Sorry to start off my forum account with a thread, but I made the account specifically for this after hours of searching. I had Cyanogenmod 10.1 (Nightly), and was having some problems with phone memory. So I downloaded a sd card partition app, and wiped the sd card (Or so it seemed). Then it said I needed to unmount it first, which I didn't see anywhere. So I looked for another tutorial which involved the recovery mode (Pretty sure that's what CWM is, I'm very new to this.). What I didn't notice was that i didn't have Siyah (Which I had before), but CWM. So I followed the tutorial, made a 2GB partition, and then tried rebooting. What happened then was CM loaded but didn't leave the booting screen. Probably cause of the wipe.
I'm following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929 , but my problem is after pushing it to the SD card, I can't install it, because I can't even mount the SD card. Any help is very much appreciated, and I would love some detailed explanations of more complex things. Thanks in advance!
If I buy an external SD, can I install it from there?
Provided you have CWM, yes you can......you can also flash a stock firmware via download mode and odin.....

Think we all are on here. My girlfriend hates my phone hahaha
Just re read the OP, there may be an issue with reinstalling the cm rom due to the borked storage partition. By all means try the install from the external memory, but I have a feeling that an odin install of a firmware *may* be the only option. And even with the odin flash, I'd advise the '3 file JB test firmware' as opposed to the regular single file version as I *believe* the test firmware will wipe and re write the storage partitions where the regular firmwares don't (somebody cmiiw)
Here's the link to the multifile firmware download page. READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS detailed there AND FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY.

Looks like you have it all sorted Keith  I would only query... OP, you do definitely have an i9100? Not a variant, i9100g etc?
But yes, definitely give it a go flashing the ROM from external sd. If you have no luck, then it's that link Keith posted via Odin.

Ok, so I managed to install ICS 4.0.3 (Not upgradeable). Couldn't flash CMMod for some reason, at least from the external SD, it just kept booting nonstop (waited 20 min).
For some reason, once I turned on my phone, my internalSD was fine, not partitioned, which is odd. I'm pretty sure it didn't recognize my external, and no, I'm not mixing them up because the ext is 16GB, while the int is 12. Any way to partition the SD card then? I have everything backed up.
Kinda OT, i'm not 100% sure how to install this ROM., with the kernel and all. Thanks again!
And yes, i have an i9100.
So your phone works well while on 4.0.3?
If so, don't mess with the cards.
All that mounting and unmounting will mess with your device.
PS: We can not tell you what ROM you should flash (as a better ROM suggestion).

Thing is i'm always annoyed about storage space, and I read that by partitioning the int, you get that space more.
There is an alternative.... you can swap storage volumes....(cmiiw) by using the vold fstab method....you can also install cm9 and perform the swap in the storage settings (again cmiiw)......both methods were available to me (as stated) with my old galaxy w.......

Well now I apparently can't flash any ROMS, because I've tried with CMMod and now with the official Slim Bean, no luck, endless boot screen. Could my int SD be damaged? What do I do in that case?
I hate to say this, because the general opinion is to do this as a LAST resort, and I personally advise anybody to leave this option WELL alone....but there's a *possibility* that flashing a .pit file and then reflashing a firmware *might* help. But be advised, if the pit file flash fails...ur phone will be permanently borked. Don't attempt this until someone else has commented on the sanity of this idea.....and only try if.....
A) You have researched it REALLY thoroughly
B) you are sure you have the CORRECT pit file
C) there really is NO OTHER WAY to sort your phone out
USE EXTREME CAUTION IF CONSIDERING THIS METHOD......
CHECK, RE-CHECK AND CHECK EVERYTHING AGAIN BEFORE YOU START........

Gonna try to install Slim Bean from ext first, maybe my int got damaged or something.
UPDATE: Tried doing it with CMMod instead, cause i already had it on there, no luck, just endless boot. Gonna try SlimBean from ext. Does no one have a solution? Flashing a fix with Odin works fine, but that doesnt work with ROMs, and it all was perfect before i tried to partition my int SD card (which it's not right now)

No luck, actually formatted the /system this time, but waited 15 minutes and no luck. What my main issue is is why I can't flash correctly anymore?

Not flashing, doing it via Odin. Currently ICS 4.0.3, not even JB which I used to have...

Yes, perfectly.
You could try that boot second Rom if you put dorimanx 8.Xx on It. I read that if you cant boot or flash then install dori and flash as second Rom not 1st and may boot. 8.Xx is for both stock and custom Rom so may be an option to you. But if you flash stock firmware you need modded stock Rom. So flash dori and try and boot second Rom put a custom Rom on it first and see if it boot like that.

