Hello,
I suddenly lost all my WhatsApp messages for no reason, and restoring them from my local backup does not work. Can you help me fixing this issue?
Let me explain:
In January I used the app « Import That App Messages from Windows Phone », in order to recover my WhatsApp messages from my old Windows phone to my new Android phone. I successfully performed the data transfer process to this phone (OnePlus 7T Pro, Android 10).
However today when I opened the WhatsApp app I suddenly got a message which said something like « Your chat history stopped working. You can restore your data by clicking on Restore ». I chose Restore but it actually only restored empty group discussions, without any messages inside, and no discussion were restored. Then, in the WhatsApp settings I checked my backup settings and saw there was a Google Drive backup dated of January (which corresponds to the moment I originally transferred my data from my old Windows Phone) and a local backup from February (which contains important new messages arrived in the meantime).
So I decided I would try to restore the local backup, since it is more recent.
I uninstalled WhatsApp, then installed it again and followed the instructions until it asked me to restore from a Google Drive backup. At this moment I turned off my Internet connection, clicked on Continue, waited until a message told me something like « The research is taking longer than expected ». Then I clicked on Skip so that WhatsApp detected my local backup and asked me if I wanted to restore it. I clicked on Restore, then the process started with a progression bar, but when the bar arrived at 100% I got an error message proposing me to Ignore or to Look for an older backup. The 1st button led to a restore only of empty group discussions.
I uninstalled WhatsApp again, did the same process and tried the 2nd button, which led to a search for a Google Drive backup, which I don’t want to use.
I tried the process several times but it failed every time.
I precise that in my internal phone storage I kept a folder « WhatsApp » inside which I have 3 visible folders: Backups, Databases, and Media. There are also 4 hidden folders: .Shared, .StickerThumbs, .Thumbs, and .trash.
Inside Backups there are 4 files: chatsettingsbackup.db.crypt1, statusranking.db.crypt1, stickers.db.crypt1, and wallpaper.bkup.
Inside Databases there is 1 file: msgstore.db.crypt12 (which I believe is the main backup file to recover my messages).
Inside Media there are 10 folders : .Status, WallPaper, WhatsApp Animated Gifs, WhatsApp Audio, WhatsApp Documents, WhatsApp Images (this folder contains all my pictures sent and received), WhatsApp Profile Photos, WhatsApp Stickers, WhatsApp Video, and WhatsApp Voice Notes.
I really need help. Can you help me restore my messages? What should I do?
Thank you a lot in advance!

Hi all, i guess it's is already mentioned.. but i couldnt find it after searching for almost a day.
I have old whatsapp messages that i want restored, could anyone explain me the way how to do it?
greetings,
Gertjan
I'm not quite sure what your problem is. Did you change the device or reinstall whatsapp and want to restore a backup?
In general it should work following these steps:
http://www.teamandroid.com/2011/08/21/how-to-backup-chat-messages-in-whatsapp/
Follow the steps below to backup your Whats chat conversations:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Press the Menu key, and go to ‘Settings’.
- Scroll down and go to ‘More’;.
- Now tap once on “Chat History Backup” and backup will start.
That’s it! Next time when you re-install WhatsApp after a full reset, you will be asked to restore your previous backup (which is stored on your SD card).
Click to collapse
If not, we need some more information...
However I guess it's not that useful too have all those older messages in whatsapp, because they are just filling the internal space and you can't easily access them (you would have to press "load older messages" again and again and whatsapp will become slower and slower ...).
A good possibility is to transfer the full whatsapp backup to your PC and use a tool called "Whatsapp Extractor" to display all the conversations.

is there a way to restore iphone whatsapp backup/history to android htc one X?
Re: Whatsapp reader or restore old messages
WhatsApp automatically makes backups every 24 hours and stores them on the microSD memory card of your Android phone. To restore the deleted messages of WhatsApp, you will need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore the lost message history of WhatsApp. Choose restore your missing chats.
Today I woke up in the morning and saw that all my whatsapp messages were deleted, I did not perform any back or restore from any backup utility such as Titanium backup. I am on Android 4.3 on Samsung note 2.
I tried to uninstall whatsapp and re-install again, it asked for restoring messages from backup folder but only restored messages till date 30-Dec-2013, although message backup was present with latest backup of yesterday’s date i.e. 23-Feb-2014.
Please let me know how can I restore all the messages and resolve this issue.

