Anyone Have the kdz for vs98713a ? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Old phone but some of the system files have become corrupted. Long story short I want to keep it as it is but use lgup to restore the system files. If anyone has the kdz VS98713A it would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note if finding that kdz fails would it be possible to use an older kdz (say VS98711A) then do an update through verizon to 13a? I'm not sure if it would just detect the older version and go straight to oreo which is what I would want to avoid along with avoiding a factory reset lol.
Wasnt sure if this should go in this forum or the rom's and kernals forum. If so it can be moved tho I'm not even sure anyone uses this phone any longer.
Thanks ;=)

no one has an answer before I attempt it? ;=P

Search this for the kdz VS98713A_06_0626_ARB00.kdz
I believe this is not the latest rom, but if you flash a older rom you should always be able to update it.
You could also try to do a factory reset to see if that fixes your issues.

thanks a million. Yes its an older rom, I just wanted to keep it in the original condition. Hopefully all the data stays the same (hence why I'm trying to avoid a factory reset)

Restoring to factory

If after rooting and installing CM7, would it be possible to revert back to factory settings and firmware?
Yes, easiest way would have been making a Nand back up BEFORE you installed the custom rom, and stored it somewhere safe, then you can flash back to old rom and just reset your factory settings.
Im guessing you didnt do that though
You will have to download your LG firmware for your country and reflash it.

yup it is
First of all, you need the firmware file updating software, which you can download from here :
mediafire.com/?jkk2dwewjmfz346
Now, you need the LG firmware repository to download the version of the LG ROM that you need. This is a bit tricky and requires some attention. I know this may confuse some of you but be sure I'll help anybody who comments on this blog, but then its better to get it done at once rather than wasting your time and hence I request you to read carefully.
Now first I'm explaining how to read the country codes from the firmware country codes page.
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/ezlooks_model_list.jsp?model=LGP500
This is the list of country codes for the firmware: LG P500 firmware country codes
Here, all country codes are given. Now suppose, I want to download the firmware for India, I'll hit CTRL + F (shortcut for search on browsers) and write INDIA. It'll display the location of the word INDIA on the page. Now the code will read like :
CDMA LGP500 AINDBK IND/INDIA
Here, AINDBK is the code we need. Lookup the code for your country similarly as mentioned above and copy it somewhere.
Now, the prototype of the download link is this :
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/XXXXX/V10a_00/V10A_00.kdz
First, copy this link, paste it in the notepad. Now get your country code, and replace the XXXXX from the above link with your country code. For example, my link would look like this after replacement :
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/AINDBK/V10a_00/V10A_00.kdz
Now paste this link in the address bar and hit enter. It'll initiate the download for your firmware.
If you want a different firmware, like the V10B update or the V10C update, just replace the a and A after V10 in the above link (at both places) with the letter of the version you want. Please keep in mind that the case of the letter should be same accordingly. My download link for the V10B update would look like :
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/AINDBK/V10b_00/V10B_00.kdz
Now when you're all equipped with the requirements, we shall now proceed to the flashing part.
Go to the folder where you have downloaded the Firmware Updater : KDZ_firmware_updater and extract it.
Install msxml.msi from the extracted directory
Connect your phone (don't Turn On USB storage) and run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe.
In the window, select Type : 3GQCT
Also select PhoneMode : DIAG
In the place where you have to give path for KDZ file, select the ROM you have downloaded using the link you made for your country specific firmware.
Press Launch software update and wait for about 10 minutes. The screen will then say "Emergency mode". Just wait and let it reboot.
You're back to the LG Stock Firmware!
I hope this article helps you and if you've not been using a Custom ROM for the reason mentioned above, now is the time to do so!
Happy Flashing!

