IMEI trouble with redmi 5 plus - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi guys, my uncle has given me his redmi 5 plus (Vince) for tinkering around or to fix, to say.
It was dead after minor ingress of water droplets. And person who my uncle gave phone to, recovered the mobile but it's IMEI numbers are lost.
So it's not getting any network.
So far I tried to flash lot many ROMs on it, developer global, global stable, China stable but condition is same.
Strange thing I observed is, in fastboot mode miflashtool gives error for all the ROMs...
Modem error.
And I can flash successfully only in edl model with testpoint method.
Btw mobile is stock, i.e bootloader is locked and it's not rooted. Has stock recovery as well.
And I can't unlock bootloader without Sims functioning based on requirements of xioami.

I could re instate imei numbers finally with one desktop app and opening diag port with ussd code but still mobile isn't getting any network (with back cover opened. I haven't installed it back yet since it's too hard to remove it if required. Don't know whether it has something to do with network reception.)
Don't know what's the reason as I am not aware of telecom technicalities like baseband etc.
So any inputs are welcome and appreciated.

[Q] Official network unlock not working i9300

Hi everyone,
I come to you as I am a noob as far as twinkering with my gt i9300 goes and I think I messed it up big time.
Here is what I did :
I had android 4.2.1 on my gt i9300, the stock rom from sfr (french career).
I network unlocked it using my career official unlock code, which worked great. It recognized my japanese career sim very well (i am in japan now).
Then I got greedy and wanted to update my android version so I downloaded a 4.4 android rom from I don't remember well, and a cwm manager.
The network unlock worked fine at first but after a restart it did not work anymore. It asked me for a network unlock pin.
I thought it was asking for a sim pin at first, which my sim did not have as I hadn't set one. I got mad trying sim pin code and gave up. Had I given it the network unlock code instead of possible sim pin code it might have worked but I will never know.
Then I tried to solve the problem installing android 5.1 cyanogen version but I had the same problem except this time I understood it was asking for the network unlock code. The problem is that when I fed it to him, it did not work, the request was unsuccessful.
So I looked for a solution on internet and found all kind of things:
I read about restoring the efs partition, but i do not have any back up.
I read about installing a stock rom version, change the csc and retry the official network unlock code, but it does not work, whether I restore through Kies (which gives me a vodafone version) or manually (with an sfr version, french vodafone it seems).
I read about installing Galaxy simunlock app after rooting the phone and installing userbox, but it tells me that my locking system is not handled as it is too new.
I upgraded, downgraded, rooted in every possible way but nothing works.
I am running out of solution and I therefore turn to you for help, hoping you will be more creative than me.
I have the official network unlock code, the phone, no back up of any kind and really little hope.
Thank you in advance for any help you could give me !
Have a nice day !
Sadly you didn't make a backup of efs. That should be first thing before playing with customs.
Oh well, I suppose your efs may be screwed up due to entering couple times bad network unlock key.
I suggest go to next corner GSM shop and pay 2400JPY for efs fixing and perm sim unlock. But before that, check your IMEI and serial number are correct. Thay can fix all of this in one step.
You need to do this via box, you can't reprogram that or fix yourself because you did everything that may help and you still have a problem. You can't use any software on efs v2. It will not work.

Thank you for your quick answer !
I will follow your advice and go to a "professional".
However I don't understand how they are able to do what I can't, do they have special softwares or anything ?
I would like to know because I do have the official unlock code.
Also, I would still like to upgrade to android 5.1 cyanogen version, do you think it will be possible after such a modification ?
I should not encounter any risk if I backup the efs beforehand right ?
Thank you again
Service will connect your phone to, so called, box, ie Z3X Box. This is some kind of pc-phone bridge hardware which can alow to decrypt and encrypt efs files, fix IMEI, serial number, flash firmware, IMEI certificate, remove network locks, sim locks etc.
Of course you can backup your efs now but it is corrupted and useful. Backup this partition after repair. Than you will be able to flash anything you want. Even CM12.1,no problem.

