PSA: Enable Gesture Nav with 3rd Party Launchers (Nova, LawnChair, etc) - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Themes, Apps

FYI if you run the following command in ADB setting a 3rd party launcher as the default, it will switch back to Gesture Nav.
Code:
adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural
I love Nova and this works great for me.

Did you get the gestures working like swipe up, swipe left, swipe right. When i did it a few days ago it was 3 place to swipe from the bottom.

You need to set the navigation bar to Navigation Buttons while doing the adb command: adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural

Can you post a SS of you navigation bar menu screen? Also what launcher are you using?
nevermind it seems to be working now. However it does not stick after rebooting.

this actually removes the Android 10 navigation even if you revert back to One UI, do not use.

has anyone figured out how to get this working?

Actually dont use this, the stock android 10 gestures wont work properly.
You can enable the samsung nav bar again with: .\adb shell cmd overlay disable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural

Can someone clear this up a bit for me? Specifically what gestures won't work on third party launchers? You mean the pulling up from the corners to bring up GA and swiping from left and right of the display to go back?

Funciona bastante bien. Muchas gracias!

Seems to be working fine with Evie launcher, running flawlessly...

Using a Samsung S20+ G985F - I mean there are some little nuances, but it works relatively well. I don't like that it resets on restart though, I wonder if there's a way to change that?

I installed vivid gestures and tested before to running the command and it's working perfectly without disabling anything it sticks after rebooting too :good: I'm running the latest ATF9 t-mobile model

Do you guys get a weird delay of redrawing while returning to home screen using the gesture and Nova launcher?

Yes. the transitions are not smooth and also there's no haptic feedback with this gestures (I use one hand operation + instead)

When will Samsung fix this?? This is getting over-ridiculous... It's been fixed on Vanilla Andorid like in last September ?????

One dont you guys just use One Handed Operation+?? It's made by Samsung and allows for stock gesture navigation.

I think the animations are not the same, right?

When oneUI 2.5 comes out alongside the release of the note 20's this fall....then gestures in 3rd party launchers will be supported.

★How To Get True Immersive Mode/Fullscreen/Expanded Desktop in ANY Rom★

Want true fullscreen in any 7.1.1 Nougat rom? Want to be able to get maximum viewing space on your 6p? I have a treat for you!
Although the 6p screen is very large, I'm a huge proponent of maximizing screen real estate.
I found this setup is awesome because it gives you so much more viewing screen for everyday use. For example, in Chrome, now you can see so much more of a web page and it makes your viewing space so much better:
1) All in One Gestures App: enable fullscreen (within the app to get true fullscreen/immersive mode. Expanded desktop rocks. Massively improved viewing space baby!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...gestures&hl=en
2) Download Swipe Navigation App: from playstore. This is AWESOME. Enables swipe gestures to navigate and swipe as opposed to having a physical navbar. This saves huge amounts of screen real estate. At the bottom of the screen, left swipe up is back, middle swipe up is home, and right swipe up becomes recents. (This is so cool).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...vigation&hl=en
3) In a build prop editing app (I recommend BuildProp Editor), paste this line and save:
qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1
(this removes the on-screen navigation bar, now you have awesomely improved screen real estate!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...p.editor&hl=en
Can you use the build prop edit to hide nav bar in 7.1.1 last I knew it wasn't possible.

it's possible to hide the navbar. it's not possible to change its height (through substratum). maybe that's what you heard
Hmm. Keyboard won't work when you enable immersive mode in All in One Gestures. Kind of a deal-breaker.
Edit: tried out Swipe Navigation and the build.prop edit. Works perfectly right now. I was a little worried after restarting the phone because the Swipe Navigation app didn't start right away (I couldn't back out of an application, lol). But it started up in less than a minute and everything is good. I'm going to use for a while and maybe buy the $1.50 add-on that unlocks custom actions.

Please don't spread misinformation. The keyboard DOES certainly work when you enable immersive mode in All in One Gestures. Everything works perfectly. I've been running this setup for 3 weeks and it works like a dream. This isn't the crappy GMD fullscreen buggy app, lol.

This app from the play store is the best that I have seen. Cost $1.99, I brought it with google play credits from the google surveys. It will give you the tiles in your toolbox and everything. You can hide the status bar, the nav bar, or both, plus alot extra. I use it. As long as your rooted there is no need to edit the build prop.

The reason why you need to edit the build prop, is because, if you want to use Swipe Gestures (the easiest and superior method for nav bar-less navigation imo) is because otherwise now you have two extra steps. You swipe up from bottom, and now you wait for the nav bar to 'come up'. You then hit the button you want. Takes time.
With my method, you instantly navigate with a gesture. One lightning fast action. That's why removing the nav bar in build prop is so important.
Also, the app you suggested costs money. Can be done better and at absolutely no cost.

