Samsung SM-J337PVPU1ARG3 Stock Firmware? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So a friend of mine gave me his j3 Achieve to get unlocked. It has the FRP lock activated so I'm wanting to clear it by reflashing the original stock firmware to the device. However, I'm only seeming to find firmwares that are the wrong version.
I'm looking for the PVPU4BSJ2 varient of the sm-j337P firmware, anyone have a link to that?
EDIT:
So i got to looking at the PIT file from the device, and it reports the firmware version as J337PVPU1ARG3, but yet the recovery still says J337PVPU4BSJ2. So i have a feeling i need to find the PVPU1ARG3 firmware, but its nowhere to be found on the net, unless i want to pay for a subscription to some bs firmware site.
So if anyone has this version of the J3's fimware please let me know and share. Otherwise I could use some help figuring out if im even right about the version. Ive included a link to the PIT file and pics of the recovery menu and the back of the device.
I'm using Heimdall v1.4.2 on Linux Mint 19. It will sucessfully flash all the firmware images except for the system image, it keeps erroring out saying it cant open the system.img file. I suspect the image is too big (idk why since its stock, maybe I just need to use ODIN)
PIT File and screens: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VSVoLtHK5d-Sm3ja8hy_X4WJakJfvEgu
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

So I may have found the correct firmware. I found samsung-firmware.org and it seems that they have the correct version I need. However they throttle the download speeds heavily. So a trick I found is to use the commandline downloader Axel on Linux.
Using Axel gets me almost 500kbps downloads speeds instead of the 120kbps that Firefox gets.
Link included below. Make sure to get the correct region!
https://samsung-firmware.org/firmware/pda/J337PVPU4BSJ2/
EDIT:
So I've tried the firmware above and the device is still stuck in a boot loop, and i can't see to flash the system.img image. Heimdall keeps giving me an error saying it can't open the system.img file.
I also discovered that in my PIT file, it says the firmware version is J337PVPU1ARG3.
So I've tried looking for that version and I can't find it ANYWHERE.
Ain't gonna lie I'm stuck on this one, so any help is greatly appreciated.

[Q] How to install Kies downloaded firmware?

After searching around in the forum, I have a specific question I cannot find the answer to.
I am presently on the overcome 2.2.0 Rom (P7510, XWKL1). The result of this is that, of course, it cannot be updated through KIES.
My Kies downloaded a file for upgrading my 7510, which can be found on the harddisk, and is XWKL1 stock for my Dutch region (PHN). The Overcome Rom is XAB.
In preparation for ICS (stock, coming in the next two months I hope), I would like to go back to the stock XWKL1 for PHN.
I am stuck as to the procedure though:
1) restocking with the overcome restocking will not be PHN as well, so Kies will not upgrade for PHN
2) I have found the firmware upgrade file on my harddisk, but is has no extension and therefor I do not know how to install this over overcome 2.2.0. How do I turn this file into something I can flash?
Who can give me the precise instructions here?
Hi I'm also looking for a long time to a Dutch ROM PHN csc
You'll have to use Odin and a stock firmware from samfirmware.com
You also have the flashing guide on the same site
I installed the ROM via odin but in none of the stock ROMs is the Dutch csc present.
** Bumping this **
As I have note been able to sort out what I wanted, I'll try again with this bump.
Specifically tryin to find the answer to question 2 in my OP:
2) I have found the firmware upgrade file on my harddisk, but is has no extension and therefor I do not know how to install this over overcome 2.2.0. How do I turn this file into something I can flash?
Have searched again in the forums but did not find the answer.
All files have some sort of extension. At least in my experience. It may not show but it's still got a file type/extension. On a windows machine find the file and right click on it and choose properties. It should show xxxxx.yyy where yyy is the file type/extension. Post what it is and someone will let you know what to use it with.
This is my best suggestion.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one stinky finger.
The file really has no extension. I have showing the extensions turned on in windows, so it would show if it had one. The filename is: XWKL1PHNKK1XWKL1XWKL1 and giving it a .zip or .rar extension does not make it readable.
I'm at a loss then. I've never seen a file that didn't end with (dot)something. I'll look more into it and hopefully someone will help before it's lost.
Sorry I couldn't help.
If you see this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
When kies downloads a firmware it saves it in a file that only Kies can read, I would however suggest you just get it downloaded from sammobile site, as they have it there, you may need to register, but I do hope their file sharing issues are rectified and the links still work... Bloody SOPA.
You could however factory reset?
I could, but Sammobile does not have this firmware/CSC combination available for download. Do you know of someway to kickstart Kies into installing the firmware it has downloaded, so I can go back to a restoch and then force the install of this firmware?

