Just thought I would share my no frills tasker project.
Simply, it activates AOD when selected notifications arrive. With the option to disable at certain times of the day, e.g. at night. When all selected notifications are cleared, AOD is disabled.
Currently I have it set up for textra, messages and Gmail, but you can add or remove programs easily from within the task.
You need tasker and tasker settings ([url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.taskersettings[/URL]) installed to make it work.
Just hold your finger on the home button at the bottom of the tasker screen and import.
Also make sure tasker in enabled in the phone notification access settings.
Feel free to modify and post back any improvements if you like.
Definitely better than those apps that work half the time, i tried aodnotify and automate with aod addon's but both stop functioning after a day or so. Tasker should be foolproof.
I've imported the profile but it's saying there's no active profiles

Have you saved the changes to the profile, think they're is a tick in the to right. Also made sure the profiles are switch on. As the profiles are event based, they won't become active until all events in a profile are matched. It is possible to have 2 conflicting events in a profile that will never allow a profile to become active of any changes are made. There shouldn't be any conflicts in the uploaded project.

I have a locked and unrooted phone, and have not needed to give these permissions to tasker for these routines to work. I only had to install the Tasker Settings add on from the plat store to allows tasker to make this work. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.taskersettings

Done that but it doesn't work either, I'll try that permission settings a little later, would be a nice thing to work
Thank you very much, exactly what I was looking for in the past. Much better than aodnotify that I paid for.
It works as it should be, but my question is that the aod display is different than what I choose (AOD style)
When I unlocked the device and lock it, it'll activate the AOD style that I already selected in system settings.
Thank you very much.
I've just tried to use this method but after following the steps written from earlier posts. I only get the " No active profiles." notification from tasker. Here are the steps I've taken:
1. installed tasker and tasker settings
2. enabled tasker to change system settings
3. imported the profile from the OP provided
4. turned the 2 profiles on after import
Is there anything I'm missing?
Tasker is possibly waiting for an event to happen to activate the profile. Have you tried sending your self a message, the switch of the screen before it arrives?
Yes I have. Unfortunately nothing happens. I've tried restarting my phone, reinstalled tasker and tasker settings and reimporting the profile. Same result. One thing I forgot to mention earlier is I am testing this on my S8 plus. I'm planning to upgrade to a s20 soon and saw a post about this from the s20 forums and thought I'd try this out as I'd really like to have Notification LeD alternative on my next phone coming from S8+.
Have the same 'no active profiles' thingie. Tried Tasker settings and adb but no go

You could try removing the apps in the notification setting in the 2 profiles and re selecting the apps you use. As far as I am aware the same command is used on the s8+ and the s10. Also make sure tasker is enabled in notification access in the phone settings
I've tried that as well. Same result, I get the notification "no active profile".

Just an update. I still get the no active profile notification from tasker. But I've decided to re-import tasker file one more time and got the always on display to work only when I wake up the screen after the new notification is received. Once those have been dismissed or read, the always on display will not wake up again for new notifications until I turn on the screen again. Is that how it is suppose to behave from tasker?

No. On mine, when a new selected notification comes on, my aod switches on and stays on untill the notification cleared

Hi
Love the S3
However, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable vibration when recieving a mail on my exchange account...
I have my phone set to vibrate only all the time, and i want it to vibrate only when recieving a call or a text...
However it always vibrates when recieving exchange mail! It does NOT vibrate when recieving gmail... If i switch off the exchange tray notification it does NOT vibrate. However i want the tray/led notification, but no vibration... Im 99% sure this is how it is on SGSII, Galaxy Nexus and so on...
Any ideas?
Under settings vibrate somewhere there is a setting for auto vibrate/auto haptic.
Check if it's active for the exchange app. You can either disable it for only exchange or disable the feature altogether.
I'm imagining it's not a small oversight by you about forgetting to untick vibrate alert in the exchange mail app itself.

No auto haptic is disabled, otherwise everthing will vibrate
Notifications are set to silent..
There are no option to select vibrate or not in the e-mail app...

