So I broke my screen a few weeks ago and had a brand new screen replacement sent in. This is my 2nd screen replacement on this phone so I know how to disassemble and reassemble the display.
However when I reconnected the display, I turn on my phone and I just get a black screen (while the LCD is powered). It will boot into Android as I can hear my messages coming in. The bottom screen navigation buttons also turn on.
If I peek under the screen it looks like the back light flashes on and off a few times before staying off.
I would love some help on this issue. Any information is welcomed. Thanks.
Heyyo, tbh I was helping a user with the same issue and after trying many things even QFIL? The problem was the replacement screen is defective. He could swap back the old display and it worked (albeit it was cracked) and the new display only the backlight would power on but fail to display anything.
I'd recommend returning that replacement screen as soon as possible and get another screen.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I tried the qfil thing and it seems to have a display now but half of the screen is on the left and half of the screen is on the right.
Heyyo, cool! That's lucky in your case that QFIL actually got the display working.
Ok, to fix the split-screen display issue? You must next flash the official build of EUI ROM 14s. It can be found in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/le-max-2-official-stock-firmware-links-t3433761
Afterwards? I'd recommend flashing a newer EUI ROM once your display is fixed, something like 19s or higher before formatting data and wiping your device and switching back to a custom ROM.
Awesome, I will try out 14s and report back. I tried 16s, 20s, and 26s which all seemed to fail. Hope this will do the trick!
I've been trying to guess what the actual issue is and I'm so happy it's not hardware related to the connector or something like that. Just a guess but was it software driver related? Is it possible this screen replacement is from the 1st gen of screens that went out and that's why it requires 14s where as newer screen replacements possibly use 16+ and up? In any case, this issue seems pretty rare to x820 users.
Where did you buy the screen? Under normal circumstances, there are practices to try on the machine, do not be too anxious to install, test if there is a problem to take a video or take photos to the seller's customer service staff to solve, in most cases in China, and many of the screen is not original, The best is to disassemble the machine, hope to help you:D:D

Hey, I flashed 14s and the flash worked but I still have the screen cut in half with the left side of the screen on the right side and visa versa.
I had to flash with "Zip Flasher" tool since the touch digitizer doesn't work in TWRP with the screen swapped as it is. Any other ideas?

Heyyo @quatchis, hmm unfortunately the QFIL then wipe everything and format data then flash 14s is the only fix that I know of... I'll try to ask around if anyone knows of another fix for split screen bug...

Thanks for the help. Yeah, I tried the QFIL then flashing 14s while wiping all the data/dalvak/cache. Also tried multiple successions using TWRP 3.0.2, 3.3.1 and TWRP 5.8 TeaMSpaiN.
I'm thinking I might just toss the phone at this point since I've bought 2 new screens both which didn't work. I don't think its worth more investment which is hard for me to say. I even had bloody Linux booted up on this bad boy at one point.
This was my favorite phone I have ever purchased and it was worth every last penny. Do you know of any new snapdragon phones that will give me 3 great years of performance. I was even considering a new LeEco phone but have not done any research outside of the LeMax x829.
Heyyo, If my x2 were to die and same with my nash? tbh I'd recommend looking at anything Xiaomi related or other flagship killers like the stuff RealMe have as well. They offer the best price to performance and they are great for kernel source releases and custom ROM communities. I know on Black Friday/Cyber Mondays there was some great deals on stuff like the Poco F1... But meow? Tbh I'm unsure what kind of deals are out there sorry...
Otherwise? There are other brands out there that offer great devices for darn cheap.
For TWRP though? I'd recommend either the latest official (and ignore the failed to mount vendor errors in logs since vendor partition only gets created on treble ROMs) or TWRP official 3.1.0-0. I wouldn't bother with the other TWRP builds.
But just to check, after QFIL it should be...
reboot to fastboot
fastboot flash twrp-3.3.1-0-x2.img
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-x2.img
Wipe > dalvik, cache, system
Wipe > "format data" button > type "yes" > keyboard checkbox
reboot to recovery
Copy EUI ROM 14s to device
Install EUI ROM 14s
Reboot to system

