which one should I buy??? - OnePlus 7T Pro (Regular & McLaren) Q & A

I'm looking into the 7 pro or 7t pro. But how do they really compare to each other? I love a phone that has plenty of rom support, she I noticed so far this phone only had lineageos... It's that bc the phone is relatively new or is there something I don't know about with this phone and the support isn't there like with other OnePlus devices?
Thanks!

Your Q will be hopefully answered here.
In a nutshell, buy the device that suits your needs most.

Buy recommendation - mate 10 pro/lg v30/oneplus 5t

Hi,
im about to buy a new phone in the 400 to 500 bucks price range.
It has to have an oled display with 80%+ screen to body ration, an atleast okayish camera and should survive the one or another drop unlike samsungs S8.
The
Huawei mate 10 pro
LG v30
Oneplus 5T
are my favorits but i honestly can't decide. I would like you to tell me what you would choose and please tell me why. Maybe some specs are more important to you than to me like a headphone jack (would be nice but not a changing fact for me) and thats why i'd like to know your personall choise with reasons :good:
Of course im open for other phone recommendations, maybe i oversaw(?) one but i'm pretty sure that one of these will make it
Thank you
just realised that this should probably go into Q&A sry about that

7T Pro vs 7T Pro McLaren Edition vs Pixle 4 XL

HI!
I am "buying" new phone serval years now, now i am decided i will buy new phone in a week
I am leaning towards oneplus (i am stile oneplus one user, since the begining)..
I would like to hear your opinion, which one of this three is best? 7T pro, Mclaren Edition (is it worth 100 bucks more for this one) or google 4 Pixle XL
tnx for help guys
Unless camera is a must, OnePlus is definitely the way to go.
This year's pixel was very disappointing
OnePlus 7 T Pro should be a great 1st OnePlus device! Cheers
Apart from the esthetics, dont think that 12GB RAM is gonna be noticeably better.
I would prefer Pixel 4 XL 128gb if its has reasonable price, better design, minimum of 8gb ram.
hmmm
tnx for respond..

I agree Pixel has better software for camera (better pictures) but lets say oneplus 7t doesnt have so bad photos?
For now, i am leaning towards normal one plus 7T pro

thats what i like to hear
I agree that the Pixel 4 cameras are the only real "better in class" feature over the Oneplus 7t. The 7t will likely get a GCam port eventually, but it may not have every camera feature that the Pixel 4 has. Everything else on the 7t beats what's available on the Pixel 4, including the price.
Unfortunately, for me the camera is probably the most important feature on a phone. So I'm waiting till Black Friday to see real "hands on" reviews of both phones and hopefully catch one or both of these phones on sale before I make my final decision. If I find a good deal, I'll upgrade and give my wife my 3a XL as it's time for her to get a new phone. If not, she'll likely get a 3a herself. The 3a series has been a great phone (but again, for me the camera is extremely important).

Hmmm i wouldnt say op7tpro has bad camera, maybe isnt as good as pixl 4 but it still very, very good?
Hi from 7T pro, I love it

I'm also enjoying my 7T Pro very much!
I would say that the camera's are very good now! Not bad at all!
In the past OnePlus was not very good, but with this 7T series they made big steps in the right direction.
Also the super macro mode is much fun to use.
I owned every type of Pixel XL up till now, still owning a 3a XL and there is not much of a difference with the 7T Pro.
These threads are absolutely pointless
OnePlus 7T Pro
HI All,
I may be a future covert to a One Plus from a Pixel 2 XL. Like many I too are disappointed in the Pixel 4xl roll out. I really thought they would make a phone to totally kick butt. But sadly no and it gets me thinking in the One plus direction. Since some of may be former Pixel owners , I need to know, besides the camera , what will I miss?? I'm all about performance. Will I miss the launcher? Active edge does nothing I like. I've written to Google to have the active edge set to answer the phone, like most phones used to when the has press home button. At least My Note 5 did. And that's the feature I miss the most.
Thanks for any reponses

Camara will be definitely missed. But OP 7T pro camera is not bad. It clicks decent pictures.
Launchers can be replaced. OnePlus launcher has a clean interface. You might miss the Google feed on stock launcher, but there are alternative launchers to get the Google feed.
Lift to answer on OP 7T pro is awesome. Just put your phone to ear and call is answered. You won't need active edge
Thanks, more great info!

Question Does anyone know whether this device will become popular in the custom community?