I don't know if this will work, I only just flipped it myself:
In the file /data/data/com.android.email/shared_prefs/AndroidMail.Main.xml, I've set the line <boolean name="<UUID>.vibrate" value="false" />. Before it was true. The <UUID> is a (surprise) UUID, that I'm guessing identifies the account; a guess that other lines in the file seems to support.
Try it out. It might work. When I find out either way, I'll post back, but I wanted to share my findings ASAP.
EDIT: You need root for this to work, obviously. Those files are protected against fiddling from the regular user.
Hmm i think you have a point.. There are quite a bit of references to vibrate ,including one set to "always" in the files in that folder, which i set to "never"... I edited around a bit with root explorer, which creates a .bak file, but the changes seem to be reverted when rebooted, and the .bak files are deleted as well...
I hardly have time now, but over the weekend i will mess around with it a bit...

Hmm, no dice. The setting that seems to be the right one, which is in com.android.email_preferences.xml and called <string name="account_settings_vibrate_when">always</string> can be set to "never", but whenever I enter the settings screen from the phone, it reverts back to 'always'.
I have also fiddled around in the database files, thinking that maybe the xml got overridden from a database value, but no dice.
I have found a work around temporarily before they update the software with a more discrete management of vibration in different notifications.
Under settings - sounds - vibration intensity you can set the notification vibration to nil.
I primarily use this for it to only vibrate when phone call comes and all other notification i only want sound and no vibration.

Problem is that also turns off vibration for texts/SMS'es, and I don't want that (turns out BTW that the stock Samsung SMS-app also lacks a vibration option in its notification settings... a trend?). It sucks balls.

Yay! After the latest Samsung firmware update (I9300XXBLFB), a 'Vibrate' checkbox has appeared in the settings for the email app. Sadly, still nothing in the SMS app. But it's a start.

Hi all
I upgraded my S3 to Android 4.0.4 yesterday on Rogers in Canada and it's running even better.
The only issue I noticed is regarding the vibration notification form the native email app. I used to not get notified when I was on a call and an email comes through. Now, it vibrates every time i get an email while on a call. i did find the setting in the email app to remove the vibration notification but it removes it completely even when not on a call and also when it's in vibrate mode??
for Gmail it's working well, only get a silent status bar notification which is what I want.
does anyone experience the same? let me know what I should do. it's frustrating to get that vibrating noise while on a call. i did try the kill the duck app but it didn't work....
Thanks

Thanks... but already have tried that. It works for all apps except for the native email app. Seems that after the update to Android 4.0.4, after they've added the vibration notification option, it seems to override all other vibrate notifications.
So for instance if i tick off that option in the native email app settings... and my phone is on vibrate, i won't get the vibe notification. and if i have it on, it will always be on, even while on a call....
So I only need a solution to suppress it while on a call... tried some apps like kill the duck and it still didn't work....
Help!

Well, since that option didn't work, one solution is Tasker. It'll give you (among a sh*tload of other stuff) the ability to define a context, e.g. 'Call in progress' and then set 'Vibrate on Notify: Off' while that context is true.
It's got a GAZILLION more possibilities, and the learning curve may seem a bit steep. And it's a pay-app. But it's worth every last penny, if you ask me.
Check it out.

Apart from Tasker, is there anything else out there? 4.99$ for an app to simply disable the email vibrate notification on a call is not the ideal solution....

