When you say "any", please give a couple of examples.
What stock Oreo US998 firmware are you on, and did you update to it correctly?

LOS 16 and 17 , RR and US99830b Stock all of them only stuck at boot logo / animation
I refurbish us99820h then partition dl h933 10g then partition dl us99820h flash twrp then flash lineage and us99830b flashable zip and now i stay at us99820h

I don't know why you can't run LOS-16 ROMs, but did you try those AFTER you tried to flash stock Pie or before? If you had stayed on latest Oreo there should be no problems flashing LOS-16 ROMs, but once you try to flash Pie that permanently changes your phone whether you are successful or not.
Try this tip for LOS-16 ROMs:

The LOS-17 ROMs require updating to stock Pie first or it won't boot. The LOS-17 ROMs have a few problems right now... They are a work in progress, and issues will be solved, but right now not many are using as daily driver:

Bugs on Android 10 and their solution:
1. Hotspot only works on open i.e. no security
2. Wifi may or May not work for you
If it doesn't work then try:-
1. Flash oreo modem
2. If oreo modem doesn't work then use this fix: https://t.me/LGV30U/150
even both these steps may not fix the wifi for some.
3. Recent Google Maps doesn't work, use Google maps go or older google maps version like 10 or .84
4. Google chrome works only on Gapps with Webview patched like Nikgapps
5. Doesn't work on H932 yet, no workaround for that.
6. Videos don't play on some messenger apps like whatsapp on recent builds.

If you DO update to stock Pie then that degrades your ability to run LOS-16 ROMs even when you downgrade back to stock Oreo. You have to run permissive kernel for camera/flashlight and other stuff may not work. This warning is all in the Root Sticky thread, which you read -- because it's clearly linked near start of WTF Instructions.

For US998 30b stock Pie, there are 4 methods listed to get there, the main one in post #2 of the US998 30b KDZ thread and then 3 workarounds down in post #6 of that thread (two of those need TWRP). If you can't get to US998 stock Pie 30b, then you have to wait for another US998 Pie KDZ to be released. This one seems wonky.
But all this is clearly stated in the US998 Pie KDZ thread. I'm confused why you opened ANOTHER THREAD when your question is already answered in Pie KDZ thread. At least the part about being stuck on LG/ThinQ logo...
I easily upgraded my spare V30+ to stock Pie (not even signed in with my Gmail account), but on my main V30+ I am still on latest Oreo -- on purpose. I don't see any improvements in stock Pie I need at this point in time. It's the same camera, the same look to the GUI. Besides that, I'm already running rooted stock firmware, Nova launcher + wallpaper + icon pack + I have Magisk and Xposed mods set up for what I want.
Pie isn't any faster nor have better battery life than last Oreo. Once US998 Pie improves I may switch to Pie, but right now I see no need for my daily phone.

Weird issue

The 1st time i root my device v300s korean variant i was able to flash los and aosp rom by kdz to us998 all of aosp and los base rom boot without any problem until i flash back to stock yesterday i mean kdz back to v300s with stock recovery to check something after that i re root back to us998 and flash twrp with same step like i do 1st time and guess what all los and aosp base rom did not pass boot animation.
And today whole day i was flashing kdz back and forth and try to remember what i did 1st time root but no luck still wont boot.
But when i flash kdz to h930 it boot fine i mean all the aosp and los base rom but when i kdz back to us998 still no luck i spend the entire day doing it still no luck.
The reason i must kdz to us998 is because korean variant only can get signal in us998.
I read alot of thread most people except h930 cant get pass boot animation. I really have no clue why no problem for me in the 1st place but now im clueless.
If anyone can help me greatly appreciated.

What do the LGUP Partition DL options mean?

What do the different options in the partition DL mode of LGUP mean? Some are self explanatory (modem, boot), some can be identified with searching (xbl), but some are unclear (tz, hyp).
Information on which ones have changed between oreo and pie would be helpful. My immediate goal is to complete an upgrade to pie (H930DS SEA / SG region flashed to 22J global / com but any pie update hangs at v30 / LG boot screens). But really I'm hoping to better understand what each portion of the kdz refers to. Cheers.

