Got my TF201 in a mess :( - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

i had the TF201 running on Cyanogenmod kitkat but it was getting slow and some apps needed a new verision of android.
As i hade no further upgrade path through Cyanogen mod i "downgraded" to Hairybean https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2407248 as a starting point for upgrading as all ROM how-to's were advising a bootloader upgrade.
i got hairybean recovery+bootloader & JB installed and working successfully, then proceeded to try to upgrade to Zombipop.
Made two mistakes that i'm aware of.
i didn't do a backup of the working system i had. (dumb)
i installed TWRP 2.6.3 which was the latest version listed on the TWRP website for the TF201 https://dl.twrp.me/tf201/ instead of the reccomended 2.8
somewhere along the line i messed something up and found myself in the following situation
i have Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "ww_epad-10.6.1.27.1-20130711
and at that poiint i also had TWRP recovery 2.6.3 installed
No OS, the tablet dropped straight into recovery mode.
TWRP recovery 2.6.3 was asking me for a password. i have never had a password on this machine and TWRP was not previously asking for this prior to my attempt at installing zombipop.
if i cancel that request then i can't mount any storage in order to try install anything further. The internal file structure is there but it's not showing any files
"Storage: internal storage (0MB)
i cannot enter sideload mode
Errors read: cannot find partition size for /misc / staging /data /boot /recovery
and cannot mount cache.
i assume files are there but are encrypted and cannot be accessed without password
Back in bootloader mode, with fastboot i then tried to flash TWRP 2.8.5.1 blob file ( which i have subsequently found on another site) which i was able to do.
and after getting into that it was no longer asking me for a password but
i can't do a factory reset ( wipe, data, cach and dalvik) prior to trying to flash a new ROM. i just get a load of errors about being unable to mount /system /cache and /data. this makes me wary of trying to flash anything else. it's like what ever the issue that was prompting me for a password previously, is still there. the only difference is with 2.8.5.1 i can actually mount external cards now, though i still cant start ADB sideload properly it reports unable to mount /data
Ultimately i'd like to get it on any rom greater than KitKat which was the last working CynogenMod I had. But right now i'd just settle for having it working on anything at all again.
i'd be grateful for any advice.
<update> using the advanced wipe functions in TWRP I think i have sorted the problems with the /system /cache and /data folders. they are no longer giving errors.
stopping for night now though and coming back to this tomorrow with a fresh head.

Is easy. You have to reset everything through fastboot, bootloader, recovery, system literally everything. Then flash stock rom to recover stock everything, like stock recovery and stock system. Then you are good to go rooting again and so on