I clearly stated to download the beta that i posted. It's like three months ahead of the 'stable' SuperSU development cycle.
What rom are you using? I'm using uberstock.
I flashed two other roms, and I was able to get the keyboard working in immersive mode in both.
Everyone felates and sucks off purenexus, but Uberstock runs circles around it in my opinion.

Navigation Gestures

Today I installed the app "Navigation Gestures" by XDA and it looks really beautiful on the phone.
I also used the app "Blank Icons" to create a blank space in the lower part of the home screen, so that I had nothing under the navigation pill. (See attached screenshot)
I think the app is worth a try!
EDIT: the navigation buttons disappear if you are on one of the stock themes; with other themes they remain visible underneath the bar.

Guys it has been achieved through ADB

But you have to use the XPERIA 10 launcher port or else the stock launcher will crash if you try going to recents menu.

Hi, I'm using the navigation gestures app with the oneplus preset on my stock sony Z5, but I'm facing an issue with the stock home launcher. I have an empty space between the dock and the bottom end of the screen (exactly where the navigation bar was). I tried all the compatibility and advanced settings in the app but makes no difference. How do you solve the issue?
p.s. no problem with other launchers.
Thank you

Hi! Actually I quit using xda's Navigation Gestures, and I'm currently on Fluid Navigation Gestures beta - thath I find more customizable.
With that said, I didn't have that problem with the first releases of the app (although I had a large space between the first row on the home screen and the dock, as you can see in the image in my previous post; that's present also in Fluid N. G.).
Try installing and old version of the app (they shold be still available on the Telegram group) and see how it works, maybe it's a bug introduced with latest releases and you can report it to the developers!
(Sorry if I couldn't be very helpful)

Hi, no worries and thank you anyway. Yesterday I installed a newer version of Xperia home (posted by someone here on xda) and it solved the issue.
I also gave a try to fluid navigation and it's properly good. I'll stay with it for a while to see if works better.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Hello everyone
I want to share simple trick, unfortunately requires root...
I love navigation gestures app it is so customizable!
Here are my setting which I liked most:
-Home like in Samsung gestures down swipe
-Recent app down, centered, hold
-Back right side of screen swipe
-Split screen down, left and swipe hold
-last app down, right and swipe hold
Ta-dah! now you have improved android 10 gestures (you decide if you wish have visible pill or not)
As you can see I have whole screen to use
What I have done is reachable in two ways:
-Install app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.conena.navigation.bar.remover
-Manual build.prop edition. Search line in build.prop located or vendor partition and edit it from
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
to
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Reboot
I'm not responsible if you corrupt your device, I'm just sharing what I did...
On xz1c with lineageos16 I used app
On XZ1 with lineageos16 I edited manuallymanuall if I'm wrong just correct me... I'm only a human

Have fun!
Edit: I flashed Sony apps enabler and installed apkmirror or play store Sony apps including home music album
Other advantage for editing qemu.hw.mainkeys is you got one more column on statusbar!

How to Enable Android Oreo style multitasking cards

Hi Guys,
I've made a video demonstrating how I accidentally enabled the Android Oreo style multitasking cards, pretty cool as I hate the new Android P style.
https://youtu.be/-gra_UFSBGE
the commands is:
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
Ensure you have another launcher installed and enabled BEFORE removing the stock launcher.
Also note you will loose the stock gestures if you enable it, only the back command works.
So I had to overscan the screen to remove the Nav bar, as using immersive mode broke the lock screen.
Great! By the way, how can I revert back if I ever want to have the Huawei Launcher back?

Yer the only way to revert back is to reset the phone back to factory settings, unless you side load the APK file for the Huawei EMUI 9.0 Launcher (if you save a copy).
But no love lost for me, IMHO it's a crap launcher and multitasking interface...

When using the system gesture navigation mode, It breaks the swipe up and swipe up and hold from the bottom of the screen.
And unfortunately even using the edge gesture application to replace those, it won't allow it, it's somehow blocks it.
The back gestures work tho.
You can use the regular nav bar and then a gesture application and then swipe up works, but enabling immersive mode breaks the lock screen (shows up black with a delay to display the lock screen).
So I use and combination of system gesture mode, for the back command and full screen mode, and edge gestures for the rest (from the sides of the screen), however tap and tap and hold do work on the btm of the screen using edge gestures, just not swipe up as described above.
If anyone can get the swipe up to work that would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need to Uninstall important packages that you might want to re-enable later.
It is possible to just disable them, and keep the files available for easy re-enabling!
* FIRST OF ALL:

pm list packages | sort
* TO DISABLE A PACKAGE (for example the Huawei launcher):
pm disable-user --user 0 <Package Name>

I like the new P multitasking. The old stack multitasking was nightmare. You were able only to switch to the previuos apps since all others were hidden behind. The EMUI 9 implementation is similar to the EMUI 4.1. The only thing that I miss from 4.1 is the long press action on the recent app. In the EMUI 9 task switcher you need to long press the icon which is too small.
The EMUI 4.1 task switcher is maybe the best Android stock switcher.

