1) On my backup V30+ which is on stock US998 30b Pie (but doesn't have a SIM card inserted nor even signed into my Google account), it's connected fine to my home Wi-Fi network so I know it's not a stock US998 Pie issue...
2) This happens even on public free Wi-Fi networks? (Here in the U.S. we have McDonalds, Starbucks?) That would give you clue whether it's one particular router or all your phone has problem with. Or possibly problem with the type of encryption you have on your router.
Usually that message means the router is rejecting the device. You just have to figure out why. But is it one router or all?
3) If one particular router, try rebooting the Wi-Fi router itself.
4) Make sure you don't have any kind of router whitelist for certain devices or MAC addresses and your phone is not included. Or that you don't have some older b/g Wi-Fi chipset standard set; this one is not likely but I had that happen for an older Wi-Fi printer when I had "N" or higher set on my router.
5) On the phone, try forgetting the Wi-Fi network and refinding it. Enter in the password again.
6) Almost last, on the phone try the Network Settings Reset. (See screenshot from US998 30b Pie.) It will reset all network settings including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
7) Last, try Factory Reset?

Now you're complicating the question with hotspot...
Let's go back to original question:

If you can connect to public WiFi, then you need to figure out the reason you can't connect to other WiFi. Is it one WiFi router in particular?
I gave a checklist of stuff to go through. Rebooting the router itself, making sure you don't have a whitelist set on the router, reset your phone Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings, or factory resetting the phone.
_________
One thing I noticed that is different between Pie and Oreo Wi-Fi settings is in Wi-Fi Advanced section, in Pie LG removed that stupid setting to turn off Wi-Fi when your Display was off. I don't know of anyone who would ever want that turned on. When my display is off I still want to receive email, I still want to receive messages, I still want my phone connected to the internet.
But in Oreo, that setting is hidden in the Wi-Fi Advanced section, which is some people don't even know exist. Or if they found it one time, may not remember how to get back there.

[Q] Home wifi suddenly not working right with archos 70

I have recently returned to my apartment with my brand new archos 70. I use WPA2-PSK encryption for my wifi network. at first everything was golden, I could browse the web and whatnot just fine. as of a few days ago, wifi has not been working correctly. my device connects to the network (pulls an ip address from the router) but when I try to browse web pages or open web based apps they hang up and act as if I have no connection. it works fine on other networks (to limit the problem to my network) I have tried doing a factory reset of the device, tried power cycling my router and modem with no luck. I have also changed encryption types to no avail. i have the latest firmware for the gen 8 series. also from time to time during this session of events, sometimes it will connect to the router, then disconnect and reconnect. I have no clue whats going on because I havent changed any router settings since I got back. the only other devices on my wifi network are two laptops. any help would be appreciated.
you mean you restored to the factory settings ran through the start up all over again and it still won't connect to your router? have you tried any other types of connections or routers?
I had this problem just the other night was this close to reformatting the whole thing. but I solve the problem by turning the device off, then holding the reset button while it rebooted to turn it off again, an reinitializing the drivers.
how do you reinitialize the drivers? I did a factory wipe. and it connects, it shows as having network connectivity (even my router lists it as a dhcp client and currently making use of the access point) but no internet functions work. ive connected to other networks fine.
This happened to me when I first got my A70. What I had to do to fix it (after getting incredibly pissed, reformatting twice, and almost returning the thing) was to set it up to use a static IP address on my home wifi network. Don't know if it'll solve your problem, but it works beautifully for me and I'm able to enjoy the device now.
Just remember to uncheck "use static IP address" when you get on other wifi networks.
well, I set up static addressing, gave it a private ip, set up the gateway and dns, and it still wont connect to anything.
If set as wireless N, set as N+G or G only, latest firmware may have trouble connecting to wireless N networks.
na, I dont have it set to n, I have it set to auto which I believe puts it to g with my archos. thing is, it used to work. now it suddenly has problems.
Im beginning to wonder if the archos tablets are just picky about wireless routers. I wouldnt think so...
Upgrade the firmware
Archos published a firmware upgrade to solve this problem (December 2010). The related bug in the release notes is...
Wi-Fi: fix Wi-Fi stuck after a while when using WPA2/AES encryption mode
The new firmware download link is in the Archos website.
you can download the firmware to your computer, copy it to the root directory of the tablet using the USB cable, and run the upgrade process in the tablet.
... or you can use another WiFi network (without WPA2/AES) and download the update in the same tablet
Note: I cannot send the links, however you can use the information to search the links in the internet.

