hi
i have a friend A in a foreign country who lives in a area without internet coverage. calling him using normal telephone service would be way too expensive.
there is another friend B in mentioned country that does have internet. He is using an android phone. my idea is that B calls A using normal telephone service and forwards the call using whatsapp, hangouts or similar service over the internet. is that somehow possibel? are there apps for it?

So even if we go onto a custom rom we cant do it?
Nope. You'd need to use grooveip (uses your google voice account) or similar apps.
Can't use SIP Provider

So I just got my phone a week ago and played with stock before going straight to CM10. I went back to stock because of some issues I was having.
In stock, I set up Google Voice on the phone as well as the Internet Call Settings in the dialer with SipGate as my provider. I have SipGate set to receive calls only and Google Voice for all outgoing calls.
My expectation was that I could go to the dialer and dial any # through Google Voice using my wifi at home or whereever, just not using any cellular services.
If I go to the Google Voice site and call from there, it does ring my phone (to bridge that connection) since I have SipGate set up to receive the forwarded call. I just can't call out from the phone.
From what I'm gathering for your reply is that even though I have Google Voice set to make calls through the phone, you're saying it won't work?? What is it about Groove IP that allows you to make calls with the dialer that Google Voice cannnot even though it's settings has that option?
It boggles the mind...
Oh and I went back to CM10 just to see if it was an issue with stock. Stock would start to dial, but exit immediately. I think I saw a little notice about service being out of range or something (again, no SIM). I actually did get a free TMo SIM that I used on my old Nokia XpressMusic 5800, but left it unactivated. A SIM was required to use some features.
In CM10, it doesn't even start to dial, but just says "Mobile network not available" even though I set Google Voice to make the outgoing call.
I will be in the Western Caribbean all next week & my son told me to use viber to talk with him in upstate NY for free.
Do I need a Wi-Fi connection to do this?? I know it will work on 3g also, but wouldn't that incur massive out of the country roaming charges?
My son used it to talk to a buddy in the Army in Germany for a month with no charges, but I'm not sure if he was using Wi-Fi or not??

Hi,
This is a member of Viber Team!
Viber to Viber calls or messages are absolutely free when selecting the Viber badge in your Viber contact list or the button which says 'Free Call' or 'Free Message' within the contact info of your Viber contact list. Viber does not charge your carrier nor Viber users. Calls or messages placed from Viber to "non Viber users" will go through your local cell phone provider like a regular cell call. Once you and your friends download Viber you can talk freely, locally and internationally, and these calls will not show up on your phone bill.
All you need is an Internet connection: 3G or WiFi wherever available (3G may incur operator data charges or internet access fees. Check with your 3G provider to see your 3G plan). The bandwidth rate during a Viber call is approximately 240 KB per minute / 14 MB per hour.
If the party you are calling doesn't have an active internet connection or has their Viber application turned off when you call, the call will time out, and once the person reconnects to the internet, or once the person opens the Viber application, they will receive your missed call notification or the text message you've sent. Viber will not automatically divert to your regular GSM (cell phone provider) service.
If you have any question about Viber - please feel free to ask.
Thank you,
Viber Team
Hello!
What are the best calling and texting apps for Android? I want to be able to text and call my friends and family for free using their normal numbers, so WhatsApp is out of the picture since you have to have an account in order to communicate on there. I'm currently using an app called Talkatone, but frequently the calls are very low quality and the person on the other end cannot hear me. Thanks to all with any suggestions! Cheap cell phone service that anyone knows of would be welcome too
Hi I would like to leave my mobile phone at home while I travel so I don't get charged roaming data. Then access the phone via another mobile with a cheap local sim of that country or wifi. Is there such a way that I can remotely dial on the phone (something like VNC to remotely operate the phone) and receive calls remotely on my home mobile and effectively forwarding the calls across cheaply. As far as the caller is concerned I'm still at home!
IS there anything that might do this an app or something>?
Or am I dreaming about something that is impossible?
anyone?
I ask because I recently got an 8.4" M5, and want to continue making cell calls with it it on T-Mobile when they finish replacing the 2G and 3G on their towers in my area.
I don't have a direct solution for you-- I really don't know. I have a WiFi-only model.
If you have no other solution, you might use some VOIP service to link with your mobile provider. Many of them can be linked one way or another with one or more existing phone numbers.
If you're in the US, the natural answer would be Google Voice. It will ring on your tablet as long as you have an internet connection-- even on WiFi. You can call out using Google Voice to US phone numbers for free. But for incoming calls you would have to supply your contacts with your Google Voice phone number. You can give Google Voice a list of your mobile and landline numbers to link into the service. So it will ring all those phone numbers when callers dial your Google Voice phone number. I often take and answer calls on my tablet this way.
