LG Keyboard and Autocorrection - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

Im not too familiar with LG, havent owned a phone of theirs in years. Im just wondering, has their auto correction always been this bad? This is one of the worst phones ive used for auto correction, its not catching many of the mistakes at all. I switched to Gboard and it fixed the auto correction issue but then i lose all the dual screen festures of the LG keyboard.
Ive tried every setting trying to get it right and nothing works. After typing a whole paragraph out I have to go back and make many many manual corrections which is very time consuming. Any input would be very helpful, thank you.

Okay so I figured out what's going on. The autocorrect works, it prepared the word properly and will replace it with the corrected word, but only if you type slow, lol. If you type at full speed, it can't prepare the corrected word fast enough to get it ready before you hit the space bar. Lol what a joke. What a worthless keyboard it is. How can LG let something leave the factory like this? And if you do some reading it seems that every phone they've released since 2014 has had this issue. No wonder their sales are always in the tank.... Get it together LG
The absolutely amazing news is that Gboard was JUST UPDATED THIS MORNING!! And now fully supports the dual screen functionality of the device. So switch immediately and never look back if you get this phone.

Well Gboard doesn't work 100% right. The keyboard now works in the "wide view" mode, but it doesn't work when using dual screen. With dual screen, when you have the phone in landscape and attempt to type something on the top screen, the entire bottom screen becomes a keyboard, this is when using the LG keyboard. With Gboard it will open up a keyboard on the top screen, which is impossible to type on with your thumbs.
So sad.

Im using swift, I love it!
.... but the one I had on my HTc was more accurate I think that was swipe?

[Q] Touchscreen problem

Hi all! I have a brand new LG Optimus One, but I think it has a problem. When I tap on the screen or write a message and tap on one letter, sometimes the screen respond 2-3 or more taps (want to write "word", but when i pres the "D" it goes "wordddd". Does anyone have the same problem or? Thanks a lot!
P.s. Sorry for my poor english
Same here..
I have the same problem too but i think it happens more often with gingerbread keyboard. The lg keyboard lags little more than default android keyboard. I think I'll stick with swype for now

No problems here. Works fine, am using swype tho.

Can it be something with the stock protection foil?
Or may be i must go to the shop and return it
I removed the foil and still has the issue. I haven't tried other keyboards. Using the default LG Keyboard.

I am with the default keyboard too. Its very annoying, when the vibration is ON and when i just touch a letter...it's vibrating for 2-3 seconds.. Today i will try to go to the mobile shop and i will write after my visiting there.
Same here, I believe this is normal behavior, you have to remember that this phone has an entry level touch screen, so you can't except much from it. There are other problems with the keyboards as well related to touch. For example, in the Gingerbread keyboard you can do proper multi-chorded inputs (aka pressing shift + a character to capitalize the character) because of the touch screen quality. Same for pinch to zoom problems.
Download a touch screen test app to see what's really going on and why some things just don't work the way you expect. If you want better touch screen response you should've bought a more expensive phone. I'm happy with my Optimus One since I knew that this is a budget phone and that you can't have high expectations. That said, and knowing how much I paid for it new and unlocked (180€) I'm quite impressed with it's quality.

I am happy with my phone too! But when other people say, that they have no problems, what must i think about? I am from Bulgaria and here 180$ are not little money
So i went to the market and i played with the sample... It has the same "problem" )) So now I think, that all of this is because of my big fingers and "don't know how to touch" This is my first touchscreen phone and may be this is why i woried about. So thanks all for the answers, now i am a bit more calm! Great wishes for the NEW YEAR to all! Bye!
No problems with original android keyboard same as with SmartKeyboard Pro
Try to change to a different type of keyboard first and change back maybe after about 2-3 mins.
same problem
Hello folks!!
I have the same ptoblem with my touchscreen but only when i plug the usb cable to charge ...any solution?
it happens because of the touch screen lag bug. there is too much cpu usage when the touch screen is tapped.
that is why when you try to type fast using lg or android keyboard you will experience such problems.
this problem is not there with swype since you don't have to tap on the keys to type.
there is a touch screen bug fix and that will solve the problem.
I wish optimus one didn't have so many problems.

[Q] Can i change the screen sensitivity?

