Does it have one? I sure hope so...
Yes it does.
default colour for notifications is green
Ive been able to set my whatsapp notifications to purple via whatsapp settings.
still looking for more customization options
Thanks, Great news! Where is it if I may ask. Have you seen any video's of it online. Been looking but can't find one.
Top left, in the bezel. right next to the light sensor.
Another question... Does this LED actually stay on or does it time out after 5 min like all my HTC devices?
It's a pretty good looking LED, I have the thunderbolt now and HTC put theirs inside the speaker grill.... terrible design.
It seems that HTC has deleted the old Sense desktop clock I had on my Dinc. I have tried several new clocks but they all have a backlight in the dim mode that is very bright in a dark room and I assume it also consumes a lot of battery.
Does anyone know a clock app that has a "black" screen, meaning not backlit, that also turns off the red LEDs. I have tried Desktop Plus, Alarm Clock plus, Clock Saver, etc.
I tried to find something like this as well and just ended up using the stock alarm clock and turning the screen on the phone off when I go to bed...
Look for Relax and Sleep in the market. I don't use it for an alarm but it has a nice desk clock mode. Doesn't seem too bright at night to me either.
Thanks for the input. I tried the app and it is still pretty light in the dark--again it is backlit. However, this app made me think about Lighting Bug which is similar (also a sound machine). I opened it and it has a number of clock mods you can do and it might be the darkest screen yet.
I use Locale with the shortcut plugin. I tell it to turn the brightness down to 20% when docked and it's after 9pm. I also have it launch the clock app. The combination works great.

I use Kaloer Clock and its awesome...tons of settings and its free. I have an orange led alarm clock with no backlight and 10% brightness.....works perfect and also has a screen saver setting to prevent burn in(although i dont know if burn in is really an issue on this phone..any thoughts?) Def check it out though
Interesting. So you guys are talking about being able to always see the time?
Yeah, might worry about burn in but that would be handy.
Thanks for this Kaloer Clock app. This one looks like a winner. It has the darkest screen, most settings, screen saver, and button lights out. Can't ask for more than that and it solves my problem.
Kaloer Clock Rocks

Thank for showing me this app. It has the darkest screen I've seen, a lot of custom settings, and is exactly what I was looking for. I put it on 1% dim, dark blue letters, no button lights, full screen, and keep screen on--it's a winner. It'll be sweet dreams tonight.

There's no burn in on LCD screens

Plus, the default clock app has the time show as a screensaver after a set amount of time.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for but I thought HTC had removed it. I just never waited long enough for it to take effect. Simple with the darkest screen. I do wish there was someway to activate it sooner but the screen is dark, time moves around the screen, and it turns off the buttons.
Thanks
I have found Gentle Alarm to work well. Was free a while back on Amazon's FAOTD. I use it on both my Touchpad and Rezound when we travel.

Well, I think they call it "image persistance" or something. I've seen it on LCD monitors at work. I work on software that has a constant image (not a pic, but the software layout stays in one place) on one of the monitors and while most of the icons did not have a burn in, if you were at the desktop you could see a distinct line across the screen where there was a separation of screen elements on that monitor. So when watching a quicktime on that monitor's desktop level you could see a horizontal line through it. I don't know why just that one line showed up since the icons are usually permanent (they can be changed but usually once someone programs their setting that's what they use). The only thing is those are clicked and the button changes when that happens so maybe that's why.
Anyway, I'll wait for reports back before I use one of these clocks with my phone.

