Install Instructions
Grab our recovery from the peripherals section and install it.
Through TWRP Recovery:
Install Zip > Install Image > Choose ‘recovery.img‘ > Select partition ‘Recovery’ > Swipe to confirm flash
Through Fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Install the ROM and then wipe your internal data partition.
Through TWRP Recovery:
Wipe > Format data
Through Fastboot:
Code:
fastboot -w
Reboot into system and wait until the process finishes, it could take a little bit. After the installation is done, I suggest waiting before using the phone because it usually goes into thermal throttling after installing a ROM.

The instructions in the first post is a generic copy & paste method not aimed at this specific device. You should follow the instructions in Post #2 and use the TWRP (and BLOD patch if needed) in Post #3.

pixelboot, I know i'm four months late but I just ripped PE a new one on telegram.....unreal. They just released a build for the 5X on march 27th. The nerve of those dudes. I know you have moved on and I applaud you for that. Thanks for continuing the work. This latest build is fantastic. I finally managed to install a new battery into "The last nexus." Your hard work has enabled me to bring life back to Angler. I can't thank you enough.
I was swiping to unlock the device and suddenly it booted into Google logo..then I have to again restart the device by going into twrp..

same problem...
well after i posted last night I tried to reboot back into exUI....got stuck at white screen with G logo. I was so mad that I ended up WIPING EVERYTHING....which was probably the worst thing I could have done. I tried re-installing the last stock android image. I did so successfully however, again when I booted up it got "stuck" again but this time with the black screen and Android logo in all CAP WHITE letters. I'm going to see if I can install a different rom but something tells me it's going to get "stuck" again.

Believe me over these past couple of years (years 3 and 4 with angler) I have thought to myself do I finally have the dreaded BLOD.....but as it turns out I don't.
I just installed a new battery...(I've been dragging my rear getting around to do this....needed a new battery 2 years ago).
I think I screwed up with the ExUI build when I didn't "format data" right after flashing it. And the instructions specifically say to do that. What I don't understand is if that indeed what was wrong why did it bother to boot into exUI in the first place, only to get stuck at boot screen on first reboot.
I was also thinking maybe it was an app I downloaded upon install but I don't know.
---------- Post added at 11:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:49 PM ----------
I know this is a major faux pas but I installed pixe1dust rom and have restarted several times and I have no problems on the latest build of that. This is how I know I don't have BLOD.
thx to pixelboot for that as well.
I will say that extendedUI is a lot smoother but for the time being I'm going to keep using pixe1dust until I start going crazy again. Maybe down the line I will try extendedUI again.

So far, AMAZING rom, and this will probably be my daily driver henceforth. Only problem I'm having is that something is tripping up Snapchat and I'm not able to login... I even went into TWRP and flashed Magisk 15.1 to see if I could use the Magisk Hide option, but I'm unable to log in even after making sure Magisk was hidden from Snapchat. Something else must be tripping it up.

Awesome, much appreciated
I still cant seem to get this to boot.
I did a full wipe (cache, dalvik/art, system, data), factory reset, format data.
Flash ROM and 8.1 GApps Aroma from TWRP Unofficial link. Reboot. Right back to recovery.
Attempted multiple times. but could be doing something wrong with the order of the process. Will continue to try.
Make sure you backup internal and have a full nandroid of everything including modem because once you try to restore back to OOS it will say encryption unsuccessful and you have to format data and flash a full OOS zip before you can boot because a factory reset won't work (even though that's what it says you must do). And restoring just boot system and data will leave you without data connection.
Thanks for the hard work dev!
Awesome Rom
This rom is a beast, so much customization. So far the only issue i have come across was the camera, the pictures were coming out at a 90 degreee angle. i had to install google camera and that solved it.
Im not sure about the battery usage as i have only just flashed it but lets see.
Massive thank you to the Devs, good work.

4) Join our Discord server! There, you can connect with other Carbon users and our developers, and you can get quicker responses to your bug reports. The invite link is right below.
Notice:
In order to install GApps, you must flash the ROM then reboot into TWRP before flashing our custom GApps package (as this switches slots). Custom GApps package can be found at https://mirror.myself5.de/taimen/GApps. We're working with the team behind MindTheGapps to fix the upstream for taimen.
Also, we know the default wallpaper on is black. We know it's caused by the RRO overlays on vendor and unfortunately we can't change the default (yet?), you can change it manually without complications though.
We know it’s complicated, but it sure is worth it!
Install Instructions:
Flash the newest factory images on both slots
Move your ROM + [GApps] + TWRP.zip to your internal storage
Boot the TWRP.img > Check what Slot you're on (Reboot Menu) ->Wipe Data & Cache -> Flash the ROM as well as the TWRP.zip
Either Reboot to system or, in case you want GApps, reboot to recovery via TWRP (Reboot -> Recovery)
Check and confirm that you are on the opposite slot from Step 3. If not, switch to it and reboot the recovery again (Reboot Menu) -> Flash GApps (and whatever else you want to flash -> Reboot to System -> Enjoy CarbonROM

