I have never managed to make a TWRP backup that is actually bootable... No matter what combination of partitions I pick, when I restore the backup it never boots. Am I just dumb or is that a Poco specific issue?

Thank you for bringing this up..... Never managed to restore successfully... On my other devices this is never a issue... Searched in forums but couldn't find any help.

So I should NOT restore System and Vendor partitions? Do I need to flash the ROM first and then restore on top of that? Should the restore look like this? https://i.imgur.com/QW8NmzG.png

I do not know what to select to make a backup, in my other phones I selected everything and made a correct backup, but if I select now a whole ROM of 5GB weighs 12GB
Can someone tell me that I should select to make a backup of the installed ROM with my APPS, regards

My screenshot above worked and restored just fine. Just make sure you disable any lockscreen before backing up!

I have seen members saying that nandroid backup is like the first thing to do before flashing/rooting etc.
I want to ask, how important is nandroid backup for our device? I read somewhere that its nearly impossible to brick your rezound as long as its S-ON, so is nandroid backup still important?
Thing is, my memory card slot is not working and there isn't a way to backup nandroid. Was thinking of flashing some ROMs.
Nandroid are like restore points, if you mess something up you can always go back. It's a must for frequent rom flashing unless you like losing all your data every time you mess something up and end up running an RUU to get it back to working order. Idk if it's possible to maybe have the nandroid save on your internal storage.
Also look on the play store, I remember seeing someone make an app that will do a nandroid backup to cloud.. While the device is booted.

I don't know about TWRP and AmonRa, but I do know that TWRP and CWM didn't like each other the last time I tried, which was a couple months ago for a friend. I had to do a different backup using TWRP because it would not read the previous backup properly, which was made with CWM.
EDIT: I did find that Amon Ra can restore CWM backups.

I really have no idea... I haven't used anything but TWRP for several months.
i have unlocked bootloader, installed custom recovery by NEXUS prime, rooted my phone
Now i want to know if install the the custom mods of apps ,toggle panels etc >>
q1- how to uninstall these customs mods??
q2- when i do factory reset what will happen do these custom mods changed permanently in my stock ROM???
q3- before installing anything i have been suggested to make recovery of that, now how can i make recovery of toggle panel or icons??
1.: Generally, there is no uninstall method. Workaround: Make a nandroid backup prior to installing and restore that backup for uninstalling.
2.: A Factory reset just wipes your data, cache, dalvik cache partitions. The mods you mean are installed in system partition.
3.: Do a nandroid backup after you installed the mods as well, so you can restore it anytime you want to have it back.

A nandroid backup is one of the most important things with custom roms.
In CWM and TWRP there is a backup option that will make a backup of your whole phone. So if you restore it later it will be the exact same as when you made the backup.

you need twrp recovery(or anyother recovery) for that. Go to backup option, select EFS and swipe to backup.

You can use TWRP like mentioned before. Or if you first root your device you can use an app like Partitions Backup & Restore in the playstore . And select all things that start with modem. I can also recommend to make a full system backup before flashing any other rom including the persistent partition. Last but not least please put those backups on a computer or on a cloud device. Because the microsd or the internal storage can always be deleted by a fault.
Hi! I have a Leeco Le Max 2 X829, and as there aren´t any official stock ROM I wanna save a 100% stock Backup of my X829 with 16S USA ROM. I mean ROM + Recovery, just as it is unpacked(without downloaded Apps and my data).
Could I make it booting in temporaly TWRP with fastboot and doing NAND backup choosing:
- Boot
- Recovery
- System
- Data...

If you just want a factory setup without your apps and data I would say just backup the system image in twrp, backing up data definitely uncheck .

eUI is not that bad and until we all get the update to android 7 ... it s probably the best and most stable rom running.
Why change it, when the other opportunities are leading to an less smooth running phone ?
To me all the cooked roms have disadvantages.
I need to have a fully working phone/ camera /fingerprint sensor...
without option to go back to the US rom I wouldn't change a thing!

Don't listen to them. Back up everything. Who cares about a few space? Besides data is probably empty or with a few stock tools. Just backup all for your complete image. EFS contains IMEI and other stuff. It is important to have it. You can Back up everything, and then move it to a computer or somewhere else
It will have stock recovery backed up to TWRP and it's better if you backup as image, that way it saves the partition structures too.
Only first backup as image,to have perfect copy, the next backups you do is better do them as normal backups compressed (not image).

Yes those are md5 or Sha sums, drag the whole TWRP folder to computer and you are good to go, don't change any name of any folder inside TWRP folder or TWRP will never detect that backup.
I don't know why but once I copied all except 73shf38 folder, and it turned out that folder with those numbers matter, and I couldn't restore without the exact name

The default TWRP settings under "Backup" will give you a nandroid that should allow you to restore when changing roms or a failed "something" install. Generally "Boot," "System," and "Data" are what you should backup. A more comprehensive device backup might include other partitions.

And why system image partition is checked for backup by default? Do we need it at all? - at least for me backup even can't be finished with that system image checked. So, I unchecked it to succeed with the backup.

if that system image backup reason applies to the custom-to-custom restore for moto z? -
I know that for other devices twrp (or custom versions of it) disables dm-verity check by default.
so, the question also is if that applies to moto z too?