Have you tried whatsapp migrator tool?
:good:
Try this way
Have you tried to restore by WhatsApp. If you have done a backup, messages, chats can be easily restored. If not, try Android Data Recovery on RecoveryAndroid. I used it to get my lost Whatsapp messages back days ago.:highfive:
I just rooted my phone to install the Google edition ROM but before I did I backed up my texts using Wondershare MobileGo. I've used this program to backup and restore messages, contacts, photos, etc. on my phone many times before and on previous phones and it has worked fine. But this time when I try to restore my messages they don't show up on my phone. To be specific, when I first do the restore the threads will show up under the contact name but there will be no messages when I open the thread. Soon after they just all disappear (only the restored messages, not any new ones). It seems like they're getting deleted as they're empty threads but that's just a guess. I thought it might have been a problem when doing the backup so I opened up the file (.sms file) in notepad and all the messages are there. I think it has something to do with Kit Kat but I've never encountered this problem before.
So does anyone know how I could restore my messages from the .sms file I was given from the backup or why the messages don't show up on my phone? Thanks!
Hi,
Is there an app that backups & restores these things (and maybe more):
1. All apps data
2. All photos (camera, whatsapp, mms)
3. SMS messages, preferably to GMail
4. WhatsApp messages ("exploded" - meaning, not just upload the msgstore.db file)
I'm looking for something automatic, that will backup things as they arrive (e.g. after I take a photo), or hourly/nightly, and that knows to upload the new data to a cloud service.
I know a mix of Titanium & Google + & SMS Backup+ can do these things (SMS Backup+ can't restore whatsapp messages and only backsup nightly, not as whatsapp messages arrives, and can't backup crypt7 files (tri-crypt can decrypt, but for me SMS backup didn't trigger afterwards)). Titanium also failed to upload backups for me (for reasons unclear. the message it gives in the notification is cut off)
Nandroid backup will contain everything, but can't be done nightly and the file is huge, so can't be uploaded. I think it also means that if I change phones, it can't be used for restore.
Basically, I don't want to mess with it. Have it work in the background, send everything to a cloud storage and allow me to restore, even if I switched to a new phone.
Apologies if this has been answered before. I backup my messages to google drive. Whatsapp also backs up messgaes on my phone. I want to free up phone space. If I delete the whatsapp backup stored on my phone, will all the messages stored on google drive also be deleted / will they be difficulty to restore back to phone in the future once whatsapp syncs with google drive?
Thanks
I would like to share a tip for WhatsApp users. Most users said that they have a backup problem and they were unable to recover data and conversation.
Through a cloud storage service, user can easily take backup our conversation & media which is offered by WhatsApp. When you change your mobile device, you can easily restore the old conversation. If you set up this function properly, then you never faced any backup issues in your WhatsApp.
Here are the simple steps to execute this function and get your backup anytime:
Step 1: Go to the Setting
Step 2: Under Setting, Click on the Chats
Step 3: Go to the Chat Backup and simply select Auto Backup
After backing up all the conversation & media on WhatsApp, Just restore it after installing again. This is best when some get the new phone.
Hello,
I need to restore an old WhatsApp backup from 2014 (crypt7). I still have the same phone number, so there should be no problem.
Usually I do the following:
1) Copy the backup to "/sdcard/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/"
2) Install WhatsApp
3) Start WhatsApp and verify the phone number
4) A notification asks me if I want to restore the local backup
5) Done
This worked for recent backups and also for backups back to mid 2016.
For the backup from 2014, WhatsApp didn't find the local backup, instead I was asked to check for Goode Drive backups.
As mentioned here in this case I turned off WiFi & mobile data, let WhatsApp check for online backups till the network error appeared and skipped.
But in the end, there was no local backup found.
The problem is also, from all this trying, my number got now blocked for 12 h because WhatsApp thinks I'm a spammer, sadly.
What am I doing wrong?
1) Should I remove my Google Account from my smartphone (Android 12) after installing WhatsApp and before staring the verification process?
2) Would it maybe help to install and old WhatsApp version like 2.21.8.17 as mentioned here?
3) Is there a way to push a local WhatsApp backup to Google Drive, so I could restore it from there?
4) Can I do anything against the spam protection mechanism, so WhatsApp knows that all these verifications are for a good reason and not for spamming?
Thanks in advance.
