Hi all, I have a few questions,
I have made a whatsapp backup before switching to new phone, and then after switching to new phone, i forgot to restore, and end up using for few month.
My question is,
1-If i create new backup, will it overwrite the old one, or it will merge?
2-if it will overwrite, then how to merge my current whatsap data with previous backup?
Thanks!!

Hi All
And apologies for a noob question..
I have MRC3.2 running on my Hero and am thinking of upgrading to a 2.1droid rom... My question is this if I backup using nandroid backup thingy will it reflash the rom back to orginal or will it just restore my setting and apps etc(which is what I want to do) or should I use sprite backup and restore that way??
regards
Lohtse
A nandroid backup bacicaly takes a snapshot of the current state it is in, then will restore exactly how it is, so apps, settings, AND ROM. Its like system restore on your PC I think.
So yeah, if you want to change ROM, research that Sprite as I'v never heard of that. I used Titanium backup last time, It restored my apps, settings, sms,... Only problem was that It didn't save my facebook links to my contact in phone book. I'll have to do them again manually, when I can be arsed!!!
Would you be interested in knowing how to merge an old sms database with a new one?
What happened to me is that I was running 2.1 and wanted to upgrade to FreeX10 beta4 (2.2).
So, I backed everything up with xRecovery and Titanium, then upgraded.
However, before I could restore the texts with Titanium, I received a lot of texts.
Then when I tried restoring the old texts, I lost my most recent texts.
Which led me to figure out if it was possible to merge old texts with new ones.
I've now figured out how to merge the old texts with the new and have them properly dated and in order.
The only thing I'm missing is the attachments. Which is looking impossible right now.
Use SMS restore and backup it will merge the two automatically without losing any messages. What i mean by merging is first restoring the new backup using titanium and then making a backup using SMS restore and backup in Archive mode, do the same for the old backup too. And you will have a single file containing all the backup
i have personally tried it.

Click to collapse
After all of that hard work...
I haven't tried your way but I'll take your word for it.
hey im new to this forum quick question to ask sorry if its been asked before.
if i install a new rom on my x10 (same as the old one but just altered) does it delete all my texts ? if so how do i get them back when the rom is installed ?
and i made a backup of the phone through xrecovery does that backup texts also ?
thanks
IF you make a backup with xrecovery, when/if you restore the backup, it will be EXACTLY like it was when you made the backup, right down to the text messages you had... It is a total mirror image.
In order to keep them when flashing new roms, you can use titanium backup and backup/restore the app + data, or when you flash a new rom you can restore just the data partition from a previous rom in xrecovery as well...
thankyou !

Hi guys
I have repaired an old phone and would like to extract my old whatsapp chat history and merge this with my current chats.
Is it as simple as reactivating WhatsApp on my old phone and doing a backup.
...then reactivating WhatsApp on my new phone and doing a restore?
Would this work?
Would it overwrite my current whatsapp data?
Thanks in advance