You attempted to flash a ROM made for a different phone (d2att), never do that again unless you want a brick.

Yea, look at the sticky. Anyway, it is probably something to do with your recovery. Try flashing it using cwm.

Yea, you can flash .zip versions of cwm through the recovery menu. You could also flash it through Odin if you can't find a flashable .zip of it, probably easier that way. Don't just flash any .zip of cwm you find through twrp, it has to be one made to be flashed.

You should just be able to download the recovery in this topic (.zip not tar.md5) and install it using twrp. Put the file on your external SD since you can't access your phone.

You know that the file that you have to put in odin has to be a ridiculous amount of mb or gb then other things because i made that mistake 2 lol.
You have to extract it when using your pc and stuff and sometimes you get others files like ones that arent even like 100 mb or whatever that can look like a rom.
Give me a full list of evrything you exactly do when flashing and wich file and name and how big the file is and also your model number... The s3 ATT right?
Can someone verify for me that att has an own bootloader and stuff and you can only like odin flash their stock roms right?
You can always use phillz touch recovery and download a custom rom like cyanogenmod for your phone! Then you can acces it... If you dont brick your phone.

Huh? What exactly did you do? If you flashed Philz correctly using TWRP then you should have his recovery on your phone.
I think he needs to report his post to get it moved to his section with people to help him with his exact model and the correct stickies to help him.
If he can't then someone may need to report it for him.
Either way here is some reading material I found after a quick search in your forum.

So you got Philz touch running? If so, then you should be able to flash hellfire with it (assuming that you definitely have the right rom for your phone model).

Try redownloading the rom maybe an bad download.
When it doesnt work then your phone just cant take it and try something else man.
And also ask the developer from the hellfire rom if your phone is compatible with the rom (sometimes you need to download some sort of kernel or whatever it needs)

Is this the first ROM you've tried to flash? What were you running before trying to flash hellfire?
To fix your situation should be fairly simple. 1.download a different ROM to an external SD card, I recommend slimkat because its pretty stable. They use a unified d2lte build for all d2 devices. Before you install the zip, wipe data/factory reset, manually format system, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, install the ROM zip and gapps zip if required then reboot and profit.

The partitioning stays even after you flash roms.
Do the partitioning first. Then flash a stock rom via odin. Then reboot to recovery and wipe data or else you wouldn't be able to boot up the stock rom. After that reboot and it'll ask you to format the sdcard. Do it. Then you may flash blazing kernel and install roms normally

Due to limitations of storage formats, we can't use all of the 16GB. There could be additional hidden partitions on your phone for the operating system, so less storage will be available for the user.
Hope this helps, gsstudios

So here is a funny thing.
I got all the files I needed included the next ROM I was going to flash. First I re-partitioned using the PIT file but when I saw no confirmation message I thought that Odin did nothing so I decided to restart the phone and try again. It would not restart. I guess the re-partition worked but since I didn't immediately upload a new ROM I guess I wiped the memory. I think I bricked my phone
I feel that with this my XDA-NOOB status has been finally removed
Any thoughts/comments?
Did I really brick it? How can I confirm?

That sounds like hard bricked to me. There is nothing I know you can do. I think it's time to move on and buy a new phone (or buy a another s2 because it's still an awesome phone). I doubt that a usb jig will help you fix the problem.

Is it showing as only 16GB capacity or 16GB free memory left? Sometimes rarely flashing custom rom can mess up partitions. Flashing stock will fix this.

Hi sorry for reviving this thread. i am having the same issue as OP and wanted to ask. i have an s6 edge plus and i rooted it to make it easier for me and wanted to go back to stock rom. so my cousin brother flashed it for me and it ended up having 16gb storage like the OP.
I was wondering is that the same thing as flashing stock or thats another thing?
I used odin3 3.12 today to flash saudi arabia version and it still shows 16gb. If its not the same thing as flashing stock rom, how do i go about doing it?

Check my other post above. You need to download and flash the 2nd one along with the pit file.
Try that one first. If it does not work try the first link, the saudi one

I Shall.
I also wanted to ask when i click on odin3 3.12 Pit tab, it says its only for Engineers. That kind of caught my eye.
Is it a risky thing using a pit file? as in a chance of bricking the phone or its just a warning odin3 gives?

Its just a warning. Dont worry about it. As long as you only flash it with the PAK firmware it will be fine. Its a message that will always pop up when you click on pit.

