Hi All
I have recently purchased a Sony Xperia 1 smartphone from new and I am having problems with the signal from the phone. I'm on the three network and I'm only getting 1 bar if lucky if not no signal from areas that normally have strong signal. My last phone the Sony Xperia xz I never had any problems so I switch the sim back to my Xz premium and 3 to 4 bars so put the sim back to the Xperia 1 1 bar possible on bars. So obviously not a network problem. I have spoken to Sony who have asked me to carry out things and factory reset the phone without any luck. Has anyone had this problem or anyone have any experience with this fault?
Adam
Do you have a case on it? If yes, remove and try again. Signal strength bars are not always the true measuring stick. Go to Settings>About Phone> Sim Status and see what the readings show for both your phones in the same location
Ho! Thank you for the tip!
Just checked with my friend S10e, both with the same operator.
-109dB for the S10e, and -115dB for my xperia 1 (my workplace is like a Faraday cage so signal is really poor). The signal is 4 time weaker with the Sony. Now I know why I struggle sometimes, Xperia 1 doesn't have a really good signal reception.
Its the firmware. Android 9 worked fine and now android 10 sucks and we have huge signal drops.
No issues here with T mobile in the netherlands, i run on android 10 also and have always full bars.
Unfortunatelly the same problems. Sony support asked for factory reset, did not help. No more support. Old phone 3g coverage whole flat, Sony Xperia 1 II without 3G signal or not measurable. Horrible signal reception quality.
Yes!!! 1-2 bar? I've never had a phone with 1 bar before??? In certain places there is no signal at all??? Dumbfounded.

Somy using best ever signal antenna in mobiles but the problem is Modem Config, firmware is made for each region deferent. If you check *#*#Service#*#* then service info and then software info then check down last 2nd modem Config should be Unknown. Thats the issue, if you using Japanese firmware then maybe you will find something Jp_softbank like this but in global rom modem config will be unknown. For make it global you need some modifications in firmware which is 100% easy and you will get Volte also.

Hello everyone, I am having a problem with my new Xperia P. I first got the phone on ICS. 54 FW and for some reason the option to select Network Mode (switch to GSM only, WCDMA only, etc.) was greyed out. I noticed that in an area with conflicting GSM/3G signal my phone lost signal for extended periods. I though by flashing a new ROM (Vision V4) that the issue would be solved. I flashed and am now able to access the Network Mode selection. It was on WCDMA preferred/GSM and I clicked GSM only, the phone immediately rejected this and went t\back to the state that it had been in. This is basically making my phones network features useless and I suspect the battery life is suffering as well. I flashed stock .75 ICS and even back to .54 ICS and the same issue occurs no matter what I flash. I went into the "hidden menu" accessed via button combination in the dialer and tried manually selecting GSM only from the list of preferred networks and the same issues occurs, no matter what option I choose, the phone immediately changes back to WCDMA preferred/GSM. This would not be as big an issue as it is if I lived somewhere else with better signal, but my home and work environment are both like this so it is a major issue.
I urgently need help in this matter, I have read about similar issues but either the thread has no replies or the suggestions do not work. I had read about some Sony forum members asking if I the persons had cut their micro SIM. I have, so I ordered a new micro SIM ready to be activated and it's on its way. These suggestions about the micro SIM were also answered with replies stating that they changed out the SIM and the error still occurs and I suppose it will more that likely persist in my situation.
If anyone could, I really need some help. Thank you for reading.

Hey mate,
Im not sure but I think you have a wrong baseband which might be causing the issue. (not sure cause i remember hearing somewhere that P covers all bandwidth etc )
If that might be the case, you need an FTF for your specific model to flash its baseband
Again, not sure so try this only if you dont get any replies soon

Yeah, I think it may be something with my baseband. Every now and then I get an "R" above the signal display meaning I am technically roaming but this is very random. I don't really see any flashable basebands for the Xperia P though. I will do more research though and thank you for the suggestion. :good:
Well, couldn't find anything so I just sent it back to the seller for a replacement. Mine had a bad pixel on the screen anyway. Here's to getting one that works in about 2 weeks..
I too have the same issue but my problem is that my device freezes the touchscreen on 2g network. On every Rom that I have tried.. I am still waiting for a fix..
Tried to change the SIM and network still the same..