Actually I have not rooted nor flashed anything yet, which was the motivation for this thread. I like knowing for sure I can revert back to factory for unforeseeable circumstances.
Also, thank you for the concise post cyber_avijit. I had a feeling that was the way to do it but just wanted to confirm.
I have been doing some searches and it appears people are bricking their phones by using the KDZ flasher (it does not appear that they have done anything wrong either). This worries me as I hate taking chances and having no control over matters. Does anybody know why their devices are bricking and how I can prevent that from happening to myself?
I have warranty but its a pain to send the unit away for a month.
Cheers.
this site isn't working anymore.. did anyone managed to save the country codes?

Why would you use KDZ? Since you're on stock rom and you have a normally functioning phone, use Gingerbreak to root your phone! It's easier and I think it's almost impossible to brick your phone with that
After that you can flash your custom recovery, a new ROM, or whatever else you want to do

Little help

I'm trying to fix an S4 for my friends 14 yr old son. All I know is that he says he used towel root to root it. There's some stuff on screen. Stable root, stable boot initiating, build number etc; can't remember exactly and don't have the phone on me now. Anyway, it boots just fine but systemui is constantly crashing, making it impossible to do anything. I tried a factory reset with no luck. Still same problems. I downloaded stock firmware and tried to odin back to stock also with no luck. Getting a "fail(auth)" message. My question is, before I attempt to try odin again is there a way I can push a new systemui.apk to the phone to try and fix it? Or a way to remove the root files through adb? Any help is much appreciated. For the record, I've successfully unbricked many galaxy devices in my time. Don't know why this one is giving me such a hard time.
Odin failed? Probably a bad download. Also was it a no wipe or emergency repair file? Best bet may be to follow the links in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776189 for the appropriate build number and use the emergency repair if everything still isn't working.
I would recommend the no wipe Odin image from surge, Nc5, should take care of your issue. If that fails, you should try the Full wipe of NC5, bc that is rootable without downgrading or following some directions that you may not understand. Dont know your comfort level with the phone, but if you know adb, then you might be smarter than me.
Your Odin might have failed bc of a bad download. Try redownloading the file, use stock samsung data cable, try a different usb port on pc etc.

How to: Update LG G2 D802 (FlashKDZ/Root/Recovery/Hiddenmenu/troubleshooting)(n2n)

