Is there any way of fooling apps into thinking location is enabled when it is not? I don't want to spoof my location AKA "fake my GPS" I just want apps to think location is enabled when it's not. Some apps require this and it's a battery drain I'd like to avoid. Thanks!

Wrong place to ask but use app cloner and change location wherever you want.

What's the right location to ask? And what is app cloner?

Interesting app but not quite what I'm looking for. It just denies apps your location (for example) but apps still need you to enable location (even though they're not getting the actual location because of app ops) so my battery still gets drained. But this is an interesting app, so thanks!

Also interesting but it's the same thing.
Btw I did find what I was looking for: lataclysm, an xposed module. On Android Pie is currently not asking me to enable location and app gets fooled into using the one sent via the module. Apparently lataclysm it's quite "mainstream", not sure why it didn't come up on my search.

One of the main reasons I was looking forward to ICS on the Prime was the ability to disable apps without having to install TiBa, etc... turns out only some of the ASUS apps you can disable... others like "App Backup", "App Locker", MyLibrary" etc, won't let you.
Anyone else experiencing this as well?
are you rooted?

No, but that's what I was hoping ICS would let me do... not have to root to disable the ASUS apps. Wonder why some you're able to and some you aren't.

sounds like you cant disable a "system" app
try to disable google maps, or the other google apps

Apps like Google Talk are baked into the ROM and that you can disable... also some things you'd consider a system app from ASUS, you can disable... I can't determine the criteria for what makes one be able to be disabled or not.

The asus apps are "baked" in as well. google apps are no more protected than any integrated apps, its standard "you need root to remove me" software
I did an update of many apps from market and every since then the GPS is always looking for a fix! I usually have GPS ticked so its ready when needed and stays off till I open an app that uses GPS such as Nav or map...
I havent opened any nav apps and map is also closed so why is the phone looking for a GPS fix all the time? It drains my battery...
Anybody have a clue..?
Looks like an app may have put GPS on by default when it updated. Are you rooted?
of course, I'm using primarily the EU_Shooter_rooted rom and cobra if I want a moded rom.
I've looked at quicksysteminfo and task manager but can't find the bad app...it's not showing itself
may be your rom have some problem
You can install LBE Privacy Guard and set apps to prompt you before accessing permissions such as Gps to get a better handle on what apps are doing what.

Thanks for the tip, I installed LBE Privacy Guard...Immediatly found two apps which both want a gps fix and they both want my "obtain IMEI number", how freaky...
I disbaled gps and internet for both.
What would they want with my IMEI and gps coordinates?

I have not used the maps app at all today, and my usage shows its been used for an hour and a half. Other than Google now, what should be using maps that often?

It's not like that. Just like whatsapp which stays always on to keep you connected, Google maps also stays on even though you don't open it as a system background process although you don't need it. The best way to remove this is to root your phone and uninstall this 'bloatware'

There's no need to delete Google Maps. You just need to regain some control from the app. By default it sends location data to Google. This periodic data 'seepage' also seems to have the affect of 'waking' the phone from deep sleep. Silly, especially since Google wrote the damn OS.
Anyway, this issue has been covered in other threads; you should search, there are more precise instructions out there
...or you can rely on my questionable memory; as I recall-
- Go into Google Maps
- Choose Settings
- Choose Location Settings
- Un-check "Report From This Device"
Also, make sure (on same screen) that Enable Location Sharing is NOT checked and that any of the other location-specific items on the same screen are un-checked.
If you're wondering about 'Location Reporting' under Background Location Reporting, mine is set to 'Detect your location' (thus I think this setting is OK).
Try this out. For me, Gmaps no longer uses data (or wakes the phone) unless I'm explicitly using it.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. I set it up the way you suggested and I'll see how it works over the next day or so.
You could the free app Greenify as well. Anything that runs in the background without your permission will get shut down by it.

It's desirable (to many) to have at least some background apps able to run/consume data. Yes, you can disable all (or ration out when they're 'allowed' to run, but then you lose out on the full capabilities of the device.
Trust me, having come from Sprint and a GS2, I am well versed in shutting down and restricting apps. What I LOVE about my GS4 is that I can let virtually all apps run (within reason, and w/exception of Gmaps as noted above) and I still have 28-40 hour battery cycles.
Just be wary of 'out of control' apps. Tame them, freeze them, or delete them, but only as a last resort would I disable all background apps.

I agree. Just saying. Those apps that you don't want to run, you can tell Greenify which ones to disallow access. A one stop shop, as it were.

Can anyone suggest a simple app, for rooted, to set the date and time? Something similar to the the option you normally find in the Settings.

I con't post links but search on Google Play for ClockSync by Sergey Baranov. It was really good back when I had my Nexus S.
Thanks. I've actually had a look before on this one, but it can't be used to manually set the date/time. Only automatically after getting the info from the internet.
I bought a Moto E 2nd gen for my nephew to play Pokemon Go. Turns out that it is not officially supported. I have read that some people have had luck with sideloading, but my phone just sits at the loading screen and says "gps signal not found". I've turned location settings to high, ensured that the app is up to date, and is getting proper permissions. Mock locations is off.
Can anyone help me???
try reinstalling the app & make user you have google play games installed as it require g+ login to run the game

If your device isn't getting a GPS signal, try grabbing the app "GPS status toolbox" from the play store. Often just running that (outdoors with clear sky view) will reset stuck GPS for me. It also includes tools to refresh agps data.
If your GPS is working for other apps but not Pokemon, then I don't know.

Get the XDA Labs app (https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-labs/) and install through that (It has the most recent update)
Note: Our moto E does not run the game very well.
For locations: Make sure that the highest setting is actually on, and that the phone can use the cell network to determine location as well (Separate setting) The game works for me (When it is not lagging of course)

Ok, I did ALL of these, and I'm not sure which one worked, but the game is running now. Also Google Play Services updated (thought it already had). So the game is running, but now constantly says "location not found" on the top of the screen. It zeros in on my house, though. I can't thank you guys enough, but is there any way to fix this message?

Okay so this is a work in progress, BUT...
I know how to spoof one's location to fool Pokemon Go. IDK if that is allowed here, so I will go into the less gray part of my theory. Instead of using a gps location spoofing app to fake my location, is there an app that will take my real location, and spoof the rest of the data to satisfy Pokemon Go?

I had "allow mock locations" checked from the night before......
It works perfectly now, and I hate my life......

Root the phone, install Xposed then install Xposed Pokemon Go module of choice (Found in XDA labs app) to do a REAL proper spoof since pokemon go can detect if mock locations is on and most xposed modules do not need that to work (since they use root access)

Thanks, but the 2nd issue was caused and corrected by me. I had "allow mock locations" ticked from my troubleshooting last night.