Ok I understand better now.
Thank you very much for your answers, they have been really helpful !
Do not let them plug your phone to the box if you want to install 4.4 or 5.0 because if you give them they will replace your imei number with a clon imei number and you will stuck with max 4.3 and you need to install a patched modem and kernel every time you format your phone... tell them to try to fix without replacing your imei number first. Replacing the imei number should be the last thing to do...
Why do you think they will clone his phone's IMEI? It's even illegal.
If someone doesn't know how to use box than he should not work in GSM service.
You can rewrite original IMEI and serial number without cloning anything.
An probably IMEI is fine, it's network lock problem.

Most repair shops dont care its legal or not. Also most costumers dont know this kind of things and as long as phone is working its okay for them. Mine is just a warning to make him look like he knows this things so repairman doesnt do something with no going back...

Redmi Note 3 Pro (SD) does not start after flashing global developer

Hello everyone, I have a problem on 2 telefoni.Ho purchased 3 redmi notes 3 pro (SD) for my family, one arrived with Italian and the other 2 no, I upgraded via miflash to my and I mounted version "Note 3 qualcomm last global developer version fastboot" on the official site en.miui.com and work fine on my device.
I then tried to do the same procedure on the other two phones arrived in China and end of the flash without any error and selecting the option to flash, none of the two phones on but at some point I get this error message:
Encryption was interrupted and can't be completed. As a result, the data on your phone is no longer accessible. to resume using your phone you need to perform a factory reset. when you set up your phone after the reset you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that backed up to your google account.
The phone at this point is blocked, dont start.
The bootloader is blocked!!
To remedy I tried to flash another rom, rom work with the other mobile phones but no longer read the sim !!
Now the questions are two:
1) How is it possible that on 3 identical cell and performing the same procedure one works and 2 no ??
2) that I could mount version that has the Italian as the language ??
If you were to continue to have the error not advise me sims to perform the procedure for the recovery dell'imei ?? I checked in the settings and under the written SIM1 and SIM2 is an IMEI code ....

Hi Dear, I have same situation like yours
did u find any solution?
best regards
Did you select clean all before flashing ?

I apologize for writing late but I really take long to find the solution to my problem that I have solved the question in a casual mode...!!
I purchased this 3 cell, at the same store but at different time, the first phone is a snapdragon edition, but the other 2 phone are SPECIAL EDITION....
The store sent me the different phones and do not know why, without telling me, the outer box is not clear, bear the same inscription.
I found out by accident, approaching the phones, I realized that one was slightly longer than the other and doing a search I found the measures that explained the difference, are therefore come to the conclusion that the two phones arrived after they were SPECIAL EDITION, would never have started with the Rom Snapdragon, downloaded the correct version everything is back to normal !!
All's well that ends well!!
Thanks!!

[Resolved] Redmi note 3 pro used with Europe SIM card blocked in emergency mode

My phone's SIM card is not working as expected:
- it is recognized (The phone asks me for the password when he detects the SIM card and code is accepted)
- it says "No service" and of course, I do not get any services (no phone calls, SMS or data)
My history on this device so far (in case it matters):
- This SIM card worked when I received the phone from gearbest (and I upgraded to latest MIUI 8.0.5) and I could make a test call and send/receive SMS.
- Then I wanted to install CM13, I had to go to the unlocking procedure that didn't work as expected and required me to install Global Dev Roms (and this didn't work as expected) so I finished by flashing nearly all of the ROMs (Global, Global dev, China, china dev) using EDL mode. Quite quickly I notice that I lost functionalities upon the simcard : on some ROMs it would not even been seen (no sim card displayed, nor Wifi).
- I had to resort to a bootloader hack to reach unlocked state because official way did not work at all (blocked at 50%). And got on my way to install CM13... most ROMs would have the exact same problem than the official images: no sim card detected (and no Wifi neither BTW).
- It is only on the very latest ROMs for kenzo CM13, (> 2016-10) that I got back Wifi and sim card detection. Unfortunately, the sim card is still in Emergency mode and states "No Service"
- I flashed many NON-HLOS.bin with TWRP without seeing any changes (7.1.7 and 7.1.8 for the latest), but would be happy to get a link to the latest ones to continue trying.
- flashing the radio.zip mentionned in many comments breaks back to the "no Wifi and no SIM card detected" state, hopefully re-flashing NON-HLOS.bin 7.1.8 has re-enable previous better but incomplete state.
More raw info:
- the sim card is valid: it works in another phone straight away
- the antenna cable seems securely fastened (I opened the phone just to check this)
- I still have an IMEI when dialing *#06#, and it matches the number written on the sticker inside the phone.
- it behaves strangely when using the test interface *#*#4636#*#* : no network is displayed, has network type of "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" that I can't change despite the many other choices listed in the menu. I can't also turn on radio signal.
Any help/suggestions to get back my 3G/4G SIM card services ?
==== THE ANSWER ===
Thanks to @corkiejp:
I don't have Kenzo (Standard Chinese Redmi Note 3 Pro) architecture but Kate (International Redmi Note 3 Special Edition).
How to check your version.
I needed only to flash the correct KATE radio firmware to sort it out.
Flash correct fastboot rom for your device again
@vaab69 Are you sure you have the "Kenzo" version? Maybe you got the "Kate" model and are flashing the wrong roms for your device.
Telling the Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) and Special Edition (Kate) apart!

