If I flash TWRP using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294/page1
Will I be able to normally flash CM/MIUI roms without unlocking bootloader. My bootloader was never unlocked btw.
I dont care about OTA update, I never dirty flash. Always clean
@malimukk

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? You need to check in fastboot mode, by typing in fastboot oem device-info
you may have to boot straight to recovery, or the recovery image may get overwritten
my bootloader is locked.i think above method is for locked bootloader.right.i pressed power+volume up right after flashing(after disconnecting cable),phone showed mi logo and then after 5-6 seconds its showing to connect cable again. also when i use miflash tool to unlock bootloader.its not showing advanced menu in miflash tool.any solutionfor that too.my desktop is windows 7 32 bit os.do i need a 64 bit os to get all options in miflash tool.pls any solution.
Can anyone confirm the successful installation on Kenzo along with the step by step guide. And please let me know which fastboot rom should be used for fastboot flashing. Because we have 3 type of ROMs on Kenzo I.e. Global Stable, Global Developer or Chinese Developer rom. Please provide the step wise installation guide so that I can carry on

I can't write you a detailed step-by-step guide because my English is not so perfect, but: you need to install the Global/Chinese Developer rom. Must be Developer rom, but you can choose which of them (Chinese or Global).
I made it with Global Developer, so I can confirm that this method perfectly works.
Luck!

There is a link for TWRP and SuperSU inside, TWRP can be flashed using adb, i won't explain how to flash it with adb because there is plenty of guides that can help you (use google to search "how to flash TWRP with ADB ).
in TWRP flash SuperSU to have root.
For Custom ROMs and to upgrade to latest Android version:
Inside the link i gave you, there is a folder named CM, inside it, there is a file with the name (lineage-14.1-20170310 UNOFFICIAL-nx549j.zip) that is the latest LineageOS 14.1 rom with android 7.1.1, you can flash it in recovery with a compatible gapps of course.

You have to rename the TWRP to twrp.img and then enable usb debugging in your phone and connect it to pc, and proceed with the rest of the guide.
"Waiting for device" can be fixed by installing PDANet from Pdanet.co
Download it and install it then disconnect your phone and reconnect it to pc and start over.
Ps: there is no commands like the one said above, the right commands are "adb reboot bootloader" and "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" there is a step by step guide here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32965365
Follow the instructions under Install Via ADB section.
These instructions are the easiest available and there is no way i can explain easier.

Type: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img in cmd window that you opened in the twrp folder.

I know this isn't the thread for it... but there is no forum for the ZenFone 3 Zoom.
I have US model and I've unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, rooted.
I want to install rom update that was just released last week. It obviously doesn't flash in TWRP. I also can't unzip it without corruption errors. Redownloaded the ROM multiple times from ASUS.
I assume to update stock rom with an unlocked Bootloader we'll need stock recovery??

And where was that twrp install originally from? I haven't found an image for this model specifically.
Also, does this bootloader unlock still allow the pushed OS updates from ASUS? Want to make sure I can get Nougat when it comes out!
Hey guys,
I need some help. I installed the apk to unlock the bootloader and my phone was fine, but after flashing twrp and installing the zip for supersu via twrp, my phone has been stuck on the boot screen. Now it says "The dm verity is not started in enforcing mode and may not work properly" when booting up. I can get back into twrp, and I've tried wiping the dalvik/art cache, system, data, and cache, but my phone still won't boot up. It's stuck on the ASUS boot screen, and I have no idea what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No. The last update WW_V11.41.87.2 is not available for my OTA. I can download the zip though and flash. I haven't actually attempted to do this yet. I plan to flash it today. Not sure if I'll be able to do it through twrp, or if I'll have to flash back the stock recovery first.
So does this change the bands available with it? I have the WW ROM but want the additional bands the US ROM has.
why I only have system.new.dat where can i get the system.img? thank you
How did you get on with flashing the update... did you have to revert to stock recovery and if so which did you use? Thanks for your help with this.
Can I ask where/how you got the stock ROM? I'd like to make sure that these are updated/available somewhere for people on this device to use as needed, and ASUS seems to only have the updates on their website.

