Looking for a reliable app (or a fix for Skype/Discord) that allows calls 24/7 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for an app (or a fix for Skype/Discord) that will allow someone to call me whenever they want. I know this is a little vague, and I have already tried asking on the appropriate forums for Skype and Discord for help but they are not willing to help.
The issue I am having is that calls from Skype/Discord do not always 'ring' my device, sometimes I look at my phone after the screen being turned off for a few hours and see notifications that someone has called me through one of these apps. I can't tell if it's because of some Android update that protects apps (or sleeps them) after a while, but it is quite annoying that I miss calls from my favourite chatting apps.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

[App] Root Call Blocker needs SE testers

Hello guys, im the developer of Root Call Blocker, an advanced call and SMS blocking app for rooted phones.
The app's home is here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
We have had multiple reports that blocking is not working sometimes on SE phones, so we need some nice people to do some testing.
You can use the Groups function of the Lite version to do the testing - it gives you almost everything youd want from the app anyway.
Please post comments here, but also use the "Write to us" dialog in settings.
Come on xda people! I really need some feedback please...
Ok. Let's try it. ;-)
Well, when adding phone in black list, Name fild is out of screen. Incoming calls fully blocked, without half ring. I continue testing ...

Yep... thats a known issue on very small screens...
I think it was fixed, no?
Enjoy... and remember, an update is always just around the corner!
Could you guys please test the following behavior for me:
1. How the app behaves when a blocked number attempts to connect during call waiting
2. How a blocked caller is handled when "Dont answer" is set as the reject method and you are currently on the phone and have not enabled blocked call vibrate notifications within the app itself
Dont forget to send logs with descriptions as well.
Come on people, i really need some feedback on this!
Nothing to report then?
Nothing here - its working perfectly!
Anyone having trouble at this resolution?
Any problems to report?
Guys hows that dialog scroller?
Guys, an update has been rolled out. It contains an important new workaround thast needs to be tested.
It may help those people who have data issues, especially on LTE enabled phones sometimes.
Please help me test this by installing the app, rebooting and waiting for data to return with the screen on. Please wait 3 minutes at least before sending logs via "Write to developer" in the app.
Dont forget to include a description. Thanks!
Working perfectly for me! Thanks, this is absolutely top class.
Do data issues then?
Any issues to report?
Is anyone seeing an issue with notifications?
Also, do you guys have any problems understanding how to block hidden numbers?
Thanks in advance!
Any issues or suggestions?
let me try it

[Q] How to remove phone call capibilities

I've been lurking in the shadows on this forum for awhile now, I've rooted multiple phones, customized roms, and just recently made a successful aosp rom.
also just saw my post count so want to say thanks to the countless guides on this site.
That being said on to the project at hand.
My next project I want to take out anything that is only for making phone calls since I use SIP for all my calls. I've been doing a little experimenting removing apps and such (Thank you titanium backup), but wanted to see if anyone else had any luck trying this before I just repeated someone elses work.
I'm going to be doing this with a ported version of cyanogenmod (IHO for LG Optimus V) but I figure it will be close for all phones
I tried simply removing the phone app and got force closes like crazy.
So I guess my questions are
Has anyone attempted this before?
How far did you get and what did you find out?
Do tablets already have this removed? this would provide a good example to start but from what I can tell they still have these functions just turned off (wasting space), feel free to correct me if I'm wrong I wasn't able to find much on that since I don't own one.
Any good guide on modifying apps? I've seen a few here and there but didn't really get to far with it (not that I gave it enough time to be honest).
I'm just trying to find a good starting point for this since it's a little more in depth then most of my projcets
I removed all phone stuff before. What I did was when it fc, I pulled battery and it would not fc anymore. Then i would continue to remove the rest. Hope this works!
Please hit the thank you button if i helped!
When i uninstalled the phone.apk, it give me related fc which not even allowed me to switch it off.I had to pull out the battery to stop the menace and wheni restarted all the network range was gone and airplane mode was also not working.
Sooooo,i guess it's the one you're looking for
Hit thx if I helped you a bit

I'll give it another go when I get to a charger that was also on froyo so maybe gingerbread will react different

very helpful
This worked, except I still need my data, I didn't make it a very strong point but I have an unlimited data plan so basically i'm coming at this from a battery and space side of things, I don't need the ability to make calls or have my phone sitting there waiting for calls but I do need my data so my SIP app can send and receive calls and i can text with google voice.
This is why i figured I'd have to get into the source editing.