My screen seems to have a weird issue. I don't know when this started, there is a faint white line that runs around the edge of the screen (about 2 mm in from the edge) it's in almost a perfect square on the screen but with rounded corners.
I can't see the white line when the screen is black or very dark, it only shows up in the lighter colour range.
This is one of those things that's really bugging me once I've noticed it. It's ruining the aesthetic of my screen!
I have alien build 3 on my phone, unlocked obviously. Is there any chance this is a software issue? I really hope I don't have to try and use my warranty (got the phone off ebay)
any help/comments/questions would be appreciated. thanks guys.
anybody? 10char
I havent noticed anything like that on my atrix, but I can relate. Recently ive noticed a 1 mm blotch of pixels that seem to be brighter than the others when viewing the screen at any angle other than 90 degrees (not stuck or dead, just seem to project all colors a bit brighter). Its being destroying my peace of mind ever since.
that seems like a hardware issue to me, possibly correlated with this error.
first, i'd try to make a backup of your phone and then attempt to flash one of the fruitcake stock ROMS, see if you still have the problem there. if it's gone, then we know it's a software issue.
also, someone correct me if i'm wrong here, but doesn't our screen illuminate itself from the edges, instead of having a backlight like LED screens? you could try adjusting your brightness settings and see if you can get a workaround going with that.

no, i haven't, but like i said you should make a backup and revert your phone back to stock everything, and see if the error is still there. if it is, we know it's hardware and not software related. and if that's the case, then it might be as easy as replacing your screen. i'm not too savvy with the hardware side of the Atrix, so i'm not too sure what it is that illuminates our screen.
sorry im terrible at this, but whats the best way to make a backup so that i keep all my apps etc...?

well, i'm guessing you have CWM installed since you have a ROM installed. i'd suggest making sure you have Romracer's CWM, which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
after you install that, proceed to boot into recovery mode and create a backup. the process is (Boot into recovery > backup and restore)
after that, install the 2.3.4 Fruitcake which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
remember, before installing the fruitcake you're gonna want to wipe your data, cache, and dalvik! after you have all that installed, see if you still have the screen error and report back to us
Actually, Im on stock froyo 2.2.2 on bell... but thanks for helping me!

thank you, this is exactly the issue i'm having. except mine is very very close to the edge so it's not as noticeable.
if i bought the atrix online. do i have any warranty options? it's unlocked and got it off ebay.
the issue wasn't there initially, it seems to have developed over a few months.
To keep things simple, I had a cracked screen on the Ultra which was replaced last week. However now the phone screen is slow and unresponsive after about a minute of use (fast & like new after right turning on however).
Ive tried the mod tweak found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522657
As well as the thermal screen calibration here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470070
There is no change with either mode. Cleaning with alcohol only works for a few minutes, and yes Ive removed the ASF for no change.
It should be noted that when booted at first minute or two, the touch inferface is quick and brilliant. After a minute or so it gets slower and remains so. Typing a text is a gruelling affair at that point,
Ran 4.3 android and updated to 4.4.4 and also no change in performance.
Does anyone have any ideas/ tips or pointers?
HELP!?!
An app with a memory leak?
Looks quite normal. RAM 1.1GB used; 600MB free.
Unless thats not what were talking about?
EDIT: might be up to something. using advanced kill on Go taskmanager EX and its seemed to do improve the situation in the short term. Will keep testing
Well got about that far thus far. The advanced kill works sometimes, but none of the apps look out of whack (from my basic knowledge anyhow)
Any help/ links in diagnosing a memory leak would be very appreciated.
Don't suppose you've got the Google now launcher? I had to uninstall as they introduced a memory leak in the last update.
Un updated it just in case.
Its tough as even watchdog lite isint detecting much. com.google.android.gms:snet at startup took 22% CPu but otherwise its steady.
Grr jezz I even did a factory reset to 4.4.4 and its still there. Would trying a custom rom help?
Well as an update manage to completely wipe and reinstall the OS. No change in performance however
Does anyone know if a faulty screen install could be to blame for this?

