Anyone with rooted phone using f.lux? - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

If you don't know what f.lux is, it's an app that makes the screen warmer. It's like the granddaddy of the night / warm light / blue filter app.
My phone isn't rooted yet but I want to ask if anyone who's rooted tried f.lux from the play store? Does it work with the hardware driver (rather than composite, where the battery takes a hit).
I know the a3 has the night light but even on the lowest setting it makes white text looks kind of pink rather than yellowish and I like the f.lux look better.
Thanks

f.lux hasn't been updated for a very long time and stopped working properly since Oreo I think. I've just tried it and Qualcomm/Tegra HW drivers don't work. Only the composite and even that is a bit hit and miss. Probably not worth using.

Using stock night mode works fine

Btw. keep an eye on Twilight app, developer is trying to use accessibility service to have full screen overlay so the app can work fully with Android 9 and 10 again. Hopefully he'll succeed.

Do you know if the stock ROM's night light feature uses overlay or some other method to achieve warm light? It does not seem to interfere with install button.

[Q] Notification led for sgs2

As we all know, the sgs2 doesn't have notification leds. However, we do have leds under the menu and back buttons. I was wondering if anyone knows of any app that takes advantage of this. I want to use the menu and back button led as a notification led. Periodically flashing would be extremely helpful. I know there is NoLed on the market but that isn't the most elegant solution. Perhaps even using camera flash on minimum minimum brightness could be doable.
You need BLN for that. (Back Light Notification)
1- You have to flash BLN compatible kernel for that. For example- Ninphetamine.
2- You need to have liblights.zip installed. You can find it from Jame Bond thread.
3- You need to install BLN Control Pro for that, free version wont work for Missed calls and stock SMS/MMS app.
4- If you want notification for stock SMS/MMS app then you have to install 'Light Flow Lite' from market.
I was recently using it with that kernel, but I don't like that kernel at all.
Besides flashing too many things for just a simple light notification is very kiddish. Got rid of BLN and back to CF. No intention of getting it unless it start supports all kernels.
Regards.
Im running the villainROM 2.4.2 with ninphetamine kernal and XXKG6 installed.downloading the BLN app from the market you get that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
Has anyone noticed the red light that appears at the top of the phone next to the front camera and sensor? I've only really noticed it once the phone has been fully charged.
Perhaps this could be used to indicate a notification, assuming there isn't an app that already uses this light?
Lol, thats the Proximity sensor taking effect dude.
Sent from GT-I9100
Well whatever it is, could it not be used as a notification indicator if it hasn't already been?
Sent from my GT-I9100
No sir, it can only be used in a call when you put your phone near your face/ear it helps to turn off the screen.
Regards.
Wait, so that really is an led light?! I've never seen it go off, it would be sweet to have a red notification led, just like my old Blackberry... BLN works okay for now, though is is NOWHERE as bright as the led on the blackberries.
I started using NoLED, coming from a Desire I was a bit disappointed. I like NoLED but I'm concerned about the impact it has on battery even though I have mine set to 1% brightness and I rather have the standard icons on screen rather than the custom icons to be honest.

Wooaaa.....
why such hassle?
i thought android suppose to be the smarted OS. :-(
back when i was using symbian, light signal plus, a simple app can make softhey LED lit up.
i was hoping theres a widget or app in android that can do the same thing.
rooting or flashing for such small function seems overkill. :-(

Android is the smartest OS but it isn't the simplest one. And as an user, not a dev, I don't like that too.
I also remember about Light Signal Plus when I had 5800XM.

Does the Honor 9 receive many updates?

I've never owned an Honor or Huawei device before, so I'm curious about updates.
Does the Honor 9 receive Google's monthly security patches? Or are the updates few and far between?
Also, how good is the theming in the stock firmware? Can you change the theme of the settings menu and quick settings?
I would not say it recieves monthly updates for security patches. Mine sits at 5'th July at the moment. One new OTA is on the way some has started to recieve it. It's the third OTA since they released the phone one of which got pulled at one point because of some issues. The theming engine is very good you can theme basically anything including third party apps and what you mention.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like EMUI is quite similar to MIUI in terms of both updates and themes. The July security patch is better than some flagships.
Can the colour and blinking speed of the notification LED be customised with apps like Light Flow and Light Manager? By default, is it green for messages and red for charging?

I don't use Light Flow so I wouldn't know sorry. Yeah it's green for messages for charging it's yellow while it charges and green when it's filled. And for Tapatalk it's the yellow/orange as usual.