Just double-checking... You have an H930DS phone?
Which Dev Patched LGUP are you using? You need to use the ones in the Pie KDZ threads.
Most people with H930DS have flashed any of H930DS Pie KDZ or EU H93O Pie 30q with no problems. In fact, the only people having problems are North American variants trying to flash the wonky US998 30b Pie KDZ.

Yes, H930+ ThinQ DS from Singapore, verified model by LG bridge and IMEI lookup. It has been bootloader unlocked by WTF method, but I'm having difficulty upgrading past 22j. Software info shows android 8.0, 22j-global-com. When I flash pie KDZs (regardless of refurbish, partition DL, upgrade, etc) LGUP continues to show the version as 22j despite the fact that TWRP flashed zips (flashable versions of KDZ, verity decrypt, RCTD remover, etc) show android version 9. LGUP flashing to any oreo or nougat version works fine.

Yes I see most people upgrade without any issues. However it also seems that some 300VL Korean users and 930DS users have issues upgrading which sound very similar to mine:

Going to sound counterintuitive, but try downgrading to H930DS Nougat via Partition DL, Master Reset. Then from Nougat try Refurbish to Oreo.
You'll still have unlock Bootloader. After you get past Pie, then you can reinstall TWRP and root again.

Thanks but I have tried this, by adapting instructions from the 998 and v300l threads. The result is the same, still can't get past the boot screens (hangs for 30+ minutes at v30 or lg splash screens). Generally, I did:
- Refurbish to version 20 (usually f or d, tried 930ds sg 20f, 930 EU 20d, 930d's two 20d)
- Partition dl and select all to v10 (10d from several different regions)
- partition dl, refurbish or upgrade to pie (30b EU, 30q EU, 30a Aus, 30c Aus and sg)
I have tried with and without master reset, format data, and/or boot to welcome screen after each step. Still cannot successfully boot to pie. 22j EU and hk both work fine but that's the latest I can boot. I have even tried converting to us998 20a and upgrading from there (risky I realize) but still no good.
I have tried dirty flashing 22j to 30b (both original and v3) or 30q via twrp and it still just hangs at lg splash screen. Related to op I have been experimenting with omitting various partitions in partition dl mode (e.g. boot or recovery) during upgrade but still no success.
Is there some specific kdz version I should try (as with us998 20h > 10d > pie) beyond just downgrade to nougat?

If you have H930DS, you should only flash H930 variant firmware, not any North American variant firmware like USS98.
Very strange you can't update to any of the H930/H930DS firmware, either via KDZ or TWRP-flashable zips.
____
As for the US998 to 10d, that's just chosen because that was the last Nougat before Oreo. 10c would be just as good.

Yeah it's really stumped me. Hence the question about the partitions. I'm thinking something is mismatched somehow, as lgup keeps claiming the phone is still on Oreo while twrp confirms pie. Probably I should just pay for octo session but I was hoping to learn about how this works
Finally got it to load, by
- boot into system while connected to pc with mtp and usb debugging enabled. it stays connected the whole time
- pc has installed: lgup + dlls from the 3030q kdz thread, latest official lg bridge, latest official lg driver
- dirty flashing the 3030q twrp zip with no wipes or formats of any kind
- wipe cache + dalvik after dirty flash
- reboot phone to system, phone hangs on lg splash screen as usual
- reboot pc. somehow the lg software detected the dirty flash and identified it could be fixed... by rebooting the pc for some reason. I got a windows notification about this
- after rebooting pc, phone auto reboots and finally loads pie correctly
I have no idea what went wrong here but it seems fine now

I rebooted it yesterday. I'd tried rebooting several times during various upgrade attempts but never had this notification or any apparent differences. Still have expected weirdness from a dirty flash (magisk issues, etc) but LGUP now recognizes the device as 30q so hopefully I can clean flash the kdz successfully now. Thanks for your advice!

Should I expect for a stable Android 10 custom rom in the future for LG V30 US998?