(FlashKDZ/Root/Recovery/Hiddenmenu/troubleshooting) (noob2noob guide)
Okay, this is my first thread on XDA, the reason I'm making it is there is a lots of problems with progressing to lollipop. All of this is already mentioned in the forum, but this way it is much easier since it is all at one place. If I'm doing something wrong please warn me with explanation how to resolve the issue. If I'm posting in wrong forum section please move my thread where it is supposed to be.
1. Before doing anything check if your phone is ready to get updated:
1.1 Do you have a stock Kitkat rom or at least a rom that is kitkat based, since there can be a problem with partitioning if custom lollipop rom is installed
1.2 Create a backup. Don't be lazy LG backups will not help you since they can't go from kitkat to lollipop, don't try to do it from recovery because you will lose custom recovery. Copy your files from phone including extracted contacts, and back it up online with google or some other backup providers.
1.3 Check if you have a latest touch firmware, because you might have a problems after installing lollipop and it will be hard for you to check for updates since your touch might become useless.
1.3.1 To check it go to hidden service menu by typing 3845#*802# and go under HW Device Test, then Touch Test then touch firmware version and write everything down. After that go to touch firmware upgrade and after 15 seconds compare the touch firmware version values with those you written down.
1.4 In hidden Menu you can also go to wlan test then ota setting to check if it is disabled on your phone. After that check again if there is OTA updates for your phone, and also check if there is PC suite Update.
1.5 Check your phones version if it is D802, D800 or something else, and check which rom you have installed. You can do this in settings about phone or if you are happy about hidden menu found, go there and into settings then version info. This might not be interesting or fun to do, but it will save you the trouble if something goes wrong, because you will know what to ask.
1.6 Last but not the least, before starting to flash fill up your battery, i've read some posts that say there are problems with wrong capacity shown, and a lots of battery drain problems, and only solution till now is to have a full battery on start.
2. You will need LG FlashTool and of course installed drivers for your G2 on your PC.
All of that you can get in the thread by @quangnhut123 .
2.1 Just a bit of precautions, don't forget to always copy a kdz file in to Flashtool folder and then start a tool. All should look the same as in that thread, except you should always use CSE method because with this method you will install kdz from scratch, removing everything from the phone.
2.2 You should find the kdz file which suits for your phone on site . You can check for kdz by typing in imei in check new firmware section or find the one for yourself by searching the site. v30a is lollipop open while v30d is for branded G2's.
(I've read that this site is not allowed by Xda moderators, so if I can't post it please give me info on where should we download kdz's from).
2.3 I think it's all pure logic now but lets say it one more time. You have downloaded kdz file, and put it inside LG Flashtool folder. You should now start Flashtool and get your phone into Download mode. To do this you need to hold volume up button on turned off device and connect usb cable while holding volume up. Now just cse flash.
2/3 This is troubleshooting step, if you have a problem ask and i hope this great community will help you like they did to me, and ofc I will do my best to help.
3. Now we go to rooting.
Here is the thread by @avicohh which worked for my D802.
Just follow his step by step tut and you will have a rooted phone
3.1 The only issue that might happen here is you are stuck with # and adb waiting for your phone. To resolve this just go into download mode manually.
4. Okay rooting done, now let's go to custom recovery install
It's easy as installing an app from google play by @bender_007
4.1 After installing it open the app and follow the on-screen instructions. If it fails for the first time, try it few more times, it will eventually work. (OFC. I didn't install it with only one try).
4.2 To get into custom recovery hold volume down and power button till first LG sign shows up, then release both buttons and quickly press them again. It will ask you do you want to do factory reset, press yes and yes again, and it will get you to custom recovery if you installed it.
4.2.1 If you factory reset your phone that means you didn't install recovery correctly and you will lose your data, but again that should be no problem since you have that backup from the start.
Now optional steps:
5. Install system app remover to remove bloatware from your phone. You can do it manually but this way you will have those apps backed up.
6. Next suggestion is to install a few mods if you need them. In my case I had to have a Plug and pop, since it is lost from Lollipop and I loved that feature. Here is a thread on how to install that mod by @p_a_r_s_a7
//That's all, if you have any questions feel free to ask, since there is no dumb questions, but also try to read carefully before//
Thanks to:
@quangnhut123
@avicohh
@p_a_r_s_a7
@bender_007
A lot of others whose names i can't remember. If anyone else needs to be mentioned PM me and i will add you in this section.
I will add pictures and stuff if needed
Thanks, good all-in-one thread, + easiest methods. Ill recommend it‚to others
This forum is such a mess that a thread like this is like a fresh breath of air. Every advice given on other threads references something that you should already know how it's done, or you should already have done to your phone in the past and have a certain version of it, or non-working tools that are only around for a few months until an update makes them unusable.
No wonder that most of the first-page topics, including pinned ones, have the word "brick" in the title. This should signal the forum moderators that something is wrong around here.
My phone is stock international sim-free G2, never rooted or otherwise modified and yet no one was able to offer a coherent solution of how to update to Lollipop, until your post.
So, thanks for this thread.
Thank you, that is exactly why i made the thread. Every one of those threads has everything explained, but you need to search theough 150 pages to understand how something is done. That's why i wanted to make a thread with all explanations made in a single post and to make it noob friendly since the worst thing that happens in other threads is answer like use a search you have it somewhere.
Hi,
Thanks for the thread. It really helps noobs like me, but I still have a couple of questions...
I was running Paranoid Android L rom with root, twrp and kk bootloader on My D802.
I didn't see this thread before I decided to downgrade back to 4.2.2 stock rom, and now I don't really know what steps to take.(I have kernel version 3..4.0 and build number JDQ39B)
I haven't seen an OTA available, so I was thinking of flashing new Lollipop rom kdz file. But I've been seeing stuff about using LG PC suite to upgrade via OTA so i wasn't sure.
So my main question is that do I do an OTA upgrade on my current 4.2.2 stock rom or do I download an official Lollipop rom? Can you give me a brief idea of the steps to take?
Thanks