???
How can I update Nougat on ZenFone 3 Zoom.....??? Please help me .......
That device can't install TWRP yet, so only method that OPN users have to root his phones is that:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-nord/how-to/guide-how-to-root-oneplus-nord-t4139411
I think to simplyfy that method in two scripts, one to extract payload.bin and root your phone, and another to convert that extracted payload.bin to fastboot installable ROM.
Make sure that you have python installed in your computer before use it.
Here is the steps to use it:
1. Download any OxygenOS update from Some_Random_Username's Repo:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-nord/how-to/oneplus-nord-repo-oxygen-os-builds-t4138085
2. Download the script:
English v1 version for Windows: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682922150
Spanish v1 version for Windows: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682922151
3. Extract the script on any folder
4. Extract "payload.bin" file from OxygenOS update, downloaded previously on step 1
5. Execute "payload.bat" and follow the steps on the script
OPTIONAL: After root your phone or extract "payload.bin" file, you can use "flash-all.bat" file from scripts file to flash whole OxygenOS update from fastboot mode!
TIPS:
- As Some_Random_Username said, you should backup your /persist once rooted (dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img) and save it somewhere on your cloud/computer, because this might save you from a broken fingerprint sensor and an RMA in the future if it turns out this device has same issue as 8-series when it comes to crossflash regional builds of OOS.
This step will be include to the script in the future

You can fastboot boot twrp.img and then flash magisk, so flashing a boot image is not the only way to root.
Yup:good:
The fastboot roms are already available in the dedicated thread and with the twrp i made you can flash magisk and also stock roms, i really don't know at what this is needed

I know that fastboot roms is already in the dedicated thread, but maybe isn't updated or any people want to extract himself (for example, now you don't have latest 10.5.5 version uploaded!)
Also with TWRP, you can't install it as normal recovery yet, so maybe people want to do and try it with fastboot method, and can use my script for help himselves.
That is another and automated method to help people only

Twrp can also be flashed if needed
Unlocking Bootloader1. Make sure you have a sim and active mobile data. Then go to about phone tap build number 7-8 times. After that go to advanced settings > developer options > turn on OEM unlocking and then check if this device is secure and click add account and device.
2. Download Mi unlock tool from here. Extract it and paste it in C:/unlock. or else your device won't be recognized for unlocking.
3. Open Mi unlock tool and then enter the Mi account which was on your device. Put your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol- and power and then connect to PC. Press unlock and if it tells you to wait you have no other option but to wait. If your mi flash tool shows connect your device even after you have connected it. Follow this guide here.
4. After you have unlocked your bootloader reboot your phone.
Flashing TWRP and Rooting via magisk
1. Download this TWRP image here. Thanks to the original developer mauronofrio.
2. Download adb and fastboot tools here and install it.
3. Now put your phone in fastboot mode and connect it with your pc. Now where you have downloaded the TWRP file rename it to TWRP.img and open a CMD window there if you don't know how just google.
4. Type the following commands
1. fastboot devices
2. fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
3. fastboot reboot recovery.

5. Your phone will boot into TWRP now. But TWRP will be overwritten by stock miui recovery to stop that you need to flash Magisk. Okay keep the sim inserted and use the device for 7 days. And if it doesn't work try using older version of unlock tool.
Hi there!
Silly question: is it possible to install TWRP but keep the official ROM? (phone is unlocked)

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 PM ----------
I've unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool and waited for 7 days,
But i rooted the device using a different method where i patched a boot.img and flashed that to the device.
Will this method still work for me as I'm already rooted but just want TWRP so i can flash other ROMs.. The post says you have to flash magisk from the (temporary) TWRP for the TWRP to stay as the recovery..
Will the magisk on my phone and the magisk installed here collide?
I just want TWRP so i can switch to a custom rom, so any input is appreciated!!

Skip the flashing a rom part and you will be good to go.

You can flash twrp and then check if it persists. If not flash magisk again their is no thing as magisk colliding lol. Just make sure you flash a newer version. And if nothing works flash stock rom and then twrp.
If you have the stock boot IMG flash it and then intsall twrp and magisk.

Haha, makes sense! Thank you for your answers
Nevermind.. i got it to work pretty easily..
I have twrp on this device and Pixel Experience ROM and it's working all fine..
But there's this one thing where when booting to recovery, it asks me to input a password for User(0) when i try to input anything it says password failed..
From reading the log, it says it's for decrypting data(8f I'm not mistaken)
Is this important? Do i need to decrypt it?
Currently the ROM works fine with no errors, so I'm not gonna bother, but would still like to know what this "decrypting" thing is..

Yes, If you use a lock screen enter that password it will be decrypted. You will have to format data if you decide to flash any other rom anyway.
flashed twrp but not able to boot into recovery.

There can be many reasons for that. Please tell me the error or what's actually happening. Then only I can be of help.

Hey buddy, thank you for this quick step-by-step guide. I flash ROMs since 2012 and you know what? It helped me the same. Having all stuff needed for go from stock to custom concentrated in one place (plus some useful tip like the Magisk flash at the end) it's always useful and time-saving. Thank you
2 Micro-notes about fastboot btw:
- write 'fastboot (with lowered 'f'): it may confuse some newbie
- it's 'reboot' instead of 'boot'