I am struggled flashing the Android 10 cook rom in my LG V30 North American variant, specifically US998 model. Of course there is nothing wrong at flashing process. No crashing, no bootlooping, everything processed pretty well until I kept getting Wifi issue all the time. I attempted various of solutions like Jeff's backup, Oreo Modem, and other kinds of solution but no luck. And of course, I won't have any ability to access to Wifi if I kept on using Q ROM. I am just a newbie here so I don't know if it happened on Pie as well, but currently, I am running Havoc OS 2.9, and it worked perfectly fine. I flashed straight through Pie KDZ, so I'm afriad if it made permanent change to my device that prevented the Wifi to work ( Yes I already read the note, and it said to LOS 16 based rom, but I am running fine, nothing happened lol )
So am I permanently not able to use any kind of Android Q ROM Cook anymore, or am I able to get Wifi to work if I kept waiting and waiting for a completed stable version? Ty
Android 10 is completely stable tho, wifi is a hit and miss, try to downgrade to H933 and upgrade to stock pie, then flash android 10 again, nougat always seemed to fix stuffs, canada variant in particular, look in ChazzMatt's threads for flashing stock pie, there is a workaround about how to flash H933 nougat
Wait. Do I need to flash directly from LOS-16 based to Nought Partition DL and then flash KDZ to Pie, or stock Oreo first then Nought?

Nvm. I have no idea how stupid I am ?.
The thing is, I did put the Jeff's backup folder on TWRP folder, but I cant get why I did put it straight to backup folder but not the folder with my model printed in the title. There is a folder inside the backup folder, I put it in there, and I got Wifi. How strange it is lol
Anyway, thanks a lot for your support

Perhaps you do not need to downgrade. Try a factory reset first. I also have the H930DS AME region and updated to V31a-global as soon as it was released. Never had any wifi problems, but I had selected the refurbish option in LG-UP
ok thanks @ChazzMatt & @Plntus_aleborn
i reflashed pie v 31a with option "refurbish" but wifi problem still exists
then i flashed the oreo modem using partition dl option and problem fixed
but somehow google play says my device unauthorized don't know why i don't care though

Unlocked VS996 Issues

Hi!
I have a VS996 with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP. I went from stock, did a full wipe (Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache), and tried flashing Havoc-OS (Android 10) and had issues with connecting to Wifi. So I went back to JohnFauxes VS996 flashable and now I don't have data or a working camera. Not sure what's going on here. Ideas?

Went from stock what? Stock Oreo, Stock Pie? You have to be on stock Pie to go to LOS-17/Android 10 ROMs. LOS-17 requires LG stock Pie blobs (drivers). Yes, some have Wi-Fi connection issues. There are workarounds.
Went back to JohnFauxes VS996 flashable what? Last Pie, last Oreo? Something in between?
Going from LOS-17 back to stock you will have sensor issues which can be overcome by running in permissive mode. Other ways to overcome it is to Partition DL back to Nougat to scrub the device of all lingering LOS-17 ROM scentk, then upgrade back to newer firmware. If you don't want to do that then you need to run in permissive mode for camera to work.
I don't know what's wrong with your data.

Went from stock Verizon Pie ROM, to Havoc 10 Q. Then from Havoc 10Q to latest John Fauxes Verizon Pie. I'm not sure how to run in permissive mode or the partition DL I'm afraid.
Glad to have you replying. My goal is to have Android 10 Q on my wife's Verizon phone. Not sure if the 'call to activate modem' bug still exists, to where you can't receive texts unless you call after reboot.

* Here's the Wi-Fi workaround for V30 LOS-17/Android 10 ROMs.

(Ignore that in some of those posts they are are calling it Q ROMs. It's Android 10. Q was merely the beta letter name for what became Android 10, and some people don't want to give that up for some reason. "N" letter beta became Nougat, "O" letter beta became Oreo, "P" letter beta became Pie, "Q" letter beta became... Android 10. Yes, Google ditched the dessert name, but STILL you no longer use the beta letter name when it graduates and gets a statue in the Google Android Park. Call it "10" if you wish, but don't call it "Q." That's like calling a butterfly a "caterpillar". That was just the beta stage of the butterfly!)
____
The major problem you are going to have with V30 Android 10 ROMs is VoLTE -- or rather the lack of it. Read #5 of the V30 Custom ROMS FAQ. End of this year -- 2020 -- Verizon is dropping CDMA. They were supposed to do it end of 2019, but delayed a year. I don't see them delaying again. This means when you make a phone call you will not be able to drop down temporarily from 4G LTE to 3G CDMA for the phone call. You will need VoLTE (Voice over LTE) for all phone calls. Stock firmware has this capability. However, no V30 LOS-based custom ROMs have VoLTE for any carriers.
On V30 you can only get VoLTE on stock firmware or custom ROMs built on stock firmware.
This is September 2020. So, while you can use V30 Android 10 ROMs, in about 3 months you will have to go back to at least rooted stock Verizon firmware to get VoLTE.
T-mobile is dropping 3G HSPA in January 2021. Of the major U.S. carriers, 0nly AT&T is holding out. They will drop HSPA in February 2022.
Discussed in depth here:
All U.S. V30/V3O+/V30S will need stock firmware, not LOS-based custom ROMs. When?

