Unable to write to OTG Flash drive after updating to Android Pie - Xiaomi Redmi 6A Questions & Answers

I recently updated from 10.3.8.0 into MIUI 10.4.4.0. Which is using Android Pie right now. When I copied some files from my phone into my OTG Flash drive suddenly it won't do that anymore. I would just get errors and a zero byte sized clone of the file in my Flash Drive except when copying smaller sized files usually around 1 MB and those copies will turn out fine. I used to be able to do these things without problems before updating to Android Pie. I know for certain that my Flash drive is not broken because I tried it on other devices and even tried reformatting it and it works just fine both reading and writing into it.
Reading files from my OTG Flash drive with my phone is just fine. It's writing into it that has problems.
Am I the only one having these problems? How can I fix this?

"You guys can unzip the file and push it to the system/etc folder until I have time to look at the zip"
I've had my g-Tab all of a week. I got it through Circuit City. The "application crashes" I learned are called "Force Close." Through the forum I found the solutions. I'd learned I needed the updated ROM and wanted Honeycomb. So this ROM seemed the best. I like the ROM as I've used it most of the day. I agree with the comment about soft keys because in the dark it's hard to see the keys on the bezel. The bugs I encounter are frustrating but, I've found solutions here in the forum. I'm new to Android on so many levels. This is my first Android device. So now I'm stuck.
All I wanted to do was transfer the files I have on my HTC Touchpro to my Tab. (For the 3rd Time.)(I've been through Stock ROM's and Mods several times over.) In reading I know I can't set an Adhoc WiFi tether. I also know I need the right App to transfer a file from the PC to the Tab via bluetooth or something.
So now I tried the USB file transfer. Of course it went into Debug mode. I tried some of the solutions for getting transfer mode operating but, that wasn't successful. I figured the SDCardFix solves this problem. So Tjohnsonjr says to push the file into the system/etc. folder. How would this be done?
You mean copy onto an SDcard Ext from the PC and then mount onto the gTab?
For some reason I can't even get my card to be read by the PC (I formatted it using the G-Tab command. Now when I put in my PC the explore window hangs.)
Use a bluetooth transfer? All I get is my Tab trying to use my PC as a headset. I can push a file from the Tab to the PC but, I' haven't figured the reverse.
BTW I thought I might have "bricked" the tab twice. I used CWMod to wipe cache, data, system and set the new partition. Since all of the files were on the internal SDcard the partition wiped the update.zip and command files. The reboot eventually started functioning and it pulled up "something...dirty....3388"
So obviously somewhere in the system there is still an OM android system ROM. (I think I'd like to hang onto that.)
BTW: the error reads:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
Well I hope tjohnsonjr gets this. He's put a lot of work into this ROM. But since the xda-developers won't let me post into the Developer's forum he probably won't. (Too much of a noob).
PS I know some have critiqued the gTab because of it's size. Well for a man who can't see too well that's great. The biggest problem I have with my HTC Touchpro right now is the screen is too small to read the fine print without reading glasses. If I ever figure out how to get the wifi tether working between these two devices. I'd have the perfect solution to several of my problems.
UPdate.zip=SDcardFix.zip
I changed the file name to see if that would make a difference. I was desperate.
try going back to stock rom and then installing. I had a similar problem, and I used nvFlash to go back to stock, then reinstall cwm and repartitioned, cleared data/cache etc.
Installed after doing all that and it worked like a charm.
[Q] [ROM-AOSP]G-Harmony Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Honeycomb elements(UPDATED 4/17)
TJ posted an update to his ROM. The fix to the USB works by renaming the EMMC to the external SDcard per the posts seen on this website. So if you backed up apps and data to the ext SDcard it is now listed under the emmc directory. The SDcard is the internal memory. Not sure how that's going to work when pushing apps and data to the external card. (See forum posts discussing this workaround for the situation for all ROM's.) The USB connection now works for transferring files onto the GTab. Use a file manager for pushing from internal memory to the external SDCard.
The Adhoc Wifi connection seems to work. Meaning I got my cellphone and gTab to connect to one another however, I was unable to get the gTab to connect to the internet via the cellphone. (I'm using an HTC Touchpro on Sprint. I've never gotten the wifi hotspot to function properly but, I'm experimenting with WMWIFIRouter.)
Thanks to TJ for all of the hardwork on this ROM.

playing god with LG wine smart (looking for assistance with reviving)