I'm coming from an iPhone and even though i love my new SGS2 the only negative i find is typing. I loved the iPhone keyboard and I'm trying to get a similar experience. So far I'm using Smart Keyboard pro with iPhone skin but even though it's pretty close i cant get the same feeling because the screen is not as sensitive. i have to press the space bar twice sometimes to register.
is there a way i can make the screen more sensitive?
Or if not is there another keyboard that will make my typing experience more similar to the iPhone one?
Thank you.

Can anyone tell me at least if its possible or point me to the right direction?
If you're genuinely having to hit keys twice sometimes just to get them to register then I'd actually question whether there's an issue with your handset because I've never heard of that happening before on this phone or any of the previous Android handsets I've used.

There's nothing wrong with my handset. Just coming from an iPhone you hardly even have to touch the screen for the keystroke to register. If you had used an iPhone you would know what I'm talking about. Ive reed somewhere that the SGS2 has the same capabilities and that with the right settings it can register a keystroke from 1mm away from the screen. But i don't know where to find this settings.
No one can at least tell me if its possible or not so i can stop looking?

as far as im aware there is no way of adjusting the capacative sensitivity, IMO though (coming from iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and Desire HD) the SGS2 screen is just as good if not better. slightest touches register instantly and think its an amazing screen !
if your problem really is as you suggest, i think there is a problem with the capacative screen and may need to get it repaired

has anyone else had problems with cursor while typing

Ok this isn't a huge problem but it does annoy me. When I type on the phone and.if i wanna go back to fix a typo or write something else it seems very difficult to get the cursor where i want it..on the og EVO u would just tap where I wanted to type or whatever..now it seems a lot more difficult..it brings up like a green icon that you slide ..its just like the icon when you cut and paste a word..funny though as i type this it isn't doing it as bad..the thing just bounces around and moves by itself..
One cool feature about the HTC hero was the trackball. I miss that!
if you use honeycomb (edit... Gingerbread) keyboard, you can slide the spacebar up to reveal directional arrows.
...nice upgrade from hero

Yes. Drove me nuts. I wasn't sure what the hell was doing it...I've been using the GB cursor thing for months now so it ain't me...my tablet and other phones all work normal. drove me up a goddamned wall cuz it always seemed to work fine for everything EXCEPT the actual place you need to put the damned thing...like it knew and was ****in' with me.

Also if you use swype you can bring up directional arrows by swyping from the swype key to the symbols key right next to each other as well so very quick

I'd prefer to not adapt to a design flaw. It worked perfectly fine before, I refuse to believe this is a "feature" so much as a bug as they say, one man's trash...
Yea I can't figure it out ..ill press where I want it to go and it will go there there just bounce somewhere else..it drives me nuts when typing..also I always hit the period instead of space but I guess that's my fault

Similar with Swiftkey X, you can enable arrows in the options, allowing for finer control of the cursor.
Honestly, though, the touch-based cursor control is always something that iOS has done better than Android, in my experience. Android gets close, but iOS moves the cursor very smoothly within words.

[Q] Telus/T-Mo Amaze vs SGIIX landscape keyboard

Hello all,
I'm trying to decide between the Amaze and the SGII from Telus, and the most important thing to me is the size of the keys and how well both work in landscape mode. I have large hands, and I will be doing a lot of texting and e-mailing from my phone as I do use my phones as business tools as well. It doesn't matter that one might have a slightly better camera than the other, or that one is a slightly superior movie viewing experience. I have always had physical keyboards, so it will take some getting used to lifting my thumbs between each keystroke already.
The dealers around where I live have all been reluctant to let me see both side by side, but it seems to me that the Amaze, despite being a smaller screen, actually has larger keys in landscape mode. Is anyone able to confirm this? Thanks to any that can shed light on this.
Telus dealer's should have no problem letting you see them side by side. At first they didn't want to let me handle either one of them but when I told them that I'm not about to sign a 3 year contract without looking at what I'm getting they agreed and allowed me to play with both.
As to your question, it seems to me that the Telus keyboard is bigger and easier to manage, but since that wasn't the focus of what I was looking at, I'm just going from (a rather poor) memory. I'd go back to a store and TELL them you want to see both phones.
Yeah the Telus I went to they let me try out the Amaze. They got one from the back that wasn't connected to anything. They just handed it to me and left me alone to play with it. I could have just ran out with a working phone. I compared the two but I never tried landscape. I would think the Samsung has a bigger keyboard because the screen is bigger, the resolution is lower so things are stretched out more.
i just got my amaze from telus (upgrading from desire hd) and i notice a HUGE difference in the ease of the keyboard. number 1 the duel core makes it keep up as i type fast, unlike the ****ty 1ghrtz on the DHD which wud be a bit behind, and the letters blow up a bit bigger to i think cause im finding it MUCH easier to type on the amaze. oh ya the swipe keyboard is awesome to once you get the hang of it
Thanks for the info guys. For some reason they always put one away before taking the other one out. Maybe I look like I'm going to take one and run out, guess I'll have to be more insistent.
I also noticed that the Samsung's keyboard doesn't have a comma, that you have to go to the # screen to get to it. I'm guessing that I'll be able to find one on the market that has it.