Thanks for all the info. So I think I should go for your clean flash method by setting a partition, because I tried the WiFi fix and it forced me into Safe Mode and wouldn't otherwise boot. I think I found a flashable stock Nougat ROM, after which I intend to flash MSM Extended and get that working hopefully. So do I create a new partition in TWRP, use that for Nougat then empty the previous partition, flash Android 10 to it and get rid of Nougat again after that? Never done this before.
And setting permissive mode is done through a separate APK? Your link went to a post talking about how they used an unlinked APK to get camera and flashlight to work.

Yes, SElinuxModeChanger.apk.
You can get it here

The other ways to change permissive mode is to use a custom kernel that works with stock firmware. This apk solution is easier.

I can't say I'm familiar with that MSM Extended ROM. I do see it listed in the LG V30 Telegram Update channel.
If you found a working flashable stock Nougat ROM (there were two versions floating around -- one that kept TWRP and one that replaced TWRP with stock recovery) which keeps TWRP, then after using that you can flash back to stock Pie with TWRP flashable zip (you need Pie blobs for LOS-17 based ROMs), then install the LOS-17 based ROM/Android 10 ROM of your choice.
I'm confused about your question of creating a new partition. All you will be doing is flashing back to Nougat to ostensibly repair previous LOS-17 effects. Then flashing back to stock Pie firmware, then flashing your choice of LOS-17 based ROM.
The only people who create new partitions are those who want to use GSI (Treble) ROMs. Those ROMs are inferior and rely upon a user-created "Treble" partition since V30 never had official Treble. Those GSI ROMs lack many stock V30 features which "regular" LOS-based ROMs have.

I'm hoping I found the Nougat ROM that keeps TWRP here. When you mentioned "Partition DL back to Nougat" I took that as me needing to create a partition somewhere. Also I did indeed find MSM Extended on the Telegram Channel here.
All's I know is I need to get my wife's phone working before I go to bed (night shift), else she's gonna kick my ass for wiping it in the first place thinking I could just pop Android 10 on there. Ha. So whatever I need to do, I'll do it.

When I mentioned going back to Nougat via Partition DL I was talking about going back to full stock KDZ, not using a Nougat TWRP-flashable zip. Doing it the old-school way I was suggesting is harder but more thorough. You would use Dev Patched LGUP to go back to Nougat, wiping out TWRP. You would still have unlocked bootloader. Then you would LGUP to a Pie KDZ which has fastboot flash commands, then reinstall TWRP, reformat internal memory, then flash an Android 10 ROM.
Your way is easier.

That link is to JohnFawkes 20k, which is Oreo. Nougat starts with 10 then letter.
Nougat = 10 + letter
Oreo = 20-something + letter
Pie = 30-something + letter (except for Sprint which didn't go by the LG naming rules)
The Nougat TWRP flashable zips were released in the Telegram thread.

Okay... I'm nervous. So you think I can do it without messing up recovery? Darn it.
Could I be so bold as to ask you if you have an instant messenger of some sort? I would greatly appreciate it!!

Flash back to 20K Oreo for now. Use the Permission changer app to make it be "permissive" so camera works OK.
That Oreo is stable. You don't need Pie for now -- if you just want to make the phone work.
If it works, then you can flash back to Pie TWRP flashable zip later if you wish.
In the future you can find the Nougat TWRP flashable zip posted in the Telegram thread.
I'm about to take a shower and go to work. Sorry I can't do Messenger app.