Could well be, but i find it strange that it acts normal again after a reboot? That alone indicates that it's something wrong with the software. I still hold a finger on a process gone wild. Do you have Recovery installed? If yes, re-flash the ROM or flash something else and see if that solves it. I would personally flash a stock ROM and flash it with Flashtool so you don't have to root or void any warranties, and it'll be the simplest thing to do in case the screen is still acting weird after flash, and you want to get it checked out again (since it most certainly will be a hardware issue at that point).
So, fire up Flashtool, download a complete stock ROM (TFT), flash it, test it. Is it working fine now? Sweet. Keep using the ROM. Is it still the same thing? Contact the repair center again and tell them what's up and please do tell them that you've already done a factory reset, since that's the first thing they'll do themselves. Do not tell them about Flashtool or any other hacks or tweaks. They'll probably blame you if they think that you're an XDA user. "Oh, so you've been playing with it, and you bricked it and wanna fix it for free, bla bla".
Ask if they can open the device again and check that everything is fine and that you haven't received a faulty panel.
Ive actually did a complete tft flash of the original xperia ultra software. No change whatsoever vs previous state.
Im increasingly suspecting a hardware issue. Could it be a poorly plugged in cable? Its random chugging/ smooth response is completely confusing...

Did you flash the exact same FTF that you've always used, or did you flash one from a different region? I would try the GPe ROM if i were you, just to be sure, but don't bother doing it if you're not rooted and ready to flash. Yes it can easily be a hardware issue, and you should probably contact Sony or your nearest service center.
As an update I tried installing a fresh tft flash of a different build but same issue.
Notably noticed that the notification light on the screen is not working at all, so currently looks like a hardware issue. Will keep updated for reference & visit a repair centre
I got a new Elephone S8 about a week ago, and it's having a glitch that's happened 3 different times. The touch screen becomes unresponsive for around 20 minutes, and after restarting it will work again but it always says the battery is at 1% when it had a full charge before the issue happened. Has anybody else encountered this? I'm terrified that one time the touch screen won't come back. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, but some type of glitch. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Elephone S8 touch screen stop working
I have the same problem, I even managed to put ERAGON ROM and again the same thing, the screen just stops working, I even think it has no rules when it will work, and when it does not.
Not here. It seems to me that some folks got units with flaky digitisers. If it were just firmware, I suspect everyone would have the issue.
To share experience with the problem, touch screen stops working!
I returned via Flash Tool to 01701018 release official and then> flash root> flash twrp. Then I installed "magisk manager 16" and for now the cellular phone works for 2 days, since it will not have a SIM card while testing the touch screen lock. I will let you know guys...
That's what I'm planning on doing today: returning my phone to original rom. Has it happened anymore since you downgraded?

If that's the case, I would need to replace the entire screen, correct? A new one is $50, and I only paid $175 for the new phone! I just don't know if that's worth it

In my case, even the SIM card has no connection to the effect of locking the touch screen of a cell phone, it is always the same problem. The screen simply does not work when it does not work. "It seems to me that some people get units with dirty digitizers?" I have no idea...
Hardware defects should be covered under the phone's warranty... And if it's soon enough after purchase, by the shop where you bought the phone.
Best of luck to you!
Hey everyone, so my wife has the Poco F1 and broke the screen after just 2 weeks. I bought a replacement screen and front housing from aliexpress and got it yesterday. I tried changing the screen last night and almost everything sent fine. Turn the phone on and the display works but does not recognize any touch input.
I re-open the phone and disconnect and re-connect the display flex cable a few times all with same result.
I'm thinking probably a bad screen replacement but just wanted to see if anyone have any suggestions

Why would you try and fix it yourself when you have the warranty with you? Xiaomi can fix your phone. Maybe there's service charge (new screen replacement, labour, new warranty I guess).

I live in South America. there are no service center in my country. Bought off amazon. not sure how warranty would work if at all it applied to my case.
Bought it off US amazon using a package forwarding service that had it shipped to a address in US when they receive it for me and then re-ship it to my country where i pickup from them.
Pretty sure warranty would be almost impossible to claim

Sorry to hear that.
Alright there must be something you forgot.
Watch JerryRigsEverything's video in teardown of Pocophone. There must be something you forgot to connect with.
I am 99% sure that you missed something. I will replace a Redmi Note 4 screen tomorrow (similar hard work I think).
I recommend to disassembe and re-assemble again before you report and ask for a full refund or a re-send.
You should record that all cable in place and screen not functional if it's still a problem after you remove and reassemble to use as eveidnce for full refund.
Of course in this case ask them to send a tested one before you report. They will I am sure.
thanks for the advice. I do intend to do a full disassembly and try again.
I hope it did forget something during assembly but it's just one flex cable and i disconnect and re-connect multiple times. I also did watch a screen repair guide on youtube before i started and i took pics of everything as i go.
In the end in was forced to re-install the old cracked screen as my wife needed the phone. with the cracked screen the touch works. so it's weird that i would forget something with the replacement screen but not when putting back on the old screen

Usually it is an issue with the drivers. The cheap Aliexpress screens have this issue on some phones.
By the way, which ROM are you using? Sometimes these screens work with stock ROM but not with custom ROMs. So you can also try a few versions of the stock ROM and see whether the issue resolves.
Mine kinda died yesterday, after resetting the phone I got stucked inside twrp, not recognizing any touches. Then I flashed fastboot rom, touch still doesn't work. Did you get yours fixed? How?

