere on the entire home screen when using Apex or Nova and then have a double tap set or any other gesture you like up to execute this app.

My main reason for loving Knockon (and not jumping to any rom) is the wake up feature though. This is the first time that I have an android device where I don't rape the power button just to look at how pretty my lockscreen or launcher is.

Remap App Switch To Menu

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.
