Bluetooth 5.0 always on or Tasker to turn off automatically? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
in regards to to battery drain and security:
Is it okay to leave the Bluetooth 5.0 on my Pixel 4 XL activated all the time or should I use Tasker to turn if off automatically when not in use?
I believe Bluetooth 5.0 uses a very low amount of battery. So Tasker might actually drain more battery than Bluetooth 5.0?

ICS, Bluetooth and Deep Sleep issues

ICS Bluetooth on i777 SGS2 is acting up on my stock Subaru handsfree radio.
This may be because the Subaru radio is flakey, I don't know. The bluetooth connection is stable and reliable with GB roms and a Nokia Symbian phone.
My observations are based on 1.3, 2.0, and 2.1 4.0.3 roms from Shoman94, and 4.04 AOKP from task650. Kernel and Modem changes seem to make no difference on this issue.
The biggest issue for me is that the bluetooth connection to the car stereo will drop when the "deep sleep" mode is entered. The connection starts again if the phone is awakened.
The connection will stay connected if bluetooth is active with music or other operations.
The connection will drop during a long phone call or the phone is not being used.
I have read of problems with other ICS devices having issues during "deep sleep",
SOD's and reboots mostly.
Others have tried to prevent these issues, by using SetCPU profiles with freq. changes, limited success.
One App that has helped is SoftLocker. Designed for Tablets with deep sleep issues, it allows me to block deep sleep. Blocking deep sleep allows my phone to stay connected to the car stereo via bluetooth for handsfree operation. It will chew up the battery like this, but I can charge in the car.
Yep. Happens to me too. ICS ShoStock 1.3 and 2.1.
I'm on 2.1 and my Chrysler sound system has had no issues. My previous phone had shostock2 v. 1 - 2 on it and no issues as described either.

Attention Red5: I don't know if this belongs here, and if it should be somewhere else, please do move it. Thanks

I use AOKP and my Bluetooth has no issues with either of my vehicles.
And yes this is the wrong thread... it is for devs. You should be in general or q/a

No issues with connecting to my car with SHOstock2 ROMs.
I have an occasional disconnect with my GS2 and my Explorer with myfordtouch/sync. I don't think it's happened sync I switched to AOKP compared to Sho2, however.
I don't really pay much attention to it.
never had this issue. so i see the that the OP has the issue. where is the DEVELOPMENT thats going on to fix this issue then? This is the DEVELOPMENT thread after all. this should be in general bro.
Zero issues with ShoStock2 v2.1 or aokp on my alpine kce400bt in my 94 Silverado or any issues with any bluetooth device at all...
HTH,
Charlie
Both my pioneer head unit, stereo headphones, headset, and Nissan factory system have no disconnects when in deep sleep. Both my sgs2's.

This sounds like the same issue reported in another thread here a few months back. I had the same problem as the OP of that thread, where the BT would disconnect after a few minutes (10 maybe) of no phone activity other then playing a song. I used a dedicated BT speaker which would function correctly when paired with a PC, but auto disconnect from the phone. Although everyone here seems to be dismissive, it is an issue that other users have encountered as well. I'm using UnNamed 1.3x and haven't found a solution (but have reduced my dependence on BT).

Yeah. This is real.
I started getting the issue once I switched from GB to ICS ShoStock2.
The car is an Audi A6 2007. If I connect the car speaker to the phone via Bluetooth and my conversation lasts for more than five minutes or so, the Bluetooth connection is severed.
It doesn't end the call, so I can pick the phone up, turn on the screen and the Bluetooth reestablishes connection. But the conversation is interrupted.
Again, this didn't happen before and is easy to reproduce.
This problem is likely in the bluez stack. From GB to ICS there were quite a few changes. One of them has just left behind some of our hardware. Since most people don't have trouble, this probably won't get fixed.
One more observation,
When charging in the car, the Bluetooth stays connected. This seems to be because deep sleep does not occur while connected to the charger.

Do you keep your BT on constantly? A thought that just occcured would be to use Tasker to switch the CPU profile to one without sleep when BT on and revert back on BT off. That on charge find could be pretty useful as well.

Thanks, I do run bluetooth continuously and Tasker may provide a way to workaround this. I'll update if I figure it out.

I have the exact same issue in my Audi A8 and A6.. will try Tasker and the charge-trick.
I am still using SoftLocker to disable deep sleep, or using the charge cable in the car.
The trick with Tasker is to figure out a way to lock out deep sleep.
Here is what I'm testing today,
To use Tasker, the plugin for Tasker, Secure Settings, and the Helper app.
After installing Tasker and Secure Settings apps, run Secure Settings. On the "Settings" tab, under "Helper", tap the option to install Helper. This will install Helper, and require su permissions.
In Tasker, I added a profile for BT connect to car, with a Secure Settings/Helper task for CPU awake only, Manual ON.
Next, added another profile to Tasker, BT connect, checked Invert (Should activate on BT disconnect from car), added Secure Settings/Helper task for CPU wake only, Manual OFF.
I'll post later if this works as I intend.
The method above using Tasker works. My phone is not entering deep sleep while connected via BT to my car stereo handsfree system. When the BT disconnects, my phone is entering deep sleep.
Tasker has a trial version if you download it directly from the developers website. This may also be purchased directly from him, and may save a little over the Market version.
Have to love when problems and solutions come together like this!

This thread is what its all about. No ones whining complaining or blaming a dev. Just good old fashioned sharing of information.

[Q] App that detects bluetooth

I have a SGH-i777 (SGS 2 for AT&T). I don't leave bluetooth on all the time is too big of a drain on my battery. When I get to my car, I have to turn it on manually.
Has anyone come across an app that turns BT on and off to detect if any devices are nearby and then connect to them?
That would reduce some of the battery drain and eliminate some of the hassles.

[Q] Question: Wireless Display and Bluetooth simultaneously

Hello,
I have a NEO N003 with Android 4.2.1.
I have to use a Wireless Display and Bluetooth connection at the same time.
But when a activate wireless display in system settings, the system says "Bluetooth will be turned off when you turn on wireless display".
Is there any solution for that?
Thanks and best regards,
Danta.
Hi Danta,
Same problem here, so I'll start following this thread, although not many reactions yet.
Trying to get a Pioneer Appradio running with my non-MHL 4.2.1: HDMI via Wifi, but for controlling my phone from the radio, it'll need BY on as well…
Hope someone will drop in here.

Stratos - connected to the phone via magic?

So here's my concern. My stratos with the latest firmware when not in the airplane mode connects to the phone when phones wifi and bluetooth are both on (using bluetooth for wireless headphones) and after im done with headphones or something that uses BT besides watch I turn it off. Same goes for wifi. But then i noticed that my watch is still connected to the phone in amazfit watch app. I can see battery status, watch uploads sport info,I even can test for notifications and there you go - its shows in watch. So I am little bit lost here, how does these two talk between them if bluetooth and wifi are both off? Had pace few months ago and i havent got that problem. It wouldnt be a big of a problem but i noticed slighty drop in battery life. Phone - xiaomi mi a1. Both international versions.
You gave the the app permission to turn Bluetooth on.