Hey mate. could you help me out with this?
I installed new screen. I bought it years ago, but only now i got to do it. Anyways. No touch Screen seems to work fine otherwise. You mentioned about installing new TWRP to fix it? I've downloaded Platform-tools, ADB drives, looking for Magisk now ... Is this the right TWRP file > me.twrp.twrpapp-26.apk or > twrp-3.3.0-0-beryllium.img this one? How it is done from PC?
Ok, so i got pattern unlock. Connecting my mouse via OTG works, BUT i can not enter this pattern. I just cant get the line started. (OTG with same mouse works well in Galaxy S10, doing pattern unlock).
Looks like i have my debugging on, but boot loader is locked and because i cant get into menu, so i can not accept connections or change anything. What are my options here guys??
ADB shows what my device is unauthorised, but i can copy files and **** in windows.
Update.
I've done factory reset, unlocked the phone (bootloader). USB debugging he whole lot. Flashed latest 3.3.0.0 twrp and it did not fixed the touch issue, but i found out what screen registers a lot of touches. Like i click on everything like crazy. Will try to take the screen off completely tomorrow. See if i can use new screen with old PCB (from old broken screen). I bet i am going to brake it and end up with ordering new screen
Update 2.
It is impossible to split LCD screen from its PCB. In the process of taking off new screen, even tho i've done it super careful and screen looks mint, it does not turn on (just stays black). Visually no damage. I wander if i could overheat it while removing. But it looks intact.
Ordered new screen. Will update you later.
Well, eventually got a new screen. Got one dead pixel in it. But it is all glued in right now. So i don't know if i bother to change. It doesn't bother me, cant really see it most of the time.

Hi my pocophone f1 motherboard packed in, so I got a replacement from aliexpress, I got someone to fit it for me, the reviews for the board I got were quite good, the only complaint was the front facing camera, was not working, I later on learned that the operating system had developed a bug, and Xiaomi were trying to fix it I hope my information is correct maybe you can clear this up?
So I was keeping in touch by text, with the guy fitting my new motherboard, and he said all was going well and the phone was updating, about 20 mins later he mentioned the problem with the camera, I replied that I had already read something about it, so he told me he had firmware to fix it, two days later he told me the phone was ready come pick it up, I asked if everything was all good he said yes, however he then proceeded to tell me that the phone wasn't booting properly and the only way to boot it up was to hold down the power key, and volume down at the same time, my first thought was I won't turn it off much, however then he said when it was booted the screen was constantly on, however he said i think you've been unlucky and got a bad motherboard and he would keep his eye out to get me a better one, so i payed him and took the phone.
Later that night something else really annoying was happening, the volume button would not stay up, and sure enough the screen was constantly on, which i thought i could live with, but it started to bug me and to get the volume working properly i had to hold the power button to turn it off, but there was no option for a reboot, or shut down, and when I turned it on it went straight to fastboot, for two days I sent complaints to aliexpress but I got nowhere, they said it was fully tested and my installation must have been wrong I totally disagreed.
However the more I thought about it, I was thinking that maybe something did go wrong when the guy was installing the firmware but I trusted him, and he had been helpful and I thought he was being truthful, so that's why I'm trying to reflash it now in the Hope it can maybe fix the problem, cause I feel I've nothing to lose now as the phone is pretty much useless stuck in fastboot, and for me to boot it I have to mess with the power and volume, and sometimes it boots in safe mode as well really annoying, can you help please is there a fix?

If that doesn't help, maybe u got a bad motherboard as you said or the guy didn't changed it correctly.

Thanks I'll give it a try, I also read somewhere that it has to have the (Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU), or else it won't flash properly, they said the boards are original, but just wondering if maybe they had a cheaper GPU or something, but I'm second guessing because the buyer I bought from had decent reviews and people got their phones working again.