Yes, that is very weird.. Are you still able to switch network modes? I'm on AT&T so the network compatibility should be fine, I'm just guessing we have defective units.. I emailed Sonymobile about the issues and got a response telling me that some carriers have a lock on their networks. This isn't true though because I have plenty of phones (Android and other) that had worked with 2G/3G with the option to select and it worked fine. I do this to all the Android phones I have ever owned. Hoping the JB update addresses the many issues we are all having with the many ICS iterations. I wanted to stop using Japanese smartphones (currently having to use F-10D until I get a good replacement) because of the hassle with use between countries and there being no development existent. I thought I could get a headache free experience from a less strict supplier but it seems I just can't have a good experience.
Like I said, I sent in for a replacement and should be getting one soonish, I don't know what I'll do if the same problem occurs except just wait for JB and see what it holds.
Can anyone with this phone on AT&T confirm that my phone was defective and not just (supposedly) carrier related?
I bought it from Saudi Arabia, only 3g works but freezes in 2g after some usage.. I am from India. I think unlocking SIM LOCK of my phone might fix the issue..

Hello
I got my xperia z2 D6503 2 days ago brand new sealed. I inserted my Net10 sim and it worked like 1 day and than I noticed that there was signal issue first I thought it was because of area than I found out it was phones fault since same sim card worked perfectly on my old xperia z and also on xperia z2 Tab and on my brothers galaxy s4. strange thing is it shows low signal only when LTE is on and I can send and receive text messages but I can't make calls. as soon as I turn off LTE it looses signal and no text or call go through.
I tried factory reset, 2 different sim cards, even bought new sim card, numerous restarts and nothing helps. searched web for this issue and nothing at all.
so anyone else had this experienced? any solutions?
thanks

Same issue with my z2... only when I hold it a certain way... I'm on Bell mobility in Canada and got the phone a few days ago.
I've been experiencing the same issue ever and I've had my phone over a month, I'm on EE in the uk running the .55 firmware. My phone is currently in repair to fix this problem so I'll get back to see if it can be fixed
Sony has no solution in USA and can't repair so I returned for exchange to seller. I though it was only me so looks like gonna be big issue

Hey, so did the exchange solve the problem for you? I am using NET10 as well and while I do get signal on all networks (2G. 3G, etc..) I notice that it isn't as good as almost any other phone I've had. I live in an area that has poor signal and places that I get 1-2 bars on other phones I get 0-1 on this phone, though when I'm in upper town where signal is great I get about the same as others do. I'm just not sure if my phone is defective or this is just how it is. I really don't want to wait to exchange plus the seller seems reluctant to do so..
I had to fix my APN (wireless &networks -> mobile data).
I Google the correct settings for my carrier(ATT/USA), and saved the updates and it worked IMMEDIATELY.
it's been solid since ever since. Note there are differences for the 3g VS LTE versions. Make sure you enter the right settings.
Good luck!

I did entered correct APN's as I mentioned it was working great for almost day and Than suddenly stopped working so if I had entered wrong APN's it wouldn't worked first time I powered it on. plus same sim card worked well on other LTE phone while was not working on my new Z2, so it was not APN issue.
Try rebooting 3-4 times and then wait. This should solve the problem.
Check the baseband version online and on your phone.
There is also a firmware update but you have to cable your phone to a computer and let it install the Sony software on the PC/MAC ... Mine updated yesterday...
Worth a shot if you haven't done so already.

Thanks man, it seems that's just how the phone is, maybe I can stop worrying so much about that now, especially since this Z2 I have has no defects that are so plentiful on other user's phones.
And like I said, it's not such a big deal when I'm in places with adequate coverage so it's tolerable. I updated to .402 yesterday and there isn't any change with signal but I'm holding out for more updates that can help out with coverage. I'm thinking once the Z2 is released in some way in the US (carrier or Sony store) that there will be an update then that may help us out.
I'm probably the last person to be offering advice in this forum, however, just a couple days ago I noticed I had no data connectivity at all. Calls and texting still worked, but no cellular data. All my APN setting were correct and even though airplane mode was not selected, turning it off and on again got my data connection back. Just something stumbled upon and I have no idea if it applies to anyone elses issue here. Just thought I'd toss it out there in case it helps just one person.

