How in the world do I get the phone icon to show up on a Verizon Tab S6?
I see the "phone" in the apps but can't figure out how to get the icon on the home screen?
I also can't get Samsung Messages or Textra to show up on this tablet.
Guess Verizon wants everyone to use their Messages+ app but I want to use Textra and can't.
Any ideas how I can get Textra or the stock Samsung Messages apps to show up on this tablet?

First of all, I am running stock Android version 2.3.5 on the GT-I9100 (always have), with WalMart Family Mobile T-Mobile.
Whenever I try to send a multimedia message (MMS), it says "sending..." and never sends it. Whenever I receive a multimedia message (MMS), it says "downloading..." and does not complete (it just says "downloading"). Can anyone here tell me why I cannot send or receive MMS messages?
The other thing; I am getting a little bored with the wallpapers and the phone theme on my device. I have seen many pictures of people's SG2 with awesome themes and icons etc. How can I get themes like these without having to FLASH/CustomBOOT my phone?
Thanks,
- Steria
If anyone knows, please help.
For the MMS issue, have you tried having cellular data turned on when sending the message?
You can install different launchers and themes. I like ADW Launcher and TSF Shell, but TSF best.
It changes the layout of you app drawer, homescreen and pages. It adds alot of effects and features.
Hi, in regards to the notifications from one of your 5 people edge contacts, aren't we supposed to get a color light side bar notification when we get a text or is that only for missed calls? last night i thought i was getting the blue side bar thing every time i got a text from my first people edge contact but today i don't seem to be getting the light notifications for my other texts. The description in the settings doesn't specify whether it's only for missed calls or not it just says all "notifications" so I assume we should get it for texts too? I'm wondering if maybe i accidentally disabled that feature somehow. it still lights up for missed calls though.
There is an option under 'edge screen' where you can choose 'select notifications' and choose to turn it on and off for missed calls, messages and emails
Pretty sure the 5 people contacts thing only works as long as you use the included, Samsung texting service. If you've switched your primary texting app to something else, like for example Google Voice or Hangouts, the lighting should no longer work for texting purposes. Calls, I believe, are unaffected by this change, and the colours appear just fine.
The phone needs to be screen down for the light notifications to work.
Yes you have to use Samsung messages to get the edge lights to work. I tried it but only lasted 2 days and had to go back to hangouts.

Same experience.
Called Samsung today and unless you use their archaic messaging app then the edge lighting notifications will not function for SMS, MMS etc. It will still work for missed calls I believe.
Essentially they negated any reason for me to keep this device, it's going back.
I'm sure that some smart xda developer will figure out a way to link this to hangouts (why in gods name would Samsung choose to ignore core Google Android apps is beyond me), instead of Samsung trying to force people to use their proprietary garbage.
I should have trusted my gut on this, but really liked the idea of the edge functionality.
Fool me once, shame on you.....
Am I the one who want so bad the integration of whatsapp into people edge world? :crying: is there any official news/hint from samsung about this?
Huh? I'm not using Samsung msgs yet I received a message from my wife and people edge side bar was showing the msg in the specific color I picked for her
Sent from my SM-G925F
I just test mine and with hangouts it doesn't show the color of the contacts that we have on people's edge
Hello everyone! I'm new here
I had a question before purchasing the Gear S... I have a Galaxy S5 and I use Textra for my SMS app and I love it. I was wondering if the Texting feature on the Gear S can go though Textra or will it make me use the Default SMS app that same with my S5?
If it does require me to use the default app. Can I install Fleksy Messenger like I did on my old Gear 2 to replace the default SMS app on the Gear S?
Thanks
Did you figure out these questions? I'm thinking about buying it but would prefer to use Google Messenger instead of the factory SMS app on the phone I'm also thinking about buying (Note 5 AT&T).
Kinda.....
I ended up buying it and when I go to the messaging app on the watch it says I have to change back to the default SMS app on my phone. HOWEVER when I look up a contact and the hit the messaging icon for whatever contact I wanna text it works just fine with a 3rd party SMS app. Let me know how you like the Gear S!!
When you say looking up a contact to text, you're doing that on the watch & not the phone? Still debating on getting it. Love the gorgeous & huge curved screen but not fond of Tizen OS whatsoever besides being able to make/receive calls.
Yup
Yeah on the watch. This version of TIZEN is way better compared to the one on the Gear 2. I love the screen and the standalone capabilities. The apps are ok but could be improved..
I've never used previous versions of Tizen. Just the current version on the Gear S at retailers. Don't really care/need other apps. Just want notifications (in addition to the gorgeous & huge curved screen) for calls, texts, emails, voicemails & calling feature. Opera browser is a nice bonus.
Just go into your gear settings app (on your phone). Go to notifications and select whatever third party app you want (includes sms). I use Textra for my SMS. I get all messages on my Gear S (except for MMS...just alerts me I have an MMS, doesn't physically show it like using the stock app). You can respond using the built in Samsung keyboard.

I got a new Galaxy S6 Edge a couple of days ago. Been installing various apps and decided to try one called Textra. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with this phone. I cant send regular text or MMS messages with it. Only messaging app that comes bundled with the phone will allow me to send mesages of any kind. Has anyone else experienced this and if so were you able to fix it?
Currently i use a Samsung Galaxy S7. I would like to use also RCS but I can only enable this, if I use Samsung Messages as the Standard texting app. If i switch standard texting app to Android Messages, RCS is disabled. How can I enable it with Android Messages also?

Same issue here... any luck figuring it out?
After receiving the Oreo update, i had to hardreset my phone. Since this, i could use Android Messages also with RCS. I don't know if it works also with Android 7, but i think so.