Make sure you use the gapps listed in the op.
magisk 16.4,razorlove gapps 0328,dolby,subt. all working fine!
If you get boot loop using razorlove gapps just force reboot and your good to go!
I also wanted point out something this rom does that no other rom does. When using dolby there is no popping at all and when you clear recents there is no clicking at all.
You can double tap anywhere on screen, not even DU rom does that!Great start guys, awesome rom!Very glad your back!

Some apps are force closing when doing some things. Gallery closes when editing an image. Snapchat closes when trying to open a story or a photo someone sent you. I reported in the jira, but if anyone has a fix, i'm all ears. (I can provide a logcat)

I see many great roms being unofficial. What is it needed to be official? And why some devs don't bother making it official?
Dev, thanks a lot! Great job! More better than LOS 17.:good:

@followmsi took down his Omni6 TWRP and advised us to use the new official 3.3.1-0 from the TWRP website - yours seems older, so which is better?
Does crDroid Q have all the great options already that Pie had? And do we have to flash any firmware/vendor or can we simply clean flash from any existing Pie rom?
Thanks for your work and this rom :good:
No Vulkan available, can you please fix it like in other Ten Roms ?
Great Rom with look & feel like crDroid Pie. :good:
I did a clean install.
please after install rom and go into system
is there any need to make system-as-root (SAR)
and which version of gapps work without any bugs
any bugs in this rom please, cause i use rr 5.8.5 without any bugs at all
any advises pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

For a ROM to be called OFFICIAL, the developer needs to build the ROM from source and provide regular weekly updatesand has to stick to the guidelines the developer team have setup.
Like for example LineageOS, the dev can't include a hack or work-around for some bugs in the ROM with a certain device.
For example with the Redmi Note 3, while there was a mod present to fix the flashlight issue, the dev himself couldn't include it in the ROM as it didn't comply with the LineageOS guidelines.
Every developer community, for e.g., LineageOS, RR, DU, OmniRom, AICP, MOKEE,......., have there own guidelines.

I had no problem installing Open_gapps-arm64-10.0-nano-20191006-BETA.zip an was able to setup the tablet without any errors.
Didn't do the SAR thing as I don't need root, as I use the tablet for browsing and watching streams

I flashed it directly with a full wipe, my previous rom was Bootleggers ROM 4.3 Pie and didn't incounter any problems.
It has allot of options just like the pie version, don't know if they are all there but there is enough to choose from.

I don't need root but I tried it for you.
I just tried to install magisk in the normal way and it didn't give any errors.
After it I tested to see if it past safety net and it did.
After that I installed adaway and that requested root like normally and I gave it access.
But when it tried to install the host files it failed.
When I try to read the buildprob with a root file explorer, that works like normally after granting rood.
So maybe adaway needs the sar method, or it doesn't work with android 10 yet.

Go into Adaway's settings and select systemless, then it works fine.
I flashed crDroid earlier and for a 1st build it looks pretty good. It has some of crDroid's options, but not all of them. For example no option for smartbar under navigation and no way to modify recents to have the rambar or at least the clear all button. I installed a couple of launchers (Lawnchair, Hyperion + OPLauncher2) to use with Quickswitch in an attempt to get different recents, but Quickswitch complained with all 3 of them that this version wasn't supported
Settings crash when trying to change the hardware button layout - I wanted to put Screenshot on long-press since there's no smartbar, but Settings wasn't having any of it
Oh and an oddity: When I plug the device in to charge the screen lights up like it should ... but if I simply walk away it will go dark after the 30 seconds timeout and then light up again, rinse + repeat. I had to actually turn off the screen with the power button to get it to stay off while charging ... I've never seen THAT before, so no idea what's causing it.
@Valera1978 - your link behind "For now i'm using gapps from" in the OP doesn't work, maybe you can fix it?
Wake-on-Home works, Volume wake didn't and then it did but that's the same behaviour we had on some Pie roms already.
That's it for now ... not sure if I'll stay on this one or go back to my Pie rom, but it's definitely usable already - thank you @Valera1978 :good:

Thanks that did the trick with adaway, but the setting doesn't stick.
Not a big problem just have to set it again when I want to update.
I can confirm the settings crashing when you try to change the buttons.
I just used my charger but I didn't notice the light going on and off.

