I'm not receiving text notifications on AA from the stock messaging app. I troubleshooted with a 3rd party SMS app that I've used for 10 years (chomp) and do receive notifications from texts on my stock head unit in 2017 Cruze. Anyone else? Got the generic response from Google (check out this forum blah blah blah). This to me seems a major flaw with being hands free, along with assistant just not working with AA.

Hello,
Question about the default messaging app for the streak. (I say default because this has happened to me on the Dell stock rom, simplestreak, and streakdroid 1.9)
The layout of my SMS is all weird, messages look like this
Friend: Reply back 1
Friend: Reply back 2
Me: Test message
Me: Test message 2
I'm used to messages threading properly like:
Me: Test message
Friend: Reply back 1
Me: Test message 2
Friend: Reply back 2
Any suggestions? (I don't really want to use a 3rd party SMS app, and most look the the iPhone.. so no)
Thanks
That happens to me from time to time. I would recommended 3rd party apps but you've made it clear you don't want to use them so good luck.

Looks like I suffer from that timestamp bug on incoming SMS. From what I can tell, Rogers devices with 3rd party ROM's have that issue.
Basically all incoming texts get timestamped 5 hours earlier, so they always appear above my texts.
Found a free app in the marketplace that addresses it. (SMS timefix)
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II that has been rooted and uses CleanROM 5.0. Today I noticed that my Google Voice messages are not only being received by the GV App, but also by the stock messenger App. Also, the stock messenger App will reply through whichever source the SMS came in (either Google Voice or Verizon). This surprised me, as I don’t remember ever getting GV messages that way before. Google Voice messages would only go to the GV App. I have also determined that I don’t even need to be logged on to the GV App for this to work. I tried Googling this to see if it was normal. All I could find was recent news of this being achieved by a Cyanogen Mod and there also being an App that will do this. I have neither a Cyanogen mod nor that App. What am I missing here? Why is the doing this for me? In any case, I’d like to use just the Stock App for everything I’d like to know how to make all outgoing messages default to using just Google Voice. Any ideas around why this started happening and how I can control how new messages will be sent?
Answered my own question (mostly)
OK, I found out why this started happening. Somehow I had changed the setting in Google Voice, so that text messages were getting sent my cell phone. So duh.... when I received a text to my Google account, it also was going to my Verizon account, and thus my stock messaging app. I found this out when I saw all the text charges Verizon was billing me for. So now I am using that App, called Stock Messaging Application with Google Voice, It looks somewhat like the stock application- but not quite (I like the stock better). It does catch messages coming in from both Google and and Verizon. I have it set to reply to all through Google- which it does. This is mostly what I wanted to do- the problem is, it's a little buggy. Sometimes a message won't go in or out. And as I said, I still like the stock app better.
So I still have a remaining question. Does anyone know if, or when, the breakthrough of this from July (for Cyanogen Mod) is showing up for other ROMS?

Just posting to let you know I am following your thread and I'm interested in the results as well. Let's hope somebody comes along with some more information. Do you have a link to that app?

Glad to see someone else cares- I was actually kind of surprised by the lack of feedback/interest in this. I would have guessed this would be of more interest to people....oh well.
The app I was referring to can be found on the Google Play Store- it is called "Messaging + Google Voice", the developer is Troxie.net
This board won't let me post the link.
The problem with this app is that it seems a little buggy. Sometimes messages don't send or receive- but in general it does what it says. I have also found the Text for Free service by Pinger works pretty well with the stock messaging. You can set it so that all of your cell phone service based texts will also go into the Text for Free app. Then when you reply, the outgoing message will go through text for free. However, this is a separate number- not a Google Voice number.

I actually use the Sprint integration with Google Voice, so I am using only one phone number, my Sprint mobile number. I am really just trying to set it up so that if I am at my PC and I send an SMS with the web interface, that message will also be displayed on my phone. Right now, I can see that message in my google voice app, but not any third party SMS app (like Textra, which I use). I want to be able to use Textra to send all my SMS and MMS, and have it sync any messages I send using the google voice web interface as well.
Problem:
Occasional text messages are not "received". Just as a rough number, I'd say over 90% of SMS sent to me, I get. But I have been able to narrow down the problem with the missing ones.
I only noticed the issue because while at home or when I have headphones in, I have tasker set up to announce the name of the sender of a new SMS to me. Once in a while, it would say the name, but I wouldn't get a new text notification sound nor would I get a new message in any messaging app.
Phone info:
Nexus5
Android 4.4.4 rooted
Stock rom, kernel, etc.
Carrier is T-Mobile
Messaging apps used (not at the same time) are Hangouts, Smitten SMS, Google Messenger
Useful information:
1. This is NOT an iMessage issue. Missing messages have come from both android and apple phones. The last time this happened was today from a S5.
2. This is NOT a carrier issue. The message is received by the OS.
3. This is NOT an app issue. The message is not picked up by stock messaging app or any others.
4. This is NOT a formatting/encoding issue. I have people resend the message (copy/paste) and the resend always goes through and is shown in the messaging app.
5. This is NOT a group messaging issue. These are one on one conversations.
6. The missing message does NOT show up in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db.
7. If I set up Tasker to log all incoming SMS, it IS able to log the missing message AS IT IS RECEIVED BY THE OS.
My theory:
Tasker can catch these missing messages, but the mmssms.db won't see them. So that tells me that somewhere between the phone getting the message and the phone logging it to the mmssms.db to be read by messaging apps, there is a failure. I do not know Android well enough to precisely say where this failure is happening. Because Tasker isn't logging them as they hit the DB but prior to that.
If someone more knowledgeable with how the android os handles SMS wants to chime in here, that would be great.
Anyone else experiencing the same? Any additional ideas here?
I am experiencing the same issue and searching to find a solution.
Android 4.4.4
Motorola Moto G
Cricket is my carrier
Did you ever find a solution? Thanks!
When I receive texts on my new huwai 5 x honor I get a random chain of letters and numbers following like this
I love you too

Also
When I try to send a picture in messaging it won't send and I get a long block of gibberish filling a message to contact Google Fi. Google folks are stumped and only seem familiar with their Fi supported phones like Nexus. No help there.
I downloaded Google Messanger to use but it is doing same thing.
My husband ordered same phone and has no similar issues.
I have run spyware fixed with no luck. Google support people have no idea.
I have doñe 2 factory resets to no avail. Also, I deleted all message threads before running Kaspersky and still the problem remains.
One difference is Google Hangouts lets me send small pictures but I get same random characters on received messages on that just like on stock huwaei messaging and Google messenger.

I've been using Skype for ages, but recently it does its jobs poorly.
A lot of time I receive notifications late, it does not ring, and I completely stopped getting any new messages in one of my group chats, which led me to miscommunicate and fallback to Facebook Messenger. That's just to name the recent issues.
I am looking for a descent widely used replacement, that people would consider reliable. I can really type my emojis by hand. Any suggestions?
WhatsApp
Most of ppl I know use Viber. it's more pollished app, but development for win10mobile is stopped, there is no black mode for viber so it will drain more of battery, so use WhatsApp .