Well, there are other similar apps, like Locale or Settings Profile. Some of them have "Lite" or "Free" versions that may or may not work. All of them are general purpose context/setting apps, though. I don't know of any, except that Duck app you mentioned, which didn't work, that do just what you want. Sorry.
On a side note, Tasker has a 7-day trial version on their home page.
I've got a few of these up and running flawlessly now so I understand how they work. I'm trying to create one of these for my bedside and having a bit of a problem doing a couple things that I'm trying to do.
First off, is there a way to make the tag a toggle of all adjustments? In other words, I want it to silence the ringtone & notification tone and turn vibrate off amongst other things and then enable them again in the morning with another swype of the same tag. I thought I read somewhere how you could do this but I'm not seeing the option(s) in NFC Launcher now.
Also, I'm having a difficult time getting it to launch the alarm clock app. I can have it launch the clock but then it takes a few more steps to get the alarm clock armed. Using an older version of the Clock that comes with previous versions of Android and Launcher Pro I can create a shortcut on my homescreen that takes me right into the alarm with a single press. Using this knowledge I select 'launch app' from within NFC Launcher and tell it the app is 'Clock' and then under that is a field for what within the app you specifically want to launch. I've tried 'Add alarm' which is the exact verbiage of that screen and nothing happens. I've even tried the text of the option I select from the homepage shortcut I created which is 'com.android.alarmclock.AlarmClock' and that also does nothing. I know the possibility is there but I can't seem to get it to work.
Lastly, if I'm unable to get the alarm clock launch to work as described in the previous paragraph another option would be the 'Alarms' section within NFC Launcher and then the timer one where I can set an alarm for 8hrs from whenever I scan the tag. This would be perfect but nothing I do disables the vibrate and I HATE the vibrate going off with my alarm because it's so loud and startling. I prefer a quiet audible alarm sound since I'm such a light sleeper. A phone rattling loudly on my nightstand jolts me into fight or flight mode... not a great way to start your day.

That field is for the activity (so package.activity). However Google's new packages have different class names than their activity names (thanks for that by the way). The Alarm clock is com.android.deskclock.AlarmClock - however this probably won't launch right now. It will in the next update (it's working for me without a problem here on what will be the next release). Support will also be in place for class/activity notation so you could pass in com.google.android.deskclock/com.android.deskclock.AlarmClock and not worry about it (Although this will require more space on the tag).

I don't know about vibrate. All I do is pass the intent off to the alarm handler and tell it set an alarm for X:YY time and it handles the rest. There aren't any public extras to pass with the intent to set vibration or sound preferences. I could look at the actual alarm clock source and see if it accepts any, but that is likely device dependent and wouldn't work on skinned devices.
Thanks for the quick response!

My settings via your app on this particular tag is to turn the vibration of the phone off but I think that the alarm clock overrides this as well as a silent setting to play a tone for the alarm. I looked for a setting to disable the vibrate within the Clock but am not seeing it. I can for the alarm but not for the timer which was plan B as described above.
In the app, new tag -> new switch. Same physical tag.

aHA! That's where it was.
As an example I'm going to make a Toggle to do the following:
Night mode
Ringer: Silent
Notification: Silent
Vibrate: Off
Notification light: Disabled
Morning mode
Ringer: Enabled
Notification: Enabled
Vibrate: On
Notification light: Enabled
Now, the question is about the clock. I realize I will be able to launch it with a setting but can I have it disabled (say I wake up before my alarm) and can I put both of these on a Toggle switch? So on the first swipe it launches the clock and on the second swipe it disables it?

As far as I'm aware the alarm clock handler doesn't take an incoming intent to disable an alarm (I looked at the source some time back to resolve getting it auto set in ICS). It might be possible to directly edit the alarms database, but there's no guarantee this will work on any device that's not an AOSP based device (Since HTC likes to make arbitrary modifications sometimes) so that might not get implemented as it would just be potentially broken on a lot of devices. I'd have to take a look into those data stores though.

Sounds like more trouble then it's probably worth. I can just put 'Launch app' 'Clock' in both activities and then manually activate and deactivate as needed. It would be cool to have it 100% automated but I don't know how necessary that's going to be.
Now I just wish I could figure out how to disable the vibrate from the stock timer so that I can set a toggle to have it go off 8 hours from when I swan the tag as my alarm clock since I don't go to work and always set my alarm for 8hrs from when I go to bed. Most of the time I wake up before it goes off so this is why having it disable with a scan of a tag would be ideal but I realize this could be more effort than it's worth. I'm just scratching the surface on what I can do with these tags so I'll just test out what all I can do with them as they stand.
When do you think that update will occur so that I can launch straight into the alarm clock rather than launching the Clock and having to take another step to get to what I want to get to?