Solve which problem? The one i posted in very first post or the weak signal on my replacement? I did more than 5 reboots to solve first proble but nope.
Now this very weak signal worries me it loosed signal at places where my old Z was great. Hope this phone doesn't end up super problematic

Sony Service will service/replace the set, if needed. So please do check in there.
phone is amazing everything works smooth, but weak signal is getting on my nerves! looses signal very often and data gets really slow because of low signal even when LTE is available. I live in brooklyn ny and my xperia Z didn't have this issue at all. hopefully this could be fixed soon by software update.

Same problem
My sisters got the same problem,
Help line, Tech team no help what so ever !!!
Been on the phone for over 2 weeks !!!
They wont solve the problem what so ever !
One tech team even said "buy a new phone" !! such great customer service !!
They are wanting £150 for it so it can be "fixed"..... also wanting £40 for the month contract despite not having the phone !!!
I understand who you feel... they are no use what so ever and rude...
So around 3 weeks ago I got a brand new unlocked Z2 D6503. As it says, it supports LTE and the bands it support are available and broadcasted here in KSA.
I'm on the operator Zain KSA and when I manually search for mobile networks, I do see the LTE network by the operator but whenever I select it, it doesn't register on it.
I've tried everything from calling/visiting the network operator from changing the SIM and getting a new one.
The FW I have is .314
Anyone has any experience or any idea? Do I need to reflash the FW?
May be enter the correct APN settings for your carrier?

Firstly, are you on an LTE plan? For Singapore, we need to sign up to an LTE plan and the operator has to do the necessary activation, before we can register on the LTE network.

That's the thing, I already had 4G activated, and I specially got it deactivated and activated again on this handset. 4G coverage is in my area, each and everything is in optimal condition. The network operator says everything is also fine at their end...

Yup everything is configured correctly
I can confirm that it is the handset that is not registering LTE.
I just popped in a working LTE SIM which has full coverage in my area and Z2 fails to register it...
Well I can't say much about LTE since I am on 3G data plan so can't use it. But the funny thing happened that I was on Edge connection, even tho I was in city centre and I could use 3G, it was full. So went into phone options and changed into 3G only and then Z2 has magically seen the better connection. Try to do that for LTE, maybe it will work. Otherwise I would flash other firmware or repair with PCC.

Okay so actually solved the issue.
I reinstalled/repaired the FW using Sony PC Companion and now LTE works perfectly. But the side effect? I heard that 4.4.2 causes many bugs and seems like I just got the phone sluggish one.
Phone feels sluggish in different parts as well as when I tap the recent icons button. Also the animation for WiFi turning on and off is not there anymore...
I don't know what's happening anymore....:/
I too have a bit of a lag when I hit recents menu button. I guess it's just the way Z2 is now and we have to wait for new firmwares, hopefully with less bugs, to come.
Happy for you that you fixed the problem with LTE

Yeah, seems like we'll just have to wait for 4.4.4 to hit...
Sad how the animations worked and there was no lag but sadly no LTE functionality. Such bad FW release.
And yeah atleast I fixed the LTE issue as I really can't stand slow internet and H+ seems pretty slow to me.
Same problem...install the new software through PC companion still the problem