I've been wondering whether to buy this device or not. I want to ask an experienced person. Will this device become popular in the custom community? I am looking forward to it being able to have countless custom ROMs like Redmi Note 7 series poco F1
I hope so.
I'm waiting to see which device to get. I like Xiaomi devices I hate the software.
None of the other manufacturers/ODM have the combo this has.
Good processor
rear or side fingerprint (optical is just useless)
Bootlocker unlock
Xiaomi.eu ( love hate with that. At least it's a custom rom -ish)
I wish there was a pop up camera.
Even I am waiting for it to become popular, OnePlus phones just aren't worth it anymore. I hope this gets popular soon, as soon as there is a working twrp available, I will go ahead and buy this phone.
The problem with Xiaomi is that they just make way too many phones. So it's difficult to get devs to get interested.
I think the Poco F3 has the best chance
People who do not travel have no option. Also, it's the EXACT same device just named differently everywhere, so Devs do not really have to any extra tweaking. I'm guessing, other than adding different configs so the device is recognized and flashed correctly nothing majorly deviating may be required.
Having said that the Vivo Iqoo 7 also deserves a good look this time from the modding community, it's going to sell by the bucket-loads and deservingly at that. The cams are miles better along with the 66w charging and in-built unannounced (sh*t google-dialer) call recording capability. I might just pick one up.
STAY FAR AWAY from the disaster of the 888 chips, all hail Qualcomm marketing division and Samsung fabrication.
EDIT: Sorry, seems like the wrong section, bye bye 888 K40 Pro/Mi11X Pro. No 888, even for free, do not need a portable 5nm grill.
Nobody is making any custom kernels/ROMs that I'm aware of for Mi11 or Redmi K40 Pro Plus. I sold mine (888 throttles too much, bad Qualcomm design, way too OC'd for consistent performance). Sorry for the bad news - most people are ditching their 888s in the Lineage group that I was in and they gave up on a fundraiser for it. Just these phones run way too hot and the chip is not properly configured (they tried to push it TOO FAR).... Even though the Mi11 is probably the most popular 888 out there, I only see development on OnePlus 9 / Pro series. Hate to be the spoiler here.

The issue with Vivo is they don't follow the GPL = no source code bro.
Just now, it is launched in India ( mi 11xpro ) and still people haven't receive devices yet, I am sure more people will be joining soon in some months.
If you stuck with Xiaomi well, I have no idea if any custom ROMs will be released. If so they are probably floating around China somewhere...

Question Honestly? The Nord 2 is fantastic.

So I recently picked up the Nord 2 after swearing off of OnePlus phones following my 8T not receiving notifications properly (returned it) and the Oppo merger was scaring me off a little but I decided to take a risk and try the Nord 2 after MUCH deliberating between it and the POCO F3. And I can happily say I am very happy.
Coming from the S20 FE I haven't noticed any real difference in performance aside from the 90hz screen which I'm now used to. The phone is snappy, the ColorOS integration is actually really well done and I'm happy with it, way more than I would have been with MIUI. I'm really interested to how Android 12 is going to look on this thing and I'm happy to get at least to Android 13 before this thing isn't supported anymore.
Overall? For £400 I'm very happy. I'm happy to answer any queries people have about the device.
I guess you aren't rooted?

Never had a Nord (yet) but I have had three OnePlus phones - 6, 7-Pro, 8T and they all have functioned quite well for me. I know many people say they're never going to buy a OnePlus phone again for various reasons, and reading these statements can have an effect on us readers causing us to reevaluate our decisions. While I hope that using a Chinese phone will not be detrimental to my data, I have also owned a Huawei phone that I gave to my sister - Mate 10 - and she is still using it without any issues. I also had a ZTE Axon 7 which I truly loved and wish I could find an equivalent even now. So I guess what I'm saying is that OnePlus does make good phones...in my opinion...and I am actively watching to see what the Nord N20 brings to the table here in the US! If it checks off enough boxes then I just may buy my 4th OnePlus phone!
Don't let others negative opinions sway your decision. Research the facts and then you will hopefully get a good phone that meets your needs.
I've had a OP3T, a 5 (which is up to day still GF's daily driver), a 7 pro (which I am currency de-googling with E/OS) and now the Nord 2.
I love OP in general and the Nord 2 in particular as well (not too big, not top heavy as the 7 pro, fast as hell, nice vibrations, not too heavy, all good).
BBut for me rooting is the most important. And hell what a disaster this particular phone is to root. After a year still TWRP able to make Nandroids and almost no development going in.
That last thing wonders me most. Even the OP1 still gets new roms coming out. But the Nord 2.... A few spin offs that's it. And that sucks.

Question Out of the loop: Considering Oneplus Nord 2 for my wife, thoughts?

So I am considering getting a Oneplus Nord 2 which I figured just came out this month, right?
I myself have a 7T 128Gb which I really love. Only thing is its head heavyness due to the camera.
My wife just wants a better cam than her Huawei P90 lite and more storage space. Other than that I think she is not such a nerd like me
Anyways: I have been shocked about the fact that there are som many new Oneplus phones out there these days! And reading through all the specs man, I gotta tell you it kills me. It just doesn't tell my anything.
So my question would be: Is the Nord 2 a great buy for 399 € if my wife needs a very nice cam and lots of space? She would also need a safe case, she drops her phones A LOT!
I read some beef here about Oneplus quality and all...
Thanks for your thoughts!
One plus nord 2 came out in july last year...
And if you consider buying it: just... just don't. It's full of bugs and stock camera sucks big time. You might get better results with gcam but still... unacceptable.
Performance and battery life is good though...

Unless you really consider the price aspect, then yes, the Nord 2 can be a nice choice, but you might have to work on it a little to install a custom ROM and fine tune a few things up before being able to get the best of it.
One the other hand, I might suggest getting a OnePlus 9 Pro (its price is decreasing quite often since the OnePlus 10 Pro release) if you want a really nice camera setup and overall specs.
And if you want to split the pear in half, maybe considering a OnePlus Nord 2T 5G in its 12Go RAM/256Go ROM configuration could be the best affordable choice (529€, else, the base storage/RAM capacity is at 429€, but you'll get a better camera setup than the Nord 2).