To revisit this... the way I came up with 'com.android.alarmclock.AlarmClock' was because I was Googling a way to make a shortcut on my homepage to launch right into the alarm clock. I found one but it used an older version of the DeskClock which I recovered from an old backup from Titanium Backup. It works great as a homepage shortcut but is there a way I can make a shortcut using the new clock? If I can I can delete the older style Desk Clock I had to install and then when the new update to your app comes out I can use that to go right to it. I also just noticed that in the new clock there is an option for: 'com.htc.android.worldclock.alarmclock.DeleteAlarm' so maybe the automatically disabling is possible or will this delete an entire Alarm profile? Since you seem to know WAY more about these clocks than I do is there a way to get with the new clock what I've done using the old clock? I mean the 'com.android.alarmclock.AlarmClock' shortcut... does that exist for the new one? I tried different ones that looked like they may be the right one but it wouldn't launch at all.
Hopefully you understand the way I explained all of this. If not I can try to elaborate whatever parts you don't understand.
Edit: BTW, here is a list of the possible choices and all start with 'com.htc.android.worldclock...
WorldClockTabControl
Relaunch*
TimeZonePicker
DeleteTimeZone
RearrangeTimeZone
SetAlarm*
DeleteAlarm
AlarmAlert*
OffAlarmAlert
HandleSetAlarm*
TimerAlert*
SettingsActivity
SoundSelect
The ones with an asterisk are ones that I've tried to create a shortcut on the homepage using 'Add>Shortcuts>Activities (this requires Launcher Pro)>Clock and then I can choose what action within the app. This is how I was able to set a homepage shortcut using a previous Clock app and if I can figure out how to do the same thing with the new Clock that comes with ICS I will delete the old clock I installed and then use this information moving forward once the NFC app is updated.

Thanks.
(new here and to OPPO)
Got the china ROM and I have quickly realized that notifications were locked up very tightly. Even after turning everything off/allowing notifications, notifications still don't work on lock screen.
I have:
Turned off Power Smart Saver
Custom Power Saving > Allow Background Running
Manage Notifications > Allow Notifications > Display on Lock screen
Battery > App quick freeze > Turn auto freeze off
Anyone have a solution or do I have to put up with the fact that the china rom is inferior
Which notification are you having issue with?
Did you disabled anything using adb?
I disabled com.coloros.athena
And im getting my Gmail and calendar notification somewhat reliable.

What does disabling com.coloros.athena do?
Edit:just found what Athena supposedly does, removing this fixed it for you?
Edit2:
Crowbar Asdfghjkl said:
According to running processes in the developer options, it looks like com.coloros.athena is responsible for killing background processes. I will have to look into this further tomorrow.
EDIT: I deleted com.coloros.athena together with com.coloros.safecenter and com.coloros.oppoguardelf. Looks like Tasker is running in the background now (though it is using a suspiciously small amount of ram compared with previous phones I have).

Using this I have got some more notifications to behave more normally, but things like SoundCloud player will sometimes decide not to show up, is there anything more I can do?