I was having the same issue. You need to manually add permissions in the apps settings, then set the Pixel Launcher as your default and it won't crash.
So is this specific to Mate 20 pro? I'd like to try this on my Honor 8x.
I wish we could do this without breaking the gestures, I love them as they are more intuitive and donde waste any space like the nav bar did,

@Moriatier, you're back! After starting the world-famous V30 Frankenstein thread you just sort of disappeared!
I wrote up the instructions (later in the thread) but you were the one who really started the discussion.
You can use Substratum and even though it's made for Samsung devices, you can use the samsung system mods theme to change the nav bar height. I use it to set mine to zero so I can use gestures instead. But they have other height options in it. Probably best not to mess with any of the other parts in there though since it IS for Samsung devices. Although I got "more animation scales" in settings working too.

I use it to set mine to zero so I can use gestures instead. But they have other height options in it. Probably best not to mess with any of the other parts in there though since it IS for Samsung devices. Although I got "more animation scales" in settings working too.

Assuming you know how to use Substratum, just install this and set the nav height to the one you want and then reboot

And after you've done the nav bar 0 what mod or Application you used for gestures?

In OnePlus Gestures
you used the option,,hide navbar,, or just from substrate module did you make navigation 0 and then use gestures.... I ask because my phone is not rooted, i do not have any backup and i do not want to brick my Lg v30.

I believe you can use substratum without root in Oreo. It's been a while but I think I was using it before rooting. It uses a systemless method. Substratum has a fail safe in it where If it detects a problem like system ui keeps force closing so many times, it will disable the overlays and set it back to normal. So there isn't too much of a risk. I got myself in some situations where I couldn't do anything and just got a bunch of force closes but Substratum took care of it. Never had an issue with the Navbar overlay though. If you ever want the navbar back, you just go into Substratum and disable the overlay and reboot.
I'm rooted but the reason I didn't use OnePlus Gestures built in nav bar hide is because it had some minor annoyances. Like when I would unlock my device, the navbar would show for a split second then disappear. So I just felt, for me, it was better to use substratum and get rid of it all together. Although, with this method, you can actually toggle it off and on real quick.

So I do not have to use Substratum samsung system mods? There is another overlay in substratum to hide nav bar? And then to use gesture app..?

Unfortunately, the andromeda substratum plugin does not work ~ no connection ~ and samsung mods says that the option to make navbar 0 is not working in oreo.... Sad... I"ll reinstall my Windows 10 and tray again.... I really want to use gesture navigation with this beautifull phone.

PSA: Enable Gesture Nav with 3rd Party Launchers (Nova, LawnChair, etc)

FYI if you run the following command in ADB setting a 3rd party launcher as the default, it will switch back to Gesture Nav.
Code:
adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural
I love Nova and this works great for me.

On my S10+ there was a weird navigation bug using the adv command to enable gestures. Do you experience anything different on the S20?
There is a quick flash that makes the multi task view show for a fraction of a second, but it is super quick and totally bearable.
I love you. Super needed this.
Is there anyway to have this continue after a reboot? It seems to stop working after one.
Yeah worked for me as well - seems like a little lag but overall bearable.
Works with Shade Launcher! Thanks!

The manufacturers need make Google's patch that fix this issue available, most OEMs haven't made it available yet. Without root, there isn't a way to make it stick or work flawless unless we get that patch
The initial Android 10 release wasn't playing nicely with third-party launchers — to use the

You have to turn on USB Debugging in Developer settings and have adb on your PC. Connect your phone to your PC then run the adb command in terminal.
I'm patiently waiting and hoping they patch this so I can go back to Nova i don't have a PC to do this method

You can use the onehand operation+ app from the galaxy store instead. I find it even better than the default Samsung's gesture in term of customization. Work with Nova

I second that. One Hand Operation+ is awesome. I have been using it on S9+. As an addition I encourage to use other GoodLock apps with the use of NiceLock.

One handed operation app is awesome. I use it too.
What I am looking for, personally, is way to have a similar task switcher like Android 10 default in junction with this. I super hate the 3 button layout but I want the Google feed so I had to swap to a new launcher.
"Vivid NG" app is all you need
So I enabled Onehanded Operation+, and when I set Nova as my default launcher, it still seems to want to use the other navigation buttons along with Onehanded Operation+ . Is there a way to only use Onehanded Operation+ and hide or disable the system navigation?
