I've checked openkirin.net website and Mate 10 Lite its listed as compatible with EMUI8 and EMUI9, but on the download page (https://openkirin.net/download/) says so:
NOTE: These builds are to be used ONLY if your device is running EMUI 9, whether it came with it or if you upgraded your device to EMUI 9. If your device is NOT running EMUI 9, then please use one of the many EMUI 8-based builds below, as the EMUI 9-based builds WILL NOT work on your device.

How can it be compatible if our device needs to be EMUI9?

I don't know, but I can tell you the Honor folks in the US have repeatedly said "The 12th of Never"...so were I you, find a nice 7.1 Lineage based ROM and enjoy!
In one of the other threads, Huawei has indicated that there will be no emui 5 for Honor 5x, and therefore no Nougat. Huawei cited that google failed to provide them with an OS update:

No more emui 5
Hi,
I am using Honor 9i RNEL22 Phone. recently upgraded the software to EMUI 8.0 with this many apps are sucks and camera is not working as the previous, also has fast battery dragging issue,
So I am trying to rollback to the previous version of the EMUI which is 5.0,
I have followed the instruction which mentioned in the honor official site documentation using HiSuite, Their upgrade to the previous version is not available as mentioned in the documentation.
Please, anyone help me to rollback without rooting the device and also requested to provide me the link to download the STOCK ROM or EMUI 5.0 version download link.

I found this project, OpenKirin(openkirin.net), and I was wondering if these roms are compatible with Honor 10 (Honor View 10 is on the list, and Kirin 970 is supported, but I don't know if it's safe to install one of these in my Honor 10 device.

Its not compatible as Honor 10 has EMUI 8.1 where as those roms are based on EMUI 8.0. They have mentioned it in FAQ.

Since Emui 9.1 has been confirmed for Honor 10 (with open beta already live) I wanted to ask if anybody has seen real improvement over Emui 8.1 and 9.0, specially regarding memory management.

Jist got,9. 1, i tested it on benchmark, 9.0 was 112000 with 9.1 130-160k and when in fridge 210k and 250k
Hi Guys I need your help in downgrading my Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 from EMUI 9.1 to EMUI 8. I bought the device from middle east but I am using device now in India. Reason for downgrade is I am not able to use VOLTE services on any of Indian networks on EMUI 9 AND 10, whereas it was working fine on EMUI 8.
I can downgrade from 10 to 9 Via Hisuite but there is no further option to rollback to Emui 8 via Hisuite. I tried downloading stock firmware for Emui 8.0 and tried via recovery mode but installation failed for downgrade.
I need your help guys as many are experts here.
