I have put a Kingston 8gb in my HTC HD2. Managed to add 3.3 GB of music (synced through WMP on pc). This all worked fine initially on wmp and sense player on phone. However I don't appear to be able to add any more music. There are errors in sync or sync says ok but wmp or sense on phone cant see or play the new music files. There are usually folders within file explorer which apparently contain all the tracks added including album art but these cannot be played (i've tried Nitrogen as well) or play only a few seconds of the track which then constantly repeats.
Anybody got any ideas of a fix for this?
OS version 5.2.21913
Rom 3.14.405.2
Radio version 2.15.50.14
Have you tried copying the music manually to the phone?

Yep, tracks appear in windows explorer but will not play.
Try deleting "AudioManager_Eng.vol" in "/Application Data/HTC/AudioManager_Eng/". You may have to restart the phone to delete it because the sense player locks the file when its running.

I've done this, but now HTC music player cannot find files at all. Win and nitro player can. I tried syncing new tracks again but neither player can play them, although apparently they can see them.
Have you tried running chkdsk on the sd card when the phone is in disk drive mode. File System Issues can sometimes cause these problems.

How do I do this?
Right Click on the "Removable Disk" in "Computer" that represents the sd card. Click "Properties" then go to the "Tools" tab and under "Error Checking" click "Check now...". Make sure that "Automatically fix file system errors" check box is ticked and click "Start".
Done that, found one error in folder fixed. However makes no difference to adding any more music.
Is the music your trying to copy the same format as the music that plays and what is that format?
Yes same format, ripped to WMA variable bit rate
Can you confirm the files are being copied correctly and not becoming corrupt when they reach the sd card. I take it they play fine on the PC. Try using HashCalc from SlavaSoft to generate the checksum of one of the music files on the PC and then the same music file when it is on the sd card. If you have just copied the file to the sd card then remember to eject the sd card, take it out and plug it back in before generating the checksums. Compare the checksums and if they are different then the file has become corrupt when it reaches the sd card.
Done this, file appears originally on file explorer on phone sd, but vanishes after eject/replace. Calculated prior to eject totally different numbers, eject/replace deletes file, leaving empty folder.
Is there any value in syncing to sd in card reader directly?
Ive tried straight copy / paste without success.

Sounds to me it is time for a new SD card. You should not be having this much trouble with a good SD card.
Yes it is some value in using a SD card reader to transfer data to a SD card. For that is the only function ofcthe SD card reader is to read data on the card, write datacfrom your computercto the card, or write data from the card to your computer nothing else. Your HD2 has all kinds of things going on while you use it for USB mass storage. Also if you try a SD card reader and have the same problem you are pretty much assured the SD card is shot. Unless you reformat the SD card with the reader and it will work then. If it still exhibits the same behavior after reformatting it is a bad SD card. Google Panisonic SD card formatting software and download and use it to reformat your SD card. Do a full wipe and use Fat 32.
I reformatted and then I tried using card reader, OK until 3gb ish (of 8) was used. Then errors started. Mix of files (wma, wav etc) using winamp to sync. One error is that Nitro played tracks but it appeared that one track would be repeated. The card is only about a week old.
Is there an issue due to mix of os, windows 7 on pc and windows mobile 6.5 on phone?
Would upgrading phone to Win 7 sort the problem?

Changing over to WP7 would probably only enhance your problem seeing as WP7 uses your SD card as internal memory.
Where did you purchase the SD card? Something tells me it wad online.
It was online, Ebay Pureprices. Kingston though, proper packaging, I'd have thought it would be ok.
I copied some more to the card in phone, tried to play them with card reader, explorer/winamp sees them but will not play, other files previously copied do play.

Well I can't say for sure but I do suspect you were sold a bogus SD card. Even if it was in the right packaging yhat is still not a roper assurence thatcit is logit now. The internet scammers are getting realky good now days. They probably sold you a SD card that is actually only like 4 gig and made it look like a 8gig. I have even heard of people getting SD cards that were sold as 32gig and werecactually only 2gig. You can do some googling and see if you can find some software that will tell you the true size of the card and class also.
This is interesting, I summed the reported file sizes on the card amounting to 2026 mb. the phone (settings sd card and phone storage) reports 7852 mb total 3003 used. This is echoed by my computer when read via the phone and by card reader. I know cards are reported as slightly less capacity (?setup files) but not more than 1/2.
I found this site http://fightflashfraud.wordpress.co...ld-standard-in-detecting-fake-capacity-flash/
any ideas of its veracity?
There is a link on this site regarding fake Kingston cards on Ebay, that seller however had poor feedback, the seller of this card is 100% positive feedback, and only appears to be selling 8gb+ cards and 250+ of them in the last month.