That sounds good, I like that it moves on the screen. I can't find out how to activate it though. Where are the settings?
If you go to the HTC Desk Clock (not the dock) and just leave the screen open, in about 5 minutes the small night clock will automatically start and the button lights will go out. There are no settings that I am aware of.
Sadly, after trying night clock last night, it is backlit like all the rest. The backlight is very bright in a dark room IMO. I just got out my old Dinc, went to the Desk Clock, and it has a button toward the bottom of the screen that lets you activate the night clock. Also the background is absolutely black, not backlit.
Still trying to find that dark screen with clock!!!!!
Well I bought a new Neo v, its almost a month.
What I have noticed is the default color temperature is set slightly warmer. If you compare the phone to any other screen you will see white appears to have slight tint of yellow.
I am not the only one who has reported this, here is a link

Is there any way I can fix this? As a designer this is irritating.
Cheers.
You can try the disable auto brightness app [root], so you set the brightness higher. Black looks much better then. Maybe this works too, I haven't tried it.
I think it's a choice Sony made, to make the colours more natural, but less saturated.

Thanks,
Brightness had no effect but the app you attached really helped
Wondering if there is any permanent solution to this, app has an icon on top notification bar which is not very desirable

It was the first app I found, there will be at least 2 other apps that can do this. Also beware: Some of these screen filter apps have the effect that you can't click install when opening an apk file. Disable the app and it should work. Had a hard time with that
Is there a firmware solution to this problem?
Is it more of a screen defect or a firmware color temperature setting? If later then can I make changes to make it more natural. Yellow is kind of getting irritating now!
Those filters are no good for permanent solution.
i had your problem earlier when i bought my Neo,its like burn in my eyes...brightness already set to maximum but its not so maximum....not like what i want...so i change to custom rom,and there you go...brightness control just 1/2 of bar, enough for me and yellow, red, green colour not so burning...of coz its still there, its bravia engine and its acceptable...
sory for my english
Hmm well I compared my phone to another Neo V which was bought from India. Even at lower brightness White looks white but for me it looks little yellow.
As somebody mentioned its because my phone was manufactured for other region where they set the color temp little warmer. If there was a way to set to Neutral nothing like it
I upgraded to ICS thinking it will fix or reset it. But in vain.
In my opinion, it seems to be a hardware problem, I do not have to do with the software. Hopefully you fix ...
Hey all,
So, I have a dark-ish themed watch face. (Ranger). It even goes "glow in the dark" green after sunset. I usually have almost 50% of my battery when I get home to take it off. Is there a way to have the active watch face on all the time? Not a dark screen, not the "ambient" mode, but the actual face on? I can't seem to get that option on.
Also, since the Moto has the flash when it switches between active and ambient, are there any recommendations for a good watch face? I like Ranger as they look similar (not going from black to white, for example), just wondering if there are any that have a seamless (as we can get on the Moto) transition. I want mine to look more like a watch than a computer. Assuming I can't just leave the active display on all day.
Thanks!
I don't believe there is a way to leave the watch face active all the time. I could be wrong about that, but I think that's the case.
As far as watch faces go, try Emitter or Minimal & Elegant.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thaphlash.watch.emitter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stmp.minimalface
Both do a really nice job of hiding the flat tire and ambient mode looks just like the active watch face, just black background with white text. With Minimal & Elegant, if you make your active watch face a black background with white text, you will never notice the transition to ambient. Even without doing that they both transition between active and ambient really nicely. They're hands down my favorites.
Hope that helps.
Haven't tried it myself but this app should do the trick https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive

Appreciate the help!
Koko for AW. You can keep the screen on all day long. But be prepared for a 1% battery drop every 5 minutes ?

