no html 'real web browsing' on optimus?

the previous android phones i'd been using on t-mobile all provided real, desktop/laptop-like web browsing experiences on the phone. not the constrained and formatted for mobile web http://m.espn.com type browsing. so i was a little disappointed when i activated my optimus v on virgin for the first time today and started browsing to notice that the mobile web always loads websites in the constrained format.
is this a limitation of the handset? is there a setting in the mobile browser that you can perhaps change to view it in real html? or is it a limitation of the network even (virgin/sprint)?
Every serious webpage has somewhere at the end of page an optiom to change to desktop version. For example when you go on Google it gives you desktop/html onl/mobile options.
By defult the site is responsible to decide which version to bring you. It does that by reading you device type, which saiz android.
For example facebook forwards you to touch.facebook.com on smarthphone and m.facebook.com for featurephones.
Any yes browser has a setting to "fool" site what you are using. You can chance user agent in setting all browsers can do this, the options are android/iphone/desktop.....
But i leave this to android, if you chance to desktop you will see desktop facebook, which is much worse than touch version. It is easier to just find at the bottom the link to change to desktop version for sites that think android should be viewing mobile optimized, sily them.
Change your browser's user agent to Desktop or something like that. Skyfire, Dolphin HD, etc lets you do that easily.
For the default browser, check this link.

Make websites think I'm browsing from PC?

There's a certain website I frequent on my PC that allows me to stream episodes of breaking bad, etc. It's a pretty simple straightforward search engine that links you to a streaming flash video. When I try from my phone, it brings me to a version of the site which only allows me to search and then download the file instead of streaming it.
Is there any workaround / fix / app that will trick the site into thinking I'm on a PC?
Thank you
Dolphin (I use mini) will let u change the User Agent to Desktop.

Basically all of the third party browsers allow you to change user-agents. I really like the default browser, if only it gives option to do permanent desktop mode or allow switching like third party browsers do.
There is a way to change the stock browser to do desktop mode, but it is only per session. if you close the browser and reopen it goes back to mobile view.
I use dolphin hd set to desktop user agent, allows for streaming on hulu and full turntable.fm
+1 dolphin browser

i use maxthon. you can change to desktop or other browser types in the option. if you use it on your pc or laptop too you can sync all uour bookmarks and stuff with it after you sign in. its faster than google chrome on a computer and the fastest ive found for my atrix. hopes this helps.
I use both Dolphin HD and Opera, but Dolphin doesn't work properly on this site. If you're in a thread with multiple pages the button for the last page is covered so it's difficult to get to, and if you try to search the thread the search pops up and disappears immediately. The back button on Dolphin doesn't work well if you click a link in Yahoo - you have to hit back multiple times before it works. Most sites do work ok though.
The stock CM7 browser will let you change user agents to Linux desktop, Mac desktop, Froyo, Eclair, iPhone, iPad and IE6

i like opera mobile it allows downloads from anywere /take that at&t
my stock brouser would NEVER EVER allow downloads from multiupload but or other places that the devs and mods use to share there great stuff!

BBC website

Has anyone tried the BBC F1 website with the tablet? I had a quick play in PC World today, and the buttons on the left of the screen which are clickable on my laptop didn't seem to be responding to my touch on the tablet. Is this a fault with me, or the tablet?
One of things I want to be able to do is watch the F1 video's on the BBC site, so this would be a bit of a blow if it doesn't work!
Thanks
Dave
I can confirm the site works and the navigation on the left works, just watched the 90second guide to the Korean Grand Prix to check and all good.
Thanks, that's good to know
Did you notice if it was the full site that it accessed, or a mobile version of it?
just tried to post reply and site hung on me!
bbc site seems full site. Can play all flash and iplayer site is fab too.
The default browser does open some sites in mobile mode, you just have to find the desktop version link and it will then open it, or use a third party browser as you can not change the settings permanently to desktop mode, only as per each session (search this forum to see) on the default browser.
thanks