Updating through pc suite or ota is the best way if it is available to you. Flashing kdz is the same thing but that is doing it manually while through pc auite nad ota is pretty much automatic. Anyways which ever way you decide to use be sure to fully charge your battery and factory reset acter the update. If you need anything else feel free to ask

No need to flash bootloader if you didnt flash it for paranoid android. And definitely no need to root since you can root after update.
Problems with flashing KDZ
I have downloaded Spain Lolipop KDZ file for LG G2 D802.
Have backed up everything usint TWRP> ( Presently on Optimus G3 rom v 1.4.1 with dorimanx kernel and TWRP )
I have copied the KDZ file to the flash tool. When i use CSE flash .. it takes me to the next page .. in which I click on Start which then opens up the LG Mobile support tool.
Then it shows detecting ur phone .. unpacking or extracting file .. after that shows software updating .. reaches 2 % and then shows error .. asks me to retry .
Do you know what I am doing wrong ? or the cause of this prob ?

Had the same problem when flashing kitkat kdz. Are you sure that you have pasted kdzfile inside flashtool. If that is not the problem try other kdz. That helped me
Where are you from and more specifically whhere your phone is from so i can maybe help you with finding right kdz. And btw i think you might have a problem when trying to restore that backup so if you still can backup your phone manually or on the cloud.

Hi again..
OTA update to Lollipop has failed on my D802, LG PC Suite only upgraded me from Android 4.2.2 to 4.4.2, so can anyone help me out here?
Am I missing something for OTA update? If not, then which lollipop kdz can I download for my phone so that I can flash? I live in UK and i use a 3 UK sim if that helps
but also, In the process of trying to boot into my previously installed TWRP recovery, I discovered that i have been restored to stock recovery. I have rooted the phone, but just wanted to clarify: I flash custom recovery, then bootloader/kernel then lollipop kdz?
Thanks again

I am not sure but i think that update for the uk didnt come out yet. so you can't update to lollipop yet via pc suite or ota. and you got it all wrong. first you flash lollipop kdz but you will have to try out few of them since official for uk didn't come out yet, after that you root, and then flash custom recovery.
and as previously you will be back to stock recovery after update. you have it all explained step by step in first post. i know it is a bit long but that is the best way, since i didn't want to write stuff like "you should know that" and so on. so just follow the first post and you will be happy, or wait for official uk update over the ota you will be happy too, and i guess it should come out in a month.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll download all the lollipop kdz's and see which one of them works for me till the UK one comes out then I'll just do a normal flash over it.
But seriously, one month for the UK ota :crying: Right now, I don't even know which is worse: Google that takes forever to release updates with so many bugs, or Apple who generally release better stable updates but make older devices laggy...
Thanks again for all the help.

its a good update, not that buggy, and be sure to fully charge your battery before the process. you should try europe open or something like that, but there is no german or uk release yet and some guys suspect it is slowed down because they found out bugs in other versions

And i suppose that erasing screen could have been factory reset on stock recovery

I believe mine is an international version. Where it came from, well, I'm from the Philippines and I got my phone from a local telecom, Globe.
The flash tool said that it was successfully upgraded, but judging from the phone's behavior I think there's something wrong. My phone never started successfully, and I got stuck in the LG logo.

No imei and stuck in lg logo bootloop without computer access...help!