[Q] I think TWRP mangled my partitions, please help

So i've posted pieces of this in other threads assuming i knew what the problem was, but nobody has been able to help me so far so i'm posting the whole saga anew.
First off, my phone:
LazyPanda S-OFF
HBOOT:1.12.111
RADIO-1.12.11.0809
I was running MeanRom 4.8 with TWRP 2.3.0.1
Like so many others i tried to OTA update just to get stuck at the recovery screen on reboot. I then found out that i had no ROM installed. I tried to wipe (cache, dalvik, system, etc) and flash a new ROM but i kept getting FAIL messages in TWRP.
"Formatting and mounting partition...
e:error in /sdcard/meanrom-ics-v49-jewel-ltevo.zip
(status 1)
error flashing zip '/sdcard/meanrom-ics-v49-jewel-ltevo.zip'
updating partition details"
I figured it might be a botched DL so i did it manually, MD5 checked out after copying to the mounted device. Attempted to flash the clean DL and i got the same error message. I nandroid restored an old stock rooted ROM I had and it installed just fine. After booting up to the system ROM for the first time I immediately got an "Internal storage is low" error. Checked and after a clean restore (no apps installed, fresh out of the box...) i only have ~200MB free in the app storage section (out of 1.92GB). I can't fathom what's taking up all the other space, nothing seems to be there. Because of this i can't install Titanium, Rom Toolbox, or anything else that may be remotely useful. I tried fixing permissions and re-wiping, re-restoring and i got the same thing.
I tried to flash the TWRP 2.2.2.0 image from recovery thinking this was the problem and got this message:
"updating partition details
E:unable to open ums lunfile 'sys/class/android_usb/android/f_mass_sto.....
Formatting cache...done
Formatting Data... done
Using rm -rf on .android_secure
Updating partition details
E:unable to open ums lunfile 'sys/class/android_usb/android/f_mass_sto.....
E:unable to open zip file."
And THEN i tried to ABD flash the TWRP image through fastboot with "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img" then 'fastboot flash boot openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img' and got this error:
"FAILED (remote partition is not allowed to be flushed!)"
So, i'm stuck with a device that loads a stock ROM, cant flash a new recovery or ROM, and cant' install anything useful because it's full after a restore. Does anyone have any suggestions how to clean/resore my partitions through ADB or a script? Your advice is much appreciated.
I can't help, but I suspect you'd have better luck posting this in the TWRP thread.
I'm wondering if fastboot erase cache would help here. I've seen that command used I think to clean a partition, but it may have been for something else. Sorry, this is a bit over my head. Hope you get help.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
You might have to re lock and run the RUU and then unlock and flash twrp, 2.3 has issues with the partitions for some reason so stick to 2.2
Try updating to the latest twrp. The latest is 2.3.1.0 not 2.3.0.1.
2.3.0.1 had issues which you can read about here

It's been updated already? Cool

Yeah, it fixes the mounting of the sdcards and the flashing rom problem
You may also want to get the 1.12.2222 hboot from the unlimited site. It has fastboot commands enabled.
I noticed you tried flashing TWRP to both the recovery and boot partitions...Do you get the same error when you flash to just recovery? TWRP should not be on boot.

Headsup: What to do when stuck in bootloop on every custom rom

Hi there,
Today I received my Xperia Tablet Z and sure enough, the first thing I did was flash a custom Rom
But my device wouldn't boot up anymore...
Basically I unlocked the bootloader via Sony's key, flashed a boot.img via fastboot and then flashed the Rom via the recovery.
All I got was a bootloop - regardless of which custom Rom I used (AOKP, Cyanogen stable, Cyanogen nightly, Cyanogen unofficial, ...)
I tried doing a factory reset but to no avail.
I manually checked for each delete / wipe option in the recovery, but the device simply would not boot further than the boot animation.
However, after some time I stumbled across a Rom that contained the TWRP recovery instead of CWM.
And this one asked me for a password when I booted.
"A password? What for?!"
Well, simply cancelling the request works.
But it seems that my whole problem had to do with that password request
As it turns out, the data partition was encrypted would not let me access it.
For some reason unknown to me, it was not wiped in CWM (some error popped up when trying to format /data).
TWRP allows for doing a format on this one ("full wipe" if my memory does not fool me) and voila - the tablet would boot!
So to sum it up:
After unlocking the tablet, there might still be an encrypted /data that can't be accessed by any custom Rom.
Wiping this /data solves the problem - and can be done via TWRP.
I just banged my head on that issue for 5 straight hours - downloading new custom roms, looking for similar bootloops, ...
Maybe this information will help someone

[Q] TWRP can't mount dalvik/data

Hi,
My mom has an Asus TF300T running JB 4.2.1. She tried to root and flash OmniROM by herself and borked it somehow. Unfortunately, she didn't do any backup...
She entered the fastboot screen and there she selected wipe. Then she flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300tg-JB.blob using fastboot.
Now I am trying to help her rescue it.
It's operational, the OS loads up fine and she can use it, install apps etc.
I can get to the fastboot screen and from there to the TWRP no problem, but TWRP can't mount anything besides system.
No dalvik partition, no data partition, not even the SD or external SD.
Naturally, I can't flash another rom...
Tried executing "fix permissions" from the TWRP menu, it didn't help.
Downloaded the latest official Asus blob file TF300T-US_epad-10_6_1_27_5-UpdateLauncher.zip and flashed it using fastboot, hoping it will restore the missing partitions but it didn't make any difference.
Also tried CWM - same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Sefi