Well like I said, back then the original firmware files would consist of 3 different files, the Phone/PDA/CSC, you just need the PDA file, Apparently they've made it easier now by making sure all you need is the PDA file and just to flash that file via Odin in the *not so obvious * PDA slot, It now contains the CSC/Regional of the desired firmware and the modem.img

Just a quick question, what is a Kies file format? Is it xxxx.yyy or just xxxx with yyy being a format or extention?
Or am I just completely ignorant on this?

As far as I know the format is somewhat like xxxyyy it's just a dump file, I haven't gotten around to waste time and figure what app works best on opening/converting, and plus it's risky since if the normalboot.img doesn't get flashed you may end up with a brick but I'm pretty sure its in a md5 format or a tar atleast.

[q] please help, im new to this, phone not working at all~~~~!!!

Hello, please help me.
I rooted my phone few months back and it was working fine.
I had the brilliant idea of trying to back everything up so i can install the stock rom to get the new 4.1.2 update on my note 2 from verizon.
I downloaded this recommended back up app that only works on rooted phones.
After i downloaded and installed, it went blank and it said i had an invalid system something and i needed to take to the verizon store.
I did that, they told me they cant help obviously because its a rooted phone
i tried following steps in installing the stock rom such as:
Getting odin:
Installing the driver:
But when i download the file from various sources and extract, it does not become a valid file name to load into odin.
I tried many roms and none of them work.
I tried extracting with 7zip win zip winrar, and nothing works.
I keep getting the file .xz
someone please help me get my phone back to work.
I cant do anything...now i get a new message saying the firware is invalid or something.
Im so desperate im not sure what else to do.
Thank you for reading this.
the .xz is fine. click on pda, then click on file extension and types, select all, the file should show up. select it, hit start and odin will verify the md5.

[Q] Halp =( bricked

So i have a stock sprint note 3 that had 4.4.4 on it.
I attempted to install twrp/cwm through odin, but it failed and now i'm stuck in the failed firmware update loop.
I have tried installing older versions of the stock firmware, seems like i'm stuck looking for a 4.4.4 which seems kinda hard to find right now.
What are my other options, my friend is looking for the serial numbers to see if i can just use keis to recover.

Although your thread will probably be moved to the Q&A section, you stated you are able to install older versions...... take it back into DL mode and Odin 4.4.4. There are several threads you can download the NK4 Firmware from including the Sammobile site.

Honestly it sounds like you're making this more difficult than it really is.
All you need is;
NK4 .tar
SU
&
TWRP
So i'm fairly new to this the last phone i did was my vz s4 (and it went off with less bumps).
I'm stuck in the boot load loop. I can't flash any ROM on it right now, i think i'm trying to find the right 4.4.4 rom. Any place with good rom support would help. sammobile is far too slow on downloads...also there are a few 4.4.4 roms by now.
So the phone was purchased in early Nov 2014, already on a 4.4.4.
I dl'd odin and a TWRP, foolishly didn't make sure 4.4.4 could be flashed in the same way. Odin marked it as failed and when i re-start the phone it runs into the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
The phone can get into download mode just fine (cannot boot)...tho i have no idea what to flash onto it now.