I actually had the same problem with my Oppo Find X. I use the Android Version 8.1.0 with the ColorOS Version V5.2.1.
Step 1: Go to Settings --> Battery --> Turn Off "Smart Power Saver" --> go to Custom Power Consumption Protection --> Select WhatsApp --> Tick "Allow Background Running"
Step 2: Go to Settings --> Battery --> Select "App quick freeze" --> disable WhatsApp
Step 3: On your Phone you have 3 Buttons, the one where you can go back, the other to get to Home Screen and the other one, where we can check our opened windows we use right now.
We need to open WhatsApp once, just to see it as an opened window, now use the third button i told you and use you finger to push the WhatsApp window DOWN. There you have the option to "Lock" the
App. That means, the App will be opened all the time without getting freezed and you can get messages. Remember to Manage the Notifications of WhatsApp in the Settings, like "Display on Lockscreen" and
"Display at the Top of the Screen"
I hope i was able to help you or other Persons. If you have questions, message me on: [email protected]
So I thought I would start a thread since this seems to be the best app out there to replace our missing notifications LED. This seems to be the best solution at the moment but I'm having some issues.
1. I can't seem to get the colors to change on a per-app basis.
2. The edge lighting around the notch doesn't seem to work.
Has anyone else figured this out or have any other suggestions?
Here is a link to the app for those that haven't tried it yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
In settings for the app, give it the required permissions, scroll down to the blue box that says "enable app and its color and time", select the app you want, check enable edge lighting, (I have only checked out One Color) then tap the colored box, and select the color you want, and press Choose.
Been playing with it today. Works well enough that I paid. One remaining concern, is effect on battery so we'll have to see how it behaves tomorrow.
For the ring around the camera, enable "notch support" under widget settings and make sure you have either "around all screen" or "around notch only" selected under lighting above.
To get per app notifications, use the "when a notification comes" option under how to start and it will open up a selection.
Another really cool feature is "display notification icons" that can be used together work edge lighting, or stand alone by itself to create an alternative to aod that stays on when there are notifications pending.

For "when a notification comes", no option to choose for Whatsapp or Gmail?

Try the system apps checkbox. The UI isn't the greatest and it took me a while to get mine sorted out, but seems to work really well one configured.

System apps checkbox in the AOE? Didn't see this option. If on the individual app, I've set all notifications to on
I've been playing with the notch ring only cause is what I am interested but it somehow disable Always Display and dont know how to get it back... I just want the led notch ring notifications
Is it me or does this app have an archaic setup process? It just looks so dated and hard to use.

Found that. Thank you.
Which option do you choose for the following;
*allow this app to run without restriction or
*allow the system to prevent this app from running sometimes
I am curious....it cannot be setup to work as the original led notifications, right? I mean, the light ring disappears after a few seconds...cannot be set to repeat after a certain period of time..?
Yeah, it has a reminder function. Thanks for clarifying to myself )
Curious about battery usage with this app. The features are cool but the setup is just a pain.

You can set the time that it shows up and also there is a repeat option as well.
Hi. Great app!! However... Even tho I've ticket to show the app's icon when a notification is received... I don't. Any ideas? Cheers
I can't get this to work at all on my s10. wanted to it flash different colours (with screen off) for variety of notifications (Skype, WA, Nine (email). Messenger). None work. can't get any light to come on at all....is there something I'm missing!?
Make sure that the built in edge lighting isn't turned on.