Thanks for pointing that out about Adaway, I hadn't noticed - but yes, it does it here too and for some odd reason adblocking was disabled again after a reboot.
I tried it a few times now - if I turn on the screen and then let the device sit there, the screen will go off after the selected timeout (30 seconds here), but then the screen will come back on after a second or 2. Then it goes off again after 30 seconds and comes right back on. This will keep going indefinitely unless I turn the screen off manually with the power button. Plus I just noticed that it isn't only when charging but all the time ... very odd, like something is waking the screen again right after it goes off. I definitely didn't have that on my previous Pie rom and my phone with crDroid Pie also doesn't do it. I'm stumped
Edit: I think I found the culprit that keep waking up my screen :victory:
On the tablet I use a free SIM card with free monthly data that's sponsored by advertisements. It has it's own lockscreen which doesn't even show up here on Q but did on Pie. If I "freeze" that app with TiBu my screen turns off as it should - but without that app installed I won't get my free data each month.
No idea if this is a Q issue or a crDroid one, but something must be blocking the app lockscreen and causing this odd behaviour. I'll have to see if I still get my free data allowance when the app is installed but not using it's lockscreen ... otherwise I'm going back to Pie. :fingers-crossed:
@Valera1978
After 1 Day of heavily testing Games, Videos, Youtube, Internet i can say, this is the Best 10 Rom for (my) 580's.
Big Thx again for your great Work. :good:

I would try:
- install the official TWRP page(Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80692007&postcount=672)
- save all my data
- wipe all partitons
- reboot into TWRP
- format (not WIPE!!) /data partition
- reboot into TWRP
- install only rom and boot
If rom boots normal, thenn install gapps...
installing the rom only cleanly starts works but when I want to add the gapps remains stuck on the logo cr droid
Why ?
ps: I tested with gapps indicated on this forum

Download the MatLog app from the Play Store.
After downloading the MatLog app, go to the app settings, and change the log level to Debug.
Clear all previous logs and take the exact steps to produce the error you are receiving. As soon as you receive the error (probably a force close), go straight into MatLog and stop the log recording.
Copy and paste the entire log either to Hastebin or Pastebin
Save the log, and copy and paste the link into the thread with a brief description of the error.

Hey Guys! The @ZerynJR is the main dev of this project. I'm here just for support.
There's some usefull things you may need to know before installing the ROM.
- Make sure you're running the lastest firmware (12.0.3 or above)
- TWRP (mauronofrio) or LOS Recovery should work fine for installing it.
- GApps are not includded.
- I straghtly suggest you to use the grey color for Fingerprint
We hope you enjoy it
Best regards.

ATTENTION
This is an Alpha build, then probably you'll face issues there.
Know issues
Auto brightness not working.
FOD works but isn't good (try changing its color).
Dt2w not working.
holy moly, thanks for the release! RR is usually my go to ROM
Wow great
Happy to see Roms are coming .. thanks for the ROM
WOW that was fast!, didn't expecte to be release so fast! Awesome well done Team, thanks for your hard work. I am glad the crowd funding turned out well
Just 1 question: Will there be a version based on Android R 11 in the near future ?
Waaaahhhhhh noice
---------- Post added at 09:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 PM ----------
OK, I love your work, but this ROM Auto brightness is just not working.
You can Slide the Brightness slider all you want but nothing happens. It's stuck on high, I was able to get it to refresh to a lower setting by moving the slider to the lowest setting and going dark mode but after a few second it went back to high.
fingerprint is also absolute hit or miss. otherwise wow.
Please fix these 2 issues.
I used LOS Recovery and Formatted data and came from a fresh booted 12.0.8 and 12.0.3.
Thanks for the hard work!
Can we really format System? It's not advised by anybody.

- since its android pixel based does the Google recorder and transcription work?
Thanks

I think most of people like MIUI, so survival of this model is not a problem.
Don't be confused by the fact that you (and me, too) don't like MIUI.

Unfortunately it didn't arrive yet.
I bought it from China (AliExpress), I'm waiting it to arrive in the middle of November.
But working with a Team I can contribute even without the device. (Slowly but works)
For now, me, Oliver, Raysteff and Carlos Ayrton are working together for fixing all remaining bugs on Android Q. But since we already have a stable MIUI with Android 11 vendor we can start working on Android 11.