As Nickitt stated, don't make it more than it is. If you can get into DL mode then you are not fully bricked which is good. You need to flash an " Official 4.4.4 Firmware " to get you out of this situation, whether it be a slow download or not. I provided a link in my original first response of several uploads of 4.4.4 that you could possibly use that were uploaded by member shadowcliffs in his same thread/post. After you have flashed the official firmware and gone through the initial setup once again with the stock firmware, get the phone back into DL Mode and flash TWRP or Philz CWM recovery via ODIN. Once you have your custom recovery loaded, flash the Custom Rom of your choice.
Hey dark,
thanks for the quick and very very useful response. i wish i hit this up way sooner i did find those links after hours of searching through garbage. i've been downloading a few 4.4.4 images for the last 2hours. Hopefully this will help me! sadly those are the same slow connections i've scene. damn 50kb/sec so sad haha
I'll keep the board posted. but mostly bump that og thread
Damn, fails on the nk4 image and the nh7.
fails on the same spot system.img.ext4
any other suggestions board? please?
make sure your using the hltespr version of either TWRP or philz recovery, if its not working on TWRP switch to philiz. Could also be a bad download - re-download and flash again
Why don't you just use TWRP Manager to install TWRP after you root?
Sent from my GALAXY Note 3 via Tapatalk
not being able to root was the problem
FIXED my issues!!
Never use vmware and Mac to run heimdall or Odin... They should more prominently tell you that.
Thank you board for the concern
problem solved
Thanks for updating that you fixed the problem and what it was. It sounded like you were doing everything correctly. i was getting concerned that it wasn't working. I don't use mac, but if i did i would have been very grateful for that knowledge. thanks for the update. too often someone fixes the problem and just quits posting on the thread.:good:

Parallels is a better option imo as far as v-machines are concerned but anything after Mountain lion doesn't work well. The newest mac osx doesn't work at all with Heimdall. It won't download the pit file. If your running mavricks you can try using a program called winebottle
How to Run Odin On Mac: http://youtu.be/j7fpouzMSsk also jOdin is another desktop tool to use. jOdin is a early stage online flashing tool with limited capabilities at this time.Beings its a online flashing tool. I would make sure to have a good internet connection or you could run into trouble im guessing. All in all I think its a good idea I just hope this project keeps going.

Verizon Galaxy Note 2

So i have never had so many problems with a phone, but this would be the first one a customer tried doing on their own.
So he downloaded the latest file from sammobile for his SCH-i605. he used odin to flash and was stuck in boot loop. I have tried many different methods to try and get his phone working. I have tried all of the alternate method files to no avail. the current file i have flashed is the VRAMC3 restore out of all the files i have tried this is 1 of very few that make it through the write. All the others fail on sboot. It currently sits on the unauthorized verizon blah blah blah. Its had no recovery since he brought it over and havent been able to get recovery back. All i have access to is download mode, some firmwares give me the kies screen talking about an error but cant get it seen in kies versions 2 and 3.
If you need any other info just ask, if i know the answer i will give it. He has no clue as to what OS he was on or even what the ROM that was on there.

If the person tried to ODIN flash the latest firmware version for the SCH-I605, then it would have been VRUFND7 4.4.2 Kit Kat. (Unfortunately... once you install 4.3 or 4.4.2 on our Note 2's, both of those firmwares lock the bootloader with no current do it yourself method to unlock it. You can't successfully flash a prior Android version onto the phone after you upgrade past 4.1.2 either because of the locked bootloader).
Check out Droidstyle's Restore Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181. You will probably need to flash the pit file with the firmware to get it to Odin flash successfully. You can grab the SCH-I605 16gb Pit file from the guide.
Even though Droidstyle's guide is a little old, it is still the same steps for restoring to 4.4.2, so if you follow the guide (section 1b), it should help you fix the phone.
He doesn't have a link for the 4.4.2 firmware, but you can grab it from Sammobile. It looks like the Sammobile site is currently down for maintenance, but the link is here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/30950/I605VRUFND7_I605VZWFND7_VZW.zip/
If you're using an older ODIN, then I would probably try to use a newer Odin version like 3.0.9 or 3.10.0. Make sure you run it with Administrative privileges and disable antivirus programs.
Good luck!