Thanks - all good. Seemed that Nine was supported as Samsung email works fine as does Whats App. To me this is a 100% solution to the no LED light so happy days..
Yes I'm very happy with it so far. :good:
Im still tweaking with this - can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the AOD it puts on the phone. I just want the notification ring.
I cant seem to get this to work as well
Hi guys,
I cooked up some tasker mods to address some of the graciously few problems I have with the software of the mate 20x. I thought they might be useful to some of you guys so I figured I'd share. The plugins used are AutoInput, AutoLaunch, AutoNotifications, and AutoTools.
Mod List:
1. Fixed Auto-rotate Lock: uses the quick tile to auto-rotate or lock to any orientation
2. Swipe Recent Apps Switcher: cycle through previous apps by swiping on the bottom of the screen ala iPhone
3. Auto-disable Eye comfort: pop-up prompt when activating chosen apps that automatically disables eye comfort mode
4. Automatic Screen Filter: activates the free app Night Screen when brightness is set to minimum and disables it when brightness is raised
1. Fix Auto-rotate Lock
There are two versions of this mod, one which uses the system quick tile and one which uses an AutoNotifications quick tile. The AutoNotifications quick tile is more reliable and allows you to seamlessly lock orientation in landscape or inverted. The system quick tile is more clunky and you cannot lock in inverted, but it's a bit faster. If anyone knows where to find the system quick tile icons please tell!
Simply import the profiles to Tasker and turn them on. Choose "Rotate On" for the system qt or "AltRotate On" for the AutoNotifications qt.
2. Swipe Recent Apps Switcher
This mod will track all activated apps in an array so they can be systematically called back. It also offers swipe gestures at the bottom of the screen which can be used to cycle through them. Swipe left or right to go back and forth through your recent apps. After settling on an app, the app list will be updated to bring your active app to the front.
To install, import and turn on all profiles and run the swipe task. The Swipe task must be ran to provide gestures. The overlay providing gestures is at the very bottom of the screen, so just swipe your finger along the screen edge. Modify your settings and profiles to make sure that Swipe, AutoTools, and Tasker stay on with full permissions. This mod requires that tasker monitoring use accessibility. In the no root version some apps will refresh their state when activated (es explorer). This is because apps are 'launched' and not 'brought to foreground'. In the root version this is not an issue.
3. Auto-disable Eye comfort
This will provide a discrete pop-up in the corner of your screen when you activate the selected apps. I set up the profile with the apps I use for photo and video editing. When you click the pop up it will automatically open the drawer and disable the eye comfort quick tile. The pop up will go away in 5 seconds if not clicked, or can be swiped away.
To install, place the "bubble" folder in your AutoTools webscreen folder. The file paths should match up, but you may need to modify them. Import and turn on. The no root plugin uses AutoInput to press the fourth quick tile. If you have eye comfort on another quick tile you will need to change the touch coordinates. The root option will, if prompted, automatically switch eye comfort on and off as you switch between monitored apps. If you dismiss the prompt it will not ask again until eye comfort is toggled.
4. Automatic Screen Filter
When brightness is lowered to the minimum level, this mod will launch the app Night Screen to lower the brightness with a screen filter. When the brightness is raised above minimum it will turn night screen off.
You can change the app used, but it must have a toggle or on/off activity to be launched by secure settings. I found Night Screen to be the best for me. Import and turn on profiles.
There may be some bugs due to inconsistent Tasker monitoring and the system messing with things. Unfortunately there is little I can do about this.
ps. the zip is NOT installable

I vastly improved the app switcher to function much more intuitively and more like a native function. It's works pretty much exactly like on the iPhone, accept the animations are going the wrong way. I'll test it out a bit then update the post.
You sir are incredible
Post has been updated with a new app switcher, a root app switcher which fixes the launching problem, and a root eye comfort prompt which modifies the setting directly and has enhanced functionality. Also now none of the mods are dependent on the Secure Settings plugin

Such as:
Auto speakerphone when call connects by default
When I get in the car, show a list of media players as a popup (bc bt connected)
$60 via PayPal thx
I really appreciate the offer, but thats not how xda works. This is where people help people, and I've benefited far too much through the days on the generosity of others to be greedy now.
I took a quick look and it and there is a State profile called "BT Connected". You should be able to check your bluetooth settings for the exact name of your car and insert that into the Name field. Then you would make a Scene containing buttons corrosponding to your desired media player. This should be reletively straightforward. When the BT is connected, show the scene with the buttons then launch your choice. This can be done with the AutoLaunch plugin or by android intent by running code 'am start --activity-reorder-to-front PACKAGE_NAME/MAIN_ACTIVITY'. The main activity intent is easily found through terminal if you're rooted but I dont remember how to find it if you're not rooted.
For the call I would use the State profile "Call". I am not sure if this will activate after the call is connected or while the phone is ringing for incoming calls. If its when the phone is ringing I would then set up a loop with "AutoInput Query" to check whether the call was connected. Run a couple tests with the query to see what the variable values are when the call is connected and check for those values to escape the loop. When the call is connected, use auto input to click on the speakerphone button automaticly. You can use the auto option to configure this or you can go into developer mode on your phone and enable show pointer location to get the coordinates. Coordinates are faster that text matching, but you might have to add a wait for 500ms to avoid it touching too early.
That should be it, pretty straightforward. You've inspired me to update this list with my new rotate toolbar and fixes. Happy tinkering!
That being said, I would be willing to do it for you if you would rather pay for a finished solution. However, I greatly encourage you to give it a go yourself, the possibilities are endless once you get comfortable with Tasker.
