Nanroid Backup and Magisk - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

My phone was rooted by using Magisk. My question is, if I do a nanroid backup with Magisk 20.1 installed and then at a later date I have updated Magisk by a couple of versions but something has happened to my tablet and I need to do a nanroid restore is there anything specific I need to do with Magisk? I am not familiar yet with Magisk and have read some horror stories over on the Magisk forum and I do not want to brick my tablet.

You shouldn't have to worry about it. When you restore your tablet will be just like it was when you backed it up, you'll have the magisk version you had when you backed it up. If it was working then it'll work now as it doesn't know that the future exists. All your apps and magisk will want to update, if there are newer versions, just like it did from the time you made the backup to the time you decided to restore.
When you restore you'll want to do a wipe and clean install boot, system, and data.

[Q] Phone unrooted and I can't get it to root again

My phone unrooted and for the life of me I can't get it rooted again. I'm using the Omnirom nightlies on a Galaxy S3 GTI-9300 (4.4.4 KitKat). A couple days ago it started popping up some errors on boot (First error was something about Keyguard and then the next were about android.system crashing, every time I clicked OK the same error would reappear not letting me do anything on the device), so I went into recovery and installed the newest Omnirom nightly. It fixed the problem but I lost supersu and root access, so I tried recovery again and reflashed supersu, the mod, gapps and root still didn't take even though all flashes were supposedly successful. I also downloaded the .tar file from here galax ys3root. com/cwmtwrp-recovery/ and flashed it with Odin and even though it said it did it successfully the phone is still not rooted. After the .tar I retried flashing supersu from recovery but still no root. Oh and idk if this is relevant because it did it before I lost root access, but whenever I flash supersu with CWM it says I might have lost root access and asks if I want it to try and fix it, giving me No/Yes options. I've tried both but they don't seem to affect anything. I didn't try factory restore because I have apps with valuable data that I don't want to lose until I can back them up, but Titanium won't do it without root access.
Framework is corrupt, full wipe and reflash firmware. Use a nandroid to restore your app data with titanium.

Restoring it isn't the problem though, getting it backed is. My current backup isn't up to date and I can't make a new one without root
Nandroid happens in recovery.

Pokemon Go .37 and custom roms

Has anyone had any luck getting Magisk installed and working on a custom rom yet? I tried it on the CM13 Rom but root would just turn back on within a second. link for Magisk install http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
Thank you
Wait until Magisk V7 is released.
Its states under known issues "HTC One M9 (yes, this particular device): sepolicy issues, should be fixed in v7" .
If you have a twrp backup of a rom that has the last build in it go to the app store and download an apk backup app and backup the pokemon go.apk and reinstall it in a newer rom build and don't do the update. Older version is still working until they finish rolling out the update.
Just to give an update on this....
I used BadBoys rom and I went into SuperSU and did UNINSTALL UNROOT... Which is the first step you need to do for Magisk.... This allowed me to PASS the Safetynet TEST... I can reverse this in moments since I am S-OFF by reinstalling SuperSU and reflash the binary from TWRP
*****So I am under the impression that when Magisk v7 comes out and works for this phone. It "Should" work with BadBoys. Until then I am just reinstalling SuperSU when I need it
I've gotten magisk to boot up once with phh superuser. However as soon as I tried to flash the systemless xposed from twrp. I would get stuck in a boot loop. I was unable to get it to boot up anytime I flash magisk now. I am S on but I don't think that should do anything with the rom.
Magisk works great on my Nexus 7

This is what Ive ended up doing. Thank you
Another update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
As you can see above today we still only have Magisk v6 and not v7 which we need to work with this phone model.... I will update again as soon as I can test v7 which they are still working on.

Snapchat login and root

Hello,
I have a honor 8 rooted since like one year but sudenly I cant' login in snapchat.
I heard about 'we cant log in snapchat when the phone is rooted', but I always did and never got problems before. I switxh everydays (i have 2 acount)
So i tried to uninstall phh's superuser then clear all cache, uninstall busybox reboot and verify that my phone is unrooted..(with the checker).
But still i can't login...
I don't have xposed or anything else
I wanted to try the trick with bluestack/titanium backup but it looks like we can't use snapchat with the last bluestack.....
So I don't know what to do now
If you have any ideas

Flash a unrooted stock rom... log into snapchat (you can make a full backup of ROM to restore to after) and then root and backup with titanium backup. Then copy titanium files to external sd and then restore the ROM backup and then snap backup
Yea but i haven't a custom rom
I jave b380 stock but maybe the problem is my boot.omg (prepatched pph's user)
Should y try to flash the b380 boot.img stock?

No. You cannot have xposed or root and many root apps. Not 100% sure but snapchat might even check selinux and safterynet
So flash complete stock ROM. (Official firmware will work) and then do it
I tried the unSU scrript from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63615067
It said it delete phh's user then I flashed my stock boot.img but still can't login in snpachat lol
I also tried to install Magisk ( I heard it can hide root for some apps) but I have loopboot when I install It. So I flashed back my stock boot.img and it's ok
I don't know what snapchat check/detect, I don't have anything root anymore

Only I can tell you, which works for me: Flash complete stock and then login and reroot
Yea I guess I will do that, thinks anyways
I'll take the opportunity to update it to the latest version but I need to backup all
Whats is the best ways to update? I need to downgrade ? Or maybe I will try a custom rom like lineage

Not familiar with honor devices. I wouldn't know. I'd just flash a rom for stock firmware with twrp

Can I use stock recovery with a custom ROM?