That sounds pretty bad. The factory blob flashed successfully? If it did, did it just bootloop and then you tried another custom recovery? I'm thinking if the factory blob flashed successfully and it didn't work, your only hope beyond sending it in to them would be to use NVflash. However, pretty sure you had to set up NVflash before anything else or an older update for it to work, can't remember off the top of my head. Props to your mom trying to install Omni though. Hope this doesn't deter her from trying on something else. These tablets are a little different than most devices and I had to read a lot to make sure I had everything lined up properly when I've worked on them for customers.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Yeah the factory blob flashed fine. I can use the device (the OS loads up), I can get into fastboot and from there to TWRP.
There is no backup, and from what I'v read about NVflash, you need to set it up before anything else...
I was hoping the factory blob would recover the partitions...
Is there a way to repartition it?
Maybe using fastboot erase for the data partition?
I guess maybe I am not sure of the exact nature of the issue. If /data was not mounted, you would not be able to install apps. Does it show the proper info in Settings / Storage? Have never seen a device that had the data partition unmount and still be able to use normally while booted.

Stock rom loaded and getting E: Failed to /misc partition Please help

Hi all,
I have Samsung A5 2016 and I tried to update my phone through latest Naugat official firmware using by Odin however it turned out something wrong. My first problem is when I enter the boot screen, ''installing update'' screen pops up and then ''no comment screen'' afterward. Second problem is that boot screen shows an error says E: failed to find /misc partition. I've read tons of post however I couldn't figure this out.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me.
Thank you & Best!
Hi
My message has been moved here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/help/sm-a510f-rom-stock-entering-mode-t3653121
Thanks
Anybody know how to deal with the E: failed to find /misc partition? I saw this come up on my SM-J700T after I tried to flash TWRP. The flash passed but TWRP was not successfully installed. Probably because I did not prevent reboot and reboot in a proper way . But now I have been all around the barn trying to recover and eventually get twrp and root. I flashed several stock roms with lots of errors and finally got the phone running with Nougat 7.1.1 but the E: failed to find /misc partition error remained on the phone all the while. I was unable to use Odin to re-partition due to errors and have been trying to figure out how to use adb, also with errors (yesterday I launch "abd devices" and get a listing for my device (I think- it is not properly identified) and it lists the device properly, today it lists the same device as unauthorized. So what I really would like to do is completely wipe the phone and start fresh but I only have access to the stock bootloader which allows cache wipe and data wipe- factory reset, which does not wipe the Missing partition. So 1)completely wipe phone 2)install twrp 3)root

Unable to boot into TWRP after reformating /data

Hi guys,
Having a bad time setting up my S7 Edge (international model).
End goal is to have it rooted with a Lineage OS ROM.
Successfully flashed TWRP (3.1.1.0) using Odin3 (v3.12) and had no issues booting into TWRP and looking around.
Issues began when I tried to wipe the internal storage in preparation for a new ROM; I got errors along the lines of "unable to mount /data" invalid directory, "unable to mount /system" etc, and the wipe would fail.
Following another user's guide I formatted my /data partition to ExFat (plan was to then format it back to Fat4, which supposedly fixes the issue), however this froze the phone. I was able to reboot it after leaving it a few hours, however now the phone just freezes on the TWRP logo when I try boot into recovery.
I have reflashed TWRP to no avail.
From what I've read online, flashing a new ROM via Odin might recreate all required partitions (namely /data) ? Issue with this is I can only find .zip, not .tar ROM's as required by Odin.
Have I just turned my phone into a brick ?
Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated !
Many thanks,
Pron