Are you sure the comma isn't somewhere on the keyboard above one of the other letters? I know that at first on the Amaze keyboard I was going into the # screen to get to the question mark, then I realized that I can press and hold the "k" to get the question mark. Samsung may be similar. Have a look.

There probably is one that's a long press, I meant a dedicated key without having to resort to a long press. Guess it's just one of those things I'm going to get used to coming from a physical keyboard.
Oh, and thanks for mentioning the question mark. Now I'm going to obsess about looking for an easy way to get to that

Coming from a physical keyboard can be difficult. I came from a physical keyboard (samsung slide) to touch on the Hero. I never really got used to it on that phone. The keys were so small even in landscape. I'm finding a huge difference with the Amaze. Way easier on the bigger screen.
I'm hoping the larger keys will make the transition. Thanks for your input. I see you're from the greatest city in the world (yes I'm a Surrey boy). It was the Apex in Langley, and the Telus store by the WalMart on 64th that didn't want me to see both at the same time.
I went to Best Buy and they let me see both side by side after a little coaxing. And yeah....I'm not too proud to admit I'm from Surrey. Not all of us are riot crashers.
Went back to Apex, finally got someone to show me both. The SGII's landscape keyboard is bigger than the Amaze's, about 3x2 mm bigger. Enough of a difference for me. In portrait mode, not even close, the SGII's was about 20% larger. Might actually be useable for me and my monster hands. The Amaze's camera was definitely better, but I was surprised to see some shooting modes missing that the T-mo version has.
I'd be happy with either, I'm sure, but I have to go with the SGII for the larger keyboards. Thanks to those who lent their input, I appreciate it.
Amaze Keyboard
Just thought I'd suggest the "Gingerbread Keyboard" from Steven Lin on the market.
Honestly one of the best keyboards I've ever used, coming from the MT4G.
Haven't had a chance to try it on the Amaze but will do sometime soon.
Let me know if you like it any better or if it even works on the Amaze.

I had a look at that keyboard on my Amaze and it actually makes the keys smaller. Particularly in portrait. The bonus to that keyboard though is the addition of a row along the top with all the punctuation. That is a useful feature. Too bad it was added at the expense of key size.

Oh really? That sucks. =( I do like that keyboard a lot.
Been using it for a year already on my MT4G. I do love the punctuation though.
The word selection comes easier for me too. Auto correct I mean.
I also like that after selecting a word it automatically spaces for me to start
typing my next word. And spacing twice puts a period. Holding enter brings up smiley faces. The list goes on. I may install on my Amaze anyway and see how I like it.
Thanks for the feedback though.

[Q] Stock LG Keyboard

Anyone one having issues with the stock LG keyboard and phantom characters on right side of screen? ie a P produces an O? Mine does not do it all the time and when it does a phone restart seems to fix it for awhile.

I wound up exchanging my G3 for an S5, but it's funny you mention that because I occasionally had the same problem. I figured I was just being extra sloppy when I was typing - if I was extra-extra careful I could still get the intended letter...
Not sure if I was fat fingering it and it's just a coincidence, but since I no longer have my G3 I can't really test it.

I had this happen to me when typing in the stock message app. Every time I would type something it would only do numbers. I found when this happens if you switch from lg to swype and back with in the app it fixed it.