I guess will be nice if we discuss how to achieve some kind of notification on our displays without draining the battery. Smartwatch is good way to deal with it, but let's keep to the phone itself. Most wanted feature is to have recurrent notifications. I invested some time in trying some apps and these are my "5 cents":
- Always On Edge- this is the program I prefer to use so far and will explain why. It lights up the edges and could be set to be recurrent. With many settings about almost everything. Just don't forget to save the settings after changing things. It works most of the time, but it's a bit tricky- don't let the system to control it (to stop it)- you can do it from battery management. And from my experience- use the power button to turn off the screen (or just leave it to turn off). Using some additional programs (like JButton and Fluid gestures) activate more secure mode (could be wrong) and prevent the notification blinking. The good is that it's relatively battery friendly.
- LED Blinker Notifications - always working, nice customization. Shows colored circles on the screen in Awlays On Display manner. Can set different color for different app and random position (to avoid burn-in). The bad- spends a lots of power and the battery is going down fast. And is way pricier. I bought it anyway to test it, but probably will stay unused.
- Glimpse Notifications- works (almost) always. The problem is that will either light up your screen (drains battery, because wakes up the CPU) or makes a vibration or a sound. This could be annoying for everyone.
- integrated Always On Screen feature in our phones- works fine, shows icons with the notifications. Nice solution, but spends about 1% battery per hour (on my phone). This is the whole consumption of the phone of course, but I think that this is 1.5-2 times more than regular consumption. It's good solution anyway.
I use the following combination:
- Always On Display with clock + notification icons
- Always On Edge (rainbow crashes around the edges + clock + notifications)
- phone is in DND
- Xiaomi Mi Band 3 vibrates

What is the purpose of DND? Avoiding sounds and turning on the screen?
P.S. In my previous opinion I meant AOD- Always On Display (not Screen ). Sorry for the mistake.

I don't want to hear anything from the phone. Just want to be notified in a visual (AOD + AOE) and haptic (Mi Band 3) way.
I assume screen or display is both fine
Hi
I'm also looking for a solution since I miss the LED so much. I'm currently with Always On Edge, but I'm not happy with it. It drains the battery quite a lot, even when I don't get a lot of notifications.
I had days where the stats do report 90 min cpu including 50 min in background. It's quite unrealistic that it had to blink that long during the whole day.
If somebody has a better alternative (also playing together with the fingerprint unlock), please let me know.
Better to check the mAh that are consumed, than the CPU and the screen time. It's located in Power Consumption Details -> Software and is not so bad. But probably depends on how much time you spend away from your phone. You can use AOD and put the phone with screen down, it will turn off screen until you flip it and see if notifications are available.

Hi there!
Is there a way to change how the vibration works? Sorry for the noob question.. cheers!
@kimirai1027 for some Apps e.g. WhatsApp you can specify vibration intensity:
Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp -> More Settings -> Vibration: Off/ Standard/ Short/ Long
@doemEINS Thank you buddy.. cheers!
I had tried to use ALWAYS ON EDGE (among a few other apps) but no matter what settings I tried, etc. I could not get it to work. That being said, I found another app on the Play Store called ALWAYS ON AMOLED and it works like a CHAMP.
It is super customizable and seems to be very similar to ALWAYS ON EDGE so if you are looking for something like this to use as a visual for notifications then I recommend this app. Just search for ALWAYS ON AMOLED on the Play Store...
damn huawei, in the p30 pro are a lot of missing features.
don´t look on samsung, you might get wet eyes, however they want the same price, lol.
oh yes, the laica optics are good, but still, the software is a piece of ..... ( I am not sure, can I say this here?) you know what I mean.

You are absolutely right! Nothing to add from my part, it is exactly what I lack in my P30 Pro: the software is horrible.
On the other hand, guys what is wrong with just using the AOD? It doesnt drain the battery like the Samsung one...so...? I use that and I am ok with it.

notifybuddy not working on my p30 pro with android 9. install, allow access, choose apps for notification ... nothing happens when new notifications are there. maybe we can do something with tasker? turn AOD on when notification?
I find it unbelievable in this day and age when manufacturers decide to remove a functional Led yet don't replace it with anything half decent for notifications.
You know when you plug in your charger, those green bubbles appear? A notification like that would have been nice.

That's the one thing I miss from my S10+, using good lock to have the notification light around the hole punch, most third party applications from the play store need ridiculous permissions or use a stupid amount of battery

Great thread guys..
Can someone please share thier AOE settings/configurations if it's working fully for them.
Its not working at all for me, and I'm usually a person who enjoys playing with settings until I get a satisfying result.
Would really appreciate it.