Ok I really did it this time. Here is what i stupidly did. my phone was on the 35b update so I used the tot method to take it back to 10b. I rooted and then used the ota updates to upgrade to 12b, and I believe to more times (of course after telling supersu to stay active thru the updates) until I got to the update that would take me over into lollipop. I downloaded the update, but then needed to charge my phone i noticed, so I told it to postphone the update. After I had a somewhat decent charge I told my g3 to update and it immediately went to twrp recovery. Thinking this odd I tried to reboot and it started to bootloop inside twrp. I tried getting it to do a recovery of a save that i had previously had downloaded to my ext sd before I lost root taking the 35b update and it went all the way thru and said success. But as soon as it rebooted into what should have been the system, It instead started bootlooping at the lg logo and hasnt stopped since. I not have got it to go to recovery but it is stock and twrp is now gone but every option results in simply restarting the bootloop. I plugged into my computer to try both tot and kdz only to have them both fail because now my computer no longer recognizes my device. During the stage that I was in recovery trying to use different predownloaded roms is when I realized that my imei has also been erased, which is why I assume my computer cant recognize it anymore. I know I probably have a list of mistakes that could have been avoided but I tried to do this myself and I admit i simply need the vast knowledge of the xda. Please someone guide me in the right direction to fix my phone. I don't have alot of money to spend to replace it and just really need to fix this one please.

im fairly knowledgeable with the g3, but im not sure i can help you
the consequences of the minor mistake you made (you cant take an ota with twrp on) are unusually severe.
we have a zip to flash that would have fixed it, but it needs to be flashed in twrp, and i dont believe i have ever seen twrp get removed while making this error.
im thinking the only fix is flashing stock. i would try different usb ports, re-install the drivers, and even try another pc, to get it recognized so you can flash it.
if there is some other fix im forgetting maybe someone else will suggest it, but in a bootloop with no twrp to flush the update, i believe your in a bad spot if you cant figure out how to get it to flash.
sorry
that is how my luck goes, thanks for looking into my problem.

the consequences of the minor mistake you made (you cant take an ota with twrp on) are unusually severe.
we have a zip to flash that would have fixed it, but it needs to be flashed in twrp, and i dont believe i have ever seen twrp get removed while making this error.
im thinking the only fix is flashing stock. i would try different usb ports, re-install the drivers, and even try another pc, to get it recognized so you can flash it.
if there is some other fix im forgetting maybe someone else will suggest it, but in a bootloop with no twrp to flush the update, i believe your in a bad spot if you cant figure out how to get it to flash.
sorry

I don't know if trying LG Flash Tool 2014 with a 10B KDZ would work any better than the TOT method without an IMEI.

Verizon rooted/unlocked - deleted "My Verizon" system app now stuck on boot

Help!
I've had a verizon V30 I unlocked and rooted via the frankenstein method a few years ago.
I was running out of space recently and did some cursory research about 'my verizon' app and it was pretty large, so I made a titanium backup and then deleted it. Also did this for the basic 'messages' app built in.
Noticed the phone was a little laggy and having some hang issues after that so I rebooted. It's stuck on a Verizon splash screen with a few colorful dots.. seems stuck there.
I've tried clearing the cache and booting into safe mode all with the same result. I really do not want to do a factory reset.
What are my next steps for troubleshooting this or trying to restore that program? Any help is appreciated--I've tried to search a bit but not finding a good first step towards trying to resolve this.
Thanks!