Man nice find I will be downloading that for myself. Kudos to you.
From the results hou got there I think it is pretty safe to say you got a bogus SD card. Not neccasaraly defending the seller you bought it from. But they may have been as much a victum of someone selling them the bogus card too. I know a lot of things are cheaper online but I think I will just have to go down to my local Best buy and get me a SD card. Just to much of a risk to buy some stuff on line.
Did anyone experienced this annoying problem ?
I got twice almost all video files deleted from my microsd card, why ??
Nope! Not had a single problem...
1, what kind of SD card are you using, (Brand, speed)
2, how are you transferring the files to the Flyer.
3, what apps do you have on your Flyer...
Any of the above three may contribute to your problem so a little more info may get some answers...
I used a Microsd HC 32gb Transcend, but I can say that I had a problem like that even with a 16Gb TDK.
I use AndroExplore to surf the folders and I use vPlayer to watch movies.
Essentially I have only avi and mkv files on the card.
I transferred these files connecting flyer to my pc.
The very strange thing is that I have a root directory, and subdir named film, and under this one I've got something like 15 subdir with all the movies.
After the disaster I found all the directories with some of them completely empty and some other with 1 of two files, and the others completely safe.
Very very strange, and I'm really afraid to discover this situation when I will be in vacation next week. This should be a nightmare for me !!!
First thing you want to do is check your microsd for errors. Either remove it, stick it in your computer and run chkdsk /x on it, or hook the flyer up via usb cable, wait for the microsd to mount and run chkdsk /x on it. Then you want to back up the microsd to your computer. With the flyer hooked up via usb, simply drag the ext_sd folder to your hard drive. Microsd card reliability isn't quite there yet; that's why I have my eye on tablets that can take full-size SD cards.

I thank you, but don't you think that it can be caused by a wrong software action ?
I tried several video players, maybe one of them...

i thought I'm getting crazy, but looks like is real...it happened to me couple weeks ago; some video file was missing, and that time I just ignored....so it happened...
I have a microSD 16GB sandisk class 2.......from long time ago. I think is time for renew...
I don't think it can be only a micro sd problem. When a memory card fail the file remain often incomplete on the memory card. In this case they simply disappear all together. Not one, not a directory...it sounds more about a software bug, in a program like Androexplorer or a video player which scan the sd before showing the list. Is it possible to have a bug like this ??
and what about advanced task killer pro ? I keep it always in memory, but sometimes maybe it is dangerous to use for the temp memory, isn't it ?
Does anybody know if I can set readonly all the files to avoid this problem ?
Do you think it can be a good trick ?
I know this is an old thread but I experienced this same problem just now. OP and I could have a common app that did this by accident (bug).
My SD card suddenly became unreadable and I have lost everything on it. I had to buy a new one. My question is, are there any apps that will sync my entire SD card with my PC remotely over the internet (WIFI or 4G) using SMB or FTP?
Thanks!
I searched quite a bit about this same issue about a month ago. I tried every app I could, and in the end 0 Backup Gold seemed to work the best. It dumps my SD card to my PC every night over wifi while the phone is charging.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Odroid.ObackupGold
The other one I liked was FolderSync Lite, but I ran into an issue with it. The first time it copied, the power went out over night for a moment, dropping my wifi router temporarily. The next day I checked to see how the backup went and found that it was copying the Green Hornet file when the drop happened. The file copied on my PC was only about 100 megabytes, instead of the 1gb+ that the file on the SD card is. The next time FolderSync ran it skipped over the Green Hornet file instead of recopying it. So basically, it just looks for if the file name exists in the destination and copies it if it isn't there, leaving the corrupted file in the destination. I also had some memory leak problems with it. When I would run a sync overnight, my phone usually needed rebooting in the morning or was pretty much unresponsive.
0 Backup doesn't have a pretty UI, but I've found it to be reliable. It seems to know when something didn't copy correctly and recopies it on the next backup if need be. The silver version is free too, but doesn't have the scheduling capability. Might be nice if you just want to try it out first.
The other one I tried that worked OK was PCFileSync, but it keeps a huge ugly icon in the notification bar that just drove me nuts.