Hi guys. I've been using custom ROMs for a few years now and I always used TWRP.
But lately, my banking app and some other important apps simply won't work because of my custom recovery.
Having that said, can I keep my LineageOS AND flash via Odin JUST the stock recovery to "bypass" the security these apps need? I'm using Magisk and I'm hiding root access from these apps.
What would happen if I flash the stock?
Thanks in advance!
This sounds like a device specific issue, as I use TWRP and LOS on my V20 with no issues. I'd say the banking apps aren't working because you are rooted which means MagiskHide might not be working properly.
This can also happen if you fail the SafetyNet test in Magisk depending on certain apps.
I'm not aware of a way for you to use a custom ROM with a stock recovery. It may be possible but hasn't been as far as I've seen.
I recommend asking this question in the proper Q/A section for your device (which I assume is a Samsung since you mentioned ODIN) to see if other users of that device can help you. Then, report this thread to have it closed/deleted once you have done so.
Also: Backing up with Titanium Backup isn't enough, in almost any case. Do a FULL backup from TWRP of your device, store it somewhere else like an SD card or PC and then mess around.

Thanks for that. I wiped the whole thing and installed a stock ROM. Will only root now and see where it goes.
Titanium backup crashes on this phone (yes, it's a Samsung J7 Prime) if I use Magisk anyway.
I trusted my Google syncing and I kinda got a lot of backups back from the cloud. Not perfect, but acceptable.
yea you can use it
Following is the procedure :
A Nandroid Backup
The quickest way to revert your phone back to its stock ROM is to restore your Nandroid backup. Assuming you have an up-to-date one available it shouldn’t result in much — or any — data loss.
A Nandroid backup creates a complete snapshot of your phone: the operating system, apps, data, and everything else. Restoring it, therefore, restores the ROM you were using at the time. If you have a backup you took when using the stock ROM, then you’re set.
How to Restore a Nandroid Backup
Boot your phone into your custom recovery. We recommend TWRP.
Select Restore. You’ll see a list of all the available backups.
Pick a backup made using the stock ROM.
Select the partitions you want to restore. Normally this means you should check all the boxes.
Finally, swipe the bar labelled Swipe to Restore. It takes a few minutes to complete, then you can reboot.
Flash a Stock ROM
If restoring a Nandroid backup isn’t a viable option, then the next best bet is to flash a stock ROM. This comes with the added inconvenience that you will probably need to perform a factory reset along the way
There are benefits, too. You might be able to find a version of the ROM that is pre-rooted. Flashing ROMs is also really easy to do.
How to Flash a Stock ROM
Find a stock ROM for your phone. Go to forum.xda-developers.com and locate the forum for your device. Stock ROMs are often found in stickied posts at the top of the development boards.
Download the ROM to your phone.
Backup all your data.
Boot into recovery.
Select Wipe to reset your phone. This is optional (if you don’t want to bother with backing up and restoring), but you may encounter bugs or even get stuck in a bootloop if you don’t do it. Swipe the bar to begin the wipe.
From the recovery home screen, select Install and navigate your way to the stock ROM you downloaded.
Swipe the bar to begin installation. You can reboot your phone when it’s finished.
Flash a Factory Image
The ultimate method for getting your phone back to stock is to flash a factory image. This reverts your phone almost to the state it was in when you first unboxed it. All you need to do afterwards is lock the bootloader, and your device will be completely factory fresh.
How to Flash a Factory Image
The procedure to flash a factory image can differ from one device to another. In the case of a Pixel, the steps are simple:
Download and setup the ADB and Fastboot tools.
Download the factory image from the Android website. Unzip the download on your desktop.
Connect your phone via USB and boot into Fastboot mode.
Launch the command line or terminal app.
At the command prompt run flash-all.bat on Windows, or flash-all.sh on Mac or Linux.
Wait for it to finish, then reboot.

Unrooting problems

I have rooted my phone with CF auto root and Odin, everything was successful but I have several banking apps that don't work with root and I have tried magisk to hide it but I don't want to mess with twrp, so I ended up uninstalling root via supersu. I thought everything went fine but when I went to Google play and tried to search for Netflix or revolut it said that my device is not supported for some reason. Also in one of my banking apps I've used a biometrics scanner and now it failed to use it and I got the message. Your device has su binary or something like that. How do I fix it? How do I completely remove root without twrp or factory reset?

there's 2 option
1)Flash Magisk using twrp and hide root
2)Reflash stock firmware but you will lose all data

Damn that sucks then, I don't want to use twrp and when I tried to install magisk via magisk manager even with boot img I couldn't make it to work, the magisk app always were on magisk is not installed, guess I'll stick to downloading certain bank apps from Aptoide or something because that works apparently. Unless someone will be able to help me with magisk installation via ota (inside the app itself) and not via twrp