Early on with the verizon V30 roms I found that uninstalling some of the bloatware caused boot loops. From then on I just froze them; doesnt help your space situatuon though...
If no other suggestions, you could try a dirty flash of the ROM you were running (assuming you flashed TWRP zip).
I believe you'll need MyVerizon anyway, as this is what enables VOLTE and VOWIFI on Verizon (for me, at least). So I would not recommend removing it anyway.
Granted, you're past that. I would think that dirty-flashing the ROM should restore it, potentially? That could be one way to get back to running. Another way might be to reload the APK somehow. You might need to use TWRP to do that, unless there's another way to do it from a TiBu backup? If I can help in some way (I'm on VS996) I'm happy to try.
Unless you actually deleted the apps from System, it's almost certain that a Factory Reset will solve it. But I can understand your reluctance.
I'm not sure a dirty flash will help, since the problem is your data partition. You already tried deleting cache (I presume in TWRP).
And I agree that if you could somehow reload the apk, that might do it. Does ADB install work in TWRP, despite no OS? If so, that's worth trying. First pull the apks you removed from System to your computer, then run adb install apk-filename.
But FIRST make a full TWRP data backup of what you have now!
If you have to Factory Reset, you can use TiBu to restore your user apps from that backup. I haven't tried that in years, but I assume TiBu still has this feature.
Fingers crossed for you :fingers-crossed:
And for others who see this: Careful, selective debloating IS possible, but it always starts with a full backup: TWRP if rooted, otherwise LG Backup, (which saves app data and most OS settings).
Thanks all for responses, appreciated so much. In a bit of a pinch as I needed my phone for a backpacking trip last weekend, I just moved forward as best I could on Friday. Generally I tweak my phone enough to unlock/root then let it be. I guess I got greedy/complacent try trying to de-verizonify it and clear some space as much as possible.
Two things
1) Immediate solution, and still seeking some advice:
I used LGUP to flash the Android 9 kdz as an upgrade I think to the phone. Because I had TWRP as my recovery that ran into an encryption error (I subsequently saw this caveat/warning further down in one of ChazzMatt's posts), and due to that was required to wipe/clear everything.
So now I have 'benefits' of Android 9 but no root. However my bootloader is still unlocked.. so I am still seeking advice how I can get Android 9 root. Please don't tell me I have to go back to 8 and do some stuff before going back to 9 with root. I didn't actually see in any guide how to root on 9. But it is possible I missed it/just need to apply same sequence as shown as on the guide for doing so on 8.
I'm on 30c version of PIE and keep getting bugged to install a system update which I keep putting off because I'm leery of that..but I can't freeze the process without root.
Also because I flashed the stock OS, that means I lost the custom recovery, I don't have TWRP anymore (this seems so, but looking for confirmation), right?
2) retrospect, and a question for future reference
After all this I realized like an idiot I had a TWRP backup made in 2018 after I first unlocked and rooted it. Just hanging out on my SD card, which I could have accessed via TWRP before I flashed the KDZ. If I would have restored that it would have re-installed the OS and retained my data. Is that considered a dirty flash though, like it might not have worked or had subsequent problems?
And secondly on the SD card, I found all the 'dank memes' and other downloads I was worried I'd lost, so most of the data loss tragedy :silly: was averted (main pics backup to cloud, learned that lesson after lg g4 hardware bootloop pain).