[Q] connecting to a non broadcasting wifi signal

So it seems that there is no way to connect to a non broadcasting wifi network in any of the current froyo roms. Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?
I have tried hidden wifi enabler and even added it separately, but it just says out of range when its sitting right next to the wireless router. With broadcasting on it connects with no problems.

I've done it in Vegan... what encryption are you using? I know there are issues with WEP...
using wpa2 I heard rumors that tkip doesnt work with it. This correct?
I got mine to connect running stock and TNT 4.4 but it wasn't easy. I intially went into wifi setting and "add a network" typed in the SSID (not being broadcast) and password (WPA2/TKIP) and it would find the network but not connect. I did some searches and found various suggestion but none worked.
After a lot of failed attempts I got frustrated and turned off wifi on the tablet and then turned it back and suddenly it connected with no problems. It may have been a one off thing but couldn't hurt to try it.
nik
Ill give this a try and see what happens. But I am not getting my hopes up.
Just out of curiosity.....
What's the point of connecting to non-broadcasting router?
It's like turning on WiFi in the middle of desert?
JMO.....
turn on ssid bdcst. connect then turn bdcst off.

If your wireless router doesn't broadcast it's SSID, others can not attempt to access it.
My Stock 3588 connects fine
I have a non broadcasting router in my home and stock 3588 on my gtab. Did the connection once when I bought the tab and it has been connecting just fine for couple months now!

So not even close to true
Using a non-broadcast SSID as a security measure is probably the weakest (well...next to no encryption at all) method available.

Using a Linux PC, I can see ALL available wireless APs with this command:
Code:
iwlist wlan0 scan
Hiding the SSID is not even considered to be a security option, it is that poor. Save yourself some trouble and let it broadcast the SSID.

WiFi Problem

Hey. My phone arrived today and so did the problems.
I have a wireless router(Asus W530G-V2). The internet runs great on my PC
Just before I went to school I could see my Wireless Network's name but I couldn't connect to it. It simply said Connecting... over and over again. The interned didn't work. Now I got home and and I can't even find the network. If I manually add it it's out of range.
Can someone help me?
Thanks.
edit: once in a while i get a weak connection (tp-link_b22866) that also doesn't work.
lol. check if ur asus router supports wireless internet. does it have an antenna or something?
Yes, it does. My sister used the wireless to use internet on her laptop.
It's possible that you could have entered the wrong password the first time, that would result in the connecting loop you mentioned, as for it not being visible I'm not sure why that would happen unless the SSID of the router is being masked, an idea might be to go to maccas and test your phone using the wifi there maybe? If nothing else connecting to another network would help us diagnose the problem.
I did a factory reset but still, the phone wouldn't see any network.
I'll try adding a wireless card to my PC and see if it receives any signal from the router.
If not, I gotta set up the router somehow.
Thanks.
check if ur router is compatible with the dd-wrt custom firmware. if its compatible flash it on ur router, it will solve all the problems.
or
try this
Small utility that allows you to adjust the transmitter power of WiFi, thus can be great help to save battery life.
Has been done 5 hard dimmer. The apartment is missing 4 or 11 dBm for normal operation. Battery consumption with this sometimes falls on the 60-100 mA.
Nope, dd-wrt is not supported
And I can't install the apk since I don't have internet access therefore I don't have Astro File Manager.
ok try this.
find out ssid broadcast name of ur router from ur sisters laptop.
ask her if its password protected. if yes, get it from her somehow.
then on ur phone do this,
Settings>Wireless & network settings> Wi-Fi settings
turn on the wifi
and select add Wi-Fi network
enter the ssid name in there.
if needed enter that damn password and save it.
voila!
I've tried that but below the network name it says "Out of range".
And my sister ain't here. I don't know if it's my phone that isn't receiving the wireless signal or if it's the router which isn't sending. I'll go later today in a place with hotspot.
Images of the router's settings. maybe there's something wrong here:
http://imgur.com/iJu8n&6TIsH&rkcJk&rKvub
maybe ur sister needs all the bandwidth and blocked ur phones mac id on the router lol
I said above that my sister isn't here now. It's only me so no one is using the wireless.
From what I can see there it's possible that the security on the network could be set to filter MAC addresses, I'm not sure if that is the problem, however at this point I'm not sure what else it could be...
Nah, it's not that.
I've messed around with it(to accepts the phone's MAC, disabled) but still won't work.
I'll go to a mall or somewhere to see if the phone's the culprit here.
Went to the local library and wifi worked smoothly. I've downloaded all the apps I needed(especially Astro file manager). So the router was the problem from the beginning.
Thanks anyway.
Well I'm glad it's not your phone that's the problem, hope you like your 01 and that you get your router working.
Hi,
can you check on which wifi channel your router sends. On my P500 I also don`t see a wifi network above channel 11.
By the way I`d like to know how to enable these channels with my Cyanogen 7.0.2 beta 6.5. I know that there must be some possibilities..