Here we go!
~no recovery ~no fastboot ~no download [rooted android 4.4]
I bought an lg wine smart 2014 (LG-D486) for nostalgia's sake. The device doesn't come with much storage space so i used a partitioned micro sd card to expand the storage.
I had it up and running perfectly with Link2sd keeping the internal storage free. One day i tried to put the system files on the sdcard through link2sd.
Again everything worked fine, a little slow but i think that was because of the partitions being a little too large.
to speed things up i thought why not try a swap partition. This is where the **** hit the fan.
I was able to reformat the sdcard to have fat32/ext2/swap partitions. The phone was running great after all the setup was finished in link2sd and swapper2.
I just finished receiving a call from a friend and the phone froze up. I removed the battery and tried to start my device back up. NOTHING. no boot logo. no vibration. nothing.
---------
when i connect it to a computer (windows) i get notification to reformat the device and two folders are readable {image/verinfo}
(with linux Reader i can see 35 android partitions)
When connected to a linux computer (ubuntu) i can see about 13 android partitions.
--------------
I've tried flashing the official .kdz file but because it won't go into download mode the updater just crashes.
I've tried unzipping the .kdz and pushing sbl1.img, aboot.img, rpm.img, tz.img, laf.img, boot.img. straight to the partitions but still no reaction.
I have another fully functional wine smart device and was wondering if there was a way to push its partitions to this device?!
all i really need is a way to get download mode working again; from there i can just factory reset the device!
i know it's a long shot but id thought id ask here before giving up.
Were you able to fix it? I've another WIne here, bootlooping....

Unable to download any files and Camera isnt working after flashing

Hey guys, some days ago i hard resetted my Oneplus 3 by erasing the userdata and cache via fastboot. Then i first flashed OxygenOS and over it i flashed Kali Nethunter. Now i am unable to download any files except apps from the play store and my camera isnt working. The app just closes itself and "unknown error" appears. I got the feeling that something with my internal storage is wrong. Anyway i can create folders and files in root explorer. This problems really drive me crazy and there arent clear solutions on the web.
It Would be really nice if somebody could help me because in 5 hours i have to go and so i wont have access to my PC for 2 weeks.
Thanks for reading

Locked out of phone (forgotten PIN).

Hi Everybody,
it loosk like my screen name "ImgettingOld" is entirely apt. I took PIN off my phone when I was using it for GPS on a long jhournet,. I arrived at my destination, set the pin again (same password as usual, but the scramble the numbers feature was on so maybe I messed up. I still can't believe I messed up twice though).
5 mins later I can't get into my phone. I panic a bit and delete the dalvik cache and cache with twrp but the lock is still on. After doing this, I remember that I have "No Lock Home" Xposed module and that I can unlock when in touch with the wifi at home (which I can), but if I am out of the house for more than half an hour without touching the phone en it will lock again. As I was able to get back into the phone at home, I made sure to make new backups of my apps with titanium backup, so I can at least restore my stuff if I have to wipe, but I want to confer with you chaps just to make sure that I don't overlook any of my options and go running off half cocked.
So we are all on the same page, my phone is rooted, xposed, and is running dirty unicorns marshmallow 6.0.1.
1) searching around, I saw this on XDA, will it also apply to my phone?
"Get my le tomorrow but had the same issue on my Axon and there where 3 files in system/data called gatekeeper... and locksettings.db. When you delete this files in twrp the problem is gone "
2) If this doesn't work, is there another alternative without reflashing?
3) If I have to reflash, can I just do a dirty flash with the same rom that I am using now, or must I flash a stock ROM?
Many thanks in advance for the help. I have always found the XDA community to be one of the most knowledgeable and helpful on the internet.
Best regards
I suspect a clean flash - that is, wiping System, Dalvik, Cache and Data - of your current ROM would suffice... ?
Thanks Bill,
I suspect that you are right and this is what it will take to fix my problems, but I was crossing my fingers that someone else could confirm whether option 1 (deleting those files via TWRP) would work, or another method of achieving the same.
If no-one comes up with any enterprising solutions, I shall try that first and report back here with the results in the name of science (and assisting any other poor deluded fools who forget their pins - shame on us!)
Thanks friend!
Don't worry, you'll be fine just by deleting the gatekeeper (2 files) and the locksettings (3 files) files. There's also a bug on TWRP that prevents you from unlocking using your PIN or pattern, just after restoring a nandroid backup, and the only way to unlock the phone again is deleting those files, so you effectively remove your screen lock. I've just done it a few minutes ago.

