Can I hide the rounded corners on the device, possibly without root, even making the screen size "slightly smaller" ? (Android Pie)
No. The corners you see are there even when you're booting the device. They're impossible to get rid of.
Tnx, I partially workaround-ed the "issue" with notch remover which "paint" a black gradient on top borders and the setting for making black the navbar, which instead perfectly hide the bottom borders.
I only see the borders in lock screen now, but I can live with it ^^
Just keep in mind that apps like notch remover will cause uneven degradation of AMOLED display, it's possible that you'll have different colors in fullscreen apps in places where the top and bottom bar usually are.
Example (3 button nav bar):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

Sure. But now your screen size is smaller than when you have rounded corners. But hey, if you prefer it that way...who am I to state otherwise.
Cheers!
The slightly smaller screen size is not a big issue for me. I liked the phone even more if it were 5-5,5'' (I come from a 4,7'' phone)
The amoled degradation, however is a bit concerning. Maybe I'll try to like the borders.
I don't use the notch remover on landscape, as it works bad there. Only on potrait mode. Usually is "app safe".
OT: I hope will get the Android10 soon

How in the world can I get my background/bar to stay behind my widget buttons?
I have tried everything I can think of but whenever the screen rotates the background covers the buttons so I have to remove the background and readd it...PIA
This is why I am hoping someone will build an app to do this for us
Here is what I mean:
How it should look, all icons bright white and clickable
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is how they look after I rotate the screen, grey (because they are behind the bar now) and unclickable (it just opens the MinimalisticText settings screen to adjust the background widget).
Are the combined horizontal-and-vertical text widgets not possible to make with MinimalisticText? I've never had this issue because my black "shadows" are one in the same as the text that's written on them.
If you're putting ADW Launcher actions to other pages underneath the icons, and are using two separate widgets to create the text and background shadow, does that mean you're overlapping 3 icons on top of each other?
Yea and for some reason the page navigation icons never get messed up...they are made in "Simple Text"
Maybe I should try the 3 stack on everything
I tried making the bottom bar all one with text and shadow, but if you don't make them all separate widgets then its impossible to line up the text with the grid (for clickability).
Alright, I think I understand well enough. Unfortunately I will be useless when it comes to helping people who use the SimpleText method, as I have my hubs set up using only ADW and Minimalistic Text.
same thing happens to me. Seems to be a orientation bug. Keep turning the unit. Until it becomes bright white again.

Is it simply a side effect of the Ripple animation on the lock screen that causes it to appear washed out, with "blotches on the right side of the screen? Disabling the ripple effect causes wallpapers to be displayed with the proper contrast ratio, with no light colored blotches...but the "normal" lock screen sucks...
has anyone dug into the lock screen to see what it is that may or may not be causing this?
for example...you can even see it in screen shots...

That is really odd. Mine keeps the same aspect ratio. I loaded up a few backgrounds. The only thing it does on mine is gives it a more washed out look, but no weird blotches like yours. And in your screenshots, it fits the entire image in your lockscreen, but clearly the image cuts off on your launcher. Then again I am using the stock launcher as well. Both images are the same size.
Odd find indeed though. You should maybe try stock launcher and see if you get the same result for testing reasons.

I get "stain/smudges" on the screen too on a dark background with high brightness I tested on demo models to same.
If ripple effect is removed the no issue
is there any method of reducing or hiding the black outlining near the bezel on the g2.is it present in all the roms?
lol, that is a hardware not a software issue

i know the question is kinda noobish but what i mean is that the outlining thickness increses when the phone is running as compared to when phone screen is off or the phone is booting.i mean out of total outlining thickness 70% is hardware related and 30% is software related
can you post some pictures of what you're talking about?

i dont have other camera to take picture of phone.if u see your phone when its screen is off the thickness of black outlining around the screen is less.when you turn on the screen then more thickness is added by the rom to the outlining.see it
sorry, don't know what you're talking about... for me the bezel is always the same, screen off or screen on (stock rooted v20f d802)
It's practically bezel-free as it is, certainly the smallest bezel of any device in its class.
What do you expect?

When your screen is off, you see the bezel very thin, but when you turn on the screen, the surrounding area of the screen have black line that add more "bezel"?
If yes, then it's hardware related and you can't fix that
That's why I choose the black color, so I can't see the "bezel" difference between off and on screen.
I think most of white or non black color phone should have same problem, but on G2, is more thick.
And I think that's why LG G3 use all black color surrounding the screen on any phone color.
I have a rooted S9+. This device is comportable, but rounded screen border is bothering me.
Is there a way to disable it?
I searched but could only find apps that add rounded corners. What is it that you dont like about the rounded corners?
Well, It's not that big problem.
When I watching some videos, reading some texts, or viewing some pics, that rounded border hide some very tiny parts of it.
Not a big problem, but bothering.
Try the edge touch extension in the new samsung Goodlock 2018 app, it's what you are looking for https://www.the***********.com/download-samsung-good-lock-2018-app-apk/#6-Edge-Touch
Err... I think I make a mistake on word choice.. I mean corner. Not border.
for example the screen looks like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but when I take a screenshot there's no corner on it.
I am sorry to have confused you
Since it's a physical boarder the only thing I could see doing is add a boarder around the video to make it smaller and fit within the screen. I don't know if you could do that rooted though.

Oh... I didn't know about that it's a physical border. Cause past edge models' border is not physical. I heard that LG G6 and G7 have a physical border not samsung. Anyways Thanks alot!
Is there a way to get rounded corners on the top side while watching Netflix? I don't mind the rounded corners on the bottom, but now it's only one side and the asymmetric view is annoying.
Edit: I mean in the 'full screen' mode

What ROM are you using? I am on stock MIUI 10.3.4.0 not unlocked and have rounded corners at all times full screen other than home screen. March 2019 security update.

I'm on the latest xiaomi.eu ROM 9.6.13. When netflix is playing zoomed in, it cuts the notch out (that part is just black, not part of the video) and the video starts from there, but with a straight edge.
Does stock MIUI uses the notch so the corners are rounded by the hardware corners?
Yes. It is straight under normal usage but when Prime video or Netflix are in use all corners are rounded.