Can you be more precise ? What is "correct" fastboot rom ? I have many of them, and already flashed all of the official ones (stables and dev, global and chinese, MIUI) and that didn't bring my SIM services back.

Wow, thanks, this was it ! I spent a lot of time on this skimming through many places. Dunno how I have not came across this !
I just applied the kate radios, and Tada ! it worked.
More info BTW for any other guy stumbling on this thread and wanting to get straight with KATE:

Is there any special things to do on the thread to mark it resolved, or to thank you ?

sim card slot 2 cannot be used in REDMI NOTE 3 PRO SNAPDRAGON

dear seniors, believe me i've tried to search for awhile for a solution and posts with similar problem, but unfortunately i coundlnt find it.
so here's the deal,
i am in indonesia, for some reason certain certain xiaomi devices that is sold in here is bootloader locked and 4G LTE BLOCKED.
unsatisfied with the condition i tried to find a solution for that and yes, the answer is there.
after fooling around for a few days (official unlock request and granted, rom flashing, and custom recovery flashing), i managed to somehow break the device (baseband "unknown", and IMEI missing for both sim slots). Tried to find a solution (yes, there was a solution to this), but before executing the solution, because it seems it can only recover IMEI in sim slot 1, i tried to flashback the rom with the original official rom (global stable 8.0.5.0) and the problem was fixed, both IMEI EXISTED.
so i assume the problem was gone, kept using it for few days with only 1 sim card, everything was fine, but then i tried to use 2 sim cards at the same time, and there it goes like this :
- when i use both sim slots, both sim card keeps restarting to find a signal, its like they cannot get a hold on a stable signal.
- when i use only sim 1, but sim 2 is used for SD card, everything is good.
- when i use only sim 2, but sim 1 is empty, the problem persisted, the signal keeps on restarting.
by those conditions i assume the problem is in sim card slot 2.
I noticed this redmi note 3 only have 1 IMEI number for both simcards, but i dont think that is the problem, because i checked other redmi note 3 phone, they dont have this problem (they also havent tried to unlocked BL, flash roms, etc) and i also tried to write the IMEI 2 SIM and changed the last number, so the IMEI on sim 1 and sim 2 is different by the last number, but still the problem persisted.
i really hope any one here will be kind enough to help me with this problem.
REDMI NOTE 3 PRO SNAPDRAGON, OFFICIAL FIRMWARE V8.0.5.0 LHOMIDG.
THX A BUNCH
Not having solution..best bet to read the threads about EFS recovery.
But a question, why have you posted to wrong section? This is Guide section and not Q&A
Sent from RN3 Pro

Both sims detected and No service.

I just got a Note 3 with SD. After years not not running custom roms on my phones ( samsung note 2 days) I came back.
So I tried to flash and unlock the bootloader so I can have a custom recovery,Root and other stuff. I used miflash/adb fastboot rom method and failed, after a lot of google and time on forums I managed to get the phone to work.
The problem is that after 10 custom roms and flashing many different miui fastboot roms and modems files, I still cant get my cell radio turn on no matter what rom/modem.zip or other trouble shooting method I try.
This is my last resort, and that is too beg for help.
Both sims are detected, but "search networks" results in error while searching and dialing *#*#4636#*#* shows the radio is off.
Grateful I will be, for any help!
Thanks