You have a flashable zip, and a list of files to delete, on this post (it's for Oneplus 3t, but suitable for any other phone):

I just wanted to add that I am having a problem getting my phone to connect via usb to a computer (it isn't recognised), and that I would be loathe to delete data as that is all my stuff. Lack of sd card on the lemax2 is noticeable, even with 128gb storage). I can only bluetooth off small files.
as as aside, I do have a usb-c otg cable which (when plugged in) gives a notification where the contents can be accessed, but I have tried and failed to find the OTG- USB location in file explorer so that I can copy files TO the OTG usb stick. Does anyone know the file explorer location that I am looking for? If I can get everything off my phone via a memory card then that might cusion the blow enormously as all it will cost me is time to fix things?

If you're using the cable that came with the phone, just dump it and get a better one. A lot of people are reporting the same problems with the included cable.
And as for the usb otg, get ES File Explorer app from Google Play, and everytime you plug a usb drive, the app will ask if you want it to open automatically whenever you connect that drive. I've been using this app for years and it works like a charm. And it will also show a button to directly access the otg drive.
I don't know if LeMax 2 supports writing to NTFS or exFAT formatted usb drives (haven't tested that yet) so if you want to write to it, first make sure you'll be able to. FAT32 formatted files should be OK.
Thanks Jman0,
that worked perfectly!
I followed the link that you gave and I manually deleted only the three locksettings files and left the gatekeeper ones alone in TWRP and all is well again. Phew! Anything you need, brother, blood, bone marrow or even a kidney, all you gotta do is ask. I'm just looking after them for ya!
Seriously, many thanks and may Karma treat you kindly. Cheers!

Thanks for the offer, I'll use it when my health gets worse in the future. It's good to know that deleting just the locksettings files is enough. I'll remember it the next time I restore a backup.

Force Updating STF-L09

Hello! First post here!
Just got a new STF-L09 on the amazon cyber Monday sale (had an iphone before) and in my excitement to start messing with it, I managed to brick it.
I was following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/beta-twrp-3-1-1-0-t3654355 and did a full format through TWRP to try and get rid of the encryption in order to root it. Now my device is in a bootloop. I've been looking through older posts here on XDA, boycracked and a few other places but there seems to be quite a bit of contradictory information and I don't want to make anything worse.
What I have:
- An unlocked bootloader
- Working TWRP 3.1.1
- ADB and fastboot (over USB from my laptop running linux)
- A microSD card
- Ability to boot to force update process
What doesn't work:
- my TWRP backup (I didn't realize the one I tried to make failed/got deleted).
- the stock eRecovery tool. Even on stable wifi it cannot retrieve package information from server. I'm assuming this is because Huawei hasn't made the recovery firmware available over this channel for this model.
I'm now trying to do a force update using a stock ROM and my external SD, but I'm having trouble for two reasons:
1. I'm not exactly sure what my initial firmware was, so I'm not sure which ROM to pick.
2. I can't successfully transfer the contents of the update.zip I'm trying to use into a dload folder on the root of my sd. I'm assuming this is because the sd card is formatted to vfat and the UPDATE.APP file is larger than 4GB and therefore not supported on vfat.
Can anybody tell me:
A. How to find out what my initial firmware designation would have been? Phone was recently purchased for UK market, blue colour, 64GB internal memory. Came with EMUI 5.1. I have S/Ns and so on if that helps.
B. How to perform force update with microSD in my situation? Can I format the card to NTFS or another format that supports >4GB filesizes? Am I using the wrong ROM (This is the one I'm trying to use: http://androidhost.ru/v5 )? What files exactly should go into /dload/ at the root of the sd?
C. Is there another procedure I should try in my case? I am able to use fastboot, and I understand it would be possible to flash files onto the device using that, but I'm just getting started with Android and I'm not really sure about the functions of the various images/partitions (eg. data, cust, boot etc.). Is there any hope of the eRecovery tool coming online?
I know some of you have had some success coming from similar situations. I'd really appreciate any help you guys could give. Happy to throw some dosh to anyone who can help put me back in business!
Fixed my own problem 5 minutes later with help from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/help/help-to-restore-l09-bootloop-t3651641
Wrote up my procedure there. But thanks anyways guys!