Thanks for your response. I can't believe I only got one response. I found FolderSync and ended up buying the full version, it was only $2.34, and its been working great so far. I'll look into those corrupt files though. I'll also give 0 Backup a look as well.
Just to suggest possible fix that worked for me and I had a hard time to find anything clearly connected with this issue.
Applies to: 32GB micro SD cards, possibly other rather huge capacities.
- LG GT540 (Optimus), seen reported similar problems on various devices but with unclear solution
Primary symptoms:
(Observed on Android 2.1 Eclair)
- SD Card preparation sometimes taking notably long time.
- SD Card is unexpectedly removed (couple times a day)
- SD Card is corrupted (solved by manual phone reboot)
- System randomly restarts (once or twice a day)
(Observed on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread)
- System restarts during every SD Card preparation process,
after restart SD Card is working (ie. accessible by explorer) but no media files are accessible through standard applications (ie. gallery, music, player, etc.)
Suggested solution:
Format your SD Card with selected allocation unit size equal 8192 bytes (8KB)!
Drawbacks:
As far as I know using that small allocation unit may cause speed performance to suffer.
Full story:
My problems started right away I bought my 32GB micro SD to my new phone GT540. While I was using the SD only as a data storage it worked quite good. From time to time it needs to remount the SD or better reboot completely. After I tried hack App2SD, it was clear that it had been completely unstable. Shortly after I installed all application I wanted, system rebooted and every single user application was gone. So I moved to Link2SD which is more user-friendly way to have applications on SD on Eclair. It worked similar to App2SD but when system rebooted then just another reboot made apps work again. But by the time the whole problem only getting worse with restarts more than couple times a day, mostly when you needed the phone the most.
I believed that the issues were related mainly to non-standard application moving to SD so I decided to move to Gingerbread but there the issue went so bad. No media was cataloged so entire SD data was practically useless. Moreover system restarts on every SD card preparation. So I played around hard and after some time found a solution that's working for me rock solid. (3 days and counting...)
Desperate, I was trying formating any where possible. The really frustrating thing really is that the phone system itself formats the card wrong way! So it was hard to believe that there might be an issue. I tried only formating with 8kb allocation unit, not any other. It's perfectly solved my problems. I think that the original cluster size was 16kb. I've seen on forum suggestions to use 32kb unit as it should have the best performance over the size but I don't know yet if it's also working without issues. I may try it if any one post their experience I'll update this post to collect as much useful information about this as possible.
me too, will try this out
Got the same symptoms on a SGA (5830) running PAC ROM 20.1.0. A brand new SanDisk microSD 32GB (have verified the card is okay, using h2testw.exe). Will give this a go and update with outcome in a few days. Thankyou
Recently my phone started getting quite hot and the battery went from lasting all day with moderate use, ending up with about 30-40% left at the end of the day, to going down to 15% or less within about half a day. So I did some research and found that lots of people had the same problem, and not just with the SGS2 but also with the SGS3 and SGS4.
Various fixes were put forward, both from people who had solved their problem and from people who didn't appear to know what they were talking about. I tried the more sensible fixes and nothing worked.
When I checked my Battery stats in Settings, I found that the media scanner was hogging the battery and keeping the phone awake all day, so I was one step nearer solving the problem. I killed the media scanner process and my battery life improved. But each time I restarted the phone, the problem came back.
I unmounted my 32GB micro-SD card (an absolute requisite in my use case) and waited. Interestingly, the problem continued, even though that's where the vast majority of my media files reside. So I went hunting.
I noticed that even though I'd unmounted the SD card, the /storage/extSdCard folder showed that it had one item inside it. If you know about Linux file systems, which Android uses, you'll know that external storage is mounted onto an existing directory - in the case of my SD card it's mounted on /storage/extSdCard. And if the external storage is unmounted, that directory reverts to being an ordinary directory.
When I looked inside that directory using ES File Explorer, I found a folder that had been created by an app called FlickFolio. It's a great app as it allows you to look at your Flickr stream, sets, etc, on your phone or tablet, and it keeps thumbnails of all your photos on the device to make viewing them very quick.
Now, my current Flickr stream has 9,263 photos in it, taken over the last 6 years. And this directory had over 55,000 subdirectories and files in it, taking up 3.02 GB. I had no idea that they were there because when my SD card is mounted, the FlickFolio directory disappears. It's still there but the mounted SD card covers it up.
So, I deleted the FlickFolio directory. It took nearly 10 minutes for ES File Explorer to do the job but not only did I retrieve a 'missing' 3.02 GB of internal phone storage space, I found that the media scanner is now behaving, and not sucking my battery to death. And my phone isn't overheating. And I'm a happy bunny again.

I have Samsung galaxy S2 android phone. I am facing a strange problem now these days. I usually download apps from android apps store. Today when I download an app, another rogue app downloads automatically. Do you know about the problem? Any solutions please.
If your battery low alltime? then firstly, Format your phone
