Stuck in September update - Nokia 7.2 Questions & Answers

Device model: TA-1178
I cannot upgrade my device to the current firmware no matter what I do.
- No OTA comes in the updater app
- No amount of VPN, clearing various app caches and data helps.
- captured OTAs are available elsewhere but cannot be installed, the phone appears to have sideloaded OTAs restricted
Does anyone has an idea how to proceed here ? will it work if I factory reset without SIM card?

Few questions?
1) What provider?
2) Is device rooted?
3) Are you connected to Wi-Fi when attempting update?
4) Is your device fully charged when trying to update?
Answers to these questions will allow me and others to try and help. We may not be able to assist but the answers will give us a place to start.

Thanks for your answer.. it was user error really, forced update worked after cleaning up google framework data and cache, I missed that one in my previous attempts. now at Dec 5 patch level.
Sorry for the noise.

I am at the same problem have tried all the above, via wifi and 4g, model 7.2 TA.1196 Aus.
Fully charged, stock, Belong Australia yet our networks have no input to when a manufacturer releases updates to devices that are unlocked that is solely the manufacturers responsibility by law. Only contracted devices have network inputs for branding otherwise our frequency is published on a government site for companies to use. Nothing ever released since buying the device in September.

The message means just what it says. The phone has detected that you installed or changed some system files that it doesn't like. And is exhorting you to go to a service center and let them return your phone to 100% stock.
We would know a lot more and could have given you a lot better advice had you provided basic and critical information such as which S5 model you have and exactly which files you tried to write to your phone. Since you didn't provide those crucial details, we have no idea what is really going on. Presumably you wrote the wrong firmware to the phone or botched a rooting process.
Without any details, all I could suggest is that you use the Odin software to write a 100% stock firmware file the phone, followed by a factory data reset. This will remove any user files or changes and should resolve the error message. Then you can redo whatever you were trying to do.. root, update, etc.
.
Flash a different kernel made for your device, that is also a kernel error. good luck.
Actually, you need to provide a little more info, like what base are you running and so on. Complete questions will yield complete results.
Could this also be an indication that somebody has injected wiretap/spyware software on your phone? Interestingly, I recently went through a separation and within a week following the separation, my phone began to lag (became very slow), would shut down spontaneously, had less memory space available (without any evident source for the cause of a memory reduction (and with a 64 gb SD card)), and on two occasions, producing this message with an exclamation point contained within a yellow triangle immediately after a spontaneous (not user initiated) reboot, and those reboots occurred with more than enough power to operate (one time at or around 50% and the other at 11%).
Also, soon after I noticed the issues with the phone, I received a T-Mobile "Emergency Security Update" notification. It was not mandatory. I proceeded with the update. Then, within a week thereafter, I received another, that not only stated that it was an Emergency Security Update, but was mandatory, and further provided notice that to ensure that my device had not been compromised, the security update was necessitated.
A question of interest on that note, is whether or not the breach (wiretap & spyware software - (vendors available on-line)), occurred only at the device level, or whether or not it modified the SIM. It would seem, if in any event, the above did occur, that a hard reset, probably three times over, and a new SIM would be in order, if for no other reason than diligence in trying to ensure the integrity of the device and SIM (privacy/protection).
My Phone: G Note 4 (32 GB Internal / 64 GB Ext.)
Any thoughts?

[Q] Can you get an unlocked phones OTA without ever having a SIM and only via wifi?

My parents just got a new Unlocked US Edition Moto G 2014, and it is on Kit Kat out of the box. I was assuming it would just update to Lollipop during the first boot. But nothing, and checking for System Updates is not working.
We do not yet have a SIM in this new phone for several more days.
Since I am not there in town, I do not want to try and drag my parents thru the awesomeness that is sideloading an OTA.
So basically - Can Android OS Updates like Lollipop be downloaded strictly via a wifi connection (using the System Updates feature) on a SIM enabled device like a phone. Obviously it is possible on wifi only devices like tablets.
Does anyone have any official proof/documentation of how this is handled? Or even users posts showing it not working until a SIM is installed? I don't want to waste any more time trying to get the update if a SIM is required on a phone. Which is odd because my phone is Unlocked - so there is no "Official Carrier", so who provides my OTA? The carrier I choose to use? Motorola? Or Google?
Thanks in advance!

I cannot boot into fastboot (or recovery)

Hello, I have a LG G5 RS988. I've been fiddling with custom ROMs a bit trying to get the signal to be stable on AT&T. I had finally given up and was going to just try it stock rooted. I don't remember what order i took these actions, but the end result is that i cannot boot into fastboot mode or recovery mode (TWRP was installed but is now gone).
I believe my first attempt was to wipe -> flash [LG-RS98811d-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01]
I think this is where i encountered the bootloops and quit messing with it for a day or so. When i came back to it, i've tried literally everything i can find to do to get it back to stock.
I have used LGUP with the uppercut 1.0.0.0 file to 'upgrade' it back to RS98811c_00_ARB01.kdz or any other .kdz i could find. While i had it in fastboot i had attempted to flash some things, but it eventually wouldn't boot so i set it into download mode. Now i can boot into android 6.XX but i have no access to the fastboot screen. It just shows the battery charging percentage...
Please help.
I've already mentioned this in another thread, but you will have to send this in for repair. Flashing lower KDZ versions even with the same ARB version can hard brick your device. It can be repaired through the 'firehose' method that needs non-free proprietary firehose file, partition xml, and stock mbm/bin images. Or through the JTAG box method which is what I do. This model RS988 is the hardest to repair because it is uncommon unlike the other variants. You won't be able to fix it another way otherwise. Also AT&T blocks LTE access to non AT&T devices especially generic unlocked versions from Huawei, OnePlus, Google, and Xiaomi. Even if you do connect, you'll fall back to 3G/HSPA/HSDPA/HSPA+ when calling or temporary LTE loss, but can reset the radio by toggling airplane mode. If you check your IMEI through them it will show up as generic and you won't get LTE access through their whitelist. You could try to call them and explain this issue, and do insist, you should end up with a higherup tech support person that can add your phone to their list. I haven't tried this since I'm on TracFone an MVNO, so I doubt this will work, but it has for others. This LTE issue also happens for Verizon users, as they only like white-listed phones to use their network.