Ive tried that one as well and almost all the files in that thread. When he flashed the 4.4.2 firmware the phone wouldnt boot all it did was flash the Note 2 screen. Ive used the pit file as well with no luck. Using the top file on the link fails almost instantly, VRAMC3 writes and passes but will not boot, shows the unauthorized firmware screen.
I'm wondering if he flashed a firmware onto the phone that was from a different carrier like ATT or something. If so, he may have messed up the phone so bad that it might need jtag to repair it.
You've probably already tried all the normal Odin tips like using a different usb cable, different ports on the computer (usb 2.0 port is recommended), etc... so I won't go over all those.
I've never tried it and don't know if I'd recommend it, but I recall reading some threads a while back where someone discussed trying the Nand Erase function in Odin.... (again.... I'm not saying to do that... but you may want to research it to see if it might be an option if nothing else works).
I've also read where people say that they've used Cygwin to create custom tar files... then they ODIN installed each of the separate partition files (e.g. recovery, boot, modem, system, etc...), onto their Samsung device.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to offer guidance with Cygwin and I'm not sure if either of these ideas would work, but I just thought I'd throw them out there for the sake of brainstorming for ideas. Maybe someone will respond to your request who has more knowledge and ideas.
I wish you luck with getting it fixed.

[Firmware Needed] Galaxy S4 SCH-I545PP (Verizon Prepaid)

I'm in search of firmware for the S4 running 4.3 or 4.4. I haven't gotten this phone yet but verizon is selling it through Walmart on prepaid. I know the firmware isn't gonna be the same as if it was on contract verizon. I have the S3 right now and it's prepaid. Many argued that there wasn't a NF5 firmware but turns out there is and i used it many times to fix soft bricks on the S3 using Odin. So I'm pretty sure the prepaid side of the S4 will have different firmware then one on contract verizon would have. So that being said, does anyone have 4.3,4.4 or even 5.0 firmware they can share that will work with Odin? Not sure if the S4 got the 5.0 update. Just assuming it did. Any help is appreciated!
Anyone? Please?
If no one can then someone at least tell me how it direct me to where I can make a tar or md5 firmware out of adb pulls of the system an stuff?

OK never mind. I need 5.0.1 firmware. Not 4.3 or 4.4. Any help would be great
I can't think of any reason as to why post paid firmware would be different than prepaid. You can use the phone for either.
And you're posting jn the wrong forum, which is probably why nobody is helping you. Because you didn't bother to read the rules before posting.
Try the general section or Android development section. Click the search button and type firmware. I'm sure you'll find it faster than it took you to make all these posts. Good luck
still no help

I think what sob372 was saying is the hardware in the phone is the same as the contract so you can just follow the SCH-I545 stuff and it will work.
being that I just got this same phone S4 prepaid used I'll be playing with it to root it, install safestrap and probably downgrade it from Lollipop to Kitkat. So I'll let you know if you don't find more here by searching and I'm sure there are relevant posts if you dig around a bit.
BTW the S4 PP does have a SIM slot.

It just seems really sketchy to do with the contract firmware. Like I get the feeling that if I flash the firmware from contract, I'll lose any cell phone service under prepaid. I just don't want to end up with a big paper weight. The modules could be different. With the S3 I had which was prepaid also. I used safestrap and superlite rom was the best one I got to work with the prepaid version. The system always kept crashing but it would load if I put it under stock an not a rom slot. I had to get the i535pp module to fix the Wi-Fi problem but if I had no service cause of the sim issue then I didn't want it. Also I'm not sure but I think there is no safe strap for the s4 running lollipop. I believe the forum said it would cause bootloops if you tried. Just like you need to deodex for xposed cause of the changes in art

