run executable file "Permission denied" on Android 4.2.2 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried run ssserver on Nexus4 with Android 4.2.2 but can't. The result is "Permission denied". File permissions appear to be normal:
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp $ ls -al ssserver
-rwxrwxrwx shell shell 810284 2019-04-17 09:33 ssserver
I tried the following but it didn't work:
- reboot device
- disable selinux
= create test.sh in same directory and set execute permission run but get same prompt "Permission denied"
The problem seems to be only under Android 5.0 will happen. I tried create Android 4.2.2 emulator and execute ssserver it's ok!
Why can't I run ssserver on Android device?

Hy i have same problem . Can you solve this problem? /clear completly chainfire3d/
Same problem, I used to be able to run The Settlers and other games, now I can't..

Having root access from recovery is a must to solve problems if you run into them (run "/system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh" as root to remove the driver and restore the old one)
1. boot into jb recovery mode
2. run "adb devices" - to make sure the phone drivers are ok (should output a long hex string and "device")
3. run "adb shell" from command prompt
4. in shell prompt "sh system/lib"
5. still in shell "sh /cf3d_uninstall.sh"
phone will reboot and you have working jb system
- it worked for me but no guarantee it'll work for you!
hope it helps.
if sh /cf3d_uninstall.sh doesnt work , try 'sh /system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh" instead.
another solve
guys at first i tried to use adb

Hi, i'm a boy from Finland. I have the same problem as "manju_xda" but i have the root permissions in my device..
The question is.. .. I'm stucked with chainfire 3d and my adb shell tells that "adbd cannot run as root in production builds" .. What to do?
And sorry for my bad english
For those who found this thread on Google, I found my solution in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362873

[Q] Superuser denied to shell

Hi everyone, I recently installed this ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516&page=73&nocache=1 (unfortunately I can't post questions on that thread yet). Superuser access works fine from apps and terminal emulator, but if I try to connect from adb with "adb shell su" I get "Permission denied" on my command prompt and a "Superuser denied to shell" toast on the phone.
I can't find a way to change this, apparently the shell user can't su. I tried from the terminal emulator too and here's what happens:
Code:
[email protected]: / $ whoami
u0_a14
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # whoami
root
[email protected]:/ # su - shell
[email protected]:/ $ whoami
shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
Permission denied

Any help pwetty please?

[Q] adb shell prompt

Hey everyone I got a very technical question
I am trying to set a custom prompt for the shell on an android device running bourne shell (sh), I have suceeded in setting it for a login shell (sh -l) but I would like to make this default for non login like adb or ssh through connectbot @localhost. Normally on linux I could do this by editing /etc/profile but for some reason on my android sh does not read /etc/profile unless it is a login shell. I tried moving the sh binary and replacing the sh binary in /system/bin with a shell script that executes sh -l but I loose superuser access ( shell reports su command not found) so I moved sh back to /system/bin/sh. Does anyone have any Idea which file is read in by sh at launch?

[Q] Chinese Tablet Root Problem

Hi all! I have a Chinese tablet that I need to root in order to run some applications. It mounts a 4.4.2 Android version and I can access via adb by opening an adb root shell. The table is called letine lt707a .
This is what I did:
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push su /system/xbin
adb shell busybox chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
Then I installed a version of Superuser.apk. When I open a terminal emulator app from the device, if I write "su" I obtain a "Permission denied" message.
Where is the problem? Maybe I have an old binary su?
I also tried with SuperSU without any results.
Thank you for your help!
I have just to push the correct su in the folder, but I don't know where to find it. After that in case of error I must undersand how Superuser communicates with the su. Anyone?
I think the problem is with kit kat. I pushed the su binary that came from superSU, but when I open a terminal emulator to write su I obtain a number zero as output.
If I start superSU I obtain a warning message: the program doesn't find the su binary.

ADB push alternative from Android device itself (non-rooted)

I have a non-rooted Android device with stock ROM 4.4.2 and I have the following test shell script:
Code:
adb push test.sh /data/local/tmp
adb shell "cd /data/local/tmp; chmod 755 test.sh"
adb.exe shell "sh /data/local/tmp/test.sh > /dev/null 2>&1 &"
If I run this over ADB from PC to my device, it simply works.
Now convert this to:
Code:
cp test.sh /data/local/tmp
cd /data/local/tmp; chmod 755 test.sh
/system/bin/sh /data/local/tmp/test.sh > /dev/null 2>&1 &"
and it doesn't work. It says permission denied on /data/local/tmp.
Is there any other EXT4 place on a non-rooted device that I can do this?
Well, I cd to /data/local/tmp and even submitting a 'ls' command inside Terminal Emulator doesn't work, it says permission denied, but when doing it from PC to Android using ADB it's fine. Is there any workaround for this? I want to be able to do this on the device itself.
Thanks

No there isnt, not if you try using /data partition. ADB can read this partition (and that too was added around android kitkat itself for purpose of adb backup
etc). So ADB can read this partition, but terminal emulator and such cannot.
Assuming that you have a great reason to simply not copy the sh file to user-usable internal memory, /system partition is the one place where you can copy things without actually having root (and even access them with terminal emulator, but not manipulate them), and this isn't that simple either. Rather, the method will be device dependent. For instance, if you have a phone like Nexus phones, simply download stock firmware, open/extract it depending on what format it is (img or tar), add your sh file and repack the firmware, then flash it into the phone. The firmware should be same as your current installed so your applications dont mess up. But this method is not only long (and messy if your device has integrity checks on firmware files), but also not possible on some phones (as far as I know).
You can also try copying the sh file with adb to /data/data/com.android.terminal. Then you should be able to access this with terminal emulator (since an app has permissions inside its own data folder). However I have not tested this method and I am not sure it will work.
Besides this, every app (including terminal emulator) runs in a sandbox and does not have access to anything except /system (read-only access), emulated user-storage and its own data inside /data/data/. So in phone itself, you cannot read the file unless you copy it to /system or user-memory. And this finally implies that except above two methods, there is no other way to copy file to some other place except user-memory and be able to read it using some app inside phone itself without rooting.
Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I resolved the problem. Yes, it's right, I can simply run the shell script without even moving it to /data/local/tmp... so now I can conveniently running it directly from my phone without having to turn a computer on and do it over ADB.
thankx