Hello
I recently purchased this phone for a family member. We set it up yesterday, and found that the sim card from their old phone that we've inserted isn't capable of allowing the phone to make/receive texts/calls. It just says something along the lines of "Can't connect to mobile network", despite showing signal bars. When I checked the connectivity bands against the mobile network's, it appeared that the phone should at least support 2G & 3G. I'm in the UK and haven't modified the ROM.
Has anyone had this issue before, and does anyone know of a fix? I've heard that some of the newer official ROMs are better for connectivity, but I don't want to flash the phone and void its warranty if the fault lies with the phone.
Many thanks
Luke
Heyyo, hmm can you please provide more information?
Link to the exact product purchased
What country and network is being used?
Does your device say x820, x821, x822 or x829 on the back of it? If not does it say what it is in the settings > about phone menu?
Can you please specify which version of EUI ROM it is running? Should be in Settings > About Phone.
As for upgrading EUI ROM versions? That will not void warranty as long as you don't have the x829 with EUI ROM 5.8.016s.... which is what I had and x829 with 5.8.016s is garbage. So many darn problems with it and has software updates disabled even via recovery update.zip... I didn't stay on it long since LineageOS 13.0 at the time officially came to the x2 heh

I wasn't aware upgrading the ROM version didn't affect the warranty, that's nice to know
Hallo,
I believe I might have the same problem with the mobile network. In my case, I am quite certain that the battery is the problem. I got the phone some weeks ago, but I assume it was laying around for quite some time, which might be not very beneficial for the battery? Anyway, the voltage should be 4.4 V after loading and as long as the voltage stays above about 4 V, I have good data connection. But after a while, the voltage drops below 4 V and I do not have any connection anymore, despite showing all signal bars! Is it possible, that you see a similar behavior with your phone? If you load it on a charger, does your data work?

I personally do not experience this but I'm 100% sure that the voltage from the battery should stay around 4V. If this happens try turning on the battery saver and dimmer your screen so you can spread the battery load. Maybe it will work idk.

You are probably right in saying that the voltage should stay around 4 V. This is probably the case for new or at least well aged batteries. However, that seems not to be the case of my battery. According to the App that reads out the voltage, it sometimes drops to values as low as 3.6 V. Sometimes, the voltage recovers a bit, but typically, not enough to enable data connection, for which I believe to need at least around 4 V to work (reliably!).

I purchased a X820 from China (TomTop.com) and the junk had an EXTREMELY LOW signal.I NEVER received network signal at home.I have to go near a cell tower to get signal,as soon i drive away from the tower (around 5 blocks)i lost signal and could not make or receive calls..Remember that the company LeEco went out of business and the phones we buy today are NOT made by LeEco but are made by many private factories in China and in reality are cheap clones.I send the junk back and purchased a X829.Now i have very good signal and connection never dropsJust return your phone is defective..Here is a video i had to send to tomtop.com in order to get a refund.

I have exactly the same problem when the phone's battery level goes around 70% (~4v).
i.e. when battery drops below 70%, the network signal shows LTE with around 3 bars but there's no network connectivity and can't make/receive phone call. But as soon as I plug in the charger, everything works perfectly! This happens on all ROMs.
I wish there is a solution for this.
same problem for me .....
Today ,
NO WAY to have working Network mobile on a Leeco LE 2 x526 with last stock rom 28s installed on it. NOW i can call on 3G but no voice ,,,,, but i can't be called. .....after restart with / without APN / searchable 3G/4G network Digi.Mobile ...signal is lost and is cost me allot of time and energy . i even lost any hope .....(coul be a hardware problem ?)
Operation made until now
1.install 3 stock roms 19 , 21 and 28
2.install another 6 custom roms 6,7,8.1(miui , havoc, lin14.1 , 15.1, aosp extended ,Bootleggers. RR , Cr ,Small_EUI ,purenexus,cuoco )
3.reset SIM 1+2
4.sparse india image
5.write lost IMEI
6.write new baseband with DFS
7.flash modems firmware (MPSS (56347 , 61295 , 66782 and 68083))
8.try other Carrier SIMS ..... same problem
9.check any carrier server service ...nope
etc (rewrite a qcn file . different APN config , twrp 3.0.2.0 ydss )
I have real problems .....i need help (maybe someone have same problem or has read more infos from so many forums )
The same problem.
Only one person with name AGATSU83 something like this find the solution , and the solution never post it.
He help him LAZYE.
BUT I NOT UNDERSTAND he give us one site in russia and he told us that he find the solution.
I READ AND READ AND READ .........
BUT NOTHING.....
I BRICK MY PHONE 20 TIMES AND NOTHING.
MAYBE ONE DAY I FOUND THE SOLUTION AND I POST IT.
With a new battery we Can solve the problem? Anyone try it?