I use Light manager and it works flawlessly but:
it's impossible (anyway I'm not able to do it) customize blink speed. Colors are right but speed it's always the same
Notifications are ok with all apps but charging. Charging colors are overwritten by system settings (orange until 90% and than green). More it's impossible to disable them during quiet hours set by Light manager. I'm root but I don't have found a way to do it.
I've tried Light Flow too. It seems worst than Light Manager but I've tried it for a couple of minutes than maybe I'm wrong.

So it's green at 90% and at 100%? That seems silly. If you want to glance at your phone to see if it's fully charged, you don't know if it's 90% or 100%.

Most phones I've had turn green at 90%. I guess it has something to do with the fact that the battery takes less beating in the long run if you don't charge it till 100% all the time.
Short answer is NO
I live in UK bought 9 over 3 weeks ago and have had NO updates. Still on the b100 firmware and May security patch.
Has the b130 update been pulled?
If not, I'm not impressed with the way Honor release updates.

[APP] Arc Lighting - Notification Light for Galaxy S10/+

Hey everyone!
I'm here to announce the release of a new Android app developed by me and my partner under the company "Symetium Corporation."
REMOVED
The app is basically just a list of things we would really want to be able to put around the camera cutout. It's extremely customizable and has endless combinations of setups. For example, you can enable a setting called 'Always Show Ring' which lets you have a solid color, dynamic color (based on the current app), or a few different types of gradients. In addition to that, you can run a rotation animation on it. Finally, you can also set up different indicators such as a notification indicator, an audio visualizer, a charging indicator, a low battery indicator, a critical battery indicator, and a device overheat indicator. Another notable effect is that you can add a glow effect to spice up the ring's appearance.
The app isn't free because we need to make back some of the development costs as well as fund our exciting upcoming projects, HOWEVER, you get 1 free hour of use and can watch short video advertisements in exchange for additional hours of time using the app. If you can't afford to purchase the app, we understand but would still love it if you would take a moment and try the app for an hour or two!
Compatible Devices
- Galaxy S10+
- Galaxy S10
- Galaxy S10e
Download
The app can be found on the Google Play Store here:
REMOVED
If you have an S10, S10+ or S10e, we'd love for you take a bit of time and try it out. Feedback is extremely crucial to us at this stage of development so we'd love to hear back from you! Thanks for your time!
Update:
Announcing support for the Galaxy S10e!
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this new update. We really appreciate your help!

So before anyone asks, what are the advantages over Chainfire's implementation ?
Does it work screen off ?

it does seem to work screen off as I can see the ring when AOD is enabled, but it's out of position, it's not around the camera cut out.

no guess not as I turned off AOD it would not appear until I touch the screen for the fingerprint to appear.
Hey everyone thanks for the feedback! I just released an update to fix the positioning issue. Apparently, I was using the wrong method for device detection. Basically, you were all seeing what I see when I test rather than what you SHOULD have seen using an S10/S10+. Apologies for the confusion! The update should rollout within the next few hours.

It works as long as you have Always-On display enabled. Our goal eventually is to make it work regardless of whether or not AOD is enabled.

@epicality, Hmm, Where's the setting for the s10+? I'm getting half cut-off circle, it seemed to be for the s10 model?
Also now I got this error message, please see attached.
i got a very big cutout in s10+
@epicality
its still out of position with latest update, it's get little better when using WQHD+ resolution, but using FHD+ makes it worse.
Hi do you still have issues with alignment or detection im getting emails from people about it still apologies for this but neither he or I own a s10 or s10+ to test on

I currently purchased your program and hope for further upgrades.
Bugs I found:
1. The program cannot correctly recognize the phone model (Hong Kong S10 SM-G9730), see attached screenshot.
2. The position of the ring coincides with the position of the camera.
If you're having issues with the app recognizing your device, please download the app "Phone Device Info" by "sadens studio" and send a screenshot of the first section like so:

