Well, my boot image is jacked.. trying to use the images in the twrp threads. I can't boot into the Lineage at this point, and I think I can get it working if I just get the original boot.img. I am looking into extracting it from an image somehow, but if someone has it handy it'd be much appreciated!

Not sure about extracting it, but if you try to manipulate any files and re-flash, I believe it will break the rom signature and the phone will refuse to flash it. I'm sure some other folks here can give a more comprehensive technical answer, but that's what I remember from reading through the threads here.

There isn't one yet. This is directly from Koush: "The boot image is not being backed up or restored currently. As far as I can tell, there is no way to flash the boot image, other than through Odin. So without a way for me to flash it, there is no way for me to restore it. So there's no point backing it up, heh."
thanks for the info, thats sucks i wanted to port this lovely phone

Samsung setups for Android are quite different from HTC's where you have your boot.img containing the ramdisk and kernel here we have the recovery/kernel in one and a bootloader that no one has been able to access yet. HTC's are much more logical in their setup.
Simple answer is to flash it with odin? until a other way is found?
Sounds simple to me. Ill talk to him.
This was Koush's final response to me regarding this:
"basically you need to build a full kernel and pack an initramfs by using the proprietary binaries that come with the phone. It is possible to reverse engineer and do this. You can port another rom still. You'll just need to work around stuff that you can't do unless you are using a stock boot image."

Hey Guys. I'm not a developer. In no way. But I want to get one. So I've extracted the Rom.zip of the RUU. What need to be done to make this flashable ? Thanks a lot. I won't share it with others because there's already a stock Rom for our phone. But this should be a little step in a long way to get a dev.

You have to run the RUU from the exe to restore it. However if you wanted it for a backup you could install it through the EXE then do a nandroid of it afterwards. If you want to make a flashable zip you could use Rom Kitchen. You can use the rom.zip in that. Good luck I've been messing around with it trying to make a basic rom, cant get it to boot, lol. Steep learning curve.

Maybe we could learn together and try and build a decent rom. You know help each other out, I have experience running game servers and editing /creating scripts for those. I also have a little xml and java. Not much though. I have a good understanding of the basics, but I just got my first droid a few months ago, Id like to make roms if I can. Peace.

Is anyone already working on porting TWRP to our u11 life? If not, I might try building for us all. Let me know so I don't waste my time.
Thanks!

I'll start tomorrow maybe after I get off work if I'm not too tired. No promises
I just want this to be like my old m8. An active community though I realize we aren't dealing with a flagship here, I'm still going to try to contribute somehow.

Nice to see some development interest for this phone!
Maybe it's too early to know but recovery for T Mobile variant will be the same as Android One?
Sent from my Huawei P9 powered by BlueWei [emoji41]
If I had the device I'd take a gander at making a recovery. I'd even make a CWM just for the fun of it if possible. Keep in mind I've never ported a recovery but I don't imagine the process is that difficult.

My guess is that the Android One variant will have A/B partitions for seamless updates, so there's going to be a different recovery and install method. All devices endorsed by Google since the launch of the Pixel use the new partition table and this results in difficulty in 3rd party development. Pixel doesn't have an official LOS ROM yet and just got official Magisk last month. It's going to be a rough start, but the community will grow.

We are able to unlock the bootloader, Which means we can go Super CID. With Super CID we can flash (in DL mode) a magisk patched boot.img , and achieving root access. So next will be porting a recovery........ Get to work.

You don't need SuperCID to flash a boot.img. That's simply incorrect.
Also, there was a link posted in the U11 TWRP thread to a test TWRP build for the U11 Life. Not sure if anyone tried it, but there were also device files uploaded, so it's probably a good place to start.

Technically yes and no , there arent any Tmobile boot img's floating around, so it has to be another GSM boot img. To ensure there are no hiccups being SuperCID wouldn't hurt.

I repeat: SuperCID has nothing to do with flashing a boot.img. You can literally flash any boot.img that fits on your device (with a proper header & dtb) if the bootloader is unlocked. CID isn't involved. In fact, SuperCID leads to issues with Carrier customization on newer devices, and RUUs will only flash on devices with the correct CID, not SuperCID. I think that happened around the time of the M9 Marshmallow or Nougat update.
In fact, you don't even have to flash the boot.img. You can simply fastboot boot it, and you should still be able to achieve root. And then you can back up the stock boot.img so there IS a T-Mobile boot.img "floating around." If someone just downloads one of the RUUs from Easy Firmware, uses the Decrypt Tool to extract it, and then Magisk to patch it, it should be possible to dump all of the stock T-Mobile device partitions.
Haven't seen you around since the Evo LTE. But I may be getting the U11 Life pretty soon, so I should be able to contribute in some way or form to the development of the device.
Anyone try that test TWRP build in the u11 thread yet? I'm thinking about it..

u know the risks I looked through the source it has sd660 not 630. So I'm not sure what would happen but we won't know till someone finds out. Also I'm not sure if all the partition info would be the same.

You don't even have to flash it. Just fastboot boot it from the bootloader and see if it works. That makes literally zero changes to your device. Nothing to risk at all.
Also, if you're not willing to soft brick your device for the purpose of testing, then there's no way you'll ever have a working TWRP.

It's a real website, and the files are all real. If you grab the combined signed RUU for the 617 region, you should be able to patch the extracted boot.img with Magisk for root.

I never use GokulNC tool, but as far as I know, in my old Asus ZF MPM1 (I have used various rooted Custom ROMs on that phone, I don't remember which,.. however, in all of them) it should have been easy to do, to create or change boot/splash image (following guides I get from googling about the matter).
I don't know about this RN10 and MiUI 12.5. It's my first time using Xiaomi/MiUI. Is it so diifficult?

Sorry I have no time now, and I have no intention to, for doing that now. Maybe later after I unlock my boot loader and everything. But for now, maybe I can help you with this, I found this by quick googling;
before you try anything 'sophisticated', maybe you'd like to try this first, no?
Good luck.
Sure, thanks. That is for boot animation though, not boot logo.