With unlocked bootloader on Pie, here's how you reinstall TWRP (IF you are on firmware with fastboot flash commands). Yes, I made a standalone post for this -- but if you read it it's basically just Section 6 of WTF Instructions. However, I had to make a standalone post because too many people kept thinking they had to downgrade back to Oreo, etc.
So, you can reinstall TWRP on Pie if you have unlocked bootloader. The problem is you need to fastboot flash commands to do that. VS996 firmware does not have that, which is why VS996 owners have to TEMPORARILY convert to US998 in the first place to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root. Yes, your bootloader is already unlocked, but on VS996 you don't have the necessary fastboot flash commands to reinstall TWRP.
Thus, you will need to go back to US998 firmware (flashing KDZ via Dev Patched LGUP) to get fastboot flash commands. You can do it the hard way (US998 Pie KDZ) or you can do it the easy way (US998 Oreo KDZ). With already unlocked bootloader, you don't need to go back early Oreo, you can go to last Oreo. I don't recommend flashing US998 Pie for this, as there's too many people who have trouble with US998 Pie (stuck on LG logo, etc). You just need to temporarily get fastboot flash commands, and get TWRP reinstalled.
That post I have linked in the first sentence is for unlocked Bootloader with fastboot flash commands, on any stock firmware (Pie, Oreo, even Nougat if you wanted that for some reason).
Once you reinstall TWRP, then you can go back to VS996 Pie firmware via TWRP flashable zip.
Thanks for your response, now and two years ago.. super appreciated
I only need to get to the point to put the phone in debug mode (with access to fastboot) to get TWRP installed after flashing the recent oreo kdz. After TWRP installed follow your instructions (thanks!) to flash TWRP pie..
I'll probably give it a go this weekend or tomorrow evening, but do you have a recommended link to US998 Oreo kdz? https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397933445 is fine?
Whereafter I'll follow your instructions for installing it (using LGUP patched) at: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/us998-lg-v30-us998-us99820a040330-kdz-t3786337
In the ROM section, go to ChazzMatt's US998 Pie KDZ thread. It also has instructions for rolling back to Oreo. Follow them to the t.
Make sure to use the Pie-compatible LGUP version in there when you roll back, and install it exactly as described in that thread.
His US998 Oreo thread will have a download link for Oreo 20h (the latest Oreo). Otherwise it's easy to find on lg-firmwares.com.
Good luck to you
Ok really that was pretty easy and not bad once I got everything lined up, did it in maybe 30 minutes or less. I'm in Pie with root now and TWRP recovery. Thank you for the help!
Two points:
1) after flashing TWRP, I got some issues when wiping, I was able to flash the VS996 ROM but kept seeing some red "twrp can't mount system" or something like this. It would be a hassle but do I need to go back and reformat/reflash? or do it dirty at least?
2) maybe related to the above, maybe (probably not) not.. and I realize magisk and other avenues might cover it these days but I'm trying to debloat the TWRP flashed VS996 ROM with Titanium Backup.. stuff like NFL and slacker radio, google music.. like I did on Oreo. But Titanium keeps giving me an error about 'can't find the apk' -- Ti says I have root. I have read a bit that Android 10 really packages the apps in there so it's not like you can just remove the ones you want. is this the case for 9 too?
suggestions for alternative tool if Titanium is kind of a dinosaur in that regard?
Thanks
Well done!
1) It's best to use Format Data in TWRP to avoid that mounting error. Unless you are certain you have no mounting problems, I would recommend doing that before spending more time setting up the OS.
2) Before trying to freeze apps with TiBu, see if they can be Disabled in the regular Apps menu. Most of the "optional" bloatware can. Of course make a TWRP backup before freezing anything with TWRP!
Water-, there is already a debloated Verizon 99630c rom out there somewhere, if you would like to try it. I'm on it now.
Sorry, I can't link it. It was made by micromod777. So do a search for him.
I also use tibu, but there is another app (?) out there called migrate that backs everything up. You might look for it and try it. (I did use it a month or so ago myself just to try it - - worked for me).

You're welcome!
See points "f" and "g" of the screenshot. When you were installing TWRP I think you missed the "format data" part... And/or possibly the "reboot recovery" step immediately after.
If you were reading in an app (XDA or Tapatalk) instead of web browser, it's possible that section was truncated and you didn't see it.

hmmm
it's possible.. ..i definitely gave formatting a shot (hence the red errors.) and believe I rebooted to recovery.
Where I'm at now, OS booting/operating flawless (bloat aside) and root verified, can boot back into TWRP no problem...
recommended course of action?

Sorry, I'm in another hemisphere for several weeks on leave of absence for family matters. Didn't see this until now. Hope you got it worked out.

Not a problem at all! Maybe you mistook this post for another, as you'd fairly promptly replied to me through here over the last two weeks! much to my appreciation.
Basically I'm saying when I was doing some of the wipe functions in TWRP before flashing the new OS, and while flashing it, I saw some red mount system error messages.
However my phone is fully functional, I can reboot into TWRP recovery, I'm not noticing any functional issues with it right now.
Can I ignore because functional phone and recovery access = functioning fully! or is there some check I should do or whatnot. I mean I could clear data and start over again but It's been a week+ of customizing and getting it how I like it, kind of a hassle if it's not needed/necessary.
Thanks

Do you have encryption on? TWRP will show a mount error upon start, and prior to the passcode being entered.
