Differences between F900F and F900U - Samsung Galaxy Fold Guides, News, & Discussion

Are there any physical differences between the 900F and 900U devices? I know historically F meant it was Exynos and U was Snapdragon. Didn't find any references of Exynos.
If so, you could theoretically crossflash 900U to 900F? Just curious.

Upgrading from S4 Mini, and stability

I recently smashed up my S4 Mini. I was going to repair it, but it seems for not much more cost I could get an S5 Mini or Alpha.
I have been happy running CyanogenMod 11 for several years now; very stable. Reading here, looks like I might not get the same stability from S5 Mini or Alpha though -- given the choice, should I upgrade or stay with the S4 Mini?
Small screen and changeable battery are important to me, as is running a fairly 'open' ROM with PrivacyGuard and some other features I got from CyanogenMod 11. Nothing too experimental though, as I still need to reliably use the phone day-to-day for work etc.
Thanks -- Mark
Alpha has far more better hardware specification (both exynos and qualcom variants) than S5 Mini. I'm using Alpha with exynos and it's a really solid phone but Cyanogen based ROMs aren't working good enough for me to use them day-to-day, in the other hand firmware based ROMs like EpsilRom are working great so if you can live with it than it's worth taking. As far as I know Snapdragon version has no problem with Cyanogenmod but I heard that its CPU is not as fast as exynos one (but it's still the same chip that is in S5). Exynos variant is G850F and Snapdagon is G850W. The only advantages for S5 Mini for me are that it's waterproof and it has micro SD card slot.
Thanks -- very useful.
Can you tell me more of what you mean by "firmware based ROM"? I'm guessing you might mean they are modified versions of the stock ROM, rather than being a compile from source code?
I'll need to look into this situation with variants Exynos vs. Qualcom variants, and which variants are the one on the second hand market here (I'm in the UK)

Yes I meant modified version of the stock ROM, I'm using this one right now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-alpha/development/rom-epsilrom-future-t3311333
Exynos variant is like default for Europe so it would be easier to get, and be carefull with these variants because there are few exynos versions(for example G850F and G850K) and few with snapdragon (G850W, G850A)
In theory if g850a was fully unlocked, this forum would be very active :/
Both @kyasu and @modpunk develop LOS 13/14.1.
Definitely if you are choosing from s5mini and ALPHA. Then ALPHA. The S5 mini is compared to Alpha very ****ty build. Plasticky and etc .. Alpha si more premium feel. And performance.

Mido 3GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB Version

Guys, I've a few questions for those who know both.
1) Do they have physical differences?
2) Do custom roms meant for the 3/32 version also work on the 4/64 version?

1. Dunno exactly.
2. Yeah, Storage / RAM doesn't really matters, snapdragon Roms works on all variants of Redmi Note 4/X (Snapdragon only)
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using Tapatalk
As far as I understand it, there are two models. One with Snapdragon (Codename: mido) and one with Mediatek (Codename: nikel). And they have slightly physical difference (I think one is 1mm longer or something and sensors have different places). Storage and RAM should not matter, only look what processor you have.

Importig Galxy S9+ and a few questions

I live in the UK and I want to import the Galaxy S9+ mainly because its £250 cheaper ($350) and because it has the Snapdragon 845. I actually like emulating GameCube games and PS2 and the Mali G72 sucks even compared to the Adreno 540 and obviously the Adreno 630 will be better. My questions are:
1. Does the Snapdragon variant see any developments, how was if for the S8+?
2. I will be getting imoerting a HK model so can the bootloader be unlocked.
3. Can I flash a non branded UK firmware on it?
4. Any support for Project Treble on SD 845 variant?
5. Any difference of the camera quality? I read a random comment somewhere the Exynos takes better phots?
6. I guess I wont be covered by Samsung UK for warranty?
Thanks
Really need some help guys
1. not really much, Exynos got best development
2. NO
3. May be Yes, but i doubt, risk is upon you. remember to download office snapdragon firmware first in case of anything bad
4. it doesn't depend on version. it is same fo both Exynos and snapdragon
5. NO, same hardware, it could a misinterpretation. Exynos processor is little bit better than snapdragon in benchmarks but as far as i know it has minimum to no effect on camera quality
6.NO
You should be able to unlock the G9650 bootloader for Chinese variant. See this thread for S8 with more info on this topic:
3 more questions:
Does Google camera work on SD 845 variant
To use Project Treble, does the bootloader need unlocking?
Doesn't the SD variant get bootloader unlocking officially a few months later or never based on how it was for S8
Google camera app may work with SD845 but in my experience in the past, the native app worked the best. USA SD variant doesn't get bootloader unlock ever unfortunately... Engineering bootloader may get leaked at some point(for limited root access) but historically, the Engineering bootloader has had issues like battery charging only up to 80% and phone overheating etc.

Not in this universe. Seriously, Snapdragon version is a lot better than Exynos version. More performance, more efficiency, possibility to have porting of common apps like Google Camera. It's a shame that Samsung is selling us premium smartphones of class "A" and class "B". In Europe we can only buy Exynos versions, we pay them the same of Snapdragon versions and we have less things. It's just a shame.

No, if you root the phone exynos is better.
An unlocked S9 withe exynos 9810 is better than an snapdragon 855 (s10)

Yes and you lose everything. No Knox, no bank's services, no S Health. Definitely not convenient.

Exectly how is it better by simply unlocking the bootloader and rooting? By doing what though?
The snapdragon variants don't need to be rooted to get there full potential they're just there, plus we will lose the function of some apps if we root, camera quality is also better on the 855 because of the processor, so by rooting my exynos how does it make it better?

I'm sorry dude but you are totally wrong ! Exynos is shame compared to Snapdragon : perfs are lower, battery is worse, phone heats as hell... Definitely not a good variant of Samsung flagships ! Btw, in 2020, rooting is not as useful as when Samsung Experience / TouchWiz was running on Samsung phones... One UI has improved a lot over those old Samsung softwares, and that made root simply useless nowadays (my opinion)

Logic board swap (G965U1 to G965F) possible?

Hey XDA, made the choice to buy an S9 Plus, amazing phone, love the hardware but a bit sad that I ended up with the Snapdragon based G965U1 model.
I wanted to know if it's possible to swap the logic board directly for one that has the Exynos chipset?
Any help appreciated kindly!