If you can confirm all is in working order with the contract firmware (can't remember what the build is) with the prepaid phone, I'll give it a go.
Update
A member already tried the OC1 postpaid firmware on the prepaid. They said all works but the camera and charging don't work. So that's out of the question
I been looking around on the net and best I've come up with is backing up the firmware. I tried using flash fire to get back ups of every partition. Then I used Odin package creator to try an make a firmware file to use with Odin but when I tried it out in Odin, it stopped at data so I took out my personal data then it stopped at something with number 3 at the end. Can't recall what it was. So if anyone can test more on this to have any luck. Maybe then we can get the firmware out to people in case sammobile decides not to or takes another year to release it
I've been trying a different approach to getting a copy of the OH7 firmware. I've been attempting to use Fiddler4 + the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant tool that comes on my phone (Verizon Prepaid Galaxy S4 model SCHI-545KPP) to get a download link to the original rom file... I can't get the bloody link to download with Fiddler or an internet browser, as i get a 403 forbidden error. I'll keep trying, maybe I can find the downloaded file in my temp files while attempting to recover my phone? It will take some time but I'll keep trying.
*update* So I located where the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant stores its files (compressed and extracted). The location is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Verizon_AR .
I unfortionally didn't figure this out until after I royally soft bricked my phone. Right now I have a OF1 recovery installed on the phone, and the assistant keeps trying to install the OF1 firmware (and it fails). If anyone could check that folder for the OH7 firmware, or post a backup of the OH7 recovery, you'd be doing me a huge favor. I think we'll have the OH7 firmware after this one way or another.
*edit* This is 100% confirmed now. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Verizon_AR\SCH-I545_I545VRUGOF1_FACTORY\decrypt produced a zip file that is 100% identical to the OF1 firmware zips out there. This decrypt subfolder didn't appear until after the file was completely downloaded, and the Software Repair Assistant had started to try and flash the rom. This data is deleted after the phone completes flashing (or fails to flash). If you select "delete" after this information is downloaded, the encypted rom file is deleted and you must start all over again.
If someone could check that folder who has used the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant to recover their phone, using the tool on your phone again and you'll get the decrypt folder... if you zip/rar that folder, we'll finally have the backup files we can post somewhere.
the PP phone uses the same firmware as the normal one that guy that tried it
did something wrong
just flash the OF1 tar via odin and be done with it

I'm trying out your idea. If i can get the file them I'll upload it. If not, I'll still be able to at least send you a back up of the oh7 recovery. Mines all still stock. Maybe just cause its downloading at the moment. I'll just wait an see an I'll let you know

Yes, while it is downloading it will be a .enc4 file. Even after downloading it will stay like that, but when you got to actually flash the file, it will decrypt and the encrypted version will appear in that /decrypt folder.

so im confused. do i need the encrypted or decrypted file for it to work with odin? i tried changing the file to zip format and open it with winrar after it downloaded in the software but it came up as an unknown archive or damaged. so im not sure what im doing wrong but ill keep trying
UPDATE: i have tried getting the file through verizons handy tool and i did get the decrypted folder along with the unzip folder during it was finishing up repairing my s4. i just copied the file from the decrypted folder and extracted it during the repair. so now im using odin 3.10.7 and testing it out now to see if it will flash successfully. if all goes well, i will make new thread with the firmware link inside it so users dont need to scroll through pages to find the link. first anyone know a good or popular upload storage i can use to upload the firmware to for others to use? i tried uploading onto here but i keep getting a connection timeout
UPDATE 2: ive got it! i made the firmware of OH7! finally. you can go ahead and head over to this thread TheXev. use it and youll be back to stock

Thank you so much. I was close to taking this phone back and not getting another simply because I really need a phone to replace my S3 for tethering soon. But if you got the firmware, I can flash it back to working order, and hopefully get some deodexed roms (that way I can install Xposed framework). Thanks again!