Can I get my device to auto-connect to WiFi without internet?

Hi everyone,
I own a Nexus 5 and I am running stock firmware, Android 6.0 MRA58K, unrooted and bootloader locked. I use this device at work and frequently connect to a WiFi LAN that has no internet connection (by design -- I use it to talk to other devices on the network). In older software versions (I believe back in the KitKat days if I recall), I could simply turn on the WiFi slider on my phone, and it would automatically connect to the network, and I could immediately start talking to the devices I need to (this was excellent!). Then when Lollipop first rolled around, it would still connect to the network automatically, but it would realize that there's no internet connection, so it would then prioritize the Cellular Data network, preventing me from communicating with my network devices. So I had to do an extra step by disabling my data connection, then things would work properly again. (Of course, this also meant that when I wanted to jump off the Wi-Fi, I would need to re-enable Cellular Data.)
Nowadays, Android seems to remember that my WiFi network doesn't have an internet connection, so it never joins it by default (very frustrating!). So every time I want to jump on the network, I need to turn on WiFi, then manually select the network to join, then go into the Data section and disable cellular Data, and then things would be working fine. Of course, if I ever walked away from the Wi-Fi range and then came back, I would again need to manually select the network.
And now with this lastest Marshmallow update, a new Notification pops up every time I join the Network that says:
"Wi-Fi has no Internet Access. Touch for options." When touched it says, "This network has no Internet access. Stay connected? Yes/No" There's also a checkbox that says, "Don't ask again for this network". Every time I check that box, and say YES to stay connected. And yet each and every time I connect to the network, this notification appears again! (The checkbox seems to do nothing). I've looked at the Advanced options in the Wi-Fi settings, and nothing there seems to help.
So my question is, is there a way for me to go back to the "good 'ole days", where I can get my phone to automatically join this WiFi network, and still prioritize it over cellular data?
If need be, I'm perfectly fine with rooting/unlocking my phone, if I need to install some custom firmware or whatever.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

2 android phones wont connect to wifi with new ISP, worked fine with old ISP

Hi,
Both myself and my wife's phones worked fine with our previous ISP. We have moved to a place that our old ISP does not provide service to, so had to go with another ISP. All of our devices work fine when connected to WIFI except my wife's android phone (Sony Xperia X Compact, latest stock rom) and my old Android phone (Moto G 4G running Lineage OS 14.1).
When either of us try to connect either of these 2 devices to our WIFI, they connect for a couple of seconds, then disconnect. They go through the following steps and then constantly loop
obtaining IP address
connected no internet
connected
saved
disconnecting
Rinse, lather, repeat, they both keep doing this constantly. Both these devices work fine on other networks and worked with my old ISP, so the devices themselves are physically fine, and all the other devices in my home connect to the new ISP's router fine as well.
Ive done the following to try to resolve the issue
Forget network and join again
Renamed device names
Temporarily disabled wireless encryption on router
Made sure Mac filter on router is off
Assigned static IP address to both devices
Cleared cache on google play services
Connected a 2nd router to main router as an access point using a different SSID
Used WIFI analyzer to see what WIFI channel was being used the least in my neighborhood and changed the channel on the router accordingly
Turned airplane mode on and off
Turned device off for 30 seconds then back on
Reset network settings
None of these steps have worked, the only thing I haven't done is factory reset both devices which my wife isn't prepared to do with her device but I might do with mine. Are there any other steps that might resolve this before I pull my hair out ?.
Thanks in advance.
@J0hnick
1. A Factory Reset doesn't take effects on Android's system settings
2. Android by default always tries to connect to near-by Wi-Fi networks you've connected before. Hence you've to remove saved networks ( i.e. Forget network ), then add new new network ( i.e. Add network & Save)
Have you tried restarting the router?