Sorry for the late response, it took 7 hours to download PAK version from Sammobile.
I just tried re flashing with PAK version and including the pit provided. but it shows the same result. storage as 16gb.
im downloading ARABIC (STC) one now to try.
Will put it to download and go to work and give you a headsup after trying within 4 hours (If the download has completed).
Thank you very much.

Sorry i could not figure out how to post image using the forum one :S
EDIT02:
I just tried to flash my phone with the IRAN one where we had 4 files totally (this was the one we used when we went from rooted s6 edge plus to stock rom) but used only AP. This time i tried with all 4 and it says (Success 0/ Failure1).
So i just reflashed Saudi one i used before and now downloading Saudi (STC) from Sammobile. will let you know after i try it
Oh and i also wanted to ask. reflashing phone a number of time a day will pose any risk to it? or you can just do it any amount of time?

The one you tried to flash with 4 files you need to flash all files not just one. Thats why it failed.
I have seen this happen before and it should flash the partition back to 32GB after flashing stock with pit.
Before you flash the next one reply here so i can guide you.
And dont worry about the amount of times you flash it. It will do no harm no matter how many times you flssh it.

Hi, im currently at work and will be home within an hour.
This morning i used IRAN (4 file one) and used all 4 files on odin. Here is what i did in detail.
1. Opened Odin 3 v3.12
2. Uploaded BL (1st), AP (2nd), CP (3rd) and CSC (Last)
3. Under options - > only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time was ticked.
4. I hold volume down, menu button and power button at same time and pressed volume up button.
5. I connected the phone to Computer.
6. Odin3 recognized phone and i clicked start.
Within 2-3 seconds it said it has failed, and i used the SAUDI file to reflash back to normal (As i was late for work).
.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
For the PAK file with the PIT you provided, i did everything almost the same other than it had only AP file and i had Re-partition ticked as well. It flashed fine but showed the same 16gb storage limit.
I will be home soon and post here beforehand if its easier for you and allowed in forum to use skypecall or such, that is indeed fine for me as well.
Thank you very much.

Okay.... what error did you get in odin when trying to flash the 4 files?
I have whatsapp and facebook messenger, pm me when you are free after work
recovery mode is the only thing that works, shows no storage, no OS... nothing
I didn't do anything for this to trigger... its like the internal storage failed on the phone.
tried to flash a freash stock rom on phone..... I get errors- it can't mount ANYTHING.
what happened!? what can I do!
Was it a custom rom or stock? Which recovery is it, stock/cwmr/twrp?

it was a custom rom. delta rm I believe... twrp recovery is on it and the recovery (must be on a separate flash in the hardware) is the only thing that works
when I go to flash stock on odin, it'll say "can't flash, can't mount" can't mount anything, doesn't see storage, no OS installed, can't even see external SD on it which is really weird cause the SD card works.
its gotta be hardware failure... but I'm wondering if there is a way to fix it
Try flashing another recovery like cwmr. The problem is recovery not mounting the partitions and twrp in general being the cause. Twrp is crap at best.
What is the error log from Odin?
odin claimed flashing clean...
then I get stock recovery mode saying it fails to mount.... everything.
I used to thing twrp was junk and sometimes it sucks... but its truly better then dated CWM, trust me twrp is not the issue here.
here's what it looks like
after a fresh stock rom flash
with the stock recovery telling me this
The internal memory could be damaged.
Tried flashing the latest stock ROM with a pit file?
Sorry to tell you this but twrp Is dodgy and there is proof on github.
If you have flashed various recovery's and had no luck then the nand is bad. You can try a pit file but I doubt it'll work.
pit file? what is that?
I knew the internal memory is damaged... but I don't know what caused it.. very random
If the internal memory is damaged, a pit (partition information table) file won't help.
I phoned a recovery guy and he said it is the motherboard.... what the hell?
so the phone is only good for parts then?
I have another galaxy S3 with a bad home button... can I switch them out?

Hey, I've got the same error and second step from this page helped me: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847
@supertac, if they are both the same model, you should be able to move the motherboard from the phone with the bad home button to the phone with the failed internal storage. Hopefully, the defective home button has nothing to do with the motherboard.
Lo now the phone with the bad button is starting to fail...bootloops and half the storage is corropted data that can't be reformatted...

sorry i replied you in another thread too.

i always used philz touch before.
(i9305)
yeah it did but that phone was litterly dying on its last legs... now it fails to turn on
I was able to get another backup S3 though so no worries- the white bastard served me tremendously well.
if I get another mother board I could use it again!