Many thanks
Luke

I believe your phone is a X829. Someone installed the X820 firmware to sell it easier. It doesn't have Band 20 for 4G. Tesco mobile is working on O2 network and they're using Band 20 for 4G network. Despite that it should work on 3G. In my opinion you should install a custom ROM and check things there...

Ended up just being too frustrating, so we returned it for a refund & bought a different phone instead...
It's a shame, aside from that one issue it seemed to be a great phone, especially for the price

I made the mistake and only got a partial refund.. Didn't know it had the focus issue... At least I got nearly half the money back. Network is working fine as I'm on Three..
Got a new Le X526. Always telling me server erroranytime I try to browse on anything but I have full network
Had the phone a week and was connected to Vodafone AU, connects to 4G but no VoLTE so it drops to 3G when making/receiving calls.
Yesterday it started to refuse to drop to 3G for calls and remained on 4G, internet on 4G was working fine, but because it refused to drop to 3G I was not having any luck with calls, manually trying to force it on 3G just ended up with no reception and no connection. Did a whole bunch of trouble shooting and reset network settings, even factory reset the phone and tried a different SIM from another provider, no luck... same issue, will not drop to 3G for making/receiving calls.
Once I used sim SLOT 2, everything was back to normal, I could manually force it on 3G, when making calls it will go from 4G to 3G as before and all is well.
Is the phone faulty and I need to get it replaced? is there something I can do to get sim SLOT 1 back working again?
It's really a problem where you need to just try and see if you find a fix.
If your provider offer no VoLTE try to do a software repair, no factory reset from inside the phone but a software repair with xperia companion. that will not reset the software on your phone but will download a new copy of the firmware (same then make a firmware reset with itunes and recovery mode compared to factory reset from iOS on iphone)

Thanks, will try with Xperia companion and see if it fixes to he problem.
I have the Xperia 1 II and flashed SEA firmware and Volte works flawlessly.
If you can be bothered flash SEA firmware to see if it works
Root & enable VoLTE

I've seen a few people mention the X1 ii can get VoLTE after flashing another region. Sadly no one with a X1 iii in AUS has confirmed they are able to get it working with any reflashed ROMs.
FYI my original issue with the 3G was resolved by doing a firmware repair using the Xperia companion.

Ohh good the problem was resolved with a software repair. However with Optus network 3G will be turned off April 2022 which I think in that situation anyone using the Xperia on Optus network with no volte wouldn't be able to place calls.

Yeah I heard the same.
Glad i'm with Vodafone AU as they have said no plans yet to turn off 3G since they have so many customers still using.

I hope someone can verify by flashing SEA firmware if volte will work for you.
I only flashed SEA firmware for faster updates which also resulted in volte working.
It made the phone a better experience overall

1 How can i tell what ROM i have (SEA,US,RU,HK etc)
2 I read in another forum that flashing non native ROM will cause OTA updates to fail and I would need to manually update via Xperia Companion (this is all for Xperia 1 iii)

I can't remember off the top of my head where to check Firmware region however you should be able to Google it.
I have flashed mine close to year ago and have received every update since. OTA works flawless.
I don't know about the Xperia 1 III though
With the xperia 1 iii, if you flash different region it will not allow OTA. I use flasher to flash update manually and for me it's fine as I'm using SEA also for VOLTE.
Wooow that's interesting that it doesn't do OTA updates as don't see what the issue is. I flashed firmware on phone and after that didn't really have to do anything as updates came through OTA.
Now I'm hesitant in getting the Xperia 1 IV as it may not work if flashed. It's a gamble to get volte to work. Also I much prefer OTA updates.
Might consider S22 Ultra if it checks out good. Sony has to do something exceptional for me to consider it. Fix screen brightness, fix battery life, fix volte, fix WiFi calling etc.

All asian version have the same bands, it only differs on the config. Since malaysia local xperia are SEA, then just flash the firmware then it will work. If xperia is not available locally, it will not be supported unless you root your phone and enable it.