You could expect to pay around $50-70, but do read my dm. Don't purchase remote PC repair methods. They could install malware on your computer, and the USB client redirector may not work for a hard bricked phone.

Verizon Voicemail issue on U1 flashed S9+ with Visible carrier

Hi all,
Alright so this is going to be a long post. So I recently flashed my phone to the U1 firmware, I currently have an unrooted Verizon Unlocked Samsung S9+. I wanted to switch phone carriers over to Visible (subsidiary of Verizon), here are the order of events that occurred:
1. Visible's website says that my device in not compatible using their IMEI checker, there is a solution that was found on reddit about flashing the device on the U1 firmware.
2. I flashed the device on the U1 firmware using Odin and the Visible SIM card worked as expected. No issues with the flash
3. Data/Texts etc.. are all working as expected. Except for Voicemail.
When I try to check my Voicemail, it is acting as if it's still on the Verizon Voicemail system. It says "Welcome to the message management system, please enter your mailbox number". No one can leave me a VM either because of this. I tried several different combinations of numbers, including my full 10 digit cell number and last 4, to which it says "XXX is not a valid mailbox number", which would be because my number is no longer active on Verizon, so it's unable to access it. Which makes sense. The Visible Customer Care team tried the following:
1. Provisioning my VM multiple times
2. Take out SIM card, turn phone off for 1 min, insert SIM card again, and toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds
3. Reset network settings
After numerous days of troubleshooting with them, eventually they said it was because my device isn't compatible, ok, I can't argue with that. I have not seen anyone else experiencing this issue that had flashed their phone to U1 firmware.
After trying all of this with them, I eventually factory reset my device, hoping that might do something. That still did not work.
My questions is, is there something I missed with flashing the U1 firmware? Why is it still using Verizon's VM system even though I flashed it to U1? Is there any way to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated, and please don't hesitate if you need any other information.

Please check your voice mail settings in your phone app. See my screenshots.
There you should select the correct service provider and the Visible mailbox number.

Flash U1 Software to U WITHOUT losing data?

Hello,
I have an unlocked Xfinity Mobile device that I bought from Xfinity Mobile. This means that I purchased from them and then paid off the phone in full, allowing it to be unlocked. I can plug in other SIM cards (such as atnt) and have them work fine, which means that my phone is 100% unlocked. However, because Xfinity Mobile is a b*tch, APN settings are still locked for some reason, even when my phone is unlocked. I believe it has to do with the fact that carrier-specific software was installed when I first installed my Xfinity Mobile SIM card. I need to access APN settings to ensure my phone gets full functionality from my new carrier, Visible, which doesn't install any carrier-specific software because it's very new or something like that. Plus, Xfinity Mobile's carrier software doesn't allow me to manually disable 5G functionality (select what bands or whatever I want to use), which I may want to do at some point. I also think the Xfinity Mobile boot load screen is hideous, and I would like to get rid of it.
After searching around, I found out that the best way to do this was to flash U1 software to my phone using Odin with the carrier code XAA or something like that to revert my phone to the original Samsung-bought factory-unlocked state. However, after searching around some more, I found out that to do this, I would have to factory reset my phone and then re-import my apps, data, images, etc., with Smart Switch, which doesn't preserve per-app data. I have way too many apps requiring logins to dig out the passwords for each app and log in again, so I would prefer not to factory reset my phone.
Searching around some more, I found out that it was possible to retain data when switching from U to U1 by selecting the "Home CSC" file instead of the non-"Home CSC" file when flashing with Odin in the respective area where it asks for the CSC file, but this would result in a "Dirty flash" which could brick my phone. Of course, I don't want to brick my phone, so this is kind of a no-go. But, some people did say that using the "Home CSC" wouldn't affect the phone that much, and it was safe to do, but I don't want to put the safety of my shiny phone on the line.
Tl;dr: I want to go from my carrier-locked U firmware to U1 unlocked XAA without losing my data / requiring a restore with Smart Switch. Is this possible?
Both the u and u1 lost the ability to switch lte bands in the June and July updates. The last one that allows changing lte bands is the may update (cvdb etc)

So then the phone is NOT giving you the popup prompt to reboot to apply new carrier settings, when you insert a different SIM? And it still shows all of the Xfinity bloat and their configuration?

No, if I put in an ATNT SIM, it will switch to ATNT software and install its respective bloat.
However, my current service provider, Visible, does not have its carrier software/firmware. Therefore it would make no sense for me to use Visible on Xfinity Mobile carrier software.

No.
I'd rather blow my brains out than have 300 useless apps. Also, the actual data indicator icon thing looks ugly as all hell.
Xfinity mobile is more stock than the other bigger providers regarding bloat and other things; it's just that it doesn't allow APN editing, which is incredibly annoying.