[Q] Question regarding posting app that hides WhatsApp Last seen

Hi everyone
I have a question regarding posting an app which would hide Last seen at on WhatsApp.
This isn't modification of existing app or anything. All it does is, when you open the app, it disables wifi and data, waits for the internet to disconnect and opens WhatsApp.
After you are done sending messages in WhatsApp, you need to press back button to reach to my app and it would check that you closed WhatsApp and will enable wifi and data and quits automatically.
I'm not sure if this is considered as hacking or any kind of unofficial method to do.
Please let me know and I can post it.
I know that there are many apps that are available to do this. But they are either paid or they require tapping a button. Just want to distribute so that people can get use of it.
Let me know if there is a MOD or someone that I can check with.
Thanks,
Hangoverr (sorry I don't drink )

Is it possible to do this in Whatsapp ?

Hello, first of all I wanna mention that I'm a beginner with Android and stuff, I know how to root and use Xposed Framework and a few other things, but I'm definitely no expert. And that's why, after I've been doing some research but failed to find what I needed, I decided to ask the experts here. So here goes : I need to find a way to block someone in Whatsapp without them appearing as blocked on my device. Practically to cut off all incoming (and outcoming, if possible) messages or calls from that person, but without them appearing as blocked in Whatsapp, in Contact - Settings - More - Block/Unblock. Plain and simple, I need to cut off any comunication between my Whatsapp account and his, just like in the normal blocking, only that I don't want this to show on my Whatsapp in any way, I need to make it look like he's not blocked but just not answering, like in the case of normal blocking. It doesn't matter if there's a third party app that does this, or some Whatsapp tweaks, or whatever method, as long as it can do it. The device is a Huawei Y 635, running Android 4.4.4. KitKat, rooted. I am grateful to hear any idea about how something like this can be done. If it can be done. So, thank you in advance for your time, and I am waiting your answers.
Anyone? Please, I really need this. If I posted in the wrong section, my apologies and hope I can have the thread moved in the right place. Thank you, and still waiting for answers in the matter described above.

A fire alert application

I'm a volunteer firefighter from Europe. We get notified about various events, where we're needed, over SMS messages, which get overlooked by some members, especially in the evenings. We are looking for an app, that would basically use the received sms message as a trigger, for the phone to start flashing, vibrating, ringing on full volume, until turned off. In the past we've used FireAlert2, which worked perfectly, but unfortunately wasn't updated for quite some time now, so it's not properly working on all phones.
I created a simillar post on Reddit already, but didn't get many replies. There were two nice recommendations so far:
- Tasker (paid)
-Macrodroid (started looking into it yesterday and already played around with some macros)
Was wondering if there's anyting else out there, since this forum is more specific about this theme.
Thank you!
@Timmmmaaahh! Sir, are you using something like this in your Belgian fire brigade?
Thanks for the mention, @Oswald Boelcke

Hey RunoTheDog
I'm a volunteer firefighter in Belgium. Our alerting is done via SMS but also with the Verdi system, which is a commercial solution for first responders. Of course, this is government funded. We all have a loud alert set to that application and allow it to break DND. Before we had this (and also relied on just SMS on our phones) I just had loud alerts set for just the emergency numbers from our department. I've always used Textra but I'm sure other SMS apps have the same feature. We've also always had separate Swissphone pagers so we rarely miss an alert.
Cheers
Timmy
Thank you @Timmmmaaahh!