LED notification alternatives

I guess will be nice if we discuss how to achieve some kind of notification on our displays without draining the battery. Smartwatch is good way to deal with it, but let's keep to the phone itself. Most wanted feature is to have recurrent notifications. I invested some time in trying some apps and these are my "5 cents":
- Always On Edge- this is the program I prefer to use so far and will explain why. It lights up the edges and could be set to be recurrent. With many settings about almost everything. Just don't forget to save the settings after changing things. It works most of the time, but it's a bit tricky- don't let the system to control it (to stop it)- you can do it from battery management. And from my experience- use the power button to turn off the screen (or just leave it to turn off). Using some additional programs (like JButton and Fluid gestures) activate more secure mode (could be wrong) and prevent the notification blinking. The good is that it's relatively battery friendly.
- LED Blinker Notifications - always working, nice customization. Shows colored circles on the screen in Awlays On Display manner. Can set different color for different app and random position (to avoid burn-in). The bad- spends a lots of power and the battery is going down fast. And is way pricier. I bought it anyway to test it, but probably will stay unused.
- Glimpse Notifications- works (almost) always. The problem is that will either light up your screen (drains battery, because wakes up the CPU) or makes a vibration or a sound. This could be annoying for everyone.
- integrated Always On Screen feature in our phones- works fine, shows icons with the notifications. Nice solution, but spends about 1% battery per hour (on my phone). This is the whole consumption of the phone of course, but I think that this is 1.5-2 times more than regular consumption. It's good solution anyway.
I use the following combination:
- Always On Display with clock + notification icons
- Always On Edge (rainbow crashes around the edges + clock + notifications)
- phone is in DND
- Xiaomi Mi Band 3 vibrates

What is the purpose of DND? Avoiding sounds and turning on the screen?
P.S. In my previous opinion I meant AOD- Always On Display (not Screen ). Sorry for the mistake.

I don't want to hear anything from the phone. Just want to be notified in a visual (AOD + AOE) and haptic (Mi Band 3) way.
I assume screen or display is both fine
Hi
I'm also looking for a solution since I miss the LED so much. I'm currently with Always On Edge, but I'm not happy with it. It drains the battery quite a lot, even when I don't get a lot of notifications.
I had days where the stats do report 90 min cpu including 50 min in background. It's quite unrealistic that it had to blink that long during the whole day.
If somebody has a better alternative (also playing together with the fingerprint unlock), please let me know.
Better to check the mAh that are consumed, than the CPU and the screen time. It's located in Power Consumption Details -> Software and is not so bad. But probably depends on how much time you spend away from your phone. You can use AOD and put the phone with screen down, it will turn off screen until you flip it and see if notifications are available.

@kimirai1027 for some Apps e.g. WhatsApp you can specify vibration intensity:
Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp -> More Settings -> Vibration: Off/ Standard/ Short/ Long
@doemEINS Thank you buddy.. cheers!
I had tried to use ALWAYS ON EDGE (among a few other apps) but no matter what settings I tried, etc. I could not get it to work. That being said, I found another app on the Play Store called ALWAYS ON AMOLED and it works like a CHAMP.
It is super customizable and seems to be very similar to ALWAYS ON EDGE so if you are looking for something like this to use as a visual for notifications then I recommend this app. Just search for ALWAYS ON AMOLED on the Play Store...

On the other hand, guys what is wrong with just using the AOD? It doesnt drain the battery like the Samsung one...so...? I use that and I am ok with it.

I find it unbelievable in this day and age when manufacturers decide to remove a functional Led yet don't replace it with anything half decent for notifications.
You know when you plug in your charger, those green bubbles appear? A notification like that would have been nice.

Native hardware LED notification light working on Android 10!

So I noticed that I'm getting LED notifications on the top right of my screen. I didn't see this on stock Pie. I know it was hidden and you had to manually enable it, but not anymore I guess. I've been using the paid version of this app to customize my LED colors per app. Seems to be working pretty well so far.

Eh ive used that one in the past as well. It has a much larger footprint then light manager. I stopped using it years ago when it required a persistent notification.
Blue or green?
I do not use any LED color manager. My LED is very pale blue. I just noticed that my daughters pixel 2 xl LED is crisp, vibrant green. I don't see anywhere, natively, to change the color. Am I missing something, or is it maybe different hardware release builds? Anyone have thoughts?
I tested few apps before and Light Manager Pro is the best. Right now, you only can download Light Manager 2. But the Flash Rate option is disabled in Light Manager 2 and only enable in Light Manager Pro. There is no upgrade / support for Light Manager Pro version. Luckily, Light Manager Pro is still working OK on Pixel 2 XL.
I am using 2 apps for notification alert, Light Manager Pro + EDGE MASK. It makes my Pixel 2 XL looks very cool.

Light flow does not require a persistent notification, at least not anymore. I've been using it for years at this point as well, and I vaguely remember that persistent notification in the past. These days though there is no notification whatsoever showing, and the app works perfectly.
Although, for anyone else who may be interested in lightflow, you'll need to go to their website and download the legacy version in order to have it be able to set the light for missed calls voicemails and some other stuff. They can't put that version on the play store due to restrictions with permissions, or something like that.
